Well, you've read the notes, the notes had musical notes by Mahler and Schubert and Schreker, and now it is time for you to post until the noted cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: LARGESS!
-
Topic of the Day: not a fan of Philly cheesesteak sandwiches. Red Wagon (https://www.redwagontumwater.com/), a local burger joint that has some of the best burgers in town, has a really good Chicken cheesesteak sandwich. It's quite delish.

~~~Continued Vibes for Modern Major Miracles for BK!!~~~
-
I fell asleep before 11 pm and woke up at 5 am
-
Efforts to return to sleep being unsuccessful I have caught up instead
-
I am still tired though so I will try again to will.myself into unconsciousness
-
I have never eaten a Philly cheese sandwich
-
I have not even tasted one
-
Not even in Philadelphia
-
Vixdad loves them
-
Although I do enjoy a hot rare roast beef with melted Muenster on a toasted hero
-
Which I suppose is similar
-
But , IMHO as the kids used to say, much better
-
I don't like the idea of well done beef covered in onions
-
Speaking of covered in onions
-
The other day Vixdad and I went to the IHOP and I saw a special Thanksgiving sandwich advertised
-
It looked wonderful, turkey, stuffing, cheese, abd what I presumed to be cranberry sauce on grilled sourdough bread
-
I only looked at the photo on the special display and failed to pick it up and read the small print
-
When it arrived it was smothered in raw onions and rather than cranberries it had "mixed berry topping"
-
Blueberries, raspberries with raw onion? With turkey and stuffing and white cheddar cheese?
-
It was dreadful
-
I had one bite and that was more than enough
-
Fortunately ( for me) this was the IHOP were we are "regulars" visiting pretty much once or twice a week for the past 25 years or so
-
The server saw I had pushed my plate away and came right over.
-
I apologized fir not reading the description and just ordering based on the photo and asked fir my beloved turkey Cali melt instead.
-
They made it perfectly and quickly, and then then kindly removed the offending sandwich from the bill and threw in a 10%discount as well
-
There is a littke crepe place we like to visit that does a marvelous Thanksgiving crepe with slices of turkey breast, delicious stuffing, cranberry sauce snd turkey gravy
-
Well I guess I'll try closing my resume again
-
And dream of Thanksgiving sandwiches
-
Welcome to PAGE TWO!
Good morning, friends.
I haven't been to an iHop in perhaps 35 years, but now I have a hankerin'.
-
It looks like there are 3 locations in the greater Metro area, so not too far.
-
I don't know from a McRib, however.
-
Good morning, all!
-
Another bad night of sleep: apartment too warm, could not get comfortable - all the usual complaints.
-
I did not get to City Center yesterday. By 7:30, I had gone from so-so to really nauseous. I called Access-a-Ride and canceled, then called Joshie and left a message. I spent most of the day lying down.
-
So, today Access-a-Ride will take me to Dr. Saltzman, the gastroenterologist I saw last May. I claim there's a problem: a stomach virus does not last for months.
-
I did speak to Joshie, and we have a date for Thursday.
-
I have never had a Philly cheese steak sandwich.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Must get ready to fly.
-
But my arms are tired.
I was telling Carol this past week I need to go to Pat and Gino’s in Philly. Maybe next time.
A former Spurs player, Malick Rose, was from Philadelphia. He opened his own cheesesteak restaurant in San Antonio. In the beginning, he was importing the bread. Now it’s a food truck. The bread isn’t imported. The end result is okay, but nothing I would go out of my way for.
I think it needs salsa or something sharp to cut through all of the cheese.
Who knows how many people have come to visit me and I didn't know they were here?
-
Good morning, all.
-
When in downtown Philly, a visit to Jim's Steaks on South St. is a must. Of course I haven't been there in 30+ years, so I need to do this myself and see if they're still as great as ever. They always had a line going out the door.
I see, however, that it's now called Jim's South St. - and they're closed - but reopening soon? - because of a fire!
I didn't read further than that, so I hope all is well with their return. I don't like the change of name, though. That' just silly. I wonder if they changed ownership. Too many questions. I could seek the answers, but maybe another time.
-
I don't mind a review in which the reviewer doesn't love the piece. It's what they say about the production that counts. Well, mostly. Which brings us to Weiser-Most - whose name is actually Welser-Möst - with an L and an umlaut.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Franz_Welser-Möst
Getting back to the review, it was a damned positive one. Congrats to BK and all concerned.
