Well, you've read the notes, the notes needed some merry, and now it is time for you to post until the merry cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: CROMULENT!
-
CROMULENT!
That contraption in Sunday in the Park with George?
-
Good morning, friends.

~~~FEEL BETTER PRONTO VIBES~~~ for BK and any DR that needs 'em!!!!!!
-
That's MMMM, for short.
-
Last work day before the holiday weekend.
-
Good morning, all!
-
The Upper West Side is clearing out for the next two weeks: I was the second delivery this morning for Amazon Fresh. It arrived by 6:30, and it took me around 30 minutes to put away.
-
Usually, Amazon Fresh never arrives before 7:15-7:30.
-
I have a ton of cleaning this morning: too many cartons to take to the basement, laundry to prepare for tomorrow, and I really need to vacuum this morning.
-
Good morning
-
I had some weird dreams but now they disappeared and I can’t quite grasp them
-
Maybe I’ll Wordle and get the day started
Good morning, all.
Get well vibes for BK!
-
Good morning, all.
-
I woke up thinking it was Saturday.
Good morrow, folks!
Friday it is, and Friday it shall remain...until midnight, EST.
-
Vibes for BK and us all.
-
Yes, DR Rodzinski, I did a small countdown to move us along to a new page.
I don't know what got into me.
I guess I thought DR slingflaw was getting slack and someone had to do it.
-
Got a memorial service this morning and ushering for a big band Christmas show tonight.
-
So, after yesterday’s li’l discussion about Nutcracker recordings, and in my unhappiness with myself for not having nabbed a copy of DR Elmore’s recommended Irving/NYC Ballet one when the subject came up before, I briefly checked eBay listings then went to Discogs to see what’s what… and I took the plunge on something I hadn’t acquired in over 20 years… the Kapp reel-to-reel release.
There were two copies available, one of which I deemed not at all worth the asking price plus shipping, and one in seemingly great shape for $10 plus $14 shipping from Canada. That’s about what any of the available stereo LPs would have come to, so no contest, because $10 is, these days, a steal for a reel-to-reel tape.
There’s no telling when it’ll get here, of course, but I will have a full repor when it does.
That slack Singdaw. Sounds like a sitcom.
-
I am...ahem...congested this morning.
Not my usual state of health.
I am still going to Sam's Club to get the things that must be gotten before Christmas, so....
Hopefully, my first cup of coffee will set me to rights.
I need to make my radish bread before Noche de los Rabanos tomorrow.
I remember how Tom loved the stage version of Holiday Inn.
More vibes for BK
-
I really enjoy Tom's performance as Scrooge in SCROOGE!
-
Maybe SCROOGE didn't have an exclamation point in its title, but it should have. :)
-
How nice that Ron asked for page 10 or 11 yesterday, and sure enough, that happened!
-
Continued feel better vibes for MR BK.
-
I am repeating the TCM REMEMBERS link for anyone who may have missed it last night.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i-OggxFtRLE
-
I think there was a mention of Mr. B.I.G. when he passed away.
-
I shall have to look on MAX for the Leone documentary.
Now and then I watch my DVD of The Colossus of Rhodes....and I always wish we had the leading man originally cast John Derek instead of who we get Rory Calhoun.
-
Oh right, I meant to look this up yesterday:
March 9, 2023:
MR. B.I.G. AND I
-
Loved watching Maestro last night.
Like every bio-pic ever made, it has its flaws or falls short in one respect or another. A ten-hour miniseries would have been nice, but it’s quite the ride for its two hours, and I shall look forward to repeat viewings when I’ll be able to feel free to concentrate on details.
-
There’s no telling when it’ll get here, of course, but I will have a full repor when it does.
DR ChasSmith, I have a memory that the last time I looked for the Kapp recording online that the reel to reel may be missing one of the Act Two dances; do you have the Dover full score for Nutcracker? Also, at the time of the recording, Robert Irving was the NYC Ballet's music director and, either before or after, he was the MD for the Royal Ballet. He knows his stuff!
Yikes! Yes, I have the Dover full score and I’ll listen through the entire piece with it and report back. Thank you for the heads up!
-
Got through dishes and getting a few ingredients together for the radish bread. I will have to make after the memorial.
-
Also finished Surely You Can’t Be Serious. Highly recommended if you love the movie. The section on Ethel Merman’s cameo is fun.
-
I'm up, I'm up - barely.
-
Whatever food poisoning issue I have is, I'm afraid, the last straw. My stomach, like the last time this happened a couple of weeks ago, feels like constant cramping, like to idiots are in there pinching things. So, I was up a good deal of the night. Pepcid's not helping at all. I guess I needed one more thing to make this week a complete disaster. I may try for more sleep later.
-
At least the other stuff seems to be calming down - breathing through both nostrils now and the cough isn't quite as horrific.
This food poisoning has happened far too frequently, Bruce! Something you are routinely eating is simply not agreeing with you. It is likely something you favor and enjoy, too.
I recommend seeking medical assistance in narrowing down what is making you sick.
I completed my trip to Sam's Club with no issues of any kind other than drivers who don't understand who has the right-of-way at a four-way stop.
I was stopped and waiting for a car to my right to go through, when he did I started through, but the car that was behind him decided not to stop and cut right into my path/right-of-way.
No accident happened, but it was close.
-
For all the stuff that Sam's Club has, it did not have one of the main things I wanted: Christmas bags of a medium size.
I found what I wanted at The Dollar Tree just up the road from where I live. Stopped there on my way home.
I did get my blueberry muffins and ice cream product from Sam's, however, so the trip wasn't a waste.
-
I had baked catfish, grits, succotash and a baked sweet potato for lunch.
