Well, you've read the notes, the notes approached the finish line, and now it is time for you to post until the approaching the finish line cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: AFFABLE!
-
Topic of the Day: 1776 (the musical), and the original The Manchurian Candidate are the first two that I can think of.

Good morning, all!
-
Those best laid plans of mice and men don't always go as planned: I had a restless night, and it never fails: as soon as I was dressed, I was very sick. I've sent our DR ChasSmith an email requesting a date for next week, and I've sent my helper Mario a text canceling today.
-
I'm going back to bed.
-
And it's all taken care of.
Parking garage cancelled, and I have nothing on my calendar for the 24th through 30th, so we'll be doing it later.
Just get well and feel good soon, DR Elmore!!!
-
And, by the bye,
Good morning, all!
-
I also responded to your email, DR Elmore, in case you haven't seen it yet.
Now get back into bed with those kitties!
-
Good morning, friends.

I LOVE Day of the Jackal, and I can hardly believe BK never saw it. I saw it three times at the Dome, and the last time I watched it several years ago I thought it was as wonderful as always. Now I'll have to take it out and put it back on the watch pile...which is enormous these days.

Good morning.
Was up by 4:30 a.m. Congested beyond belief.
I had a cup of coffee, a Jimmy Dean muffin with egg, cheese and sausage, and then gave myself a breathing treatment with my new nebulizer and the meds my allergist prescribed.
Feeling better, but sleepy.

Good Morning - darkness has fallen over our Bright Star this weekend. So, I have a free weekend. I may try and see Tina - The Tina Turner Musical that is in town, but I may just stay close to home as well.
I'm here at school this morning - meetings and such. Thank goodness all is well around here!

From John:
Do you mean hummus? I read that as the fertilizer soil.
LOL, ditzy day for sure. I saw I needed to add the extra m and still didn't do it.
-
DR Matthew, I am sorry about your members of your cast having covid. Stay well.
-
Good for the library of DR Rodzinski.
-
From Rodzinski:
In a woods near here on a trail, there’s what they call an Enchanted Forest where people have put various gnomes and tree sprites, little animal statues and whatnot. The kids and I wanted to add to it, so we found a tiny chair at a thrift shop and a frog at another thrift shop, and we added those to the woods.
What a fun activity to do with the kids.

Anything Goes sets sail tonight.
I am working in the box office before the show, doing intermission, and then cleaning the house.....it's my AD and I, Sandi.
After that I am free until Saturday night when I will use my season tickets to see the show with two of my sisters and my niece.
-
Rainy day here, so I will be driving PT.

Good afternoon.

They are saying we will get a hurricane here on Saturday. I hope so.
-
The people on the right side of the country never say that, do they?
-
This is a storm off the coast of Mexico. Hopefully there will be some rain left in it when it gets here.
Phoenix airport, which is the official weather station, has had no rain at all this summer.
-
Here's hoping, DR Laura.
-
It seems the folks that need to be outraged about a new thing each day have settled on Bradley Cooper's fake nose (the makeup for playing Leonard Bernstein).
-
I am saddened to learn that thirteen years after his rescue, Leo the former lab cat, has died.
-

One that doesn't do harm but provides just the right amount of water.

Oh goodness, I read that yesterday. I understand it would be nice if a Jewish actor played him, however, complaining makeup was used to add the nose ::) ::) ::)
-
Leo was a lab cat who was intended to be "experimented" upon, primarily his eyes as I recall. The original intention, which still goes on, was to torture and maim the cat with experiments and tests, then euthanize it. Leo was rescued, got a book written about hm, and lived a long life. This is his photo from a couple of years go.
My memory of the book is that the proceeds go to animal rescue.

Then there are those yelling Sandra Bullock should return her Oscar because of the discord between the people Blind Side is based on ::)
-
Michael Oher who starred in the film with her has come out in her defense, but why should it even be necessary.
-
Kristen Bell & her husband Dax Shepard shared a story of being stranded at the Boston airport with no available hotels within 50 miles. Lots of flights had been cancelled & others booked rooms before they could. I think the funny part is the outrageous amount they spent on pillows and bedding to sleep at the airport, but then they got kicked out of the airport along with other stranded travelers.
-
A friend of a friend did end up taking them in.

Horrible, and I'm sure it goes on. I take comfort in Leo's rescue and good life afterward.
-
Harmless story they shared, along with pics of them hanging out at the airport.
Yet stupid hateful comments were made against them, including saying they lied about the lack of hotel rooms.
-
Shepard couldn't understand why anyone would be mad about that story.
-
I liked Bell's responses.

