Well, you've read the notes, the notes were written after the ubiquitous crash, and now it is time for you to post until the crashed cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: SOIREE!
-
Notes Haver’d. Havoc’d.
-
SOIREE for your loss.

Hard to convey to the youth of today just how much hype there was for that Batman movie. It was a letdown to me. Obnoxious and no fun. Haven’t liked any Batman film except the 1966 theatrical version of the TV show.
-
Prince’s “Batdance” went to #1 on the charts and it’s as empty and dates as poorly as the movie.
-
Topic of the Day: I don't think I've seen any Batman feature films...just scenes from the Adam West/Burt Ward TV show.
-
Good morning, friends.
-
Good morning, all!
-
I stayed up later than usual, so I decided I would sleep in, and set the alarm for 6:30.
-
This is a big ballet day; I need to finish Part 2 of the Coda in Swing Time and get on to Part 3. I also need to call Quest Diagnostics for an appointment next week and try another call to the HRA people again about my Medicaid. I fear a trip to their offices may be necessary.
-
I never cared much for Batman as a comic book or a movie. I liked the silliness of the TV series, but I've had no urge to ever watch it again.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Last night we watched the first episodes of More Tales of the City. It's better than I remembered, but the first series leaves it in the dust.
-

Not even the episode with Liberace as Chantal AND his evil twin Skippy? Or the one with Ethel Merman?
-
I liked Tim Burton’s two Batman movies when they came, but I have had no desire to see them again. I enjoyed the recent The Batman.
I did not like Joel Schmacher’s Batman movies at all.

I was never a big Batman aficionado, even going back to the comics, although I do remember reading them occasionally. The Superman family of comics and heroes was my cup of tea. I didn’t even watch the TV series originally because as I recall, I was just into too many other things that year in high school and then I was off to college where I saw hardly any TV at all.
The first Tim Burton film was released just as I was moving from LA to Danbury, and a bunch of us had a great time seeing it on its opening night. But I didn’t follow that up with the other films, although I eventually saw them on home video. Years later I saw Batman Begins, which half interested and half bored me…and that’s pretty much where I’ve left it. I might enjoy seeing some of the TV series, though.

I liked some of it. Michael Keaton was excellent. Despised Jack Nicholson and saw no reason for the Prince songs except that he was hot and they wanted Prince songs in the film.
It made a wad of money; Nicholson took massive profits, as well...IIRC, he earned about $75 million off the film's initial run. Have no idea how that has been impacted by television showings and home video sales.
-
Today is Oppenheimer day for me. I’ll go to the 3pm IMAX showing.
-
TOD:
My favorite Batmans are the ones with Christian Bale, especially the first one.
I recently watched "The Batman" with Robert Pattinson. Although very grim, it had a great deal of darkness, tension and excellent acting.
I did enjoy the Batman with George Clooney and Chris O'Donnell as Robin. Sue me.
I hate, loathe and despise the film with DeVito and Schwarzenegger.
In "Batman Forever, I liked Val Kilmer as Bruce Wayne, and I thought Jim Carrey was an interesting Riddler. Tommy Lee Jones, however, hammed up Two-Face so badly, I got a headache watching him.
-
Interested to hear your impressions, DR ChasSmith.

Just how far is spitting distance, exactly?

~~~MAJOR MODERN MAJOR MIRACLE VIBES~~~ for the likes of BK!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just how far is spitting distance, exactly?
Just as far as it is from my house to yours!!!
-
But who is spitting?
-
;D
-
TWO!!
-
I’m not going to bother seeing Barbie at the theeder. It’s not important enough to me to spend the time and energy going out to it. I’ll be happy to watch it at home sometime in the future. Or maybe we’ll get off our ASSES and use that as an excuse to go to a drive-in before the season ends, since we haven’t had that adventure in several years.
-
But who is spitting?
BK is, in today's Notes. Or will be. Soon.
-
It feels early for me to be up, although I did get about 7 hours of sleep.
Time for coffee and something to munch upon...probably a muffin a la blueberries, but we shall see.
