Well, you've read the notes, the notes were zombified, and now it is time for you to post until the zombified cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: BODACIOUS!
-
Good morning, all!

I wanted to sleep late, but Joshie is coming over ro give me my Thanksgiving week Mattress song, "Very Soft Shoes," which I love. I* haven't had any visits, except for Jen syopping by to help me with the paper shredder, in two weeks - Ann was sick with Covid two weeks ago and back to teaching this last week - and I've been feeling poorly, so the place is more of a mess thsn usual.
-
So, I vacuumed the living area yesterday, and this morning, I'll vacuum the kitchen abd tidy up the bathroom before I take my bath.
-
After Joshie leaves, I'll begin the soft shoes number.
-
Good morning, friends.
-
It is Sunday.
-
I have nothing else to report at this time.

I slept rather well. I remember one dream was about the Drama Book Shop, and a co-worker, Jane Grumbach Emerson, who died from a brain tumor sometime between 2000 and 2016. I googled her for an obituary just now, and only found one for her husband Bob, who died in 2016. They met as Drama Book Shop workers ad their wedding was held in the shop. Jane's mother was the lesbian writer Doris Grumbach (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doris_Grumbach), who wrote one of my favorite novels, Chamber Music, a moving and beautifully written book based on the life of American composer Edward MacDowell.
Jane and Bob were neighbors on 82nd Street. Jane's family was part of the Louis B. Mayer family and she grew up in a world of privilege. I liked her, but she was high maintenance. Bob was a fantastic singer, frustrated actor, and a lot of fun. I'm sorry to read of his death. The last timeI saw him, he told me that Jane had died.

Realized I had forgotten to read yesterdays Notes. That has now been rectified.
-
And today's of course.
-
Glad to read that a modern major miracle happened.
-
I also vaguely remember that I dreamed something about the show Camelot. I cannot get "I Wonder what the king is doing tonight" out of my head.
-
Here's to more.

That novel sounds interesting, DR elmore3003.

That novel sounds interesting, DR elmore3003.
It's absolutely glorious and heartbreaking. It was published in 1979, just after I moved to NYC and started working at the Drama Book Shop, and I think my copy must be a first edition. I can't remember now if I bought a copy on my employee discount of if Jane gave me a copy. She and Bob had worked in the Book Shop in the early 1970s. For all I know, they might have waited on me during my multiple visits to New York. They left Manhattan when Jane had her first brain tumor. Her father supervised the surgery in Albany. They had recently moved back to NYC, and she and I became book store employees at the same time in late June 1979.
-
Good morning, all.
-
I needed a better sleep than I got, but you know what?
I'll tell you what.
It is what it is. That's what.
-
I have just a couple of hours to loll about, then I must get ready to head out to the Bedford Playhouse to learn about a guy who knew too much.
-
I had a Camelot dream in 1997 or 1998 that - whatever was actually in it (I may have jotted it down somewhere) - was epic, and left me obsessed from the moment I woke up with "Before I Gaze At You Again".
-
There must be a market for these.
-
Good morning, all.
-
I have had Camelot dreams in the past. Don’t remember any just now, but they have involved, as I recall, You May Take Me to the Fair and the title song.
-
Good morning!

Good Sunday, all.
I had a telephone call yesterday from Arizona....from that old friend I previously told you about who was visiting his son in South Carolina and was determined to visit me for a day or two. I begged off that visit, and he accepted it with grace.
At any rate, he called "just to talk", he said. And for the next 40 minutes or so he talked and talked and told me many things, none of which interested me in the slightest. I realized we have zero in common except the two years we were in the Navy together in Jacksonville FL. I am not certain how a face-to-face meeting will go, but I will persevere.
That said, he asked me if I ever missed being in the Navy. Hell, no, I protested. I retired after 23.5 years and never looked back.
For sure, I have dreams, from time to time, where I find myself arriving at a ship and worrying if I had duty or whether anyone had been looking for me. But I always wake up at the horror of it.
Guess what I dreamed about last night? Go on...GUESS!
It was the most full-blown dream I have ever had about being in the Navy. It haunts me, still.
I have had no desire to go back, but I have awfully good memories and friendships with folks who have also retired. I retired 30 years ago (come Dec. 31). It seems a much shorter time, memory-wise, but there it is.
Everyone I knew in the Navy is retired or no longer in service.
Time has marched on...
-
That's all I have to say.
It's Sunday, and I will soon venture out to Third Generation for my fried chicken lunch, and then come back here for my Sunday afternoon Zoom chat.
I love it when life has an order I can rely upon.

Okay, just one more post.

Listening to Herc, a retelling of the Hercules myth by Phoenicia Rogerson. It’s fun, but the writer doesn’t like her subject, which is odd. It’s told from the perspectives of all the people in his life.

I have mopped all the floors that can be mopped.
I have put away the dishes.
There is a load of laundry in the washing machine.
I got rid of two MORE bags of stuff from the closet.....
And now I'm going to watch television.