"A lot of people just get on the internet and they say, 'Buddy, what should I Google?' And they just Google angry, mad stuff. They want to be angry about something,"
-
"You're not taking into consideration that it could be one person that has 80 accounts. I think we’re giving it too much thought. Also there are people that are unhappy. Humans desire an 'us' and 'them.' It's in our software. We have to fight it all the time. And lately, people are just arbitrarily choosing the 'us' and 'them,"

This afternoon I indulged in the first Wendy's burger I've had in a few years. I might have stopped there once since the lockdown, so this would be my second one since. But I used to eat tons of Wendy's burgers. Tons of them.
Anyhoo, it was good. I ordered it with the same things I always did, and it tasted just like old times. That's all one can ask, right? The fries were a little bland, with way too little salt. I know some places try to go easier on the salt than in past years, but I don't go there for my health, and a little more flavor would have been welcome. The Coke was just fine.
And that's the Wendy's repor.
-
LOL regarding you don't go there for your health.

I wrote six pages of score for No.39 today. I skipped No.38 since I am out of four-stave paper.

Michael Oher who starred in the film with her has come out in her defense, but why should it even be necessary.
Minor correction: Oher is the real-life football guy who is speaking out against the family. The guy who came out in her defense was the actor who played Oher in the film.
-
This is Pancake, who was brought into the Manhattan shelter today. I would love to adopt him. I think he's adorable,
-
Not that anyone needs to defend her. The idea of taking away her award is absurd.

Today we got Prevnar 20 vaccinations for pneumonia.
-
They are now recommended for those over 65 on top of the other vaccinations we had for pneumonia.
-
We learned about it when I was suffering with my chronic cough and waited until I was better to get vaccinated.
-
I still have a chronic cough but it is a slight one, back to my normal chronic cough vs constantly having coughing attacks.

Decided on that good mac-and-cheese again. And it was good again.

Cooling down the house.
-
I think I figured out the problem with the warm air - you just can't let the thermostat go over 79 - once it does, it's warm air. But under 80 and it's always cold all the time. Go know.
-
Futzing and finessing took forever - twenty pages with lots of smoothing out, moving things around and getting everything to work.
-
I've written ten new pages and I suspect I'll finish tonight. I think maybe there's about ten to fifteen pages left, ten being the more likely.
-
But first, a little break.
-

I guess I would have expected it to turn off. Setting it to 79 degrees seems really high.
-
I'm not sure I have ever set a thermostat that high.
-
My thermostat is set at 81.
-
I first I went "wow", but on second thought it makes sense, It has to blow out cold air since it has to work to keep it that cool.
-
Which means that something is wrong with Bruce's thermostat ;)

'night
-
Good Evening - the rest of the school day was fine. I got home and did a 12 mile bike ride, took a shower and here I am. Today was DD JP's first day back at camp. He and DD Leo should sleep the night away and most of tomorrow I would suspect. At the moment, they are sitting under my desk waiting for me to share my dinner - which is the lunch I made yesterday that I didn't eat. If they're lucky, they may get a piece of cheese.
-
Didn't Bruce's thermostat just get replaced?
-
:)
-
Oh fer cute.
-
I suspect I'll finish tonight.
Wouldn't that be wonderful!
-
Good night, friends.
-
Starting a British war film called Dark Journey with Conrad Veidt and Vivien Leigh. Interesting.
-
I’m a quarter into Tom Lake. The combination of good novel and Meryl Streep reading it is keeping a smile permanently on my face.

My new glasses are in. Will try to pick them up tomorrow.

