Oh, no. Folk singer Roger Whittaker, best known for hits 'Durham Town' and 'The Last Farewell,' dies at 87 (https://www.usatoday.com/story/entertainment/celebrities/2023/09/18/roger-whittaker-folk-singer-dead/70895777007/)...but 87 is a good, long run.

What a serendipitous sequence of events that led to us getting a new Kritzer book, as indeed, yes I read and have the first three which provided such a cool window into the life of BK and his environs in LA. It takes me back to my first era of posting on this here site. A continuation is unexpected and exciting.
-
A happy and blessed birthday to Lord Larry Moore who I consider a warrior, a fighter, a survivor, a sweetheart. My buddy who’d invite me over to watch Hullaballoo DVDs or go out with me to see Darling of the Day in mufti. And who coined a phrase that lives in my heart, “She’s dumber than a bag of hair.”
-
Roger Whittaker, dang. Well I spoke of my dad and his Judy Collins records. He also had a couple Roger Whittaker collections in his evening after-dinner rotation. So Roger was a big indelible part of my youth. The other reason is the gorgeous tag that begins New World in the Morning was used as WGN Chicago TV’s station ID music for years.
-
Good morning, all!
-
Happy Birthday, DR elmore!
-
BK, congrats on the new book!
I look forward to reading it.
-
BK, thank you for the birthday greeting. I'm jumping straight to the TOD: this news about Kritzer World made my day since I consider the three Benjamin Kritzer books your magnum opus. I have enjoyed other books you've written, but the BK stories, which really should be published in one volume like David Copperfield, remain the best.

I‘ve used Venmo. Money keeps going out, never seems to come in.

You’re all in for a great treat. I got the joy and privilege of being a proofreader on Kritzer World. The dialogue crackles. The story is moving and relatable. And Benjamin is back where he belongs — with us.

Well my sisters have been cutting my hair for the past 10 years or so....and my mother did it for about 15 years before that.....I have not visited a barber shop since the 1990's.
Yesterday I got a card in the mail offering me a haircut at the local Great Clips for only $9.99.....so I went. Of course I also added a tip for nice young lady who took on the job.
Not sure why I am in a fog.....but voila....paid for haircut.....first since the last century!

I spent the past 2.5 hours dealing with the laundry. Sadly, all the towels I used to soak up the AC floods dide not come out spotted with schmutz, and I need to launder them again with a heavy dose of Clorox.

I did laundry on my birthday, as well, DR elmore3003, so you are in good company.

Nice adventure, DR Jrand73 - and from what I can see of it, with good results!

John Owen Edwards, who conducted the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company in all the Gilbert & Sullivan operas and coducted on London's West End, sent me a lovely birthday message:
John Owen Edwards
Hi Larry - I have been meaning to message you for a few days and your birthday has given me the kick up the arse to do it! So, firstly; a very happy birthday to you and I hope you have a gloriously indulgent day... secondly, since John Yap has been rejigging some of our recordings, I decided to listen to the ones we did - most of which I haven't heard since the day they came out. I was delighted to hear so much of your work again. Everything you did was always in perfect style and more than that, executed with wit and elegance. You also made the orchestral parts so interesting and fun to play. The orchestra always enjoyed them! So thank you so much for your great work - I am so pleased I was able to conduct a few examples, and may your next 77 years be even better than the last! With love from a very rainy Oxcfordshire, J. x

What a lovely message, Larry. And true, too.

I'd ordered food for today last night - it didn't arrive so I looked for the order and it was cancelled because the restaurant decided they didn't need to do orders today. Well, buh bye. Of course, I was charged immediately and while it's "pending" PayPal takes the money right away and the "pending" won't fall off for another couple of days. Just ordered fried catfish instead with a 50% off thing.

Of course I’ve read the Kritzer trilogy! Looking forward to the next one, too.

Yes, that's the LACC Theater building and enjoy looking at it while you can, since it will be demolished in the near future.

elmore, curious about the cat fishing and what happened. I follow those cases on YouTube.

elmore, curious about the cat fishing and what happened. I follow those cases on YouTube.
I got a friend request yesterday from someone who seemed legit, and we had a conversation on FB messenger about who we were, what we did for a living and our mutual friends. I'm always curious about why people send me friend requests. So, today, out of the blue. he sent me a message asking me to purchase some Apple Store items and something about bitcoin I did not understand. It put me on guard at once.
-
I’m pleased to hear that your new AC unit is in place.
You won’t be charged for it, will you?
No. It was in my original lease from 1980.

I wanted to schedule an appointment for the new covid vaccination for after to return. I can't schedule what they don't have yet. Maybe I could, except I want to confirm it is Pfizer before I book the appointment.
-
I am basically packed.
-
My little suitcase barely closes.
-
We have a shorter layover in Denver than originally planned and I don't want to risk taking my slightly larger carry-on that I prefer.
-
I'm not sure I'll post tomorrow morning as we need to leave here at 7:00am.
-
A nice neighbor is driving us to the airport.
-
We are very lucky to have a small group of neighbors here that that take each other to the airport and pick each other up.
-
As long as it isn't too early in the morning.
-
Keith and another neighbor will do 5:30am runs.
-
The other neighbor has gone at 4:30am, bless his heart.
-
'night
-
Travel vibes for DR JANE & Keith.
Thanks DR JANE yes I will probably return to Great Clips....close to my house and not outrageously priced.
-
Thanks DR JEANNE.....or even a psycho!
-
At home. Lazing for a little.
-
Onward!
-
Seven!
-
Sparkle, Seven. Sparkle!
-
I watered the plants. Several were looking sad, if not worse.
-
Glad to hear that DR JOHN G had a restful vacation and is home safely.
-
Four more performances and our season will come to an end.....of course we will have the stray meeting now and then and the usual contretemps - but nothing like 5 times a week!
-
DR ELMORE thanks for sharing the message you received!
-
I made it a third of the way through The Magic Mountain.
-
Don't know when I'll get back to it.
-
I did laundry on my birthday, as well, DR elmore3003, so you are in good company.
Please try to do it more often in the future, however.
-
Good night all.
-
We have landed in San Antonio. Taxiing.
Welcome home, John!
-
I do not care for page seven.
-
Back from seeing our final invited dress - I don't know who was invited but there sure weren't more than six people there. Our actress is still struggling with lines in the first half of the play - it was really a lot of fumfering tonight, so I've made a suggestion that may help. She says it's the after effects of having Covid, that her brain is foggy. She has the second half down fine.
-
Safe travels, Jane!
-
What was your suggestion, BK? Teleprompter?
-
Really? REALLY?
-
George never came back?
-
REALLY?
-
What will tonight's excuse be.
-
I wonder.
-
Stuffing his face with free tacos?
-
Fell asleep?
-
On the phone for hours?
-
Someone coerced him to go out to eat?
-
Down some damn rabbit hole?
-
Whatever it is, I'm against it.
-
And he WILL be held accountable.
-
Most unseemly.
-
MOST.
-
Is there gaslighting going on?
-
See?
-
New notes are up.
-
Up are new notes.
-
I've seen them.
-
I've read them.
-
I wrote them.
-
And George isn't even here to read them or add to the conversation.
