Well, you've read the notes, you've digested the notes, the notes have digested you, and now it is time for you to post until the jam-packed and jelly-filled cows come home.

It's after midnight and all these food allusions are making me hungry.  Since it's late, I'm just going to deal with it.  Actually, I do have some oatmeal that just might hit the spot, so I'm going to hit the spot with the oatmeal.

After such an incredible Saturday of posts, how did we enter such WUSSBURGER territory?

I love me biscuits and gravy for breakfast, with two over medium eggs.  I love me bacon and eggs with breakfast potatoes.  I especially love me my Eggs Benedict, which I've had twice in the last three days.  I love me my Du-Par's pancakes.  I remember somewhere I had the most divoon biscuits and gravy, maybe in Louisville or Lexington, but definitely on that road trip where I was touring in a show all over these United States in 1966.

All right, PEOPLE, I am not ready to toddle off to the bedroom environment yet.  I am in the mood to DANCE.  For example, I am now doing the Lambada (The Forbidden Dance).

Mmmm...oatmeal is good.

As for restaurant breakfasts, IHOP is always good, usually.  Taco Bell used to have country breakfast burritos that I loved, but then they got rid of their breakfast menu and the country breakfast burritos are no more. :'(

A local restaurant (that also is no more) had a breakfast of biscuits and country gravy that was the best.  They had locally produced organic and home made everything, including their ketchup and jams.  They closed earlier this year because the owner went back to Tibet (no, really!), where he came from.

Biscuits & Gravy is always good with a mess of eggs and bacon or sausage, and a side of grits slathered in butter and nicely peppered.  Was it a Cracker Barrel, perhaps, where you had your biscuits and gravy, BK?  They used to be a staple there.  Of course, biscuits and gravy is pretty much a staple of any breakfast in the south.

I like breakfast usually late at night, somewhere between one and three.  The Pantry used to be a great place for breakfast, though I've not been there for years.

"The American Grill," the restaurant that is no more, included eggs with the biscuits and gravy breakfast.  They had a lot of different breakfasts and lunches.  All very good. ;D

I may have to do my third breakfast in a row when I awaken, 'cause I'm in that breakfast mode.   I wonder if there are any good biscuits and gravy around these here parts.

I don't do sausage often, but every now and then I like them instead of bacon.  And I like ham, if it's more ham steaky than thin-sliced.

And I lovel buttered rye toast.

Holey moley on rye, I want breakfast NOW.

Snatch breakfast, anyone?

Don't you hate it when you're watching a tape of a TV show but then you forget you're watching a tape and you sit their waiting for the commercials to get through?  I hate it when that happens...like it's happening right now. :P I keep forgetting that I'm watching a tape!

I usually don’t have breakfast at any other place than my home environment, butonly during my trip.
I wrote about my ideal breakfast in Hawaii before and this time… how about in Los Angeles.
I’d like to try Du-Par's pancakes for my breakfast, since dear BK often mentions it as his favorite. Is that the one you had when you were in Los Angeles last time, DR JANE?  How did you like it?

I now like to have English Muffins with melted butter and strawberry/apricot jam for my breakfast.

Favorite breakfast:  the coffee and beignets from Cafe Du Monde in New Orleans.  Happily, they have a mix which is just super.

Normally, I eat a small breakfast simply because I can't face the volume of food that early in the morning, nothing to do with eating healthy (!), but end up eating breakfast food for another meal.  Especially on Saturdays at the office during tax season, an early lunch (since they only serve it until 11) might consist of the very classy McGriddle, one of the finest fast food inventions of whatever century they were invented in, or an equally healthy Egg McMuffin.

In my much much younger days, they used to start serving breakfast at midnight at the BK (Burger King, that is) across from TKTS, so I used to wait until at least midnight before heading home from a night of theater or a night of frivolity, so that I could get that piping hot, fresh sausage and cheese croissant before heading home.  In those days, I worked out like a demon and could easily process that kind of food at midnight; these days, if I eat breakfast at midnight, I just end up feeling like I'm gained another five pounds the next day.

Good morning, all!  DRJose, kudos on 8000!  Your acceptance speech left out what I thought for you was the most important question:"What are you doing New Year's Eve?"   By the way, your photos, and DRMBarnum's, last night were beautiful.  I've had two wonderful experiences with Williamstown, once as an audience and once as an employee, and your photos brought back a lot of plasant memories.

