Well, you've read the notes, the notes tried to remember the kind of September, and now it is time for you to post until the September cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: BONANZA!
-
The leaves of brown came tumbling down, remember?
September
In the rain.
-
Bonanza was my favorite restaurant when I was a kid.
-
Nice bracelet fix, G!
-
Now don’t lose it!
-
Nice bracelet fix, G!
Thanks, R!
-
Now don’t lose it!
A third time would NOT be a charm!! :o
-
;)
-
This public service announcement is to tell you that no matter what anyone says, Summer isn’t over until September 23. Don’t let it go too soon!
-
Now don’t lose it!
A third time would NOT be a charm!! :o
Nor a charm bracelet!
-
Sitting in my car outside your house
‘Member when you spilled Coke all over your blouse?
T-shirt, cutoffs and a pair of thongs
We’ve been having fun all summer long.
-
Never fails to take my breath away when the marimba kicks in and the actor credits pop up at the end of American Graffiti.

This is pretty cool (to me, at least). On Facebook in the The Manhattan Transfer group, someone posted a link to a song called Farmer's Market (https://open.spotify.com/track/0twA3XW25WUpPo846eajAq?si=dd9a8a354a3a4ae5&fbclid=IwAR1rc7YD56QG0Zywhq_F7j2uwuGMGdfgakAEAGed02XGIpxa14GSGyBe0K0&nd=1) by Cheryl Bentyne, the soprano of the group. That was recorded for an audio-DVD called Among Friends (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00009Y3L7/), which I have. I also actually saw her in a solo concert in Seattle around the time of my birthday that year (whatever year it was ::) ) and was able to get her autograph!
-
But I had forgotten that BK's close and personal friend and landlord, Grant Geissman, also played on that recording!
-
AND I also have the audio-DVD called There and Back Again (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0002WZSBM/) by The Grant Geissman Quintet!
(https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/81LEirTRcjL._SL1500_.jpg)
(This is the picture from Amazon's listing. My copy isn't autographed by Grant.)
-
Pretty cool, huh?? ;D
-
So, Topic of the Day: both of those will be in my DVD player (but not at the same time)!
-
Dueling
banjos DVDs!
-
Good morning, friends.
-
Good morning, all!
-
I slept rather well, and IU wish I could have stayed in bed longer. Three cats had other plans.

~~~IMMINENT IMPORTANT ENVELOPE ARRIVAL VIBES~~~ for the likes of BK!!!!!!!!
-
Yesterday, after I got home from my outing, the day completely fell apart:
1. The AC discharged a huge amount of water all over my living area, causing me to lurch about as I tried as quickly as possible (hah!) to get towels from the bathroom to soak up the mess;
2. that sent me to the phone to call building management and yell about the fact that no one had returned my call about the problem;
3. because I need one hand on my cane and the other hand on some support, I kept dropping things and needing to crawl around the floor in search of such dropped items;
4. around 5:30 the unpleasant woman at building management called to say she did not appreciate my rude message, that she sent someone to check on the AC, and I told her that no one had been here to check out the situation; I do not like her at all.
-
The only thingI successfully ,amaged all afternoon was putting the laundry together for tomorrow. I would do it today, but Jason is coming by to help me with some computer questions and Jen is coming by to check out my TV issues.
-
Good morning, all.
-
I’m tired, but can’t sleep.
-
Nice bracelet and story, George.
-
Busy day ahead.
They’re all too busy lately.
Good morning, all.
A great night of sleeping weather. It was 58 or thereabouts when I was waking up this morning, and boy did the room feel like it.
It's also going to be just about the most perfect weather imaginable for a Labor Day Weekend: clear and 75 today, 80 Saturday, mid-to-high 80s on Sunday, and around 90 on Monday. It's rare that everyone gets such a solid clear forecast for a holiday weekend.
I'm not quite as delighted about the following few days which will also be around 90, but I guess I'd rather have that than have it all take an early dump into unpleasantly early cold fall weather. I have lots of outdoor work to do, and I'll just have to discipline myself to getting out there in the morning hours for that.
-
That's really upsetting about the leaking air conditioner in DR Elmore's apartment.
Even more so, given the management company's attitude. Vibes the right person actually does come out, and gets it fixed.
-
Pick a tomato... any tomato.
-
I should get those Beach Party movies out. Been a long time. This reminder may have come at an opportune time, given the very summery weather coming up here. I do like to watch certain movies at "appropriate" times. Other summer movies that are a tradition at this house are the Jaws films (even the bad ones at least once, but mainly the original of course), Twister, watching a few evenings of Shark Week, that kind of thing.
That wonderful Beach Party-inspired motion picture, Winter A-Go-Go, will of course wait until January.
-
DR John G., I've got a bell for you...
-
If I were a bell
-
Jason just sent me this selfie of all of us on our way to lunch!
-
I'd go ding dong ding dong ding.
-
Nice shot, DR elmore3003.
-
Oh, fer cute.
-
Jason just sent me this selfie of all of us on our way to lunch!
Photographic evidence!
That's a good shot, and I'm glad he was good at taking selfies. I don't think I've ever taken a decent one.