Geraldine Page:

I, too, do not miss the Navy.

But Oscar Brand’s bawdy sea shanty “Backside Rules the Navy” often runs through my head.

I'm glad I switched my primary physician to the doctor Keith switched to and really likes. Yesterday I received a nice letter from my previous doctor saying she is retiring. Sad is that she could not find another physician to join her practice and her patients would need to find new doctors. She said the office looked for years to for one, and that even Physician Assistants & Nurse Practitioners are few and far between to find.
It was a heartfelt letter and she obviously feels bad retiring without another doctor in place. I think she was ready to retire and burned out when I left and suspect she only stayed as long as she in order to find another doctor.

DR Ron, it isn't suprising you dreamt about the navy after your phone conversation, but what a dream for you to still be haunted by it.
The past will always sneak up on us, I suppose.

I, too, do not miss the Navy.
Glad to hear it. I wonder, though, if the Navy missed out on you.
-
Well, isn't this a slow day!
-
I just had an hour phone call with a high school student who was told to contact me as a curator of the John McGlinn concert bootlegs. I will be sending him mp3 files of various McGlinn concerts of shows written between 1900 and 1940.

It seems so, and the navy was a BIG part of your past.

Will the movers be able to move and unload all in one day?

Rosalyn Carter has died. Gentle, solid woman. She was 96.

Sad but it seemed as if it was time. And now Jimmy can let go to be with her.

It’s a 2-day move, DR Jane. Furniture tomorrow, boxes and small stuff Tuesday. We’re in good shape, furniture-wise, but there are still a few more boxes to pack. We may end up DIYing some of that throughout the holiday weekend.

And, because Richard just told me to, I’m going out to dinner with my (and DR Elmore’s) friend Andrea. She lives in Atlanta and is in town tonight.

Food comedy today. I really wanted a decent meal and not the usual stuff I order. So, I ordered from a Japanese jernt I like and used to go to in Hollywood - that location closed several years ago and I've never tried the others. I ordered hibachi rice and the teriyaki chicken/tempura combo lunch special about thirty minutes after I got up. I knew it was a one-hour delivery, as it's in Burbank. The one hour turned into ninety minutes because he had another delivery elsewhere. Then he finally got here, no doorbell ring but I'd been tracking him via the DoorDash site. I bring the bag in the house to discover a lot of food that I did not order. Then looked at the name on the outside of the bag - Kristopher. So, I'm sure this idiot driver gave Kristopher my bag and me his.
-
Ninety minutes to get the wrong order. And every item in the bag was stuff I would never EVER eat. So, I went to the site and was refunded my money as a credit instantly. But that wasn't going to cut it because the lunch specials were no longer available and everything was now more expensive. So, I got a guy on their live chat - he, as they all do, said I'd been refunded and there was nothing he could do. I told him that was not acceptable, given that it was the driver's fault, not mine nor the restaurant's, and explained the lunch thing not being available anymore. He said sorry. I told him to get a supervisor and have him call me asap. All of a sudden, magically, he was able to credit me another ten dollars.
-
So, I went to reorder, even though it was going to be another hour, but the lunch special thing I wanted isn't available for dinner. At that point, I'd had it, so I ordered my Eyetalian salad from CPK. I texted the guy in the back house and offered him the wrong order, which he took. The salad came about fifteen minutes later and was very good but NOT what I really wanted and not really enough food for an entire day.
-
So, not sure what I'll do for later, although I still have credit left.
-
Home delivery is a great concept and a great convenience, but it seems to get fouled up much too often.
-
Of course, foul ups can happen even in-person at restaurants.
-
And, if you're ordering poultry, it's a double fowl.
-
I'll let myself out.
-
Nice pockets DR GEORGE!
Thanks, Jrand!
-
And, I'm not wearing it today, but last night I took a picture of me in my new shirt:

Thanks, Jane!

Very nice, DR George. The shirt AND the audience.
Thanks, and thanks, Singdaw!

Is tonight closing night?
The matinee was the last performance...no evening show.

Gratuitous Post #100!

Of course, foul ups can happen even in-person at restaurants.
True, but at least if you're dining in a restaurant, you're right there and any problems can be rectified very quickly.

Robyn and I went to a house concert held in Plainfield NJ
-
Hello, everyone.
-
It was in a beautiful old Victorian house on a beautiful street

There were about 30 audience members and we all brought something for the potluck
-
Around 5 the performer, singer, musician and songwriter Jim Boggia started his performance

It was a very enjoyable 90 minutes

Then we all had dessert together and chatted with Jim
-
Then I drove Robyn home and drove myself home

DRGinny, I’ve been impressed with how much you and Richard have accomplished over the last several months. You sound very organized and started preparing well in advance. Kudos!
The new house looks lovely. I hope it is all you wished for.
