Well, you've read the notes, the notes used the word rutabaga, and now it is time for you to post until the rutabaga cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: DYNAMO!
-
Dinah Shore.
-
Dinah Washington.
-
Good morning, friends.

DR Jane - the documentary on Ethel Kennedy was quite complimentary, as the talking heads were Ethel herself and all the surviving children.

Here is a shot of the interior of the Beinecke Rare Book Library on the campus of Yale University. On a sunny day, the light filters through the marble walls.
-
The rare books themselves are housed in a multi-story glass cube enclosed in the center of the interior of the building:
-
They are protected for light, humidity, etc.

And, if a fire is detected, a warning blares, giving folks a fixed amount of time to exit before all of the oxygen is immediately sucked out of the stack.

Thus stopping the fire in its tracks. And any remaining human occupants.

Cheery thought.
-
DR vixmom, the birthday dinner celebration sounds truly marvelous.

DR Jane, ~CONDOLENCES~ on the death of your popping apparatus.
-
Good morning, all!
-
I;m hoping to finish No. 3.7 today so I can make a trip tomorrow to an HRA office to discuss Medicaid.
-
Not all construction work is equally enjoyable.
-
Enlarging a drilled hole, for example, is boring.
-
But joining bits of metal together is riveting.
-
A stained glass desk! Pretty, but probably not very practical.
-
I like saying "rutabaga."
-
Just as I like saying "plumbago."
-
And "kumquat."
-
But I can't spell "Schenectady."
-
Really. I can't.
-
Don't ask me.
-
And I am telling you
-
I'm not going.

TWO!!
-
Good morning, all.
-
Perky plumbagos to you, Singdaw.
-
I would certainly hope so! :)
-
I am so enjoying BK's recording of "Evening Star." What a beautiful bridge!
-
"New Guy in Town" is available for streaming. BK, have you ever considered making "Haines His Way" available for streaming also?

(ps - I know that the "Evening Star" track is from Lost in Boston IV).

The recital is OVER, and I couldn’t be more tired if I was a Quaker in the well water.

TOD
I’ll watch YouTube for just about anything that’s of particular interest at a given moment. Like others, I find it invaluable for the plays, musicals, rare films, otherwise unavailable old TV shows, etc, but it is so much more. Series of tutorials on something you’re learning, how-to’s on fixing something, regular podcast-type things by someone you admire and can learn from, dash cam crash videos (shout-out to vixmom and vixdad), you name it. But I am always mindful of the fact that no matter what we use it for, or whatever our own particular interests are, there’s whole world in there to be discovered.

I am really sorry I wasn't invited to this Sweeney Todd-themed wedding.

I watched Red, White & Royal Blue.
It wasn't awful.....it was entertaining....and there were some funny lines.....
"Oh yes.....that's covered in what....oh yes....Article Zero of the Constitution......"
The writing and the CGI kind of let us down.....and a few performances were - well - but it was fun. If you're interested in the subject it's not the WORST way to spend a couple of hours. Just not memorable.

'Jesus was most critical of those who used religion as an excuse to marginalize others. We are merely seeking to follow Jesus in the best way we can.'

Good Morning! I guess I'll be going into work this morning. <yawn>. I am really not looking forward to going back to school this year. I've really enjoyed my days at home with my boys. Speaking of which, DD JP is doing well. Maybe a day or so left with the donut and the pen and he'll be a free little boy again.
TOD: Lately, I've been watching broadcasts of past Tony Awards. They don't make them like they used to. Such creativity went into those early broadcasts. I can say that about a lot of things, though...

Last night we watched Further Tales of the City. It wasn't bad, but it could have been better. It's very faithful to the book, but it seemed sloppy and a bit tired.Since the next book in Maupin's series dealt with Jon Fielding's death, among others, from AIDS, I think they were right to go no further into the 1980s.

I concur with the previous assessments of Red, White & Royal Blue (Oxford comma conspicuously absent).
It was fun, but nothing to write home about. There is eye candy, however.

Has anyone else read the book? It was totally charming.
I was talking to Ann about this last Friday. When I worked with the Gay Men's Chorus, I subscribed to The Advocate and several non-porn gay magazines to keep up to date on books, movies, and news that might be good for a choral piece. I also kept au courant with New York magazine. Entertainment Weekly, TV Guide, and otherthings to know what was going on with non-gay matters - there was a lot of overlap. These days I am completely out of it, and I miss the life that late I led.

About a year ago a new Chevron station opened at our freeway exit.

Fred Meyer near us is showing $4.90, if the online price is correct.

