Well, you've read the notes, the notes were bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, and now it is time for you to post until the bright-eyed and bushy-tailed cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: PALMY!
-
Good morning, all!
-
Six years ago today, at 8:18a.m., I posted: Today I am going to make a trip down to this cat/kitten adoption and look around. I may return with an animal or I may not. Still, it's good to get out of the apartment, travel to a part of Manhattan I do ot know well, and check out the situation.
-
Around 2:00p.m. that same day six years ago, I wandered out of the K9Kastle trailer with a cat carrier containing a young cat, approximately 10 months old, named Annabelle. I would have never guessed that warm finish for September would be one of the best days of my life.
-
Twelve days later, our DR ChasSmith came to visit, and hesnapped this wonderful photo of my little girl.
-
Awwww, so sweet! Happy "Gotcha" Day to DC Annabelle and DR elmore3003!!!!
-
Good morning, friends.
-
Happy Fall to All!!
-
Today and tomorrow are work days to finish up "The Minstrel, the Jester, and I" for Monday's meeting.
-
DR vixmom, no flooded basement?

Today and tomorrow are work days to finish up "The Minstrel, the Jester, and I" for Monday's meeting.
Was this song in the original production and just left off the cast album? I know it's on the revival cast album.
-
DR elmore3003 didn't answer my question the other day, but after reading online reviews, I settled on this one:
-
Why do the French eat snails?
-
Because they don't like fast food.

It wasn't recorded on the OBC because the King, who is mute, mimes his sections of the song.

DR elmore3003 didn't answer my question the other day, but after reading online reviews, I settled on this one:
I missed your question! I'm so sorry. Was it about Hansel und Gretel? My preferences in German are the mono EMI with Schwarzkopf and stereo with Anna Moffo.
-
Thanks much, DR elmore3003!

I wonder why I don't have any CDs of this. Time to rectify that, methinks.

That still stands out as one of the best photo sessions!
-
That movie Unhinged sounds like total HELL. Thanks for the warning.
-
Scotland Road was well acted and certainly interesting. Last night was their opening, and I almost kind of wouldn't mind seeing it a second time later. Almost. Kind of. Maybe. It runs two more weekends.
As a Titanic thing, I wonder if TCB ever saw a production of it.
-
Today, a matinee of Guys and Dolls.
-
I am glad to hear vixdad is fine, except of course for the car.
That's pretty much what happened to me some 15 years ago on my way into LaGuardia for a flight to Dallas. A guy pulled out of the gas station, without looking, just east of the airport and damaged the right side of my car. There was no question he was at fault and his insurance company (State Farm!) settled promptly. That was one of the two times I've called the other person's insurance directly and gotten my settlement without involving my own insurance at all.
Anyhoo, it's still disrupting and I hope all proceeds well.
-
You know, I think it was State Farm the other time, too. That one was a rear-ender at a stop light.
-
Happy "Last Day of September 2023", everyone!
Can tomorrow really and truly be the Oneth of October?
-
I am freshly arisen from my slumber.
Slept very well again.
-
So...Saturday again. Hmmm.
What shall I do with today?
-
I guess I will start off by having coffee and something to munch upon. An English Muffin, I think.

San Antonio Opera is doing Hansel und Gretl next week. I see it Tuesday.

A Very Happy Gotcha Day!!
-
DR vixmom, no flooded basement?
So far no….the extremely expensive roof and gutters we put in last year seem to have alleviated the situation
-
Fingers crossed it continues to do so as the monsoons continue

I'm up, I'm up - not even four hours of sleep due to a horrible allergy attack just as I was ready for bed. Thankfully, I had one allergy pill left.
-
Must get more tonight when I get home from the play.
-
Re Hansel and Gretel - I have every iteration that's on CD and the Anna Moffo is it for me. Love it to pieces. Others have their pleasures, but for me none surpass that.
-
ChasSmith, if you do a little searching here, you'll find about two or three weeks' of posts about Hansel and Gretel, both CDs and videos.
-
Today I shall type at the computer and then watch some footballs.
36 more posts to the magic "8s"!!!

