Well, you've read the notes, the notes had a bluebird of happiness in them, and now it is time for you to post until the bluebird of happiness allows the cows to come home.
-
And the word of the day is: BESPOKE!
-
Notes enmeshed. Bespoken.
-
Golly, we were two posts from our 10th page when BK pulled the plug on yesterday.
-
Good morning, friends.
-
My plug has not been pulled.
-
Yet,
-
Did anyone have cream of rice for breakfast growing up?
-
Does anyone still have cream of rice for breakfast?
-
I wonder if the bluebird of happiness knows the titwlllow of despondence.
-
Good morning, all!
-
I had a terrible night of sleep. My left leg was in much discomfort, the room was too damned hot, and the woes go on and on.
-
I've been watching Season 5 of The Crown. Last night's simulation of the Bolshevick assassination of the Romanov family was more intense than I expected, but at least we were spared the brutality that was inflicted on the members of the royal family who were not killed by the bullets.
-
Today, a friend is bringing me a bootleg CD of the 2011 Ohio Light Opera production of Jubilee. I've aways been curious to hear exactly what the musical director did to my orchestrations since OLO always rescores their productions to fit their orchestra. So, with Jubilee, they cut the saxes, piano-celesta and guitar-banjo and added 2nd Flute, 2nd oboe, 2 bassoons, 2 horns, and 2nd trombone. When the Cleveland reviewer gave my orchestrations a poor review, I was fit to be tied.

Is it OK to type "titwillow" on a family site?
-

Woes-be-gone vibes for Larry, and leg discomfort be gone, too.
-
Almost a Princess Winnifred the Woebegone reference in honor of the show Larry's working on.
-
Princess Winnifred the Woebegone - another "Fred" that's better than the name Fred being associated with Fred Flintstone and Fred Mertz!

That sounds terrible, Larry!

Golly, we were two posts from our 10th page when BK pulled the plug on yesterday.
Then we should try to make it to page 10 today.
-
And if we don't get to page 10, at last we can say we tried!
-
It's not where you start, it's not where you finish, it's the journey along the way.
Hmm, that doesn't scan right.
-
Regarding BK's mention of Whitney Blake in the Notes -
Cissy Houston has said that she named her daughter Whitney Houston after Whitney Blake.
-
That is confirmed on Whitney Blake's wikipedia page.
-
Good morning, all.
-
With this cold and the meds I take at night to get some sleep, it’s an adventure. I do sleep, but I wake up a bunch of times throughout the night. At least the cold meds keep the nose running and coughing somewhat under control. And when I’m sick, the worst part of the day is the getting up and getting moving - such as it is.
But this morning I feel that positive upswing we always look for, and I know I’m heading in the right direction.
-
This has been a rough one, and more akin to the awful colds I’d get in my teens and twenties.
-
That sounds like terrific health recovery news, Chas!
-
Page 2 looks so close
-
It would be a shame to not just get there
-
Page 2!

Kitty cleanup is finished. I need to makethe bed, and my housework is finished for the day.

I am up after a night filled with dreams that I recall with much more clarity than usual.
I can account for the nature of the dreams, however.
-
In a half-awake moment before getting out of bed, my thoughts shifted to "Saltburn".
Someone (here or on Facebook?) had written that it has a hint of "The Talented Mr. Ripley", and indeed it does.
But this morning, it occurred to me that it has elements of Faulkner in its main character. There are some parallels to Ben Quick, the fire starting manipulator of Faulkner's stories, and Olliver Quick, the murderous manipulator of the film. And there seems to be a nod toward the story line of "The Long, Hot Summer" in that a stranger is introduced into a world that both embraces him and resists him...but he wins.
If this movie had been cast back in the late 1950s, I could easily see Paul Newman as Ben Quick, Joanne Woodward (or better yet, Lee Remick) as Elspeth Catton, Angela Lansbury as Venetia Catton, etc. Of course, nothing like this film could have been made in the late 1950s. The parallel doesn't exist for the patriarch so ably portrayed in "The Long, Hot Summer" by Orson Welles, but Richard E. Grant was quite excellent as Sir James Catton. I am also not sure about Duncan, the butler, but he had a "Lurch"-like quality.