This morning, I have some GOLDEN APPLE info to send Mr Jonathan Tunick, and then I'm taking beloved goddaughter Charlotte to see THE WEDDING CRASHERS.  I may work a bit after that on the cruise line shows.  The meeting yesterday on the Chicago Humanities Harold Arlen concert went very well.  I was also happy to learn that a certain ego-inflated over-the-hill, flash-in-the-pan conductor just pulled one more stunt to hang himself.  Can't wait!

TOD:  Breakfast?  For me, it's usually a doughnut and coffee because there's a great doughnut shop on 14th and Seventh Ave.  If it's a festive occasion, the breakfast at "Good Enough to Eat" is quite lovely, and I usuallyu have either an omelette and sausage or French toast.  And lots of orange juice.

There is a decent restaurant nearby that will serve you an omlette of your choice, a side (I chose potatoes) and a bagel.

But at home I usually forgo as I hate to cook in the morning.

Good morning, DR elmore.  Skip says to send his best to you as well!

Skip's actually eating a full breakfast, with eggs and cheese and stuff, and it's all on his diet, on which he's been doing extremely well.  Maybe it's time for me to start eating more in the morning, if that might make me eat less the rest of the day.  (I didn't even know Jose when I stopped eating right, but I blame Jose for my inability to eat right, if that's OK.)

Btw, for big brother fans (here is some comment on last night's show):

My favorite breakfast? I like blueberry pancakes.  I don't love any type of eggs that i've tried.  I used to like going to the IHOP (they don't have them here).  And I also used to like eating McD's egg mcmuffin and hashbrowns (although i rarely eat that).  We don't have taco bell. Although the thing here is breakfast restaurants (that are called Egg something (all with a different last name)). But i have not been to any of them! :(

Good Morning!

As for breakfast.... well, I just had a bowl of oatmeal...  In any case...

Corned Beef Hash with Two Eggs over easy - and I prefer my hash crispy at the edges.   So hard to find good hash nowadays - especially the real stuff made with "real stuff", and not out of a can.

I also remember that my brothers and I just loved toast - Wonder Bread, lightly toasted, then slathered with already softened butter.  There were times when the four of us would go through a whole loaf in one sitting.  -A whole loaf between the four of us, not each of us having a whole loaf - although, that probably could have been possible.  Of course, part of the allure, was "cooking" the toast - such a fun cooking contraption the pop-up toaster is!

Similarly, my father would wake up on some weekends, and start making a big pancake breakfast for everyone.  He would just man the stove, and we would all just stuff our faces.  Bacon and/or sausage, eggs - scrambled and fried, toast - butter and jelly, and orange juice.  YUM!

The one on the left is Callie, she is a calico. The one on the right is Nilla, he is a tabby.  They both have the names they had at the shelter where I adopted them.  Since everyone thinks Nilla is a girls name, I frequently call him Mr. Nilla, he likes that.

I love breakfast. It's my favorite meal. My "usual" is 2 eggs over easy with hash browns and wheat toast.

Lately, Paul and I have been having out Saturday breakfasts at the organic market. The menu varies every week depending on what is fresh.  The omelets and quiche are fun, you never quite know what veges will be in them.  I especially like the Spanish Omelets. The pancakes are always covered with fresh fruit, usually picked the day before.

Yesterday the quiche had potatoes, sprouts, peppers, onions, turnips and spinach - at least that's what I think was in it. It was great.

I also had a fabulous piece of rhubarb pie with homemade whipped cream on top. It was delightful.

I love breakfast!! My buddy Mark and I used to go to breakfast almost every Saturday and Sunday. Now that he has a boyfriend we switched our breakfasting to Fridays around 10:30, usually going to The Original Pancake House.

My favorite breakfasts would consist of pancakes, eggs over easy, and bacon....blueberry pancakes are a favorite! Now, however, I usually get an omelet. Spinach and mushroom. And lots of coffee!

On most days, however, my breakfasts are pretty boring. Low carb cereal of some sort.

Oh my, the IHOP!  There was a great one in the Georgetown Shopping Mall in Brooklyn.  When there was a long break between classes during college, several of us used to skeedaddle over to that IHOP and have their chocolate chip pancakes, or if we wanted to be healthy, their banana pancakes.  It was either that or study in the library - tough choice.