I have corrected my post to reflect the spelling of my new last name.
I am intrigued by this review of the new Broadway musical HARMONY.
-
The problem with the 70, Girls, 70 review is that the reviewer seems to be reviewing the original as much as the current production. Lots of shows merit more than a one-month run. That alone doesn’t make them a failure.
-
I’m surprised he didn’t compare Faye DeWitt to Lillian Roth, etc.
Travel vibes for the soon to be retired DR JOHN G.
Ditto!
I am home after two very successful rides from my car service, but I am less thrilled with the news. Dr Saltzman wants ASAP blood tests and stool samples ASAP, but the endoscopy and colonoscopy cannot be scheduled earlier than Feb. 2. This means the hip replacement cannot be scheduled before then.
They way service should always be.
Wow on the extra discount.
-
While much appreciated I do find it a bit embarrassing when the cost of the food is removed and it was my error to begin with.
Oh, did you just discover the doorbell doesn't work?
I have never had a Philly cheesesteak sandwich. By the time we moved to a town near Philladelphia we were vegetarians. Not that I ever wanted to try one as they look horrible to me.
-
DR Ron, there are lots of reason we don't care for the new mattress. First, and most important, our backs are worse vs better using it. It should feel good lying down on the mattress at night, not prompt a sigh of discomfort-lol. According to the software I am still sleeping.
Tuesday afternoon greetings. Richard and I are recovering, physically and emotionally, from last night’s and this morning’s funeral events for our sister-in-law Edna. Rob arrived yesterday in time to attend visitation with us and his cousins were surprised and pleased to see he’d made the effort to be here.
-
This morning’s service was at the church where Richard’s parents, Richard and his brothers, and our son grew up and where Richard and I were married. It was very sweet and then we proceeded to Woodside Cemetery and back to the church for a buffet lunch. Rob is on his way back to Chicago now.
-
DR Ginny, moving is emotionally difficult. The loss of a loved one is difficult. Now you have the combination to cope with. I'm glad Rob could be there with you.
Sending more hugs and vibes of comfort.
I occasionally went to Philly to get cheesesteak but never with onions. And I preferred the chicken cheesesteaks.
Thanks for filling us in, DR Ginny. It's a lot to cope with. Hugs to all.
-
Thank you, DRs Jane, Rodzinski, and Singdaw for your kind words.
I had an appointment this morning for a colonoscopy consultation with a gastroenterologist in Augusta GA.
I have had one procedure way back when I was living and working in Oakland CA. I'm guessing it was no earlier than 2012. Since that time, I have been doing the annual home tests. This year, however, my doctor wants the real deal.
So...I am scheduled for Nov. 27th at 11 a.m. That's the Monday after Thanksgiving. And there will be several days of eating only specific things plus the 24-hour fast the day before while I guzzle from the jug of misery.
I don't mind the procedure, but the prep is a pill.
It will be a busy weekend, of sorts. My Thanksgiving will be spent at my cousin Ashleigh's home in Simpsonville SC where she lives a charmed life with her husband Clay, her son Anderson (by her first marriage) and her husband's three sons Cross, Cade and Stone. Two of his sons (in their early 20s) live next door to Ashleigh in a house she and Clay own, and the third son is a student at USC. It's a houseful of testosterone and high spirits, let me tell you!!! They are a delightful family! Ashleigh is my cousin Butch's eldest child, and he and Sharon and I will be driving up Thanksgiving morning. Butch's son Benjamin (from his second marriage) may be joining us. He's a student at nearby Wofford University.
On Saturday, Nov. 25th, my cousin Debra and I will be driving up to Roebuck SC (about 1 1/2 hours from Johnston) for the funeral of our cousin John Brooks. He is the final link to our mothers' family on their mother's side. My maternal grandmother was Ruby Mae Brooks and she married our grandfather, Lester Lee Rook. The Rook-Brookses is how I have always thought of them. I have cousins in both branches, but I see them only once in a great while, and usually just at funerals. It's a sad part of our life at our ages.
-
Will the prep affect what you eat on Thanksgiving, DR Ron Pulliam?
The last time, I recall I was warned about eating certain types of foods up to a week before.
-
Anyone heard anything about this book?
DR elmore3003, I saw that your friend John Wilson got another glowing review and profile in the November Gramophone.
BK, there is also a very highly rated Blu Ray of Schreker's Der Schatzgräber.
