Good morning, all! All of this inhaling of Liquid Paper fumes is killing me! I will be glad when this GOLDEN APPLE cleanup is finished, but the regular nausea and headache is not fun.
Why inhale? There are other products that you can use. There is a pratically good one that is a small container and covers one line at a time. Don;t know the name of it. But take a look for it.
Still waiting to hear from DRJASON!
DRELMORE - it is called CORRECTION TAPE. 8)

Yhank you, dear friend! It doesn't look as expedient a solution as Liquid Paper, alas. You simply cover the old note, redraw the bar line in ink and write in the new note. And pass out from the fumes. There are several different brands of correction tape.
There are several different brands of correction tape.
I prefer the Liquid Paper brand called Dryline Grip. You can get one at any Staples, OfficeMax, Duane Reades.
I use it constantly at work.. no fumes, you can immediately write over it and it doesn't leave a shadow when you photocopy. I do recommend you give it a try dear elmore

All right, I'm going to walk around the corner to Staples and buy some. Then I will try it out on some blank music paper.
Are we suddenly in Cinemascope or are my eyes fogging up from the fumes?
DR Jrand - For butterscotch whipped cream, you simply sweeten regular whipped cream with brown sugar instead of the standard granular white stuff. And add a dash of Butter Flavored Extract - yes, they do make such a thing, just your baking aisle - in place of vanilla. I forget the exact proportion of sugar to cream, but simply replace the amount of white sugar with brown sugar. And like in standard whipped cream recipes, don't start adding the sugar until the cream has started to thicken up a bit. And be sure to break up the brown sugar as much as you can to avoid lumps. -Although, I guess you could use that "brownulated" stuff that Domino makes. Hmm...
...Unless Cool Whip has come out with another flavor...
*You can also use pulverized Butterscotch Candy Discs - just put them in a blender or food processor - or a ziploc bag and give them a couple of good whacks with a rolling pin.
**That's how I like to do Peppermint Whipped Cream, in fact.
You can make whipped cream? How do you get it in the can? ;D

So, Dear Friend BK, when's the next live chat?
My first question for ASK BK day:
What is your favorite song from PIPPIN? And if it is Magic to Do, what is your SECOND favorite song from PIPPIN?
Last night, bk wrote: "MattH, as you've read here, I have three of the four Fox releases for next week. The only one I haven't got is A Tree Grows in Brooklyn."
BK, I do read the notes every day, but I can only remember your discussing THE MAN IN THE GREY FLANNEL SUIT. Has my senile brain forgotten thoughts about CHARLOTTE and CHICAGO?
Given the overwhelming silence that greeted my query as to which day and time would be good for everyone, I thought no one was interested. Unless people are simply skipping the notes and missed that query.
I can't do it this evening, but tomorrow or Friday would work just fine.
Question for Ask BK Day -
Has there ever been an artist that you've encountered - either just as an audience member or in the recording studio - who "records" differently than they sound live?
This may be a moot point with today's recording technology, but was there anyone who "surprised" you live vs. on record, or vice versa?
Thank you everyone for your congratulations and well wishes. I did indeed accept the position and will begin as an official employee sometime in the next 1-2 weeks.

I just ordered William Mann's biography on director John Schlesinger, but it won't arrive until next week. Has anyone read it already and has any thoughts to convey?
I loved his books on William Haines and behind the scenes in Hollywood, so I'm looking forward to this.
Well, the trick is to make them sound in the studio like they sound live, but make it work for the studio, if that makes any sense. It's a different mindset for the singer, and most can adapt to it right away. I will say that Cheneweth's Lion Tamer is sung in a completely open and honest way, in a voice I've never really heard from her since. I wish she'd do a whole album singing the way she did on that track.

DR Jennifer, I got THE FORGOTTEN off STARZ! movie channel, so it'll be the theatrical version or nothing. Thanks for the warning. Several other friends who saw it at the theater were less than satisfied, too, but I wanted to see for myself.
All right, I've bought this Liquid Paper Dryline Grip; it's pretty good, since there's no paper strip, but it's bad because it doesn't want to work with anything but a ballpoint pen, and I'm using indelible ink and felt pens. But it's a great solution for the most part.
I have been arranging things like magazines and books to put in my tote to carry on the plane. Otherwise, I have noi idea what clothes will be coming with me.
DRELMORE - glad it sort of worked for you and was not a complete failure since you made the special trip!
This article about manners at the theatre reminded me of what happened last week at MAMMA MIA. Now I like kids a lot. But I have little patience for people without manners at the theatre.
Anyhow there were a lot of kids at the show. And most of them were very well behaved. But there was a little girl sitting behind me (maybe 6 or 7). And i could tell that she was going to aggravate me. It seemed like her parents had not prepared her about the story of the show. Or told her how to behave (not to talk...).
Well in the first 15 minutes, she asked so many questions, made so many comments, it was just driving me crazy. So i quietly turned around to her father and asked if he could please ask her to stop talking since i could not hear what was happening on stage.
He did. She stopped. And that was that.
I turned around and thanked him (although i thought he might be annoyed at me). I did feel bad, even though i said it nicely.
But IMO you need to tell kids that they cannot talk BEFORE the show starts. I'm guessing nobody else would have asked her to shut up. And she would have ruined the show for everyone around her.