-
Here are my thoughts on the Anna Moffo. And if you search around this date you'll find all the others I listened to and watched.

:)
-
Thanks for the Hansel information, DR elmore3003 and BK.
-
Why isn't anyone ever bushy-eyed and bright-tailed?
-
I ask you.
-
On page three.
-
I remember the Hansel and Gretel conversations quite well (but ... three years ago???). I was only lamenting that I'd never picked up any of the CDs. I'll order the Moffo forthwith, and perhaps the Schwarzkopf. I do have the classic 1950s MET recording with Rise Stevens on LP. Has any of that series ever made it to CD, I wonder?
Would it be a worthwhile project to restore that stop-motion film? I've only looked at it once on that dismal DVD.
I'll eventually check out others, but my go-to DVD remains the MET telecast with Judith Blegen, Frederica von Stade, and Rosalind Elias.

Good morning.

DR Vixmom I'm sorry your December vacation request has been denied.

-
Good Morning!
Happy "Gotcha" day to DR Elmore and DC Annabelle!
-
Not much to happening today. I am going to see The Girl on the Train this eve. That should be neat. Other than that, tests to grade, laundry to do, etc...
-
I am doing laundry today, too. Yesterday they cut the water to our building for a time, and when they turned it back on the toilet valve leaked and soaked the area rug in there.
-
:)

Violists gestate much more quickly, but they're almost always under-developed.

I prefer the viola over the violin any day!

Groan. Good luck it is an easy fix.

That Met recording was conducted by Max Rudolf, whom I adored. I think I have it on mp3 files.

It isn't in my current iTunes so it's on one of several hard drives that I cannot access since I need cable adaptors for the new iMac.

I have never been one of the cool kids. And I hopefully have never flashed anyone. At least in public.

I could not figure out why anyone would object to Charlotte's Web.
-
I am shaking my head at the reason.
"Charlotte's Web, that children's story of friendship, respect and devotion, published in 1952 and a favorite of waves of generations of children since then, was banned in 2006 in a school district – on religious grounds. Some parents felt that only humans should have the ability to speak."

My DH was running errands today, so I took the opportunity to tidy up my half of the bedroom.

Another bag of trash. My trash can is already filled for the week. If I stuff it too full, things get stuck at the bottom and half of the can doesn't empty.
-
Happy Gotcha day to Annabelle and Elmore.
-
Congrats to DR JOHN G on his new millstone.
-
I am enjoying the first Saturday of the off season by basically doing NOTHING.
-
The neighbor across the street put out a nice white folding table - about six feet long....FREE.
So I wandered over and brought it to my house and put it in the carport.
The only problem is that it does NOT fold in the middle, so I am hoping it will fit into the PT Cruiser so that I can take it to the theeder sometime.
-
They are predicting an El Nino winter for Indiana....higher than normal temperatures and lower than normal precipitation.....
-
I'll take that.

Saturday evening greetings! We thought we were just going to do a quick drive-by of our future home, but ended up spending about half an hour there. We had to admire the new retaining wall on the left side of the driveway and the in-progress repaying of the driveway and front sidewalk. Then we peeked in the front windows and discovered the interior painting well underway.
As we started around to the back our neighbor pulled into her driveway and came over to visit. Her name is Norma and she’s 92. Once out back, we found the gate had been left open allowing access to the patio and back windows (more peeking).
There’s still a lot to be done, but we have movers tentatively scheduled for 6 weeks from Monday. That just happens to be Richard’s birthday.

Your new place sounds exciting. We have moved a few times on or around Keith's birthday. At least this move doesn't require driving for a day or two to arrive at your new home.