-
I remember going to a drive-in in Los Angeles to see Snow White. And hiding behind the car seat every time the wicked queen/witch appeared.
**SPOILER ALERT**
-
Actually, as I sit here thinking about it, I do remember the first Tim Burton movie rather fondly. But I don’t even remember there being Prince songs! Yikes. I’ll keep it in mind for a future viewing for old times sake.
-
Bat Bite!
-
I like the Batman serials - and the 1966 movie.
I saw Tim Burton's BATMAN movie when it came out but didn't care for it.
I recently watched one with Ben Affleck that I sort of liked. I guess Batman & Robin & Gotham City are just not my thing.
-
I get a lot of emails selling book cycles called "cozy mysteries."
Is this a new genre? What does it mean, exactly?
-
Cozy mysteries, also referred to as "cozies", are a subgenre of crime fiction in which sex and violence occur off stage, the detective is an amateur sleuth, and the crime and detection take place in a small, socially intimate community. Cozies thus stand in contrast to hardboiled fiction, in which more violence and explicit sexuality are central to the plot. The term "cozy" was first coined in the late 20th century when various writers produced work in an attempt to re-create the Golden Age of Detective Fiction.
-
So sayeth wiki. I’ve never heard the term until now.
-
So sayeth wiki. I’ve never heard the term until now.
It's a very well known genre at the library. ;D
-
I guess it’s like Murder She Wrote instead of The Big Sleep.
-
I was originally introduced to the term “cozy catastrophes” in reference to such books as John Wyndham’s Triffids, Midwich Cuckoos, and such.
-
Thanks, DR Rodzinski. I guess I could have done my own research, But I appreciate you!
-
And, DR George, is every such book adorned with a Thomas Kinkade on the cover?
-
Last night we watched the first episodes of More Tales of the City. It's better than I remembered, but the first series leaves it in the dust.
DR Elmore - I totally agree. While it's nice to have the next two books in movie form, that first movie was excellent. It's too bad they stopped after "Further Tales of the City". I have a feeling it was not the right time to make more. We did get the Netflix "reboot" or whatever, which tied up some loose ends but was pretty blah after the excitement of the first 7 books.
-
Oh, Good morning. Nothing much happening today until I make it happen. So, better go make it happen....
-
And, DR George, is every such book adorned with a Thomas Kinkade on the cover?
Pretty much.
-
From Rodzinski:
One family I know visiting Maui was evacuated from their hotel last night and have been sitting at the airport all day.
From what I have read they were lucky the airport had room for them.
-
I hope the friends of DR Rodzinski have been able to fly home.
-
DR George it is a good thing your sister's plans are on a different island. I would expect, if that island doesn't have fires, all should be good.
-
Rodzinski, is the flooding in Alaska where you plan to be? Good vibes it will be ok by the time you leave.
-
The bat was on one of their outdoor sun umbrellas and as he reached in to shut the umbrella, he inadvertently grabbed the bat.
No wonder it bit him.
-
AC VIBES FOR BRUCE!
-
I loved Michael Keaton as Batman.
-
George, your sister was planning on going to Maui. 36 people there are now dead.
Oh, no. :(
This morning I read she was going to a different island, not that you couldn't remember which one.
-
George, did you find out which island your sister has plans to visit?
For those who don't know it, the FDA has updated the requirements for blood donations to allow more donors.
-
I get a lot of emails selling book cycles called "cozy mysteries."
Is this a new genre? What does it mean, exactly?
The violence isn’t Swedish noir extreme. It’s not gruesome or belabored. It’s cozy. For murder.
-
I was introduced to the term cozies by my friend Bonnie, because they are something she would never read.
-
Hello DR Laura good to see you
-
For those who don't know it, the FDA has updated the requirements for blood donations to allow more donors.
Thank you, DR Laura. And about time, too.
-
Well - it seems that the FDA has outlawed or banned or otherwise declared incandescent light bulbs verboten.....and now we will have to use led bulbs in our lamps. I guess I should watch the news more often.
