Well, you've read the notes, the notes were in their entirety, and now it is time for you to post until the entirety of the cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: OROTUND!
-
It is now 5:02 a.m. (EDT).
Yoicks!.
I am medicated once again for the start of a new day.
I am still a bit sleepy and "may" find myself back into bed. I would have gone already, but the bed was too warm for my comfort. That is an almost orotund thing to say given my love for a warm bed.
Dreams abounded, but this time I was something I have never had the slightest interest in becoming, nor have I been exposed in any real way to the prospect of being engaged in -- and that is asbestos removal.
Yes, you read it accurately: All my dreams were about me learning how to detect and supervise the removal of asbestos from usable buildings. Happily, it did not involve me learning any useful techniques on doing it....it was simply my character's occupation. I was, apparently, in character the whole night.
There were others in the dream...ones who drifted away on asbestos projects that may have been of interest to me, but I was left behind to deal with different projects. Later, others would reappear and we would work together. There wasn't anything remotely romantic (not at MY age), but there is always pleasure in working with kindred spirits.
I find it incredibly odd that I am having such lucid, odd dreams. But there they are.
-
I do fully understand the dreams are directly related to the drugs I am taking for the viral and sinus infections. I can happily report that my breathing is improving daily.
As for my left ear -- there is some progress, I think. When I am listening to TV or something audio on on the computer, I get indications in my left ear that what I hear clearly in my right ear seems to be echoing out my left ear in little bursts. If I had a tuner, I could likely get it right. So my head seems to be trying to auto-tune my left ear.

Today is Sunday in Johnston, SC.
Today is Zoom Chat day with the small gang that has been at it since May of 2020. Our lot are diverse, with two from Britain (Milton Keynes and London), two of us (sometimes three) from eastern time (Johnston and Indianapolis and sometimes Fredericksburg, VA), one from central time (Chicago), two from the west coast (L.A.), and one in Pakistan (Karachi).

I have finished a very tasty blueberry muffin, which helps me adjust to the meds, and am finishing a very nice, hot cup of coffee.
I am cogent, but a bit more sleep likely won't hurt anything.
My bed should be ready for me. I have a mattress warmer which I use year-round. My side is always at the lowest setting and is usually unnoticeable, although it helps me as my body temperature drops during the night.
I have the other side of the bed set a bit warmer so that I can throw a leg over in case I need a bit more warmth on it.
I do this because I enjoy sleeping in slightly cooler temps than I need during the day, so I lower the thermometer prior to bed time.
Lately, the meds seem to elevate my body temperature shortly after I take my first doses, so I am up...and up to no good, as you can read.
Laters....

Yes.

Good morning, friends.

When I opened my computer, the mouse was stuck in the upper left corner. After rebooting it three times, I got my Macbook, googled the info I needed, and replaced the cordless mouse with a corded one. So I lost a damned hour this morning and I am not happy about it.
-
I have much to do today including dealing with a floor coverecwith soggy towels. The damned maintenance company has not responded to my request for someone ro come in and tilt the AC toward the streets and my poor neighbor below me has a ceiling that's falling in because of the water. I am not happy in the leaqst.

Good morning, all.

Sleep isn't my friend on the one day I can sleep late.

Good morning, all.

Good morning , I have just finished my cup of coffee and must go blow dry my hair before church

This afternoon I’m back in the city to see the top of the act I saw on Thursday perform again .

In spite of a night with much noise from these horrible thunderstorms, I got pretty much all the sleep I probably deserved. But it wasn't my friend, either, and I could sure use another hour or two.
Two days in a row of abominable storms, and we're probably in for a third today, with no letup in this run of extreme humidity.
And of course this is the day I drive back to JFK to pick up the housemates from their week in the Arizona desert. I'll leave super early so I'm not rushed one whit. Not a whit. Not one single whit.

I dreamt I was having a long conversation with my former, former former boss, (who I liked very much and who taught me so much) about the ins and outs of buying real estate in Florida.

