Well, you've read the notes, the notes were back in the saddle, and now it is time for you to post until the back in the saddle again cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: ELOQUENCE!
-
Good morning, all!
-
I am waiting on an Amazon Fresh delivery. I'm next in line so it will be soon.
-
I don't have a thing to report.
-
;)
-
Good morning, all.
-
;D
-
Good morning, friends.
-
Went to bed at 8:30pm; couldn't fall asleep until around 1:00am.
-
Meh.
-
I've got a golden ticket.
-
Wordle and Phoodle 3. I had never heard the Phoodle word before.
-
I need to move. But I don’t want to.
-
Good morning, all.
-
This evening I have to call to find out if I'm supposed to show up for jury duty tomorrow.
Last time, seven years ago, the case was dismissed and we didn't have to show up and that was that. The time before that, I sat there through the morning and afternoon, reading, till the judge came out and thanked us for our patience and said that one was dismissed. So, we shall see what we shall see.
-
Our Xfinity connection came back up yesterday afternoon but I was too wiped out to do much of anything, including sitting in front of a computer and logging in. It was my day after the Covid shot, and this one resulted in the same 24-hour fatigue that the previous ones had. Good thing I know how to schedule those things.
-
Today I need to do my share of some housecleaning and Halloween decorating. Kristi has a school friend in town for the weekend and we want to be in full swing by then.
-
Sadly, we are looking at YET ANOTHER SUCKY WEEKEND WEATHER FORECAST.
We've had this beautiful warm fall weather since Sunday, but come Friday it'll be time for our weekly cool-down. Saturday's supposed to be all rain AGAIN and Sunday takes a dive in temperature so I think we're expecting the first of the frost warnings.
None of the seasonal changes are as gradual or smooth as they should be. It's just too up and down these days, and at this time of year that stands to harm what is "normally" one of the country's most beautiful regions in the fall.
-
I hated grilled cheese as a kid because of the horrible taste of American cheese food and store-bought white bread. Still hate that and dislike cheeseburgers that use fake cheese.
-
I like to make grilled cheese with a very good bread (it can be any kind but rye, which doesn’t toast well) and several types of cheese, including Swiss, cheddar, you name it.
-
You can add bacon, brisket, the protein of your choice. But don’t overfill it. The cheese should still be the star of the show.
-
I also like slices of tomato to give it some acidity.
-
After years of making lame grilled cheese sandwiches, I did a little research. Discovered that if you spread mayo on the outside and butter on the inside of the bread, it will pan-fry the way you want it.
-
It really works.
-
I would try it later, except I have no bread in the house.
-
I guess I am doing a monologue.
-
Hello, 0 guests!
-
Can it get any cheesier?

At 6:15 Amazon Fresh sent me an email that I was the next stop. 50 minutes later it showed up. They're getting as bad as Access-a-Ride.
-
The cheese should still be the star of the show.
The Cheese Stands Alone.
-
:D Oh, yes, JohnG, it can get a lot cheesier!!

I slept very well.
I dreamed.
And I remember at least the last one: My folks had bought a house in a city. It was one of those streets with adjoining houses and stoops. It looked really nice from the outside, and inside was very nice as well.
I explored while they were out of the house and found something rather strange...a hallway that ended with an ornate wall. It seemed the hall was meant to lead somewhere, but it simply stopped.
I touched some of the relief on the wall...very beautiful. And one thing I touched made the wall open up. And behind that wall was the rest of the hallway...and beautifully appointed rooms. A library, another bedroom, a vast main room and windows and light. I was stunned.
It was not the first time I had dreamed such a dream. The house was different, but I have had several dreams in my life where I found "hidden" rooms.

My favorite grilled sandwich is a Reuben.
The best I ever had was the first one I ever had. It was in a jernt called The Rathskeller in Asheville NC when I was in college.
The sandwich was served with a side of German potato salad (heavenly) and a slice of dill pickle. I have never had a better German potato salad than that one, which was served warm. The next best Reuben I had was in a place on 14th Street in Oakland CA. Cannot recall the name, but it was a "deli" (part of th name, too) and its major function was catering, but it had tables for eat-in guests. Great sandwiches of all kinds, including pastramis.
I love a hot pastrami. And hamburgers, of course.
Grilled cheese is my favorite comfort food. Add some tomato soup and I'm a happy camper.
-
I agree with DR John G.'s grilled cheeses, except that I don't hate American cheese. But I no longer make a grilled cheese with just that. Too cloying. My grilled cheese ingredients are Swiss, cheddar, and I include one slice of American for its melty factor.
My white bread of choice these days is Pepperidge Farm's "sourdough", which I don't buy for any perceived similarity to real sourdough, but because it's a national brand white bread that stands up nicely to sandwich making of many kinds, including grilling, and has the firm/squish factor I love in a decent white bread.
-
I love my grilled cheeses with sharp cheddar. For a nice change, a Jarlsberg fits the bill.
-
The cheese should still be the star of the show.
The Cheese Stands Alone.
Must be the limburger.
-
Years ago, Denny's had one called a "Mega Melt" or something like that, that included roast beef and I forget what else, but it was mouth-filling and thoroughly delicious and satisfying.
Agree that a grilled cheese sandwich, the cheese is a star. But overall, I don't believe I've ever met a grilled sandwich I didn't like.
I must try the mayo method next time I make one, which will probably be in the next couple of days because I have the supplies on hand.