The owner of Third Generation asked me what I was doing on Christmas Day. I have Christmas Eve plans, but none for the next day. Therefore, I was invited to Christmas Dinner for friends of Third Generation. It is a private dinner for their constant patrons. I am honored to be asked, and I may go.
-
I have gift bags to prepare for Christmas Eve. I plan on wrapping a few things, and the rest will just be tossed into bags.
Most Christmas gifts have already been given...all the ladies got earrings and they got seasonal candles (Harry Slatkin variety) to burn during the holidays.
These folks are all cousins, but as I have no children of my own, I think of them as such.
-
DR John G., I have received two amaryllis bulbs in wax. They won't be blooming any time real soon, but they have grown quite a bit since I put them near a window earlier this week.
I drive defensively at all times. Far too many folks refuse to heed signs, lights and rights of way.
Since I retired, my driving has been far less anxious/anxiety-inducing. I see my former self in folks who suddenly appear in my rear-view mirror when I'm doing the speed limit, and they are 10-15 mph over the limit.
My mom used to perturb me by not stopping for Stop signs, but she would say everyone locally does it when they can see that nothing is coming. She's the one who criticized me for breathing when I was learning to drive!!!
The bread looks great, DR John G. Did you make your fruitcakes this year?
No. Since it was discovered that dried can give me kidney stones, I dropped the whiskey nut cake, which had four pounds of dried fruit in it.
-
Oh, that's so sad!
-
By the way, whiskey nut cake sounds so much more dignified than fruit cake.
-
Dignity. Always dignity.
-
Two houses, both alike in dignity.
-
Always glad to oblige, DR Jrand73.
While a smart decision it is sad.
That's too bad. Sorry to hear that.
Classmates.com sent me an email saying they found a photo of me in the Winter'67 year book. Keith is also in the photo since it is a photo of our Thespian club. Even though this is after Bruce graduated I will share the photo to see how many people he recognizes.
What a great photo!
Thank you.
You might recognize DR Penny.
Who was wearing a cast. I need to ask her about that.
Hello, everyone.
-
Whilst sleeping for most of the day and evening, a modern major miracle arrived.
-
I was just going to post that Jeanne couldn't get online.
-
Back to bed. I honestly think it's the best thing I can do.
-
Thursday morning about 1 am Spectrum, my ISP, had an outage. It was over around 4 am, but my wi-fi never came back. I had a long call with Spectrum, who said everything looked good at their end and referred me to Apple, since I have an Apple router. Than a long call with Apple, who told me to go to Best Buy or Apple to have all the settings reset. I did that this morning, but was told they can’t do that. My iPad was able to connect to the internet in the store, confirming that it’s not a hardware problem with the iPad. I must do all my internet access from my iPhone — ugh!
-
Oh that's terrible, DR Jeanne. I'm sorry.
-
EIGHT.
-
Another headache you didn't need.
-
I’m trying to keep up with the posts, but I won’t be helping the post count much.
-
It is high time for everyone's luck to change.
My best to all of you for a delightful holiday weekend.
I’m staying home, which is all I want to do. I’m finding relaxing at home is quite the thing. I’ll post as I can.
Good night.
Good night, DR Jeanne.
I had baked catfish, grits, succotash and a baked sweet potato for lunch.
The owner of Third Generation asked me what I was doing on Christmas Day. I have Christmas Eve plans, but none for the next day. Therefore, I was invited to Christmas Dinner for friends of Third Generation. It is a private dinner for their constant patrons. I am honored to be asked, and I may go.
That is very nice. You should go. When do you need to let them know if you are attending?
I just show up if I can. No prior notice required.
-
Up again.
-
I think I'll stay up now until the notes are posted.
-
DR George, I think it is the hardest on you since you saw him the most :(
Thanks.
Jed actually knew him longer...but still it's never easy.
Doc Watkins’ Christmas concert was almost a carbon copy of last year’s, except the band was better tonight.
-
They did Duke Ellington’s Sugar Rum Cherry and the sax soloist got it this year. F—- the Fox News Network. This was America at its finest.
-
The same saxophonist had a tremendous solo on Silent Night that brought the house down.
-
People know what to expect and they brought it. It was a sold-out house that was hyper enthusiastic.
-
I ran into some friends who invited me out for a drink. I accepted.
-
They were good friends with the bartender.
-
He started by mixing up a dirty martini with Plymouth gin, which I like. But I saw that he had Botanist on the shelf, which I love.
-
So I asked him why he used Plymouth. It’s perfect for a dirty martini. Botanist is for a straight up.
-
So we all enjoyed our drinks. And talked. And out came some jalapeño potato chips, which went perfectly with the saltiness of the dirty martini.
-
Suddenly a glass of Ridge Zinfandel appeared. This is an old friend I can no longer afford.
-
Meanwhile, James the bartender (yes, we’re on a first-name basis) makes up some Botanist martinis for Gary and me, which were absolute perfection in another way.
-
That's really good! Thanks for sharing.
-
I’m home in one piece and still relatively sober. In 30 minutes or so, look out.
-
Gary was not. Thankfully his wife, Debbi, was driving.
-
She invited me to a tamalada in January. If you’ve ever made tamales by hand, you know how time consuming it is. But with a team, it can be fun. And full of gossip.
-
Have you heard of Brandon Lambert (https://m.youtube.com/@brandonmanwell)? He's a singer-songwriter-performer and wrote this version of "Für Elise (https://m.youtube.com/shorts/oxMnNErEzsI?si=izpRrH8G9DOSCUK5)." :))
CVS near me - they are literally out of everything I ordered this evening, so they do replacements that I don't want - you have to go into your order manually and select don't replace, but who remembers that?
I don't.
I do remember sky.