-
And two more of the Tuesday cartons and lunch day
-
Great photos, Elmore. Thanks for sharing.
-
DR John G., I've got a bell for you...
They are lighter weight, so one can handle them. I still wouldn’t want to play it.
-
Great photos of great lads out on the town!
-
Vibes for an improving day for DR ELMORE.
Yes, great photos!
-
I didn't post the PLAY THAT GOES WRONG clip.....but it was fun to watch.....and even more fun to do!
-
Important envelope vibes for MR BK.
-
Yesterday was full of great stories here on HHW.....my favorites were:
DR RON PULLIAM'S birthday dinner with his cousins.
DR VIXMOM'S giving the mechanic the business - as Wally Cleaver used to say.
And DR GEORGE and the traveling bracelet.
-
I do not have rehearsal tonight - so I will enjoy the whole day (and tomorrow) doing OR not doing anything I like.
-
Pick a tomato... any tomato.
I'll take that big red one on the 2nd row from the bottom.
A slice of that one will make a delicious mater sammich!
-
Good morning, good day!
How are you this beautiful day?
-
Great start for me, beginning page three!
-
Here we are at the start of a Belabored Day Weekend.
Labor Day is Monday, but since sales start today, along with advertising campaigns and sales, I think it fair and accurate to describe the "weekend" as somewhat belabored.
-
I had a fantastic night's sleep.
When I finally got up, because my brain won't let me drift off any longer, I was still quite sleepy.
A cup of coffee, two toasted/buttered English muffins later, and the final half hour of "Morning Joe' (Joe-less, Mika-less and Willie-less) with Jonathan Lemire kept my attention as he dealt with headlines in the news.
I have no plans for today. Of course, there will be the post office visit, and a trip to Third Generation for the Friday lunch of baked catfish.
All y'all have a great day!
-
Hit It, Lorraine!
Guess what CD arrived in my mailbox this morning.
-
DR Jrand I am glad your rehearsal was better last night.
-
Fresh warm cookies delivered to the house, not bad :)
-
From DR Ron:
This evening, I met my cousin Butch, his fiancee Sharon, and my cousin (Butch's sister) Debra at the club for a nice evening out.
Debra and I had steak and fixins...Butch and Sharon had blackened salmon and fixins. We had excellent conversation, many people stopped by and said hello, and then we decided we should vacate our table and go home.
My meal was bought by Debra's son, Chad, one of the nicest relatives I know. She had told him it was a birthday dinner for me and that Butch and Sharon invited her. He demanded that my meal be paid for by him and that my dinner companions could simply be my present!
A memorable birthday, in advance, for moi!
That certainly made your birthday celebration special.
-
From DR Vixmom:
4 hours later I received a call from Steve ,” uh, we checked all the codes and cleared those out and tested all the door locks and all the electronics and um, uh it seems the problem is the uh ( mumbles) drivers door acuator
:))
-
Vixmom I think it was a wise decision to purchase the name brand.
-
Do you have any idea what the price for the part would have been from the service department?
-
Vixmom:
By way of an apology the building management hired a Mr. Softee truck to spend an hour at our building and everyone was welcome to have one cone or cup for free
Wow, what a nice guy.
-
I'm sure it was popular.
-
If it was an option, I would have gotten a plane vanilla cone.
-
Children's size.
-
From George:
And Jane, I just noticed that in two more posts, you'll reach a momentous milestone!! :D
If I had read this before posting away this morning I might have captured it ;D
-
From DR Rodzinski:
The library copy of Preview Harvey is in!
Cool.
-
Even if it is a paperback.
-
From Rodzinski:
I thought I was blessed, then I met a man who had never in his life seen a cockroach.
:))
-
From George:
Anyway, the producer got everyone an Until There's a Cure bracelet (the silver plated version, but still it was really cool), and I'd been wearing it ever since.
Very nice, both the benefit and the bracelett.
-
George, your bracelet looks very nice on. I'm glad it was found, and now fixed.
-
Nice.
I'll take that big red one on the 2nd row from the bottom.
What? And not the one half a mile back? :)
No! That one has cooties!
-
Speaking of cooties, most of the Hurrican Idalia cooties have evaporated.
-
I had fried catfish for lunch. Tasty. Double helping of grits! And some creamed potatoes.
-
I will be having a green salad for dinner, so I don't want anyone worring about my intake of carbs, etc.
-
I have "Billions" playing in the background. I am always fascinated by anything Damian Lewis does. Ditto Paul Giamatti.
They are both in the pilot. But it's kind of a weird watch for me, which is why I am here typing and only listening.
I won't likely watch the series. These high-finance folks who fluff people over out of greed just don't fascinate me.
Back from mail place - thankfully both important envelopes were there.
-
Cashed the check - in and out in four minutes.
-
Studio City BofA loooooong line.
-
Sherman Oaks BofA - shorter line but two tellers and several idiots who have nothing better to do than spend their day at the bank. The problem, of course, is that Monday is a holiday so everyone piles on today.
-
Thirty minutes, in and out.