Good morning - frantic chores at home this morning in preparation of the chaos that will be tomorrow. This afternoon, more parent-teacher conferences and tonight another vocal rehearsal for White Christmas - sometimes I miss the time when we stayed home and did nothing! However, I'm always grateful for the opportunity to do things with people now!
-
Good morning.
-
With only three hours of sleep I am having trouble keeping my eyes open.
-
More because they burn then because I am sleepy.
-
Went to bed at 8:30pm; couldn't fall asleep until around 1:00am.
8:30 :o
-
DR Singdaw, I fell asleep earlier than you did, but then didn't stay asleep for long.

Meh.
Yup.

Wordle and Phoodle 3. I had never heard the Phoodle word before.

Wednesday afternoon greetings! Mary Linda is working in her company’s Cincinnati office today, tomorrow, and Friday and staying with us. Charlotte came along and we get to spend 3 days with her. Color me happy.

They packed very light so we can fill up the minivan with at least part of the pile of stuff we’ve set aside for them to take home.
-
DR Singdaw, please accept my belated condolences for the loss of your mother-in-law.
-
It's warm! And humid!
We're up to 81, and the humidity is supposedly around 62%.
Sunny beaches! (If you catch my drift.)
-
Up to 81?
-
We’re 91, with a high of 94 later.
-
Tomorrow it’s supposed to be a blustery 83.

This morning we brought Vixdads car to the collision shop.

My mom has done that, and it's not bad, but I just like the taste of butter so much more.

I love a tuna melt. We go to a diner in Sharonville (Cincinnati ‘burb) where that’s my standing order.

Did you also have a notification explaining the alert on your phone?

It was loud.
At 11:40, while we were in the car, Keith's alarm went off again. It was very loud.
-
Keith said he received the 11:20 alarm while we were at the gym.
-
Since it was in his pocket the sound was somewhat muffled.
-
It was loud.
Yes. It was.

I do not think I would care for mayo on a grilled cheese sandwich.
It somehow makes the outside crispy. Doesn’t taste of mayo.

Keith's accompanying text message was in Spanish ::)

Lazy post 113!

At 11:40, while I was on the treadmill with my phone in my pocket, I did not hear the alarm and doubt I received one.

I did not receive a message in either English or Spanish.

Yes. It was.
Why I expected to hear it, IF the alert didn't go through my hearing aids.

I don't mind mayo in a grilled cheese, just as long as the outside of the bread has the delish flavor of real butter. 😋

Today I received a shipment of a nighttime drink powder that is supposed to help with sleep. In the bargain was an insulated thermos mug and a rechargeable frother.
I have never used a frother.
In the little instruction leaflet, point one:
1, To protect against risk of electrical shock, do not put the device in water or other liquid.
-
Now, maybe I'm just delusional, but isn't the POINT of a frother to froth LIQUID?
-
Am I missing something?

One surprise when I went to get my vaccines last week: they have retired the COVIC vaccine card. Since the U.S. Government is no longer distributing the vaccines, the CDC is no longer printing new cards. The pharmacy did, however, give me a printout from the state system showing a record of all my previous shots.
-
One more.
-
SIX!
-
In other breaking news, an outfit calls "Boystown" has sent me a package enticing me to give them money. The package includes a 3-pack of pens/markers and two sets of cute socks.
These socks are tiny. i might be able to fit 2 or 3 toes in them.
Which is appropriate, I guess, for "Boystown."
-
However, it does beg the question:
Wouldn't "Boystown" be better served by KEEPING and USING these teeny tiny socks themselves?
-
I guess their cuteness factor is supposed to entice me to open my wallet.

Keith has done Wordle in two today.
-
I just read if tv's are on they should also have had an emergency alert. Keith looked up at the row of tv's at the gym this morning and didn't see a single alert.
-
"Customers whose phones are set to the Spanish language will get the message in Spanish."
I had Keith double check and his phone is set to English.

The next Tony Awards will be broadcast on Sun 6/16/2024 from Lincoln Center.

So DR Jrand72, get your dress ready.