Here we are, sitting on the next-to-last day of 2023.
It is definitely Saturday in Johnston, SC.
The only great news I can proclaim is that Third Generation will be open tomorrow for a New Year's Eve lunch, and that is very good news for me.
-
Bed made. I need to do some computer work for 2024. Then: Nap time!
-
Not to upset JRand, I will share one dream with you...but I KNOW why I dreamed it, so the Dream-O-Matic can be in rest mode for the remainder of the year:
I dreamed I was going to work (!) back in Oakland, but there were differences in where the food court was in my dream and where it was back in Oakland.
I was entering my office building and walked down a corridor to get a cup of coffee and a sweet roll. The young woman behind the counter I knew, but I have no name for her. When she presented me with my order, she said, "That's $6." My mind was telling me that prices had certainly gone up in the six years since I retired, but I opened my wallet and found I had only four singles. I asked her if I could use a debit card and she said no. She then poured the coffee down a drain and allowed the sweet roll to slide out of its paper bag and onto the floor.
I was dumbfounded that she had been so wasteful. She said she had to follow rules, to which I replied "But only YOU handled any of it."
She thought about that and then told me she could accept a debit card.
I awakened at that point absolutely appalled.
I immediately realized that the situation had a real-life application in that I had gone to The Triangle for lunch yesterday, but while I was waiting in a line, I checked my wallet to take out a $20. To my chagrin, I had only four singles. I started to leave to drive to the bank nearby to get some more cash when it occurred to me that they took debit cards. Happily, all worked out.
But that dream still had to happen, didn't it!!
-
Thank you for sharing that dream, Ron!
-
Vibes for Elmore
-
My breakfast is over! In addition to my morning coffee, I enjoyed two (count 'em 2) sausage biscuits.
-
I slept well for 10 hours
-
I remember no dreams but Vixdad claims I was singing in my sleep
-
Apparently not in English
-
I have a zoom in less than a half hour so I better get ready
-
Maybe I can squeeze in a quick Wordle
-
I find myself wondering if I need to go to the post office this morning. It closes at Noon on Saturdays and won't reopen until Tuesday.
I don't believe I am expecting anything, but that's usually when the unexpected arrives earlier than indicated in e-mails.
I have roughly eighty minutes to decide.

Glad to hear that DR JEANNE is back on the web!

Feel better vibes for DR ELMORE.

Very overcast today....and a high pollen warning.....but I knew that before I read it.
-
No I didn't buy a MegaMillions ticket - only a lowly Powerball ticket.

Can we get to page 3 before 11 a.m. Eastern?
-
That might please BK.
-
Page 3 before 11 a.m. Eastern
-
And it is before 11 a.m. Eastern even if the date stamp says it'snot.
-
I finished my computer work and took a bath. I feel quite refreshed at the moment.
-
Very nice dream, DR Ron Pulliam. I do believe, however, that even if you don't require use of the machine, it's nevertheless considered a nice politesse to drop DR Jrand73 a twenty when reporting a dream with your own analysis. Kind of like a corkage fee for bringing your own bottle to a fine restaurant.
-
I love "Memories" in Facebook. Today I reminded of the time in Hong Kong that an officer directed us to the line that said "This station is for deficients, disabled & elderly."
:))

Happy Birthday to former DR DakotaCelt!

From DR George:
I think it was the first time that I had seen Micheal act in a show.
I gather you have seen him many times since then.
-
Did anyone have cream of rice for breakfast growing up?
No, just Cream of Wheat.
-
Does anyone still have cream of rice for breakfast?
I don't think I have ever had it. I still have Cream of Wheat.

It turns out I was wrong about the piano; it's there but no celesta. The thythm section was two players: drums, marimba, vibes, temple blocks, chimes, bells, etc.

