Well, you've read the notes, the notes went on Holliday, and now it is time for you to post until the jolly cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: PUNDIT!
-
Good morning, friends.
-
It's a Jolly Monday.
-
With no Jolly Ranchers on hand.
-
What if there were a bunch of jolly ranchers who ate Jolly Ranchers?
-
That's what I'd like to know.

Good morning, all!

I slept quite nicely last night. I'm very happy to report that the cats kept the pandemonium down last night. Around 2:30 Stella jumped onto the bed and picked a fight with Thatch. That was the last I saw of the three fighting felines until the alarm rang.
-
Today I must call Access-a-Ride and schedule Wednesday's trip to Quest Diagnostics for lab work, contact Jury Duty about being excused, and begin the next round of Once Upon a Mattress work. I have one song, "Very Soft Shoes" (I love it!), and three or four numbers of Joshie's to proofread: "Senstivity," "Shy," andI gorget the others.
-
DR Ginny, best wishes for the first easy moving day. Thanks for the update on Andrea.

Thank you, DR Elmore!

Re: "Bells Are Ringing":
I found the soundtrack in a cutout bin in 1964 or 65. It was mono, undrilled (i.e. no hole punched in a corner) and featured the MGM studio orchestra conducted by Andre Previn.
I knew of the latter two from many film musicals I had enjoyed, and I was eager to get this one onto my record player. I was NOT disappointed. The sound was glorious, the performances a dream, and it became on of my favorite albums.
Flash forward many decades when the score was first issued on CD in stereo. I was blown away! Still am!
I first saw the film on TV in the late 1970s. Not an ideal viewing because it was in an Army barracks at Fort Myer in Arlington VA. There was a channel that would show Holiday Movie Network programming on special holidays, and "Bells Are Ringing" was one of the films being shown.
But I later saw it on TV during a different holiday when I lived in Lawrence, IN (a suburb of Indianapolis), and I fell in love with the film.
"Bells Are Ringing" is, for me, one of the best recorded soundtracks ever released. The songs are terrific, the orchestrations and performances superb, and it truly tells the story of the film.
The Blu ray is superb (except for a scene or two where there seems to be too little room above Judy Holliday's head when she is singing and dancing).
-
TOD:
For the longest time, my favorite actress was Susan Hayward...an opinion formed when I first saw "With A Song in My Heart".
She was replaced by Julie Andrews in the mid-60s.
Andrews was gently eased aside when I saw "The French Lieutenant's Woman." Streep remains my favorite.
For actors, my favorite was Peter O'Toole. That remained so throughout his lifetime. My favorite living actor is Daniel Day-Lewis, now retired. That said, I highly admire Russell Crowe when he is very good, although lately he doesn't seem interested. Let's say I am open to discovery.

-
Much as I love Robert Russell Bennett's orchestrations, I think he was the wrong guy for the Broadway production of Bells Are Ringing. The movie charts leave Bennett in the dust.
-
Pagina Dos.
-
Page 2 Dance!
-
Well the FIRST performer I loved was Miss Annette Funicello.....followed by Lonnie Burr, Tim Considine, and Tommy Kirk - all Disney and Mickey Mouse Club related performers.
-
DR RON PULLIAM and I probably saw BELLS ARE RINGING on Indy TV at the same time.
WFBM [now WRTV] Channel Six showed a big movie in COLOR on Saturday night......and one of them was BELLS ARE RINGING.
It was glorious and everything that MR BK writes about. I was singing and dancing those songs for a couple of weeks afterwards. I finally found the soundtrack LP several years later - pre internet you were at the mercy of Thrift Stores, Rummage Sales, and cut outs from the grocery store.
-
I really liked Carroll Baker in the 1960's - she's still my favorite.
Others:
Elvis Presley
Troy Donahue
Mary Martin
Ethel Merman
Natalie Wood
Steve McQueen
Fabian
And then came THE BEATLES and everything else was history!
-
Good morning, all.

Good morning, all.
Right under the wire! Damn it, a minute late.
-
I had to get up early to go meet someone and pick up music for a student recital/concert I'm playing in January. (Five days before the first cataract surgery, in fact.)
Now I'm back, I've had a bagel (which wasn't very good), coffee (I could use some more), and the guy from the local oil/fuel company is here starting the annual maintenance checkup on the furnace.
-
So while he's going in and out and puttering around in the basement, I'm upstairs ketchuping on things various and sundry.
-
DR George, Cool Whip is not whipped cream :P ;D

Moving Day greetings! We are not as ready as I’d like to be, but we’re ready enough.
It is a bit easier when it doesn't all have to be completed in one day and then the house locked up for good.