We’ve had no rain here, Chas. Hope the trend continues because I’ve no wish to traipse through puddles and raindrops today

Guess I’ll Wordle and then go dry my hair

I have shopped in a Whole Foods exactly once. Several years ago - or probably a decade or longer, I don't really remember - our town got its first ever Whole Foods. At some point I finally went in to have a look around, and they certainly do make it all look very appealing. But the prices, even on certain dry foods that can be found elsewhere, very obviously sported that famous Whole Foods markup. In the end, I believe I walked out with only two things. In the takeout line they had a fresh salsa that had looked really good, so, with hope in my heart, I took a small container of that home. And I bought one other thing -- was it chips? -- I honestly don't remember -- and they were BOTH disappointing. The salsa couldn't hold a candle to that found in any average Mexican restaurant, and whatever the other thing was likewise failed to float my boat. A decade or whatever later, I have never gone back.

These storms are weird. They've been relatively small "cells" scattered all over the place, so even though the northeast in general is getting it, if you're not in one of those spots, you don't. The one that passed over us last night at one in the morning was one of the loudest, most intense thunderstorms (with lightning to match) I have ever known.
-
Anyhoo, salsa is one of the trickiest things to buy. I try every one out there, always in hopes of finding those wonderful flavors you get in so many Mexican places, and they almost always disappoint. They go too far or not far enough in their mix, almost every time. I'm simply going to have to try coming up with my own blend at home and settle on whatever comes close, and just always have it around.

I did, on the spur of the moment yesterday, throw together a key lime pie which has chilled in the fridge overnight. They are SO delicious, and SO easy to prepare. I confess to cheating by using a store-bought pie crust, but I'll plan on making my own next time.

Hmm. I wonder if Facebook is having one of its li'l downtimes. I just posted a comment to something which vanished as soon as I hit 'enter', and I can't navigate to any other page than my own feed.
No big whoop, I'll wait and check later.

It's working again, but that post is nowhere, man. Gone with the wind. It's history, baby.

I've called our apartment management to once again request AC assistance. Then I crawled around the floor and picked up all the soaking towels. I draped them over the windowsill and radiator to dry. Then, I stuck the least wet towel under the AC and turned it on.

AC vibes for DR ELMORE.

DR singdaw M@7 opens on Thursday. The cast has had THREE days to review their lines...so I'm hoping to see some improvement tomorrow....but I fear it is what it is.

I have NEVER been into a Whole Foods store in all of my 73 years.

I may do some chicken strips today......but probably won't also make some mac & cheese......
Later in the week, though.

Finishing up a Chinatown version of Pride and Prejudice called Good Fortune. It’s been okay, but also somewhat sloppily written.

My older brother Mike and his wife Faith will be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary on October 13.
I'm going to buy Faith a nice new set of cookware and buy my brother a few new books since he loves to read......
AND I have a 20% off one item coupon at OLLIE'S that expires on Thursday, so I will be able to get an even NICER set of cookware....I'll probably go over there tomorrow.

Can’t resist that story.

Happy Sunday to one and all. The new Broadway Radio Show is a great conversation with award winning singer & cabaret star Jeff Harnar about his new album A Collective Cy, a wonderful collection of songs by Cy Coleman. Lots of great songs and some wonderful stories (make sure to check out the ones about Lauren Bacall and Dorothy Fields!)