The Shoney's restaurants around here have a breakfast bar that you can stuff yourself on. Denny's doesn't have a bar, but they have a meat lovers' breakfast (bacon, ham, and sausage with eggs, hash browns, toast) that is so much food you can't walk out of the restaurant once you've eaten.

LITTLE MISS BROADWAY has always been one of my favorite Shirley Temple movies, too. I remember that musical number in the courtroom at the end of the film where the whole thing is kind of in neon or something. Haven't seen the film in years, but I do remember liking it very much.

Fox dressed Shirley in ridiculously young clothes for JUST AROUND THE CORNER, too, and at one point in the film, she asks a question that someone of her age would naturally know the answer to, but perhaps a four year old wouldn't. JUST AROUND THE CORNER came out after LITTLE MISS BROADWAY, so it was just as ridiculous as bk noted in his, well, notes.

Good morning - and Happy Birthday to my Mama! She's 21 years older than me today, until I catch up with her in November, at which point she will only be 20 years older. Isn't that interesting? Isn't it just too too?

My, how I do love my breakfast. I'm southern - we pride ourselves on our breakfasts, even though we tend to eat them for dinner. My dad is a wonderful cook (as is my mom [Happy Birthday, Mom!]), so he makes pancakes, fried eggs, homemade biscuits and milk gravy, cheese grits and hash browns. Oh...and sausage patties. I don't do links, so he does patties instead. And if he wants to get really fancy, he'll fry up some pork tenderloin or even chicken if he's in the mood for it. Good Lord, now I'm hungry...

DR FJL: I agree that the McGriddle is a genius invention. So tasty... And the Croissan'wich (sausage, egg & cheese) at Burger King is pretty nifty, too.

For a quickie breakfast, however, I'm always up for some Krispy Kreme doughnuts. ALWAYS.

Greetings all.

Just caught up on yesterday's posts, and I'm quite glad that I did it from my father's computer, which is graced with a high speed connection.  It made getting through all those pics SO much easier:)  Great pics, though.

DB Jed and I spent yesterday evening with his mother and sister, chatting and doing the birthday gift thing.  I got to see oodles of pics of Jed when he was a wee spring of a twig of a lad, which I quite enjoyed.  Perhaps I'm a bit biased, but I think he was an adorable baby :)
Today we shall be brunching with his mom and sister, along with his grandparents, which should be fun.  Then, after we've finished raiding our respective parents' laundry facilities, we'll be off home again :)

Breakfasts...I LOVE breakfasts.  I love cold cereal...I just finished a bowl of Rice Krispies, a personal favorite.  I also love oatmeal, both regular and instant varieties.  Odd though it may sound, I quite enjoy cold leftover oatmeal with some cold milk and white sugar...yummy.
Pancakes are probably my favorite breakfast.  My friend Tiana and I used to visit IHOP fairly regularly.  My favorite breakfast there was the Pumpkin Pancakes (only available in the fall) with eggs over medium, and hashbrowns.  I'm with Jose on hashbrowns...I like them crispy around the edges.
I love eggs in any form, scrambled or fried or boiled or whatever.  I've still never tried Eggs Benedict...probably should do that at some point.
French toast is WONDERFUL when done right, and god awful when not.  There is no middle ground with french toast.

okay, I'm making myself hungry!  Only two hours 'till brunch time, though...i can make it.

The pancakes are excellent but it is their boysenberry syrup I go for.  To me it is the best topping for a pancake.  Du-Pars was recently purchased (a big shock to me).  While the food was the same they now allow you to order one pancake instead of a stack-the perfect amount for me.  :)

I haven't had an English Muffin in a long time.  I like butter or Cinnamon-Plum tea jam.  I never combine the two.

Oh, the Original House of Pancakes is THE best pancake restaurant.  Since it is so fattening, we eat at the charming and fantastic Mother’s in downtown Portland.  Their lunch menu is also delicious.  Next I want to eat dinner there.

DR Jason -  Yes, I forgot about the egg in that Burger King delicacy.  But in my twenties, I was so anxious to seem cool that I would never call it a Croissan'wich, always a sausage, egg and cheese croissant.  And even when the lady would ask something like "You mean the Croissan'wich?"  I wouldn't use the word.  But today, I've grown up and don't mind using words like Croissan'wich.  I see that as a sign of growth and progress.  :)

Hisaka, unfortunately I don’t have a photo, on the computer, of our Bosco.  She was a perfect example of a tortoiseshell and white cat, affectionately known as torti & white.  A tortoiseshell doesn’t have the large patches of white.