-
I'm up, I'm up - almost ten hours of needed sleep.
I like Jersey Mike's subs, but I don't like their chicken cheesesteaks. The chicken is just weird...and very dark in color. :o
DR Ginny did you actually have time to make the pie, or is there a favorite place you purchased it from?
I made it, DR Jane, because I’m trying to use up groceries. I had one can of pumpkin, one can of evaporated milk, and a pair of Pillsbury pie crusts. The pie only needed one crust, so I made what my mother called wound-up cookies: spread a flattened pie crust with butter, sprinkle with a mixture of cinnamon and sugar, roll up, slice and bake. Yum!
It is time for me to vote for my favorite books of the year at Goodreads.
-
The first category was fiction and I quickly voted.
-
Next up, historical fiction. As usual I have read the most books from this category, yet I have three more I need to read ASAP.
-
I'm already half way through one of the books in the Mystery/Thriller group that I might vote for.
-
All in all there are seven books I want to read by the 26th. I seriously doubt that is possible ;D
I don't think so. Poultry is okay. Of course, I'm a sage dressing kind of guy, so I'll have to see if that is on my list.
It is very difficult to determine if a mattress will really be good for you just by testing it at the store, especially with a sleep number type of mattress since you need to determine what the best setting is. That can't really be done until you sleep on it.
Compared to our most comfortable sleep numbers (we are each very different) the Saatva RX mattress felt more comfortable to both of us in the store.
If the new mattress isn't better I don't know what we will do.
I found this online re: colonoscopy prep:
The week before your procedure, try to eat a little lighter and stay away from corn, red meat and seeds. Instead, load up your grocery cart with things like soup, pasta, fish and chicken. Be sure to drink plenty of water.
-
They also suggest a low-fiber diet starting 3 days before. That is the part I was remembering. (avoid raw fruits/veggies, whole corn kernels, nuts, seeds)
-
Sugar cookies are probably fine, But not ones with red frosting.
-
Alas, still posts away from a page turn.
I am home after two very successful rides from my car service, but I am less thrilled with the news. Dr Saltzman wants ASAP blood tests and stool samples ASAP, but the endoscopy and colonoscopy cannot be scheduled earlier than Feb. 2. This means the hip replacement cannot be scheduled before then.
That’s horrendous, three months?!
-
Someone tweeted this earlier tonight:
Jonathan Groff just announced from the stage at Merrily that they’ve recorded a cast album and it’s being released digitally tonight at midnight.
-
And is that east coast midnight or west coast midnight??
-
I still want the physical CD(s), but I might get this first.
-
I do not care for page seven.
-
In case anyone was wondering.
-
Yes, the Merrily digital album is midnight.
-
Listening to music.
-
Watched half a movie.
-
Page eight.
-
Yes, the Merrily digital album is midnight.
It must've been east coast midnight because it's available now. :)
-
However, there's no digital booklet. WTH??
-
One could make a brotherly double feature of the Albert Brooks documentary and the Bob Einstein documentary.
-
New notes are up.
-
Up are new notes.
-
I've seen them.
-
So, my fountain pen that I posted about a couple of weeks ago...
-
I've read them.
-
I wrote them.
-
What about your fountain pen.
-
Let's have it.
-
Waiting.
-
Patiently.
-
Ho hum.
-
Hum ho.
-
I had it in my pocket on Saturday at the theater and I was coming back to the theater from the restroom (we have to go to the mall restrooms because the one in the theater is in the back and it's for the actors).
-
I fell asleep twice already waiting for the damn fountain pen update.
-
Anyway, I put my hand in my pocket and realized that the cap was not screwed on, so I took it out and it slip out of my hand and landed on the nib!
-
That jammed the nib into the pen and essentially ruined it. :(
-
Of the four that I got, that was my favorite.
-
Fortunately, they weren't expensive (only $1+$4 shipping).
-
So, I now have another of the pens that I'm using, and I'll be MUCH more careful with it. ::)
-
Then, I was just trying to see if I could find the e-mails from when I bought them, but I can't find any e-mails that have "fountain" or "fountain pen" in it, so I have no idea where I got them.
-
Oh, well.
-
And...
-
...now...
-
...since we're so close...
This is almost exactly what mine looked like!
-
Slightly different type of wood, but very similar metal screwcap.
-
The image is from Wood Fountain Pens (https://woodfountainpens.com/), but I know that that's not where I got my fountain pens.