-
Wanted Subway for lunch but I wasn't near any branches so I went to order online. Well, turns out the Subway they deliver from has online prices that differ wildly from store prices - I'm talking like four or five bucks higher for the delivery services. They have the 30% off before five thing but even then it costs way more than getting it at the store. So, I'll do Subway tomorrow. Today is Charley's Cheesesteaks. Two small ones - total calories, under 1000.
-
I will be having a green salad for dinner, so I don't want anyone worring about my intake of carbs, etc.
We found out today that a neighbor had a heart attack and is in ICU. His wife said she dialed 911, and then had to figure out the proper way to make the call from her iPhone.
-
(https://support.apple.com/library/content/dam/edam/applecare/images/en_US/iOS/ios-16-iphone-14-pro-power-off-screen.png)
-
I knew there was an SOS option on my cell phone but didn't realized I couldn't dial 911.
-
To get to that screen I need to simultaneously press a button on each side of my phone which I find awkward.
-
Keith only has to hold down a button on the right side of his phone until his screen pops up, so much easier.
-
On the other hand, I have a quick link to my medical emergency info that he doesn't have. I'm going to do a search and find out where it is on his phone.
-
Basically all I can find is information on how to add emergency info to an android phone, not how to retrieve the information on a locked phone.
-
Back from mail place - thankfully both important envelopes were there.
Whew!
-
Basically all I can find is information on how to add emergency info to an android phone, not how to retrieve the information on a locked phone.
Wow! They really want to make things as difficult as possible in an emergency, don't they?? :o
-
Yup.
-
Good afternoon! It's been a non-stop day. We had a minimum day - which I taught the entire morning. Then we had a 2 hour in-service we had to attend, which I give maybe a 3/5. It didn't suck, but it was like "WOW" either. I'm now home. The boys went to camp today (instead of Thursday) so they will be out of if all evening. I have some things to do and then I'm done for the day. Not sure what's up for the evening. Tomorrow is laundry day and then going to visit some pals across the bay.
It is the start of a long holiday weekend, so that is nice.
The machinery has begun to turn: this afternoon the publisher asked for my final draft of Annabelle & Thatch.
Wonderful news!!!!!
-
My local/regional library with around 15 branches sent out their September news email.
-
It talks about the importance of libraries and not banning books, and while not my library system there is a story of another library in danger.
-
:(
"Columbia County, Washington is facing a possible closure of their only library because disagreements over a few books prompted a citizen to file a petition to dissolve the library. Voters will decide the library’s fate in November. This is one example of the possible results of censorship. Rather than have a library with books that offend some readers, they may have no library at all. When a library has something that offends everyone, it also has something that delights, supports, and represents everyone, too."
-
Hi, Jane.
-
Today was acupuncture, Trader Joe’s, then tacos. My first trip to the store in two weeks!
-
I started The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek last night. I had never heard of the blue people before, but I did know that many of the mountain people were very poor and quite isolated. The thirties were such a difficult time for so many.
-
Tacos - yum!!
-
All is right with the world.
Well, some parts of it anyway.
LOL, that's good. Are you feeling better?
-
Yesterday, Oprah, along with several others, donated $10 million ( total) to the people in Maui who lost their homes in the fires. FEMA is giving a one-time grant to each of the victims of $700. That won’t go very far. But the Maui People’s Fund, created with the $10 million, will give $1200/month to each adult. Very pleased to see this.
Have a good weekend, everyone.
Published four months later, The Giver of Stars by Jojo Moyes is a similar story you might find interesting. I read Giver and still read Creek knowing they were very similar.
Golly! I have long had a disdain for Downey...and it is now completely erased. His performance in this film is brilliance!
I liked the movie very much.
Tonight, we played only two games of Phase 10.
-
I lost both.
-
But we had fun...for the most part.
-
A few weeks ago, I bought a box of individual bags of popcorn, and my mom kept it on her covered back porch.
-
Tonight, three of us had a bag each (they're 100 calories each bag) but when I went to get another one for myself, I saw that the bag I was looking at had tiny puncture marks all over it! :o
-
I looked at the other bags that were left in the box and they ALL had teeth marks, and a couple were even opened!
-
And then I noticed a hole about three inches in diameter has been chewed into the side of the box!!
-
FORTUNATELY, we looked at the bags that we had eaten and they all seemed like they had NOT been chewed at, at all, so we weren't worried.
-
So, we threw away the rest of the bags, even the one that didn't seem like it had been chewed at all...it did look soiled on the outside. :P
-
Hands were washed.
-
My mom realized that she shouldn't have left it outside, so that won't happen again.
-
I did bring over a box of Orville Redenbacher's SmartPop! Kettle Corn Popcorn (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00VO4KZ4C) mini bags...individual sized bags of microwave popcorn.
-
I bought them to sell for concessions at The Mystery Plays, and a few did sell.
-
Since I paid for them myself, I have no qualms about keeping them, since we're not going to have another show anytime soon.
-
New notes are up.
-
Up are new notes.
-
I've seen them.
-
I've read them.
-
I wrote them.
-
There is a birthday to be celebrated.
-
What?
-
I thought someone said something.
-
Is George stuffing his face with free tacos.
-
The free taco day - a day that will live in infamy.
-
Or is it a damn rabid rabbit hole?