And the holiday week starts off with a $$$ thud.
My termite control company came to renew the treatment around my home. This included an underneath-the-house inspection.
Lo(!) and behold! Moisture has set in and poses a problem. Solution: An encapsulation and installation of a dehumidifier under the house. It's not cheap, and it will take several days, but I have known for a couple of years that this was inevitable. I have been running a dehumidifier during the summer inside my house and have to empty its water container several times a day. This was not so a few years ago, but we have had very wet summers and humidity has been high. I may as well get it done now and face 2024 with some sort of accomplishment for the house.
Owning a home is costly, ain't it!
I guess I won't be going to Europe next year.

The presentation yesterday of THAT GUY WHO KNEW WAY TOO DAMNED MUCH was incredible. No one has ever seen this film with the clarity - and the sound - it has now. My jaw was on the floor throughout, and it renewed my love affair with what was actually the first Hitchcock film I ever saw.
BK: I don't remember - was it your first Hitchcock, or had you seen any others prior to that momentous day?
BK saw it during its original release. My shot at it was in 1963 when it was reissued on a double bill with THE TROUBLE WITH HARRY. The latter kind of bored little DR ChasSmith then, but he was thrilled with TMWKTM.
It's this and a few handfuls of other superb 4K releases that are nudging my ASS toward upgrading my player to 4K...and eventually the screen, of course, but one can at least watch the discs on one's existing screen.
Here's the Q&A afterward with Janet Maslin (former NY Times critic) and Robert Harris who helped restore the film.
-
BK, now that you’ve directed 70, Girls, 70, what do you think of the song Home? It was on Sondheim’s of songs he wished that he’d written.
-

I never knew it was on Sondheim's list, but I have always loved the song.

That's great! I wish I could see it. I'm ushering for two events on Sunday, and I'll be in the middle of the second one when that starts. :-\
-
DR RON PULLIAM that happens so much nowadays that it is a pandemic.

DR George, Cool Whip is not whipped cream :P ;D
Yes, I do know that...and I certainly do prefer whipped cream to whipped "topping."
::)
-
Thank you DR CHAS SMITH.
I saw it that man who knew too much at the drive in so probably second run when I was seven or eight.
It had been talked to me by a boy my own age at the the playground who couldn't praise it highly enough. Of course he and I identified with the boy.....and when I saw it, I was floored.....
I don't want to say it's my favorite Hitchcock film....but I would be hard pressed to find another because of my first viewing of it.
The only one that compares is North By Northwest......despite Eva Marie Saint's clumsy performance.

Add me to the lovers of that song. I also love "Boom Ditty Boom." Musically, it's just so much fun!

I am very excited because tomorrow two lovely Indianapolis actresses who were very active with me during the heyday of the Phoenix Theatre are coming to my house for lunch.
This is of course in response to my participation in the Trail Talk about the 40th anniversary of the Phoenix Theatre that happened on November 5.
I am very excited to see them both!

Day One is complete and went very smoothly. Our furniture fits even better than I’d envisioned. Tomorrow should be a much shorter day, but will really clutter the place up with boxes.

I had many favorite actresses when I was young. Aside from Susan Hayward a few were:
Barbara Stanwyck
Myrna Loy
Doris Day
Ginger Rogers
Shirley MacLaine
Natalie Wood
Judy Garland

I mustn't forget my first favorite actress, Shirley Temple.

And we’re not yet on wi-fi, so I’m going to sign off to avoid usage fees on my cell phone. Thanks for all the good vibes today!

So glad to read of your good progress, DR Ginny.

Hi everyone! Happy Thanksgiving week! Finally able to come up for air. It's been a busy 3 weeks. I'm down to White Christmas in my show coffer at the moment - which is great. The General needs some work and catching up to do. We open December 1. On top of that is the school Christmas program which is coming along, I think. Try to stay ahead of the game as best as possible!

Hi Matthew, it nice to see you catching up.

I am currently reading A Fever in the Heartland: The Ku Klux Klan's Plot to Take Over America, and the Woman Who Stopped Them by Timothy Egan.
Wow, just wow!
-
DR Jrand I did not realize that "heartland" referrenced in the title was Indiana.
-
DR Chas, did they show the trailer for The Man Who Knew to Much? I just watched it and had forgotten Jimmy Stewart talks to the audience a little bit about filming the movie.
No, they usually show nothing but the movie at these events.
-
Thanks.
-
Thanks for reporting on the film showing, DR ChasSmith.
-
DR Matthew - glad you're holding it all together. Doing a show at the same time that your school programming comes to a climax takes a certain kind of guts.
-
The klan was definitely a looming threat in Indiana.
-
Reading the book is far scarier than I expected it to be, especially comparing much of it to what is happening today.

“Long Before I Knew You” was first introduced to me on the seminal LP “The Four Aces Sing Hits From Broadway.” Great version. Then I watched the movie with my little sis.