That is the price before our Fred Meyer discount.

Vixmom, your grandchild is going to be born in Florida. Are you okay with that?
-
I'm up, I'm up - three and a half hours of not enough sleep. I was up most of the night, only falling asleep at around seven.
-
Got up at ten-thirty, futzed and finessed as much as I could before having to shave and shower and go to a lunch meeting.
-
The meeting went very well and will result in several projects over the next couple of years, fun projects.
-
Had mac-and-cheese that was great.
-
That's great news, BK!
-
Came home, finished futzing and finessing, sent Muse Margaret about 102 new pages, and then wrote five new pages. Coming up to a major sequence that will take the rest of the current chapter.
-
About to cross 80,000 words. Novella my ASS.
-
What's interesting is this manuscript is already 100 pages longer than Preview Harvey but has, at this point, 30,000 less words. That's because Preview Harvey never shuts up. This book has a lot of dialogue sections and those don't have nearly the number of words.

Since it is normally the plastic hood that breaks first on these, vs the heating base, we ordered the same model.

We will keep the top and extra parts just in case.

And that DR GEORGE's Medea may have been pixilated.
So, after finding out that the channels were pixelated, I looked and NOTHING was showing in my recorded programs section on my DVR! :o
-
It was if everything was deleted! :'(
-
But I didn't panic...well, I didn't let myself panic yet, anyway.
-
I figured that maybe, like the pixelated channels, it just needed time to reset, so I waited.
-
And FORTUNATELY, when I checked about an hour later, all my recorded programs were there! :D
-
HALLE-FREAKIN'-LOOYA!!
-
I spot checked the two operas and The Hours looked pretty good, but Medea did seem to have moments of pixelation, but very little, that I noticed, so I won't worry about it, since it's just for myself.
-
I started to record Medea onto my computer, and will continue to record it in chunks until video files for both programs are on my computer.
-
The plan is to make sure that the finished video files look good, then I can delete everything on both DVRs, then turn them in to Comcast and cancel TV and just have Internet.
-
I really haven't been watching any TV, and what I have has either been online (like on PBS's website) or today's topic of the day, YouTube, or DVDs/Blu-rays from the library.
-
PAGE SIX DANCE!!
-
The real question will be: will Comcast give me some kind of deal to keep the TV for a period of time instead of canceling? ::)
-
;)
-
If that happens, I might consider keeping it, but it would depend on the offer.
-
When my sister (first) canceled her TV, she got some kind of offer, but I forget what it was.
-
The other problem might be that I would have to upgrade to the newer DVRs.
-
The Motorola DVRs that I have are older models that specifically allow the recording of programs onto a Windows XP (specifically) computer through an Ethernet cable.
-
That's why I kept these DVRs AND my Winows XP computer (although, I do also have a Windows 10 computer).
-
If I get an offer to keep Comcast TV, I would probably need to get the newer DVRs that don't have the Ethernet outputs to allow the recording of programs onto a computer.
-
But if I had decided to get rid of TV anyway, I was willing to not have the ability to record programs onto a computer at all, so it's really a moot point, isn't it? ;D
-
Open 9 days a week is a mistake that is hard to imagine HOW it happened ;)
I know, right??
-
George, good luck you still have your programs to watch.

Yes, it's very easy to see if the library has an e-book. And no, Timberland doesn't have that title. Pierce County Library doesn't either.

It is rare I watch anything except short clips on YouTube.

I am enjoying Emily. It’s Gothic and passionate and engrossing. And it makes Charlotte Bronte out to be a goody-two-shoes.

Anne Bronte is kind of a cipher. But I loved her Tenant of Wildfell Hall.

It is happening more and more with authors I used to either check out from the library or purchase through Barnes & Noble.

It isn't the cost, the book is free with Kindle Prime (which I don't have) or only $5.99.
That price seems low for a just released book.

I tend to just read books on my kindle app when we are taking long flights, or multiple flights.
-
I have googled how to fix this and all I ever find are directions on how to lower the brightness the normal way.
-
I looked again today and didn't see anything news.
-
One of the things I like best about the Libby app is that it adjusts to the brightness setting on my tablet and I don't have to make an adjustment every time I read.
-
I wondered if I could somehow set my kindle app to do the same.
-
Yes, there is a auto adjustment.
-
It just might have fixed the problem.
-
Fingers crossed.

The app seems to be a bit dimmer, still not as good as Libby or Barnes & Noble.
-
Belated page eight dancers.

Nice.