Five hours ago, I got back into my bed, hoping for a few more restful hours of sleep like I did yesterday.
But...wonky dreams, they have returned.
Only two are worth repeating, but they were very varied.
The last one was the one that got me out of my bed. I dreamed I had asked Alexa what time it was. She said it was 3:34 p.m. I jumped up and told Alexa to stop playing the rain sounds I usually fall asleep to. When she did that, CD player began playing. Again I said stop, and lights began going on and off. I realized she had lost her mind and I was going to have to shut everything off manually. While I was doing that, I heard a squeaking noise coming from the next room...my den.
I opened my door to the den and I had been robbed. Cleaned out. Except...all my nice chairs and sofas had been replaced by wooden chairs and benches, with pillows neatly placed upon them. My bookshelves were empty of my favorite books. And, yes, they took my 55-inch tv, computers and stereo system, but they replaced them with side tables and cheap lamps, A plain rug filled the floor, and my nice pictures had been replaced on the walls with gaudy prints I would never in a million years buy for myself.
Strangest thing of all was that just before I awakened and realized it was yet another wonky dream I gasped, "Gosh! This room is so much bigger than I thought."
-
The other dream I have was a bit of a sweet one.
I was sitting on a sofa in my den, having coffee.
A voice behind me, my mom's, asked me if I had eaten anything with my meds.
She put her hand on the back on the sofa next to me, and I put my hand on hers and said "Yes."
She asked me if I knew what had happened to the funds.
?? Funds? What funds? "The funds that are paying for Trump's legal defenses."
While trying to understand why she would care, I heard a slight slump. Although I was still holding her hand, I turned and realized she must be on the floor.
I awakened and smiled because she reached out to me from beynod.
-
I see that it is STILL Sunday...and I am much relieved. Zoom chat in just over an hour.

Donald, do you have any biographical info on a singer named Nathaniel Hackmann? I found a YouTube video, vocals badly synched to audio, of a 2017 BBC Proms presentation of "Oklahoma", fully cast, conducted by John Wilson with original Broadway orchestrations. It appears to be someone's in-theater recording of a performance.
Hackmann is Curly and Sierrra Boggess is Laurie. Their voices are glorious. (I have a Civic Center recording of "Paint Your Wagon" on which Hackmann sings "They Call the Wind Maria.") Robbie Fairchild is Will Parker and he's truly wonderful in that role. I have heard Boggess in other BBC Proms events, and she has a glorious soprano. I have Googled for background info on Hackmann (training, shows, etc.) but have come up with very little.
Amazon will soon be shipping the Chandos recording of the BBC "Oklahoma". To my knowledge, the video isn't scheduled. But it's on YouTube.

I’ll take your recipe, if you’ll share. Please and thank you.
The variations found in recipes is ridiculous.
Here's what I'm happy with as it stands now:
9" graham cracker pie crust (buy it or make your own).
1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk.
2/3 cup key lime juice (Nellie & Joe's is very popular) -OR- 2/3 cup plain old regular lime juice -OR- a combo, it's all good. If you want it more tart, increase the quantity next time.
3 egg yolks.
I used a large whisk and elbow grease, but electric mixer is the easy way to go:
Separate and beat the egg yolks, then blend into the condensed milk. Last, blend in the lime juice.
Pour into the pie shell. Bake at 325 for 20 minutes, give or take. There'll still be some jiggle; it sets as it chills.
Allow to cool, then refrigerate for several hours.
Serve with whipped cream. (Or meringue, if you must.)
The 9" crust will actually take a little more filling. I just popped open the one can of milk this time, so it sits slightly lower than I'd like. You can use more of the milk and lime juice, but those 3 egg yolks will still be plenty. In fact, I'm going to try just 2 egg yolks next time. (The recipes call for 2 to 4, 3 being the average).
-
Thanks for that recipe, DR ChasSmith.

This one reminds me of the lemon pie recipe on cans of condensed milk. My favorite pie of all time. And the key lime substitute is just right.

Congrats on the improved breathing and hearing, Ron! And those are some pretty strange dreams!

DR Ron Pulliam, his name is Nathaniel (Nate) Hackmann. He's a friend. He was in the Encores! production and recording of Paint Your Wagon, singing They Call the wind Maria." John Wilson asked me about him when he was casting the Oklahoma! He was also Gabey in John's Proms production of On the Town. He's currently on Broadwy in Back to the Future, and he just recorded Curley and Billy Bigelow for John Wilson's complete recordings of Oklahoma! and Carousel.
-
Also, on John's BBC Proms broadcast, the Laurie is my friend Scarlett Strallen, who was in the Encores! production and recording of The New Yorkers.
-
I turned on the AC for a couple of hours, but there's been no word from the building management.

Thanks for the update on Hackmann, Larry.
Any idea of his training?