I will post more detail & photos, if I can manage them.

Calico
Separate solid blocks of color, which must include red (orange), black, and white. They also may have blocks of tabby pattern, which produces an extremely colorful and beautiful cat. Dilute calicos, have the same separate blocks of color, only the colors are "diluted," i.e. "faded" shades of the original, which gives them an ethereal appearance. A dilute calico will have pale orange or buff for the red, and gray (or "blue") for the black.

Tortoiseshell AKA "Tortie"
Instead of solid blocks, torties' coats weave the three colors throughout, creating a tapestry of color. "they are cloaked in the lovely colors of Fall." Tortoiseshell cats may also be dilute, with softer versions of the colors.

It should be noted that white plays a very small role in the tortoiseshell pattern - most of the color weaving is done with the red and black components.

I wonder if I can guess which conductor elmore is talking about?

Du-Par's' pancakes were recently voted the best in the United States by Esquire Magazine.

I'd go over there right now, but you can't get in on Sunday before two without waiting for 30 to 60 minutes.  Even yesterday when Tammy and mum and I went, we had to wait 25 minutes, and that has never happened on a Saturday before.  Methinks the sheep are in season.

I will post more detail & photos, if I can manage them.

Tortoiseshell is usually darker, and more brown, than tabby, which is more orange.

On dogs, the color is called "brindle."  See pic of Peggy, to the left.  (The one being held; the holder is run-of-the-mill grey.)

Oh my, the IHOP!
I can remember the original IHOP (http://www.ihop.com/company0.html), when it opened in Toluca Lake.  (That's a fancy name for Burbank, by the way, or a section of Burbank not too far from the movie studios.)

Toluca Lake is also responsible for Bob's Big Boy, if I remember correctly.

A branch of IHOP has opened near where der B and I live. (http://ihop.know-where.com/ihop/cgi/site?site=03078&address=)  We haven't been in, though; der B feels they've watered down the product over the last several years by focusing on dinners and lunches, and their breakfasts have fallen from the earlier standard.  I tend to agree with him.  Besides, we can get a pretty good breakfast over at the Rehoboth Diner, which is a lot closer to our house.

I almost forgot the incredible Ann Sather restaurant in Chicago.  I can't even remember what I had there, just that whenever anyone mentions Chicago (the city, not the show), I think of Ann Sather.

For breakfast experiences, I have to mention the Dsiney character breakfast at the Cinderella Castle at Disney World.  We were with a three-year-old, so the characters kept stopping by, and that somehow made the food taste even better.

Alton Brown has three Breakfast Eats volumes on the Good Eats DVDs.  Volume one includes the episodes "True Brew" (coffee), "The Egg Files I" (scrambled eggs, eggs over easy and lemon curd), and "Flap Jack Do It Again" (pancakes).  Breakfast Eats 2 includes "Oat Cuisine" (oatmeal), "Yogurt: Good Milk Gone Bad", and "True Brew II: Mr. Tea."

I'm not sure what is included on volume three, but should know soon; der B is giving me the latest (not last) nine discs for my 52nd, doleing them out three at a time, just to entice me!

DR FJL: I've never been "too cool" in any aspect of my life, so I've always just called it a Croissan'wich. The only thing I've EVER been too cool to order by name is the Moons Over My Hammy at Denny's. I refuse to do it and I laugh in the direction of anyone who does. It's just too campy for words.

All the talk last week of CARNIVAL inspired me to go out and borrow a cast recording to give it a listen. What a loverly score! I'm about to go to ibdb.com and find out the scoop on that show. Any insights from DRs would be greatly appreciated. I know nothing about its history...

ibdb.com is worthless if you're actually trying to research a show. I'm ashamed to say that I actually found a nice synopsis at Tams-Witmark's website, so I suppose that will suffice. CARNIVAL sounds like a gem of a show. I wish I could see a fully-staged production.

Every time that I've ordered a Croissan'wich, when they announce it over the speaker to their kitchen area, they've always called it a croissant.  Maybe it's a local thing, but I've always wondered about that.  Why would Burger King go through the trouble of creating a trademarked word (and product, the "Croissan'wich") and then their staff not use it?  Just wondering. ;)

All this talk of breakfast made me realizie that all I have had this morning was coffee.  Well, since I have no breakfast fixings in the house, I settled for a pint of Ben & Jerry's Fudge Central.