Waiting
-
Read everything from 10 to 39 indictments.
-
This is irritating
-
Thanks George.

Good evening.
-
I got to play stacking blocks with the wee little ones yesterday during church. And no one cried.
-
Next Sunday is a potluck, so I'll probably be in the kitchen all morning.

Congratulations!
-
They just showed Emily at a funeral. I doubt, no matter the pioneer she was, that she would have done that back then.

Cute :)

That is not as much fun.
-
And no one cried.
The highest compliment of all!!
-
Keith is making popcorn but since I am full I told him not to make any for me.
-
Thanks very much for the link, DR George!
-
'night
-
Did you fill your tank when the price is down?
Sure did!
-
Starting the new season of Brokenwood Mysteries. A musical version of Brokenwood begins the story. Hilariously bad. Rabies rhymes with babies. And a rather bizarre murder midshow.
-
Hulu has put up the first two episodes of season three of "Only Murders in the Building".
Meryl Streep guests in the first one. Paul Rudd is in both of them. I was very entertained!!!
-
I am very interested in this newish 360 Audio Reality Sound. I read on FB a guy saying he was in heaven listening to the remastered Sondheim shows in that process.
I have yet to find any source of such recordings. Playbill did offer links, but every time I selected a track on one of the recordings, it only partially played. What's the point of having the whole thing available but not being able to rejoice in listening to it as recorded?

Loved that episode.

You're welcome, Singdaw!

DR Ron Pulliam - if you are an Amazon Prime member, you can hear these album versions on Amazon Music.

Loved that episode.
The best joke so far was about the “acidic” Jew backstage.

Vixmom, your grandchild is going to be born in Florida. Are you okay with that?
I’m not thrilled. Hoping against hope that they’ll finally wise up and vote the criminals out and replace the hate with sensibility.

Preach it.

Still waiting on Georgia.
-
Good night, friends.

Not even you?! Well done!

Keith is making popcorn but since I am full I told him not to make any for me.
So Keith pops corn and Jane don’t care

How does one call them up? Any time I enter one of the shows, I get the OBC original release...not a remaster.
-
Took a little break. I don't really have to write any more this evening, unless I feel inspired to do so. I've done sixteen pages and got through what I believe is the last of the really major sequences. Everything from here on in should be shorter.
-
The news out of Georgia is both sad and satisfying
-
Hello, everyone.
-
Jane, have you read any of Rhys Bowen’s stand-alone novels? I enjoyed them all, but I think The Venice Sketchbook is my favorite.
-
If Trump, for whatever reason, leaves the political arena, what do you think would happen to De Santis and other Trump wannabes? Would they change their stripes? Disappear?
-
The apartment beneath mine — my late friend Zen’s place — is being renovated and today the demolition of the kitchen and bathroom started. Bang! Bang! Bang! Ugh.
He had quite a few LPs. I went through some today, but there are many, many more. I grabbed the Segovia and Laurindo Almeida. I guess what I don’t take will go to a thrift shop.
-
Nothing more here.
TTFN.
-
Good night, all.

I assume they’ll try to court his rabid followers by playing up his persecuted he was, and then just attempt to mirror his bad but successful behaviors

Things I like watching on YouTube are old interviews with actors and directors, What’s My Line?, old free movies.

I haven't watched anything about it this evening.

So, I wanted to find out a little more about the opera The Hours and came across this website:
https://www.operaonvideo.com/ (http://https://www.operaonvideo.com/)
-
And it had the whole opera from what must've been a Europen broadcast.
-
It has this bug in the bottom left corner:
(O) EUR(O)VISION_EBU
-
And it doesn't have subtitles.
-
AND it's edited differently than what was broadcast on PBS!
-
It's very noticeable especially during the bows, and the after-show interviews on the broadcast have interviews with the composer and librettist, and the conductor, that this downloadable version doesn't have.
-
Very interesting.
-
Oh, look! It's Page Ten!
-
I'm still going to record the PBS broadcast and have both...not that I'll necessarily do anything with them like burn them to Blu-ray discs, but at least I'll have them.
-
And here we are.
-
Together again for the first time.
-
The whole two of us.
-
On page ten.
-
Wow...the act one finale to The Hours was really cool.
-
And now on to act two!
-
Together again for the first time.
A Young Frankenstein reference. ;D
-
Renée Fleming and Joyce DiDonato are, of course, wonderful, but Kelli O'Hara absolutely holds her own!
-
New notes are up.
-
Up are new notes.
-
I've seen them.
-
I've read them.
-
I wrote them.
-
New notes my ASS.