I finished Asteroid City. I would watch it again.

I continued to be grateful that 22 years ago we were not packing for our trip home on Flight 93.
Keith had returned on that flight the day before and I was no longer pouting he hadn't taken me with him. Instead I was preparing for my book group's yearly luncheon which I was hosting.
-
Thanks for the update on Hackman, Larry.
Any idea of his training?
He majored in Opera/Vocal performance at Central Michgan University. He's from Phoenix, AZ, and he's married. I think tey have a child.
-
Plane will be about an hour and a half late, thanks to the rainstorms earlier at JFK.
-
They're coming in from Phoenix. They were in the Tucson area all week, but their friends live in Queen Creek which I see is in the southeast part of Phoenix, and that's where they stayed last night.
I've instructed them to wave to DR Laura on takeoff. They were only there for the one day, so maybe next time they can say stick around and say hi.
-
This is the anniversary of the day that Mom and Dad set out for Ireland. Their flight to New York was delayed and they missed their flight. They were due to fly out early Sept. 11, but it was not meant to be. They spent the next seven days trapped at JFK.
-
What a shame they weren't simply trapped in Ireland.

Do you personally know other people who had a 911 near miss?
-
I've been reading an article about a plane that flew from Switzerland to Spain without any luggage due to a shortage of ground staff.
-
To make matters worse, they neglected to inform the passengers. People waited two hours for their luggage to come out before someone finally told them.
-
Some of the comments under the story are very funny.
-
I'm just surprised there wasn't any mention of people with airtags noticing their luggage wasn't on the plane.
-
My favorite comment and response:
I saw a ' Twilight Zone' once where the baggage arrived, but the passengers didn't.

That worked out well. It became difficult to reach people. Bryan found out about a couple of friends when someone thought to call their parents to confirm all was good.

Petite Maman is amazing, one of the best movies I’ve seen in years. And even though it’s about grief, it is not a depressing film.
-
Good night, friends.

'night

Watching some TCM tonight....and remembering I am not an Amy Irving fan.

I liked Crossing Delancy.
-
Watching an animated film on the Petite Maman disc called Ma Vie de Courgette/My Life as a Zucchini. It’s sweet and sad.

Also, on John's BBC Proms broadcast, the Laurie is my friend Scarlett Strallen, who was in the Encores! production and recording of The New Yorkers.
She was very good. Thanks for the info, Larry. John Wilso has always impressed me. He has done "Oklahoma" selections before with Julian Overnden, by Hackmann's voice blows Ovendens away.

I've paid more for less. ::)

Sadly...but not really. ;)

It's always amazing when you hear about these (extremely fortunate) near misses on 9/11.
Do you personally know other people who had a 911 near miss?
My brother was heading to the towers for a meeting but realized he needed something from his midtown office and stopped there first , while there he was further delayed by a phone call.
He told his assistant he was leaving and she said don’t , it’s just been hit by a plane.

My cousin was scheduled to fly out for a job interview . He received a call the night of 9/10 telling him they’d offered the job to someone else.
He was very disappointed.
He cancelled his flight on the plane that creased into the Pentagon.

There's a fragrance that's here to stay and they call it... Charley!
OMG I just sang that in my head…boy those commercials were insidious!

You can get it from Amazon for less than half that price

Disney is coming up with a 100-disc set of their films for a mere $1,500.
-
They can keep it.
-
I’ve started listening to the first novel that the show The Larkins is based on. It’s really a novella ( novella—my ASS). The spirit is the same, but the details are very different.
-
Let’s get on with it.

Good night, all.