In the morning hours (before noon), I usually stay away from sweet breakfasts (pancakes, French toast), preferring omelets or egg scrambles.  And breakfast isn't breakfast without gravy on my hashbrowns, with enough gravy leftover to dunk my toast in it.

The mind can really play funny tricks. I was so surprised in watching THE HIGH AND THE MIGHTY this afternoon that there weren't more flashbacks in the film. I seemed to remember every passenger having a flashback story, and actually there were far fewer than I remembered there being.

Very enjoyable and very nostalgic seeing this film. And John Wayne must have given all his old Hollywood cronies a day or two of work on the picture because it was a veritable parade of Hollywood character actors from beginning to end. Even when one didn't remember a name, the face or voice sounded warmly familiar, like an old friend saying hello.

And yep, I had tears in my eyes as people departed the plane at the end.

I can tell you that Anna Maria Alberghetti had a sizzling feud with David Merrick shortly into the run of CARNIVAL! and she left the production for a time. Not that Merrick was any saint, but word was that Anna Maria was quite the diva and in an era where folks like Merman and Martin never missed a performance, she was bad about missing shows. Several young actresses of the time played Lili during the run including Susan Watson, Anita Gilette, and even Anna Maria's sister Carla.

CARNIVAL was one of those shows that opened too late to be included in the Tony Awards of the year when BYE BYE BIRDIE won the award. I suspect it might have had a better chance of winning Best Musical that season than in the following one when it lost to HOW TO SUCCEED.
It did win the New York Drama Critics Circle's Best Musical prize.

It was an utterly beguiling show. Glorious and exciting to a young person watching it (I suspect it was to me what ANNIE was for a later generation of youngsters going to the theater.), I remember not wanting it to end. (But I've been that way my entire life about shows I was loving. Had the same reaction at the end of SPELLING BEE two weeks ago.)

THE HIGYH AND THE MIGHTY looked surprisingly good, too. I had read a review somewhere that said the movie was brought back from near ruin, and if that's true, some restoration team did a crackerjack job. Though some long shots looked kind of grainy and a bit out of focus, all of the interior shots were sharp and the whole thing seemed totally free of debris found on most films this old. I hope the DVD sells well enough to have made the restoration worth the effort and money.

When THE HIGH AND THE MIGHTY concluded, I loaded in another lengthy opus, JUDGMENT AT NUREMBERG. I've always loved this movie, had it on laserdisc for years, but this is my first viewing of the DVD.

Of course, MGM as usual hasn't done an anamorphic transfer, merely being content with a letterbox, but it looks fine thus far. Didn't get very far in before I shut the equipment off. The skies were darkening and I knew a storm was approaching. It's here now, and it's a whopper.

Not to appear self-absorbed, but I - that's right, I - brought up the Carol Channing-Sid Caesar-Abe Burrows-Tommy Lee Jones flop FOUR ON A GARDEN here on HHW (was it just a few days ago?) as one of the theatergoing experiences that changed my life.  In my experience, no one has ever discussed FOUR ON A GARDEN on any message board I've ever seen in the past in all my years of trolling these boards.  And sudddenly, there's a palpable thread on CASTRECL about - you guessed it - FOUR ON A GARDEN.  Coincidence?  :)

I think we all know that people from many other boards read this site regularly if not on a daily basis.  I see and hear it all the time, whether it's the wholesale borrowing of thread ideas, or whether it's the retail borrowing of our patented catchphrases, right down to the actual theft of ideas (wait until I tell you about one such occurance that I found out about recently - you will not believe it - Tammy was with me when I was told this thing, and her mouth just about hit the floor).   Of course, we get no acknowledgments, no, that would be asking too too much.  But, it's all very flattering.  Sort of.

TOD:

Duck eggs, fried over easy.
Scrapple (1/2 inch slices fried 'till crispy outside but still moist inside).
Buttered rye toast.

I like an occasional side of Maize Escoffier saute en beure (For you trailer folks - fried corn meal mush).

I also like a good German breakfast:

Boiled egg
Crispy crust fresh baked hard roll with cheese and sliced luncheon meats.

When no one is looking I like to toast three slices of wheat bread, butter them, then cut into sixths.