BTW I am still getting emails from Venmo and phony Venmo telling me that my account has been compromised and giving me lots of links to click.....which I never do.
And then I got an email from Venmo telling me that a transaction didn't go through and called me by a name I had never heard of.....I still didn't click.
After all of these emails, I always check my bank account online and nothing seems to be amiss.

MR BK I do not think you should abandon the contemplation on NYE.

I did go into the backyard earlier to water and appreciate the garden. Dozens of rose blooms are coming the bushes. The bougainvillea is deep red. The salvia has some purple. The pansies are multicolored, mostly purple or purple and white.

I had my 11 am zoom.which lasted until.a little after noon
-
Then , because I received s text from our cable provider telling us our main cable box would stop working in 2024 we disconnected it to bring to the store to exchange
-
Glendale's fifteen minutes if the traffic is light.
-
We decided to return tge bedroom box as well since we never use it
-
Did the Do shopping earlier. Ralph's parking lot was very full but I got lucky and got a space right near the doors.
-
Happily, they had all checkout lines open so once I had everything I got out of there in two minutes. I had a list to make sure I didn't forget anything. Unfortunately, I forgot to put two things on the list, so I'll either go back tonight so I don't have to go out tomorrow at all, or tomorrow when I get up. I'm thinking tonight. Stop at the mail place and see if either important envelope arrived.
-
When we arrived at the store there were 2 people working, both if whom.already had customers so we stood patiently behind tge couple who had arrived just before us.
-
Otherwise, I'll all set for Monday's Do.
-
While interesting, and great in the dark, I really don't like either lid up on a toilet ;D
Yes, but then you wouldn't have seen the "glow." :)
-
The guy employee left tge woman he was helping sitting st z counter while she was on z phone call and helped the people in front of us.
-
For 57 minutes
-
Yes, I was keeping track.
-
When we arrived at the store there were 2 people working, both if whom.already had customers so we stood patiently behind tge couple who had arrived just before us.
I sense a classic DR vixmom story coming on. :D
-
Meantime the1st customer was still.on a call at one of the counters
-
DR vixmom, when you win the Powerball tonight, the wait will seem insignificant.
-
And the woman employee was still working with the same customer as when we arrived
-
Finally the couple in front of us left but the rest of the people were still doing what they were doing
-
Waiting for the whippoorwill of satire.
-
And the cardinal of sarcasm.
-
All congregating at the bird feeder of abundance.
-
I was starting to think it was a reality TV show or something and they were just pretending to be busy to see how long we would wait before complaining
-
Where each birdseed is like a grain of wisdom.
-
Pretending to be Bush is the title of my next memoir.
-
But we can be patient people, so other than checking the time periodically and looking at one another we didnt say a word the whole time about the wait
-
It is a merry, madcap tale of confused identities.
-
Finally it was our turn.
-
Brits are famous for their ability to patiently queue.
-
The guy took back the main box and checked it in .
-
I like the word "queue."
-
Actually doing it, not so much.
-
Now go do that
voodoo queue
That you do so well.
-
We told him we wanted to just return the bedroom box, but he said it was not affected by the 2024 software changes and we could just use it instead of the main box.
-
We were finished with out transaction, including opening and closing pleasantries in about 7 minutes.
-
The other customers were still there
-
Im.still not fully convinced they were genuine customers
-
;D
-
Sorry it took so long, DR vixmom, but at least a happy ending, of sorts.
-
This is not my gingerbread house. But what I imagine mine will look like.
Not.
-
Then we went to the Texas roadhouse for lunch
-
Did anyone else grow up with this book? From 1963.
-
Long out of print, but now there is an exact facsimile copy available.
-
Cookys have less calories than cookies.
-
We "called ahead" on the way abd when we arrived were told to come right in.
-
We walked in and were immediately seated, despite there being a large group of people in the waiting area
-
I was a little surprised
-
Update to the list of Barack Obama's favorite movies of 2023 is that he had added "The Color Purple" to his list
https://www.broadwayworld.com/article/Barack-Obama-Places-THE-COLOR-PURPLE-Among-His-Favorite-Films-of-2023-Says-He-Loved-It-20231229
-
But when I saw a little later that they were all seated together I understood they needed to wait for.a larger table while we were easily sat bring only 2
-
So the lack.of wait made up for the cable place
-
The food and service were perfect
-
Cookys have less calories than cookies.
Even with cookies, if they're broken cookies, the calories apparently fly out.
-
Then we headed home.
-
So the lack.of wait made up for the cable place
That worked out well!
-
There were three boys about 11 or 12 years old riding three abreast down the middle of the rather busy road, with about 7 or 8 cars backed up behind them as the blocked the road
-
They were taking selfies and giving the finger to passing cars and the cars behind them
-
Even with cookies, if they're broken cookies, the calories apparently fly out.
Indeed.
-
When we arrived home I posted about them in our towns community FB page
-
If I listed Barack Obama's top 11 films list in 11 posts, that could get us to page 9 quickly.