After church I cleaned up and reset for the next service, then I drove to the deli and bought Vixdad an egg sandwich
-
Ran that home to him then drive back to church for a congregational meeting
-
About 1215 I left the meeting and headed home
-
Then I got ready and Vixdad drove me to the train station so I could take the LIRR into the city
-
I wanted to go see “The Guests” Henry Hey and Lucy Woodward perform again.
-
This time they were in a performance space in a bookstore on Broadway down in the West 20’s
-
I hadn’t eaten yet and arrived about two hours before the showtime
-
So I walked down to the neighborhood and looked for somewhere to eat
-
I found this restaurant called L’Addresse in Tin Pan Alley
-
When I went in I was it sure if they were open .
-
But the greeter assured me that they were serving, although they only served from their brunch menu on a Sunday
-
Which was fine with me
-
So I fought through the madding crowd and found my table
-
The view from my table

:o
-
The service was wonderful, though!
-
They can keep it.
I agree!!
-
Of course, that's only $15 a disc...so it might not be a bad deal overall.
-
The service was wonderful, though!
With crowds like that, I would hope so! ;)
-
They made me a decaf iced coffee ( which was not on the menu)
-
And brought me a complimentary bread plate, with house made bread, croissants, and strawberry preserves.
I assume the butter was bought.
-
The black bread was absolutely amazing, moist and had flavors I couldn’t identify but really enjoyed
-
Then my vegetarian eggs Benedict (with avocado instead of Canadian bacon) arrived
-
It was served on house made brioche…best I’ve ever eaten, soft, moist and slightly sweet, eggs were perfect, whites entirely cooked but yolks runny and nice big slices of avocado covered with just enough hollandaise .
-
I finished the meal with a crème brûlée
-
Perfection
-
When I asked for the check I mentioned to my server that the black bread was especially remarkable.
He told me it was baked in-house from a family recipe developed by the owners grandmother
-
And with my check I received this
-
Which I look forward to having as my breakfast tomorrow morning
-
Then I walked over to the bookstore and snagged a comfy seat in the front row on the side if the stage
-
The show was fun, ended around 6:40. I chatted with the performers a little and then walked back to Penn.
-
I arrived at 7:11 and saw my train was scheduled for 7:29.
So I hung out and popped into the train and got a nice seat on the short side if the car
-
Called Vixdad as to my ETA
-
And had a comfortable and uneventful ride home
-
And I was able to use my round trip ticket from Thursday’s train fiasco, so it didn’t go to waste.
-
Well I know we’re on page seven
-
BK’s favorite page
-
But I do not have the energy to go on
-
So I must to bed
-
Goodnight
-
Guten nacht
-
Buenos noches
-
Bonne nuit
-
Buona notte
-
Good bye
-
Sayonara, vixmom!
-
Sleep well, Vixmom! And thanks for the blow-by-blow account of your evening!

Gratuitous Post #200!! :D

I’ve never pinpointed precisely where I was when the first plane hit. I was on the F train coming in to the office on 40th and Lex from Park Slope. I had to transfer to the 4, 5, or 6 at Broadway-Lafayette. In those days the only way to make that transfer was to come above ground and cross a street and walk back down and use the metrocard again. I don’t know if in my minute above ground, it had already happened. I sort of recall that minute and I can convince myself there was a weird vibe in the air. But that may be just imagination, creating that feeling. Most likely I was underground in southern Manhattan at the time it happened.
-
What I do know is I continued on the train up to Grand Central and walked above ground and towards my office and as I headed in, I heard the distinct words “plane crash” from someone on the street.
-
I got on the elevator and when I went to step off on my floor, my friend and coworker was there and he said, “C’mon we’re going up to the 9th floor (reception) to see what’s going on.” And now I knew a plane had hit the tower and like most people, figured a small plane, a terrible accident. We got off on 9, and everyone was gathered around the TVs in reception. And the 2nd plane hit like just as we entered the room.
-
The bad dream unfolded from there.
-
And with that, let’s endeavor to move past this ghastly page 7.
-
I was living with my sister at the time, and I was woken up by my sister saying very loudly, "Oh, my god! Oh, my god!" over and over.
-
It was a very weird day, of course.
-
Everyone was talking about it at work, and I had a weight loss meeting that evening, and that's all we talked about, too. :-\
-
Fie on 7!!
-
PAGE EIGHT DANCE!! ;D
-
It was a very weird day, of course.
A weirdness which in many ways, has never gone away.