In a soup dish place six bread bits, top with a soft-boiled egg, add a dollop of butter and fresh craked pepper, add six more bread bits, egg, etc, do it again! (Three slices of bread three boiled eggs and more butter than you dare admit). Stir joyously. Consume with lots of good hot English Breakfast tea (sugar, no milk).

Of course, part of the allure, was "cooking" the toast - such a fun cooking contraption the pop-up toaster is!

Sure beats puting the bread on a stick and holding over the fire pit in front of the cave like I used to do.

der Brucer

Actually, truth to tell, we did have a toasting fork to use over the gas burner on the stove; when more modern times hit the kitchen, we had a toaster that required you to rotate the bread to toast each side.

Tortoiseshell AKA "Tortie"
Instead of solid blocks, torties' coats weave the three colors throughout, creating a tapestry of color. "they are cloaked in the lovely colors of Fall." Tortoiseshell cats may also be dilute, with softer versions of the colors.

Good evening, all.  I've spent the afternoon with my mom, her sister, and my sister.  We helped my aunt take care of some moving in issues, went for a ride in my new car, and had an early dinner at The China Cottage - for the 4 of us we ordered 1 appetizer (crab rangoons) and 2 entrees (chicken chow mein and sesame shrimp) and I still have enough leftovers to take for my lunch tomorrow.  Their portions are huge and delicious.

Some of my breakfast favorites are things I make right here at home:  corn fritters, cream-filled crepes with blueberry topping, egg and sausage casserole.  I do love to go out for breakfast, too, and for brunch at places like First Watch and a Cincinnati favorite, The Grand Finale.  In 1963, on vacation in Maine, my parents and I stopped at a place between Camden and Rockport where the breakfast special that day was baked beans and hot apple pie.

I just spoke to my Father, and it looks like a trip to Ohio somewhere between Sept 20-28 is in the works.  I'd go earlier but he's in San Diego from Sept 1-15 or so.  Look out, DRGinny, I'm on my way!

Interesting that the re-release of The Wizard of Oz is going to have two different covers

The 3dvd release will have this

and the 2dvd release will have this

I think the 3dvd collection art work is far more interesting.

I don't know yet; it all depends on family madness, but thanks for the invite!

Good Evening!

Good run-thru this morning!  We did have some members of the acting company who were caught a bit off guard by the change in schedule - they had not re-checked their e-mails since getting the first schedule.  But, we all survived, and the run went very well.  We got through the show in one hour and 28 minutes.  The last time we ran the show it ran one hour and 31 minutes - and that was without the new song/scene!  Go actors!

After the run-thru, we had about another hour of rehearsal just to run some fixes.  Then we spent a good chunk of time in meetings discussing the good, the bad and the problematic, and also coming up with our game plan for our one and only tech day tomorrow - Noon to 3:00am.

However, since rehearsal doesn't start until Noon, at least we can all sleep in a bit tomorrow.

DR Jason - I finally listened to the mp3s last night that you sent me earlier in the week.  Bravo!  -Truly, I mean that.  I was quite impressed.  -And I think you know by now that it takes quite a bit to impress me.  :)

-And I hope you don't mind me passing those on to DR elmore.  I just had to share them.

Ohhh... DR DerBrucer reminded me about scrapple again!  I love me some good, crispy scrapple - with scrambled eggs and biscuits.

And I had some of the best Fried Corn Meal Mush in Nappannee, IN - in Amish country.   Soooooo good.

DR Jose: Thank you. It means a lot coming from you. :) I hope you don't think I sent those to you as a way of fishing for compliments, though...I get majorly turned off when people do that. I just wanted to share. And no, I don't mind that you forwarded them to DR Elmore. I'm flattered.

I am surprised, though, by how many people have said that my singing voice sounds different than what they expected. I wonder what they expected!?!

With all this talk of breakfast foods, I simply had to have breakfast for dinner. I scrambled some eggs, popped a couple of Pillsbury Grands in the oven and made my first stab at homemade sausage gravy. I have to admit...it was pretty damned good! I have enough to last me through tomorrow (at least), so I'm happy. Since then I've finished off the Karamel Sutra that I got a few days ago (which was quite yummy) and started on the Vanilla Heath Bar Crunch.

Did I mention the ridiculous thunderstorms we've had here tonight? I honestly can't remember this much rain in such a short period of time since I moved here. Well, maybe during a Nor'easter, but...WOW! Quite a bit of rainfall, lots of lightning...we never get lightning...and even a hint of green in the skies, which always meant tornado weather in Oklahoma. But the temperature dropped about 20 degrees and we needed the rain, so YIPPEE!!