Comments from people who did not receive the emergency test:
-
“I didn’t get the emergency alert does that mean I’m safe from the zombie apocalypse,”
-
“WHY DIDNT I GET THE EMERGENCY ALERT.......... oh I am so dead when the apocalypse comes.”
-
I do have notifications turned off, however, I thought the test would override that.

I have always thought so. They're not my "style", anyway. In a week or two, you will get another letter and on the outside will be written: "Didn't you get your free gifts?"
Only, they don't want you to think of them as "free".
I get dreamcatchers and dish towels from a Native American organization. How they got my name is beyond me.

I couldn’t drop $30 on it, but I may return. It has at least one Happiest Millionaire track on it.

The Belgian Pomme Frites place used to be my go-to place in the East Village. For years. Then someone at a building next door rigged up a gas line illegally and blew up the entire corner it was on, killing a couple people and destroying homes and businesses.
Oh, my goodness! :o

I was in the middle of nowhere today and found this LP for sale. Some sort of promo piece signed perhaps by one or both Shermans. Maybe to benefit “Theater 40.” It was still in shrink. Any idea what that’s about? No record label.

That's so cool!
-
Maybe Kritzerland can release it on CD!
-
Some of it was stuff lifted right from movie soundtracks like Dick Van Dyke singing Chim Chim Cheree, so I don’t think it was a legal LP by any stretch.
-
Privately done by them. Theater 40's still around. A lot of Group Rep people also work there.

Very fun rehearsal tonight. Got another ten pages done and the hard part of another number.
-
In the not fun department, we lost Sharon McNight - she's not feeling well, has mold in her house that's causing her issues, but I know she's not been happy at rehearsals, mostly to do with the fact that the music the actors have doesn't match the lyrics in the script frequently. Everyone deals with it and we always go with the script, which matches the CD. And her unhappiness brings with it negativity and frankly no one needs that. It's a shame because I was already giving her great comic stuff and she would have been terrific. But she was also worried about learning everything.
-
I already have an ask out but I don't think she'll say yes. If not, then Doug has two good folks he can ask.

Nice. Gonna put on the title song now. It’s my late-night jam.
-
Such are the ways of things in 99-seat membership companies. I can certainly say it didn't make me happy to be put in this position. And if this were a paid production I don't think things would have gone this way, frankly.
-
It's interesting to be approaching thirty pages and the actual plot has not kicked in.

Ugh. I hate when people can’t just roll with the punches. Sounds like she only had one foot in from the get-go.
-
I know someone who’d be great but she’s on the wrong coast.

Oh, no. That's too bad, especially about the mold in the house. :P

Gratuitous Post #250!! :D

So, my sister's boyfriend (named Larry, but not HHW's Larry ;) ), forwarded to me (and others, I'm sure) someone's Facebook post about something that horribly affected their cat.
-
Since I can't link that FB post here, I'm going to post it, a paragraph at a time...it's quite descriptive, but I'm not going to edit it because it probably needs to be known about. :-\

CAUTION CAT OWNERS

I wanted to share the horrors we went through for the past 3 weeks.
-
We first noticed drainage coming out of her right nostril. It was mostly clear in nature and she was sneezing quite a bit. We took her to our vet and they thought she had an upper respiratory infection. We gave her antibiotics and went on our way.
-
One week later, the drainage had increased and turned bloody and her appetite was starting to decrease. We called the vet again and they had us come in an pick up another antibiotic/immune boost to add to her food.
-
That Sunday, she stopped eating, stopped drinking, was isolating herself and I noticed she wasn’t going to the bathroom as much.
-
At this point, nothing was helping. She was dying and we knew it. All day Friday I cried and kept thinking about what we had done differently around the house and that’s when it hit me.
-
About a month ago Adam found these really good smelling plug in fragrance wall diffusers. I immediately unplugged them, opened windows and turned on fans. By Friday evening Mit Meow was able to walk to us. Saturday morning she woke me up at 4:45 am meowing and hungry. Her nasal drainage had stopped, she was eating, her balance was improving and she wanted attention.
-
After further investigation we learned that several of these diffusers are toxic to animals and that they have more severe reactions to cats because they are at nose level to them.
-
That was the entire post. There was a picture, but I'm not going to post that because it was quite graphic.
-
There were some comments. One was:
Thanks for posting but What type of plug in was it please?
And the person who posted it wrote:
I did not write the article, so therefore I do not know what kind of plug in, but I would suggest not using any of them.
-
And then another person commented:
Surprised the vet didn’t ask if there were plug in air fresheners… I’ve heard this reaction multiple times and assumed a vet would too…
-
Another comment:
It's not the diffusers it's what you put in them. A lot of essential oils are extremely harmful to cats and dogs.
-
And the last comment that I'll post:
ALL diffusers are toxic to animals and people. The scents are solid particles that stay in your lungs when you exhale. The same for scented cleaning products, detergents, dryer sheets, etc.

Very scary!! :o
