Well, you've read the notes, the notes were topsy-turvy, and now it is time for you to post until the topsy-turvy cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: CADENZA!
-
Good morning, friends.
-
He was how many sheets to the wind?
-
A Very Happy Birthday to (former?/occasional?) DR Jed!
-
Good morning, all!
-
I slept rather well. Stella never showed up last night, and Annabelle decided to sleep in the cat tree until 4:00 or so when she returned to her pillow, which Thatch and Stella call the "Princess Pillow." Thatch followed shortly thereafter to cuddle with me and get warm in the blankets.
-
I have a few small bills to pay today, and then I will return to my composition. I'm having fun writing, although my favorite writing pens seem to have been discontinued by Paper Mate abd that really pisses me off.
-
DR Jeanne, thanks for the Closy's recommendation. It's amazing.
-
Notes topsied. Turvey’d.
-
Who didn’t love Cozy Cole’s “Topsy II”?
-
Good morning, all.
-
Not sure why Topsy II was a bigger hit than Topsy I, but these things happen.
-
Better night of sleep than I thought. But it was too hot.
-
Got Covid booster at Costco yesterday so I crashed last night, waking too early this morning. Hello John G!
-
Too hot yes, because the heat kicked on because it’s 39 degrees here.
-
But it was too hot.
One might almost say too darn hot.
-
Almost.
-
Good morning, all.
-
An okay sleep, a weird dream or two, and awake way too early. What else is new?
-
It’s 55 now and going up to 77. Today, tomorrow, and Saturday.
Let us not talk of Sunday.
-
A mass shooting in Maine. Horrible.
-
And a Speaker of the House that Matt Gaetz has nicknamed "MAGA Mike Johnson". The horrors are unending.
-
Gaetz also proclaimed that "MAGA is ascendant".
We shall see.
-
It’s 55 now and going up to 77. Today, tomorrow, and Saturday.
Let us not talk of Sunday.
It's 59 in Johnston SC with a high expected of 78.
Sunday is too many days away to contemplate.
-
Slept brilliantly, thanks.
Dreamed lucidly and peacefully.
-
It is now "coffee time".
YAY!
-
But first: TOD
Let's just say that Trump would not exist, nor would any of the so-called MAGA crowd.
-
Mike Barnacle and Chris Matthews discussed Johnson on "Morning Joe" a few minutes ago. The view was more positive than I thought it might be.
Matthews thinks Johnson -- despite his MAGA association and having been a "voice" to overturn the 2020 vote count -- could do well and keep the MAGA element in the House happy.
Meh!
-
All right. I'll start a new page.

From British Gramophone:
-
I am so tired of a minuscule extremist group destroying this country.
I would go back to 2000…abolish the electoral college and have straight majority vote for President. Also abolish the congressional districts and have a statewide vote for congressman. The ones ( however many each state is entitled to) with the most votes go to DC an d represent the whole state.
-
I can’t even think about all of that right now. Too depressing.
-
A question:
I wanted to see how I’d described something way back in one of my earlier posts here (like, early 2012), and was surprised to find that the index stops in September 2012. I guess I’ve never looked back that far before, but I thought the index of postings went back quite a bit farther. Were the earlier years on different software?
-
Looks like the column archives of BK’s notes go all the way back to the very beginning in 2001. I thought the discussion pages might, too.
EDIT: I don’t need to do that search. Just wondered.
-
About an inch of rain (0.91 to be exact) fell this morning.
-
I have some happy plants.
-
TOD:
I can add nothing to what has already been posted......I wish......
-
Watching the press conference from Maine. Terrible.....shooter still at large.
-
DR JEANNE you don't have to do anything to become a member of the DO NOTHING CLUB.
You're already in. I'll not send you all the details someday.
-
What did Topsy do at the end of the play "Uncle Tom's Cabin"?
-
She took off her makeup and went back to the hotel.
-
But first: TOD
Let's just say that Trump would not exist, nor would any of the so-called MAGA crowd.
~~~SUPER DITTO!!~~~
-
The early microwaves were six feet tall and weighed 750 lbs. So that photo is a bit misleading.
-
I wonder if this was posted here before. I do remember hearing about his plans to do it, and it apparently happened about a year ago. Tom Lehrer has released all of his songs and lyrics into the public domain.
https://tomlehrersongs.com/?fbclid=IwAR2tRo4-ioD_K-VNb-q9cmktXiUzTgmIdrqLo2YoGYIPZJGJrNzuVJgRtvM
So if anyone grew up listening to these and wants to have them, here you go.
Meh!
As a court show watcher, it's been my observation that as soon as a defendant proclaims himself/herself a decent Christian, they're guilty as hell and neither decent nor Christian. The new Speaker is playing the same game.
-
Thanks for posting that review clip, DR Ron Pulliam. Either I missed it, or I haven't received that issue yet. There seems to be a lag.
-
TOD: I'd like to make kindness and civility fashionable again. I know; a lost cause.
-
Thanks for the reminder about Tom Lehrer, DR ChasSmith.
I just spent an hour and a half "clearing brush".
(Note: not a euphemism.)
So actually, about 50 minutes was spent pulling brambles and stuff, cutting a few things with the snippers, that kind of thing. Guess what the remaining 40 minutes was spent on.