And now...
-
PAGE SIX DANCE!!
-
Page Six My Ass!
-
Anything Goes opening night went well. Thanks to all for the vibes.
Box office & concessions ran smoothly and we talked to a LOT of folks who just wanted to stand and talk......
-
Stand and talk. The title of George Bernard Shaw’s next play.
-
Good night, all.
-
I do believe that I, BK, have just finished a book.
-
I had no idea of what the last few paragraphs would be and I knew I needed a great ending line - the last line came to me several hours ago so it was just a matter of fashioning the five paragraphs that would precede it.
-
And it's exactly as I predicted: 461 pages. (Well, I predicted 460). 91,570 words.
-
I am SPENT.
-
A wet noodle.
-
And should it need to said:
-
Novella my ASS.
-
I do believe that I, BK, have just finished a book.
Congrats, BK!!
-
And this is the first time you wrote two books in one year?
-
Yes - I did do the short story book in the same year as a novel, but this is the first time for two novels in one year.
-
I do NOT understand why we're on page six.
-
And only halfway.
-
Someone better get some postin' goin' on.
-
Okay, George, WHAT? WHAT? WHAT? That is three WHATS.
-
Page SIX is redix
-
This MUST stop and you WILL be held accountable.
-
I just don't get it. What, did your friend call again and you're out stuffing your face with free tacos?
-
I was balancing the TAO checkbook.
-
But it's not finished. ::)
-
And then, I needed to add up how much was spent on costumes and concessions so far, so that we can figure if we're on the way to at least breaking even.
-
I think we will be, but I'm not sure, yet.
-
Then, I started recording the opera Fire Shut Up in My Bones (https://www.metopera.org/season/2023-24-season/fire-shut-up-in-my-bones/) (Great Performances at The Met on PBS) from my DVR to my computer.
-
But then I actually started watching it, at just really enjoyed it!
-
It was the first time that an opera written by an African American had ever performed at The Metropolitan Opera!
-
It was based on the memoirs of Charles M. Blow, and it deals with some pretty intense events.
-
PAGE SEVEN DANCE!!
-
The opera takes place in and around the small and poor town of Gibsland, in northwestern Louisiana, as well as at Blow’s alma mater, Grambling State University. The time ranges from Charles’s childhood in the 1970s to his adulthood in the 1990s.
-
It deals with Charles being (sexually) abused by an older cousin. :o
-
It's all handled very tastefully, but the opera is really well written and all the performers are really good.
-
Of course, they would be...it's the Metropolitan Opera.
-
And now, for something completely different...
-
THE PRIME OF LIFE by Isaac Asimov. ;D
-
It was, in truth, an eager youth
Who halted me one day.
-
He gazed in bliss at me, and this
Is what he had to say:
-
"Why, mazel tov, it's Asimov,
A blessing on your head!
-
For many a year, I've lived in fear
That you were long since dead.
-
Or if alive, one fifty-five
Cold years had passed you by,
-
And left you weak, with poor physique,
Thin hair and rheumy eye.
-
For sure enough, I've read your stuff
Since I was but a lad
-
And couldn't spell or hardly tell
The good yarns from the bad.
-
My father, too, was reading you
Before he met my Ma.
-
For you he earned, once he had learned
About you from _his_ Pa.
-
Since time began, you wondrous man,
My ancestors did love
-
That s.f. dean and writing machine
The aged Asimov."
-
I'd had my fill. I said: "Be still!
I've kept my old-time spark.
-
My step is light, my eye is bright,
My hair is thick and dark."
-
His smile, in brief, spelled disbelief,
So this is what I did;
-
I scowled, you know, and with one blow,
I killed that rotten kid.
-
[End]
-
That was written in 1966...the year that I was born! :D
-
Author's remark: "Mazel tov" is a Hebrew phrase meaning "good fortune" and it is used by Jews as a joyful greeting on jubilant occasions - as a meeting with me should surely be.
-
Notes : First Published in the Magazine Of Fantasy and Science Fiction, October 1966, the original title was ‘I’m in the prime of life, you rotten kid !’. Edward L. Ferman, editor of F&SF, shortened that to ‘The prime of life’. It is also part of a collection of stories by Asimov titled ‘ The Bicentennial Man and Other Stories’.
-
George is here.
-
And happily has posted up a storm.
-
And yet, I am forced to say I do not care for page seven.
-
I do not wish to BE on page seven.
-
Pronunciation note: In the humorous poem "The Prime of Life" published in the anthology The Bicentennial Man and Other Stories, Asimov rhymes his name thusly: "Why, mazel tov, it's Asimov". In his comments to the poem Asimov wrote that originally it was "Why, stars above, it's Asimov", and when someone* suggested to use "mazel tov" instead, Asimov accepted this as a significant improvement.
-
And I am NOT on page seven because I wished it into the cornfield.
-
New notes are up.
-
Up are new notes.
-
I've seen them.
-
*I remember reading his note about "Stars above" vs. "Mozel tov" and that it was an attractive young woman who suggested the change. ;)
-
I've read them.
-
I wrote them.
-
I do not wish to BE on page seven.
But you're not! :o
-
I am woman hear me roar.
-
I am woman hear me roar.
Thank you, Helen Reddy!

Gratuitous Post #222!!