I didn't know. I wonder if I am now eligible. I'll have to check.
Laura, thank you for sharing the news.
LOL. I think it is a great name.
-
DR George, Bernie is very cute. I'll have to show this to Keith.
-
Rodzinski, is the flooding in Alaska where you plan to be? Good vibes it will be ok by the time you leave.
Yes, but it’s via a cruise, so I imagine we can stay on the ship if a town is flooded.
-
We sang that when I was in seventh or eighth grade choir!
Yes, but it’s via a cruise, so I imagine we can stay on the ship if a town is flooded.
I do hope you can get off the ship, see the town/towns and do whatever excursions you have planned. Seeing the glacier in Juneau might not be possible.
-
I finished the second part of The Coda in Swing Time, and on to Part 3!
-
I'm up, I'm up - ten hours of glorious sleep. I was ready to sleep at two, but I got some ideas and so I wrote a rough version of what's coming up, then went to bed at three.
-
Presuming the rough version has stuff I like, then I'll have already done three or four pages.
-
It's a VERY tricky sequence - a real tightrope.
-
Page three my ASS.
-
DR Iris I looked at photos of Lahaina Harbor and can see why the fire swept through it. It doesn't seem that large and that wind was moving fast.
-
I guess it also explains why people ran into the water to avoid the fire.
-
I decided to futz and finesse the new pages first and that's done now - a lot of it was pretty good, some not so much, but I think I got the tricky part just right. So, I've written seven new pages, and I have two more still sketched out from last night. Now I'll order food and then futz and finesse yesterday's fourteen pages.
-
Lots of creativity going on today amongst the HHW members.
-
The books in my "to read" pile when I'm looking for a new book to read:
-
It's a metaphor.
-
What's a meta for?
-
I could try semaphore, I guess.
-
But people might mistake it for the hand jive.
-
Well, page FOUR, at any rate.
-
For those who don't know it, the FDA has updated the requirements for blood donations to allow more donors.
I didn't know. I wonder if I am now eligible. I'll have to check.
I donated yesterday. My last two donations were in honor of TCB and Danise. A previous one was for Vixdad, who I believed received blood some time ago when he was ill.
So ya'll better be careful. I don't want yesterday's to be in honor of anyone here.
-
I think the new regulations make a lot of sense.
-
Where in tarnation IS everyone, for heaven's sake.
-
Had a Marco's pizza.
-
Eleven pages so far and must take a break because I'm so damn full I could burst.
-
Will try to write another four pages in a bit and that'll do it for today.
-
I'm here but don't have anything to say.
-
We had pretty good corn on the cob tonight.
-
I keep seeing an add for a t-shirt that says "Sorry I'm late. I saw a dog".
-
If it said "Sorry I'm late. I saw a Bernese Mountain Dog" I would not be able to resist it.
-
Back from a 15 mile bike ride. Shower, dinner than heading over to hang with mom for a while tonight. Catch up, etc.
-
I like reading about your long bike rides. Have a good evening.
-
Reading about the historic buildings in Lahaina that were loss, I didn't initially think of the historical artifacts that were inside these buildings. >:(
-
As expected the number of deaths continues to rise. It is already at a shocking 53 people :'(
-
I can vent this here, no where else.
There's a professional theatre company in my area that just let it out there that they need 3 million dollars or they will have to close their doors. This company takes great pride in programming a season were they feature a few World Premiers if possible, but most of the time their shows they choose are plays or musicals that are not that well known. I see their post and I just want to say - do a few seasons of shows that people recognize and then start to work in other things. People just want to see what they want to see.
There, I've said it.
-
GET ME OFF THIS DAMN PAGE.
-
That was for those who are hard of hearing.