I'd better just tell you. It was spent pulling tiny burrs off my work gloves, my shirt, my jeans, my shoelaces, my cap, and some skin just for good measure. Nothing painful, though I definitely wouldn't want to fall into a patch of whatever this is. As for what it is, I'll have to do some googling or asking around. It seems to be a kind of weedy growth that's new to my property, and I certainly wasn't expecting it. I'm used to forgetting myself and walking through some weeds and having to pick burrs off my shoes, but these are tiny little things that just take forever to pull off.
-
I'm up, I'm up - a little over eight hours of sleep. Would have slept another hour but, you know, telephonic calls.
Thanks for the link.
I was wondering if he was going to share his actual piano arrangements from when he recorded these, as opposed to sheet music versions or those from the "Tomfoolery" book. Not so. BUT...it also doesn't much matter because many of the songs are very simple in their accompaniment so they are indeed pretty faithful to what he played. And I transcribed the extended "Vatican Rag" piano part decades ago and could probably still play it right now. If I had a mind to. Which I don't. :)
"New Math" has an interesting note. He says it would have taken so many pages to actually write out the 2/4 patter rhythm he plays through much of it that he didn't bother to try including that. He's got the chorus and all the lyrics and spoken parts there.
DR ChasSmith - there are many apps that allow you to take a photo of a plant and it will tell you what it is. The one I have works very well.
-
The apps don't, however, do the yard work for you. Alas.
It is. My copy arrived about a week ago.
I’m tired.
Just saying.
DR ChasSmith - there are many apps that allow you to take a photo of a plant and it will tell you what it is. The one I have works very well.
I should try that. Might be hard to get a decent photo. I'm just now coming across these (they weren't here in past years), and they're like a dried/desiccated thing with no color, kind of gray, as though it's something that may have had leaves - or maybe not - but it's dried up and gone now. My eyes are getting more attuned to them, though. I'll see more, and will try to photograph.
It's something like this: https://askanaturalist.com/what-is-this-burr-sticking-to-my-shirt/
JRand thanks for the info about that AI-testing gig. Reviews from participants are mixed. Let me know how your sisters do!
Watched the first half hour of Merrily/Kennedy Center. Wish I could watch the rest.
-
DR RODZINSKI for what it's worth my two sisters love doing the work and taking the pay.
They have no complaints about the company. And it is interesting work.
And the extra money comes in handy.
-
What is this Page Three?
MR BK will be very unhappy with us.
-
My lunch with cousin Carol was most excellent.
I had a Western Omelet with fruit, an English muffin, and tea.
I brought the fruit home to eat tomorrow.
Our other cousins were shredded.
-
It is 73 degrees and most exellent weather.
-
From Singdaw:
I hope there's no hassle over this, DR Jane. And sorry that there is a need to cancel.
Thank you. Mostly it is a loss of money, but not a terrible amount which would be lost if we cancelled after tomorrow.
-
We really had thought that with the situation there the deadline to drop out would have been extended. I suppose if they can still run the trips, elemenation the portion in Israel, they weren't about to offer an extention.
-
Most of all I was looking forward to traveling with our good friends.
-
When addressing envelopes I usually go with family vs adding an s.
-
From DR Jeanne:
I generally try to avoid war zones or anywhere that might soon become one.
;D
-
Too hot yes, because the heat kicked on because it’s 39 degrees here.
Too cold-lol.
-
A VERY BIG HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO JED!
The flag at the enterance to our complex is flying half-mast :(
Great photos. Thanks for sharing DR VIXMOM.
Page fOUR....this will not do.
I just thought I would post it before MR BK does.
I got my prescription sunglasses today, but my second pair of glasses had the wrong prescription.....the vigilant person noticed it and will be sending them back for the correct prescription.
I said that perhaps it was somebody's first day at the eyeglass factory.
-
my cousin Carol and I had a waitress for lunch at the Blueberry Hill Pancake House.....and it was her first day.
We offered her great encouragement and she gave us great service. I left her a $6 tip on a $25 bill.....so I hope she keeps her job and attitude!
It also helps when someone lets you know it is their first day.
-
It sure looks like you are having a good time, DR vixmom.
-
We cancel, and I saw on facebook that a travel agent I know has just arrived in Cairo to travel with a group trip she organized.
-
I'm plum out of things to say.
-
This plum is too ripe!
-
I guess when you have already paid for the trip you don't cancel.
-
I do hope that we cancelled unnecessarily. I really do not want things escalating in the area.
Just listened to some Borodin. Very nice. I should look for a recording of Prince Igor. I loved the Met’s production.
Here’s a lovely clip of songs from an early concept album. An EP by Elliot Lawrence and his orchestra of melancholy songs from university life.
Is it a cocktail, this feeling of joy?
Or is what I feel, the real McCoy?
I had (still have) my parents’ copy of this that came in a set of 4 45 rpm singles.
Moonlight in the Campus is such a lovely song. Not sure who the vocalist is.
Is it Granada I see or only Asbury Park?
Will it be Bach that I hear?
I think the best part of the film “At Long Last Love” is that title number, where each of the principles sings a section.
Since today's topic is "Topsy-Turvy," the first thing that came to mind was the song "Topsy Turvy" (no hyphen) from Disney's The Hunchback of Notre-Dame, so here it is!