...That could almost be a TV show: "My Favorite Filipino." Sounds like a hit! When my sister was growing up, she had an imaginary Filipino pony...
DR LAURA your pictures are better than the ones on my calendar!
When my sister was growing up, she had an imaginary Filipino pony...
;)
Thanks. But you don't see the hundreds I delete!
That sounds like our DRJose! Never the bridesmaid, always the ride.
...Herb Ross is a pig, may he rot in hell, and the GMHC folk drove me crazy by their bad casting (with the late great Mr Ross, ptui!)...But, tell us, DRElmore, what do you really think of Mr. Ross?
and this is for DR SWWWhy, thank you!!!

But, tell us, DRElmore, what do you really think of Mr. Ross?
DR elmore - I placed a few calls, got a couple of answering machines. However, I did pass on your inquiry to Curtis, and he may throw some names your way too.
*I figured I'd just answer you here, since it would take some extra time to get AOL all loaded up.
... And it's a post too!
Weii, since you asked! I think Mr Ross was a better choreographer than a director, and I believe that he was a total pig on JUBILEE: he was arrogant, rude, and he wasted a lot of GMHC's money on his petty demands. He also wasted a lot of my time with his poor casting choices. No, I don't like Mr Ross nor am I sorry the old shit is dead.
That sounds like our DRJose! Never the bridesmaid, always the ride.
I just read on Playbill.com that Rosie O'Donnell may be coming in as Golde in FIDDLER on B'way until it closes. Or maybe she's coming in to ENSURE it closes! Is she shilling for Ensure these days? (Tevye's milk isn't good enough for her?)
remind me to stay on your good side!!! :-* :-* :-* :-*
(I make very few demands and NEVER get to make casting choices) :-* :-* :-* :-*
Today is National Watermelon Day!
On Christmas Day, Anna Sten-torian to her presents.
Well THAT explains THISThat's a fuit of a different color! I'll stick to apples.
(well not really)
Am home today nursing allergy symptoms that include a headache behind my left eye and a sore throat.
For the squeamish among you, I will only say that my left eye is "leaky" and leave it at that.
That's a fuit of a different color! I'll stick to apples.
FJL, between Ben the Rat, Gentle Ben and Benjie the dog, I got so many name jokes that I stopped hearing them after a while. I guess because Ben is not that common a name, though it seems to be making a comeback, people pick up on it. No offense taken ;D
Alas, we did not pass inspection. The Inspector wants this valve to be pink.
That's a fuit of a different color! I'll stick to apples.Bobbing?
RonP: My loverly P.A. suggested a "new" (new to me, anyway) expectorant/decongestant pill that is WONDERFUL! It's called Musinex. There's also Humibid. Apparently I'm the last singer/actor in New York to hear about these medications. They're both available OTC.
Bobbing?

DRJose, you are a saint. I'm almost sorry I say such bad things about you.
My second question for ASK BK day:
Have you ever on first viewing or hearing really disliked a movie, song, or record....but as time went on, your opinion became not only favorable, but downright jubilant?
If you want after you watch it I can tell you the alternate ending (with spoiler space). And the one deleted scene i noticed made a very distinct impact.
Now I'm listening to SONDHEIM AT THE MOVIES; I think my faves are "What Can You Lose?" and "The Glamorous Life." I'm rather proud of that.
On a sadder note, fashion designer Donald Brooks, who designed PROMISES, PROMISES and ON A CLEAR DAY died recently.
Well, sometimes "true" doesn't necessarily equate with "bad".
-Am I sensing some jealousy?
;)

Another boy scout has died by being struck by lightning.I think you might have something there...
Remember when AIDS first reared its head and all the fundamentalists who claimed it was God's wrath on Gays for their "sinful" lifestyle?
You think this spate of boy scout and scoutmaster deaths by eletrocution and lightning might be God expressing his displeasure that the Scouts have banned Gay Scoutmasters?
I've got a monkey in my hatband.
Question for DR MattH and NYC HHW folks - is there a gathering planned during MattH's upcoming visit?
Now it is pink:
You're my favorite Ben. I like Ben Frankin, too! Especially when he comes out of the ATM.
I found this tag when I was painting. I don't know what it means.