Thank you Laura! Yes Vixdad had 10 pints plus an infusion of plasma during that scary week in the ICU last year. I appreciate your donation in his honor
I haven’t been allowed to give anymore because of my medication
-
We’ve been on the phone for the past couple of hours with the Vixter
She’s feeling quite well
-
I’ve started watching Only Murders in the Building on HULU
-
I’ve only seen the first 3 episodes but they are quite fun
-
I enjoyed the Batman TV series when it aired
-
Of course I was 8 then
-
I enjoyed the Michael Keaton Batman
-
I remember seeing the one with Danny DiVito as the penguin and it being ok
-
I don5 think I’ve seen any of the others
Two more pages and I'm done for today. Thinking about writing them now rather than later. I don't think there's anything I feel like watching right now.
-
Congrats to DR ELMORE on the ballet work....
-
Congrats to MR BK on his continued work on the novella.....uh.....oh....my ass......
-
I really like Samantha Morton. But I started watching her in Morvern Callar. I turned it off after not even 10 minutes.
-
Enough of that.
-
Acts One & Two are blocked. It went very well tonight.....one word from the know it all actress that I said something wrong.....so I just said.....no - that's how I want it to be done....
And of course it worked out perfectly....as I knew it would when I wrote down the blocking.
You're welcome.
-
I’m not having much luck with these films from the library.
-
And thank you, JRand.
DD Leo got into the garbage under the sink when I went to visit mom. How did he do that? Well, DP (Dear Papa) forgot to put the locks on the cabinets before he left. I just happened to check the cam (which I just purchased) to see what the boys were up to when I was at Moms - and I saw the mess. I left immediately. (Mom lives 10 minutes away) Well, I walked in and saw that I was at fault, so I quietly cleaned up the mess, didn't say a word to DD Leo - who was hiding by the front door - the mess was minimal as messes go, lots of paper, but there was a coffee filter with coffee in it, so thank goodness for the dustbuster. All good - locks are on the cabinets, DP is going out for some frozen yogurt and I'll come back as if nothing has happened.
The adult takes responsibility if they do not leave the house in a condition where the dogs can get into anything - that’s why the adult went through the trouble to get locks for the cabinet. I’m putting a post-it on the door to remind myself now
-
Glad that the mess wasn't worse, DR Matthew, and that DD Leo didn't get into anything that would have been harmful to him.
DR Iris (and anyone else interested in my opinion on "The White Lotus"):
I finished Season 2 this evening. It is so vastly different from Season 1, both in location, tone and charm (i.e. it has none).
I think the actors are all pretty much first-rate with the exception, sorry to say, of Jennifer Coolidge. Yes, I know she won an Emmy for playing Tanya McQuoid in the first season, but her character went a long way in the first season and I needed a rest from her. Here, she was nearly unbearable, despite the interesting developments in the last couple of episodes.
My favorite characters were the Di Grassos -- F. Murray Abraham, Michael Imperioli and Adam DiMarco. Loved the family dynamic and the fact that they were all sex-addicted souls trying to cope in a world where that male attribute is despised.
I liked the younger couples, as well, and I really liked Portia, the assistant to Tanya who was so badly treated by Tanya (Coolidge) that it made me despise that character even more.
Where was the humor? I couldn't find any. Where was the wit? Non-existent.
I understand Season 3 will be set in Thailand. One was in Hawaii and two was in Sicily. At least they are mixing it up and showing us nice landscapes. And Coolidge will NOT return for future seasons!!
I loved the nighttime shots of Mt. Etna erupting.
-
Otherwise, my day wasn't particularly special in any regard other than what I have reported.
From Rodzinski:
One family I know visiting Maui was evacuated from their hotel last night and have been sitting at the airport all day.
From what I have read they were lucky the airport had room for them.
Ultimately the airport didn’t. They’ve been staying in their rental minivan the last two nights. They believe they’ll be flying out tomorrow. Locals have been helpful.
-
And we're done.
-
The opening night of TAO's The Mystery Plays went off without much of a hitch. ::)
-
I’ve only seen the first 3 episodes but they are quite fun
Are they cozy though?
-
The only real hitch was that the program that I use for the sound and slides uses two screens: the computer monitor that I watch and the projector that projects the images for the audience...the way it's always been.
-
What?
-
This is disheartening.
-
I shall now go eat some worms.