I suppose I have been involved with road anger.
-
Fortunately I have not been involved in road rage.
-
There was the time driving from Massachusetts's to visit friends in New Jersey when I had a driver on my tail who eventually, crossed the double line and speed around me.
-
I guess he didn't appreciate my going the speed limit.
-
Shortly after the incident, to my surprise, a policeman pulled me over.
-
He wanted to know if I was ok as the driver, unbeknownst to me as I had my eyes on the road, had flipped me off.
-
Oh, the policeman said he gave the other driver a ticket.
-
While the policeman was very nice, I would have preferred to continue on my way without the interruption ;D
-
That reminds me of the idiot that I kept from racing past me on the winding mountain road when it was too dangerous. I finally let him pass on a straight stretch.
-
Fortunately he didn't rage at me.
-
I was with a friend and we both yelled with joy when we passed him getting a ticket ;D

Today, at mid-day, my mother-in-law was transferred by ambulance from the hospital to home hospice care at the home of one of her sons.
-
Tonight, at around 7:00PM, she died.
-
Her passing was peaceful. All of the immediate family were there. The hospice workers were superb and kept her comfortable. She had been heavily sedated for the trip, and never really regained consciousness. Which was a blessing, as she had been in extreme pain for the past week.
-
All in all, a positive - although sad - experience. She died one week shy of her 91st birthday.
-
And she is no longer suffering. If one has to go, I think it better for it to go quickly.
-
Good night, friends. Tell those in your life that you care about that you love them.
-
My sympathies, Singdaw. Peace be with her whole family.

Good night, all.

I'm sorry for your loss, Singdaw. Hugs to your family.

Today's Twin Cities marathon was suddenly cancelled at the last moment because it's going to be near 90 and they felt it just wasn't going to be safe for the runners.
-
So, all my training for naught. 8)
-
Thank you all for the condolences.

This marker delineates the point where Iowa intersects with South Dakota and Minnesota. It used to be located in the middle of the road, but cars kept hitting it.
-
Good morning, all.

I am incensed by the man with the emails to MR BK.

When I was a wee tyke - my grandparents would give us all of their old Readers Digest magazines.
I liked some of the articles but especially the little anecdotes.
DR JANE's story about the birthday card reminded me of this one:
-
A woman realized on December 16, that she had neither purchased nor mailed any Christmas cards.
She rushed to the store and bought three packages of the only cards they had left.
She hurriedly signed them, addressed the envelopes, and rushed them to the post office.
She was feeling very good about her accomplishment until she picked up the one card left and read it:
This little card is just to say -
[Inside]:
A gift you'll love is on the way!

Happy October! On the new Broadway Radio Show I am joined by Drew Larimore and J. Oconer Navarro to chat about their new musical The New Peggy, which just released a studio cast recording. It's a funny, dark, crazy show about a secretary whose life takes a sudden turn after an unexpected phone call.

Good morning, all ... on whichever day we're in! :)

That exchange with the PayPal customer is outrageous.
Words fail me, actually. I can't quite put into words what that would do to me. I think BK kept his cool longer than I could have.
-
I'm going to go ahead and post here because I'll be busy with stuff through the day.
The Guys and Dolls matinee yesterday was stupendous -- in spite of the fact that Sky's head mic refused to work from the get go. It took just a moment for a stage person to hand him a hand mic - which he carried throughout the show and it not only worked flawlessly, he was an absolute Master(son) at it. Bravo, sir.
It was also stupendous in spite of the fact that on the closing chords of "If I Were a Bell", the fire alarm went off and we had to evacuate. No idea what triggered it, but it was the most efficient such thing I've experienced. The Bridgeport FD was there within a few minutes and their look-through and all-clear was accomplished in another five, to grateful cheering by everyone as they left. I just thank GAWD the week's endless rain had finally ended a couple of hours before.

Hmmm. I wonder what that gray line is in the above post. Or does anyone else see it? It's not there when I go in to edit, so the hell with it. Let it stand. Or not stand, as the case may be...
-
Condolences to DR singdaw and the DH and family.

And promptly forgot to change the day because Doug called and we had an hour-long conversation and then I never remembered to change the day. Such are the ways of seventy-five.