My question for BK
Re: today;s column name
I'M DANCING AS FAST AS I CAN
Have you seen that movie?
BK:
Remind me what the Harvey Schmidt album is all about.
DRMichaelShayne, if I knew what it was, weren't on a deadline, and knew that this product was as good for rewriting on score paper, I'd do so. I have to have this clean up done by monday: it will take two weeks to scan the new masters and to print new parts for the concert, which is August 28th. This would put the orchestra rehearsals sometime between Aug 21 and 27! I do appreciate your concern, but I'm screwed.
Didn't get it. I'll look for it in Chicagoland this weekend.
Now it is pink:
I am listening to Guyu Haines singing LITTLE RED HAT....my favorite songs on this nifty new CD are ON YOUR TOES, PINT OF NO RETURN, and of course LOVE LOOK AWAY!
Actually, the pint of no return is when I decided to join AA.
For those of you who have asked, I will not be playing Jed's father in CHARLEY'S AUNT. Apparently the director thought that such a thing would stretch credibility.
LOL! ;DYes, it did! I thought der B had responded, or I would have said something earlier.
Did your package arrive?
For those of you who have asked, I will not be playing Jed's father in CHARLEY'S AUNT. Apparently the director thought that such a thing was beyond credibility.
I think DRMBarnum would also like PINT YOUR WAGON.
Tower Lincoln Center finally confirmed and even upped their initial order of CDs - those are going out today, so New Yorkers will be able to find our CDs exclusively in Tower.
Dear reader Laura, you do realize that if anyone is doing a google search on "test" or "cock" they will find haineshisway.com.
I was watching the remastered twilight zones and one of things they have is a ten second promo. On this particular episode it was for My Sister Eillen. Did anyone ever see that show? Ruth was played by Elaine stritch. She really was really beautiful
Now it is pink:But it isn't Barbie pink!!!! Bring on the Neon!!!!!!
Curtis with Joshua's hand on his head:Thing lives!!!!!
DR TPunk - Wanna come up to Williamstown this weekend?
;)
Oooh, I'm very tempted.
DRJose, thanks for the photos.
They are a handsome bunch, aren't they?

Trivia (and where else could you find trivia about Mizer and Moore): Tom Mizer played Steve (named after the star of the TV show, whose name actually was Steve) in the phenomenally successful Blue's Clue's tour not that many years ago. When the show played Radio City, Mizer's face loomed over Times Square for several weeks, IIRC.
DR Ron, is it warm where you are? It sure is warm in Mt View, not much wind, though. Stay cool and drugged :)Actually, Oakland was rather pleasant all day. I slept the better part of the afternoon away.
OK. This is my last post for several days. I do not believe I'll have internet access while in NYC, so I'll have a full report when I return Sunday afternoon.
Take care, everyone.
DR TCB, one could not possibly ask an audience to believe that a man so young could possibly have fathered a man Jed's age. I know there's suspension of disbelief, but that's just going too far! :)
Oh Jason, I love you!:-* :-* :-* :-*
Yeah....if he spreads peanut butter as thickly as he spreads flattery, he's gonna have a cholesterol problem by the time he's 30!
:D
I actually have to decide it I'm going to make a trip out to California next weekend. A good friend of mine is working on the San Jose Jazz Festival and asked me if I could come out and work on it for a week.
I feel very fortunate- 2 weeks ago I was faced with leaving my job a month earlier than I had planned. And now I have more opportunities than I know what to do with!
Yeah....if he spreads peanut butter as thickly as he spreads flattery, he's gonna have a cholesterol problem by the time he's 30!
:D
Well... Not really... Since peanut butter is a plant derived food, it does not - and can not - contain any cholesterol. Cholesterol is only found in animal tissue. So, unless Skippy starts adding bacon fat to their line of products...
;)
OK. This is my last post for several days. I do not believe I'll have internet access while in NYC, so I'll have a full report when I return Sunday afternoon.
Take care, everyone.
However... With the way some peanuts are processed nowadays for peanut butter, there may be issues with "bad fat" and triglycerides, so... And if you spread that peanut butter on bread that's been made with bleached, processed white flour, well, then you may have a problem.
;)