-
Tonight, the mouse was showing on the projection screen and I couldn't figure out how to get it off and back onto the computer monitor! :o
-
So, I just moved it as far to the left as I could, and didn't touch the mouse until after the show.
-
Well, after the show, we figured out that the screens got switched on the computer and the way to move the mouse off the projection was on the other side of the screen. ::)
-
Gentlemen and kind people, we have our work cut out for us if this isn’t going to be a dog of a posting night.
-
Numerically speaking.
-
We switched it back to the side that I'm used to, and all is now right with the world. ;)
-
Let’s go team.
-
Excellent fix, DR George.
-
Gentlemen and kind people, we have our work cut out for us if this isn’t going to be a dog of a posting night.
Well, i'm now sitting in my car and about to go home, so I'll be back in a little while.
-
And here we seven.
-
Oh, no! It's Page SEVEN!! :o
-
Safe travels, G!
-
As DR Matthew pointed out, some of these theatre companies are their own worst enemy. Covid blame is one thing, but there are some bad programming choices out there.
-
My sister works for one of the top Chicago theatres. Rhymes with “Greppenwolf.” They’ve managed finances well. But this year has been a drag. I’m like, why did you go all-in on Austin Pendleton? He’s a lovely guy. But they had him directing, acting, choosing shows (the Pinter one he dropped out of). He’s not a household name that’s going to bring in big crowds.
-
Their holiday season play was about a woman dying of cancer. Or maybe it was the one about Russian politics. In a year nobody wants anything to do with Russia. Just downers across the board.
-
You gotta mix some crowd pleasers in!
-
Last night watched a nice looking (for YouTube) print of A Cold Wind in August starring Scott Marlowe and the gorgeous and talented Lola Albright.
-
Great little 1961 indie movie, really. Deals with some heady sexual themes. It can’t fully cover the inner monologue of Lola’s character like the excellent novel on which it is based, but it says a lot without saying a lot.
-
Marlowe gives a quirky performance as a kid coming of age. World-weary Albright steams up the screen.
-
Scott Marlowe’s career didn’t amount to a lot. Lot of tv roles… But I did see his name on a list of guys considered for I think the Pacino role in The Godfather. What could’ve been.
-
They need to do BK and Doug Haverty's A Carol Christmas.
-
George have you lived your whole life in Washington?
-
Thing I like about WA #1:
Their DMV is really no-hassle.
-
For your plates you take your info into a grocery store and they give you new plates right there. After a year they just send you new stickers in the mail. No car inspections!
-
The drivers license place was pretty smooth too.
-
Tried to harvest some figs from the fig tree this evening. I watched videos on YouTube and there’s nothing definitive. I watched a whole video where this guy picked a few of what he said were different ripeness, and they all looked the same when he cut that open. Then he said, yeah, it’s hard to give definitive guidance.
-
Gratuitous Post #200!!
-
Who gives a fig, right?
-
Have some decent plums I picked though. Gave some to the neighbors.
-
George have you lived your whole life in Washington?
No. We moved here in 1976 when I was 10 and the year before my dad retired from the army.
-
We were living in Ft. Carson, Colorado, moved here, and my dad went back finished his service back in Colorado, rather than be transfered to (then) Ft. Lewis.
-
I've been here ever since...and now that my condo is paid off, I have no intentions of ever moving again. :D
-
Nice. Was the move when you were 10 difficult?
-
End of 7 is nigh.
-
What once seemed impossible
-
Is now possible.
-
I do not care for page seven.
-
Whew!
-
On the 8th Page, we created posts.
-
Is George still in his car?
-
Or is George home?
-
I ended up doing a couple of extra pages, just because I was in the zone.
-
He is posting only while stopped at stoplights.
-
Nice. Was the move when you were 10 difficult?
Not for me or my sister...that I can remember.
-
He is posting only while stopped at stoplights.
Sorry. Potty break. ::)
;)
-
Anyway, moving here to Washington was the only time that we moved during a school year.
-
We both adjusted fairly well, I guess.
-
Is George still in his car?
No.
-
Or is George home?
Yes. :)