I just got that from the library. Will watch in a day or two.

All the best with both White Christmas and the school show, Matthew.
-
The cheerleading recital was loud and long and exhausting. They kept cheering something that sounded like Ed Meese! Ed Meese!

I’m sure they have no idea that there was someone named Ed Meese.

I have not stopped since I woke up this morning
-
Work, then Post office for WFO, then WFO, then calls with my mom and Vixter ( separate calls)
-
Then off to the grocery store when I realize I was out of kosher salt AND it appears we may have 2 more for dinner Thursday
-
By then it was after 9 and we hadn’t eaten yet so I grabbed 5 Guys fir us
-
A quick bite then I wanted to dry brine then turkey which has been defrosting in the fridge since Thursday
-
Except it still wasn’t defrosted enough
-
Hope you enjoyed your first full work day of retirement, DR John G.
It felt like a weekend.
-
Hi, Vixmom!
-
So there was the cold water bath method until I got all the ice away and gizzards out of the inside
-
Hi JohnG!
-
I’ve never done a dry brine before but I thought I’d give it a try so we’ll see.
-
I mixed up some kosher salt with grated orange rind and some poultry seasoning and gave it a good rub down, inside, outside and under the skin
-
Then I wrapped it all tightly and put it back in the fridge
-
Finding My Elf is kinda like a gay Kritzer World in that it’s about an actor who does better at comedy than heavier material. The difference here is that he has to learn it for himself. While failing in love.
-
Then I cleaned up the kitchen and took out the garbage
-
Good night, all.
-
I’m finally d sitting down to relax but I’ve just noticed it’s nearly 1 am!

I had a kind of gross tiny pizza at 12:30 from a place I'd never tried called Pizza Man. You had to make a choice of thin crust or thick crust. Now, thin crust to me is super thin, like a cracker, and I hate that. So, I got the thick crust pepperoni. Well, the heel of this thick crust was so thick that it took up a third of the slice, with the actual cheese, tomato sauce, and pepperoni's real estate being a two bite affair. Four pieces. I couldn't eat more than two of the heel crusts and threw the others out. And then, it just wasn't digesting well, so I just ordered a little shrimp Louis from Little Toni's, which has never been on DoorDash before. That should be here very soon.
-
Hopefully, your little shrimp Louis from Little Toni's is much better than the tiny pizza!
-
Tonight, I went shopping with my sister.
-
She's having everyone over for Thanksgiving.
-
She even invited both my friends Margo and Shelly to come over.
-
Bev, a former co-worker of her boyfriend Larry, is coming over, too.
-
And a former co-worker of my mom's might come over, also!
-
Anyway, we went to Costco, and then to Fred Meyer.
-
As a thank you for my help, my sister bought me some light bulbs that I needed.
-
They're LEDs, but they have a switch on them that can change the hue (I think) of the whiteness!
-
It can change it from a bright white light (a Sunday in the Park with George reference ;) ), to a more yellow color.
-
It's really cool.
-
I really don't like that bright white light that most LEDs (that I've purchased, at least) have been, so this makes it possible to have a more (or less) yellow look that is very much like incandescent bulbs that I'm used to.
-
The box that I got had only four bulbs, but I don't think I'll need any more than that.
-
There are only a few bulbs that I actually want to replace.
-
And these bulbs are also 100 watt equivalent, so they're quite bright and not what I'd want everywhere.
-
Here's what that switch looks like:
-
And here's how the box shows the differences:
-
PAGE SEVEN DANCE!!
-
I put one bulb in my bathroom fixture, but I already have several other kinds of bulbs in there, so I'll have to test it in another fixture with no other bulbs.
-
I had a bright white LED bulb there, so even just swapping out the one bulb, I already liked how it looked, so we'll see what it all looks like after a little experimenting.
-
I just looked on the box and, fortunately, it did say that it's suitable for damp locations.
-
WHEW!!
-
I do not care for page seven.
-
There, I've said it and I'm glad.
-
And I don't care who knows it.
-
The shrimp louie was a five-star disaster. The shrimp were vile, smelly, rancid, undercooked and after two bites I stopped eating them and just tried to eat the lettuce and tomatoes but they'd all been tainted by the clearly tainted shrimp.
-
My tummy is not happy right about now.
-
I got a full refund and because when there's food quality issues they take it VERY seriously, the also contacted me via e-mail and I suggested to them that given the nausea I was feeling they might want to throw a little extra credit my way.
-
Vile.
-
Threw it in the trash.
-
That was two gross meals today, although the louie was hardly a meal.
-
Blechhhh.
-
Disgusting.
-
Where the HELL did George go?
-
New notes are up.
-
Up are new notes.
-
I've seen them.
-
I've read them.
-
I wrote them.
-
They involve food.