DRMATTH you might be thinking of THE CROWDED SKY, and THE HIGH AND THE MIGHTY ripoff that was jam-packed and jelly-filled with flashbacks.  It featured Efrem Zimbalist Jr, Rhonda Fleming, Keenan Wynn, Patsy Kelly, John Kerr, Anne Francis, and Troy Donahue.

I don't think so. I've never seen that movie. I think I might have been thinking of PHONE CALL FROM A STRANGER which is strange itself because it doesn't take place on an airplane, and is in black and white, made at Fox.

Does anyone know if the pair of Sherman Brothers movie musicals of Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn were actually released this week?

I believe they were, and these Panavision movies were released in full frame editions. Most everyone I know is not buying them.

He is touring OZ but it looks as likely that his Melbourne Concert will be cancelled due to lack of interest! Someone left his cake out in the rain and it's just not attractive any more it seems.

And here is the DVD cover for Darling Lili. I am not crazy about it, but the other original art work from the films release was nothing to write home about either. Interesting that they are giving Jeremy Kemp such prominence (sp) on the cover. In fact his image is bigger than Julie Andrews'!

Julie looks beautiful in that head shot. I am looking forward to having this on something other than a videotape recorded from AMC.

Instead of going back to JUDGMENT AT NUREMBERG which I knew would run into my SIX FEET UNDER viewing, I decided to watch TO HAVE AND HAVE NOT.

I got this off TCM since I never got around to buying the DVD when it was released in the last year or two. I suspect TCM is using the master element for this telecast that was used for the DVD because it looked the best I've ever seen it look with gorgeous contrast and very sharp images. Thoroughly enjoyed watching it again after many years away from it.

SIX FEET UNDER was a gut-wrenching experience from beginning to end. With so much in turmoil, I cannot imagine how the series is going to end next week. It is going to be a 75 minute series finale episode, however.

Well, yeah, but he was always a beauty at that point in his career.

Speaking of which, when I went to the to-watch shelf and selected JUDGMENT AT NUREMBERG this morning, my eyes fell on SECONDS, too, and I need to watch that before too much longer also.

HBO also advertised that next week, after the finale episode of SIX FEET UNDER airs on Sunday night, they're going to have a tribute retrospective show on its five year run. That special broadcast will be on Monday night.

At least, I think that was what was said. That flew by VERY quickly, and I was still in a kind of paralysis from the episode that had just concluded.

The job keeps getting more and more interesting.

Earlier this week, I was asked if I would be interested in staying on beyond Labor Day.  The people asking, all in management, reminded me that it would mean a cut in pay; the great wages were only intended for the summer season, when the Rehoboth tourists add substantially to the market's business.  But heck, they told me that there would be a pay cut back when I was hired in the first place, so there's no news there.  I of course said yes, I'd love to stay on the staff.  It's a job I enjoy, and I'm learning a lot, including about myself.

Today, the management told me of a change in my work schedule.  Not more hours, they've already got me scheduled for 36 this week, which ain't bad for part time work.  No, they've switched my day off from Saturday to Friday...and the time I'm working on Saturday to a shift that starts at seven in the evening to one in the morning!

Most people would probably be less than thrilled with this, but I think it's a fantastic opportunity to learn another aspect of the job, working a very late shift with a very different clientelle and a very different rhythm to how the work gets done.

OK, I'm a little strange.  But this is going to be one fantastic week.

(And der B is very happy that I'll be with him to ladsit on Friday.)

I was just shaving for Berniece - she prefers her men clean shaven (she works better that way, if you get my meaning) - when I looked down and thought to myself, "Hmm...would you look at that? This shaving cream is pink! I don't remember buying pink shaving cream!" Then I noticed the three (THREE!) bloody cuts on my chin and jaw. I'm now plastered with Kleenex in an attempt to stop the bloodshed.

The things I do for Berniece. She better appreciate and recognize!

I made it my mission to impress upon the library selectors where I work to (attemt to) specify the widescreen versions of DVDs that they order if there is a choice and for the most part they have been converted.  When juvenile DVDs are purchased, however, they still tend to get the full-frame editions because kids don't know from widescreen and if they ever watch it on broadcast TV, it's full-frame and that's what they want, so that's what they get. ::)