We're on the slow boat to

All it takes is o e impaired driver or mechanical failure or an unexpected rock or something in thd goad before a tragedy can.occur.

We're on the slow boat to China page nine.
But we're getting there.
-
Oh, we are here.
-
Then I had yet another zoom with some other people.
-
The cable box seems to be working fine
-
Sometimes there's page 9 so slowly but surely.
-
And don't call me Shirley.
-
Ba-dum-bum.
-
Oh, we are here.
Or should that be here we are? (a Sondheim reference)
-
I need to forage for groceries tomorrow.
-
And don't call me Shirley.
:)

Or should that be here we are? (a Sondheim reference)
When I read your post, I was thinking that!
-
I hope the supermarket won't be too crazy.
-
But one never knows.

Do one?

I'm with DR Ron Pulliam. Not going to make any resolutions.

Some wag wrote, "I'm not making any more resolutions. It's time for the years to be better; not me."

Arch. Very arch.

Arch. Very arch.
Eyebrow and lowbrow.

The Kennedy Center Honors tributes this year were surprisingly moving.
-
The Dick Van Dyke 98th birthday tribute was thin in parts, but still fun. God love him.

Those are only Indiana rules. I live in South Carolina!

Tonight I watched a most wonderful true life murder mystery.
The setting is County Essex England, and the title is "The Murders at White House Farm", a 2020 production now showing on Max.
The murders were of a family: A father, mother, daughter and two grandsons. The police chief was resolute that this was a murder-suicide committed by the daughter who had mental problems. The grandsons were the daughter's children.
An adopted son reported that something bad was happening at the family farm, and that set into motion a sloppy investigation that one Detective Sergeant would not drop despite threats by his superiors.
True story. Six parts. Chilling.

Good night, friends.

Good night, friends.
Nighty night!

I.hope their parents see it and do something to stop this behavior before they're injured or cause an injury or car accident.
I hope someone can get their license plate number and post that, too.

From the garden today

And this:

I met one resolution tonight. I learned the Electric Slide. Still need to learn the Footloose line dance.
-
And finished Michael Cunningham’s new novel, Day, which I liked much better than The Hours.
-
That was my 153rd book of the year, not counting two of the three times that I read Kritzer World and the same with Preview Harvey.
-
The other customers were still there
Oh, my! :o After all that time??
-
Sorry it took so long, DR vixmom, but at least a happy ending, of sorts.
Agreed! :-\
-
This is not my gingerbread house. But what I imagine mine will look like.
Not.

Wow! That's quite the festive image!

The food and service were perfect
That's great, Vixmom!

Cookys have less calories than cookies.
Even with cookies, if they're broken cookies, the calories apparently fly out.
Of course!

Egrets, I've had a few...

Two hours later and what ever happened to Baby George?
-
He just disappeared into the ether.
-
He's not even logged onto this board.
-
Perhaps he's stuffing his face with free tacos.
-
Or on TikTok, which no one should be on.
-
The one thing we know is - he ain't here.
-
No sign of him.
-
Gone with the wind.
-
Without a trace.
-
Perhaps he's in The Twilight Zone.
