Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke of the day and the Q&A, and now it is time for you to post until the Q&A cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: LARGESS!
-
Notes empaneled. Requisitioned.
-
The last time we were under 8 pages of posts was Dec. 15.
-
Timmy can you use “largess” in a sentence?
“Yes, teacher. I saw a very largess on the Superior Heating billboard I passed on the way to school.”
-
For you fans of The Manhattan Transfer (like me) here's...
The Manhattan Transfer...last song...final concert...ever... (12/15/23) (https://www.youtube.com/live/Mo_MDGWJOb0?si=xYz5A_CJsSydyl7O)

That clip doesn't show the whole song. This one posted by someone else at a different angle does:
Manhattan Transfer closes final concert with "Birdland" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YILHvdUmSzo)
-
Ended up writing six more pages.
-
Good morning, friends.
-
I may miss the beginning of the Q&A, but I will get there as soon as I can.
-
Good morning from the LIRR
-
It was a fun weekend but now to work
-
Maybe a wordle
-
Good morning, all!
-
I slept quite poorly. Too restless, too many aches, too warm, and possibly too quiet. The snow has left the city quieter than usual.

There was none at 33rd Street!

Timmy can you use “largess” in a sentence?
“Yes, teacher. I saw a very largess on the Superior Heating billboard I passed on the way to school.”
"And I saw a largess on Superman's chest!"
-
I slept very well again.
Nothing new to report on the dream front.
It is definitely Monday, January 8th, 2024, here in Johnston SC.
I heard it on the radio.
-
The pending/looming Zoom chat seems like it might be fun.
I know this: I shan't be driving home from work at 5 p.m.

I have some parcels or packages to pick up from the post office. I stopped in yesterday and found three cards telling me some things larger than regular mail were being held for me. And this morning, my Amazon Echo unit notified me that another package has been delivered.
I may need to drive my truck.
-
Truthfully, I know what has arrived and it is mostly packaging and air rather than content.
-
More modern major miracle vibes for BK!
-
And that is something I usually find only in bags of potato chips.
-
Good morning, DR Freddie!
-
I'm going to get us off this page.
-
Even if it takes this one final post.

Just me and one guest now. Sigh.

Good morning, DR Freddie!
Good morning, DR Ron!

Good morning, all.
-
I just watched - and fast-fowarded through - my DVR of the Golden Globes. I missed the first 20 minutes, AND the last however many minutes since the DVR didn't record the overtime. I'll have to catch those parts online somewhere.
What a dismal show, in so many respects. I used to ENJOY this one in all its drunken hilarity. And I was immediately reminded of what the Tonys and the writers strike taught us last year: the one thing writers should NEVER work on again? Awards shows. This one should get writers FIRED.
But I couldn't take most of the people, either. I've never fast-forwarded through so many bits.
Maybe later I'll tell you how I really feel.
-
Well, I've got some stuff to do.
Later.
And see yuz all on Zoom this evening!
-
Good morning, all.
-
Tummy problems this morning. Interfered with sleep. So did falling rain and wind.
-
High winds are expected through the day.
-
Gershwin is great, but I don’t have the emotional connection to his work the way I do when I hear Porter, Kern or Rodgers and Hart. Still, I love:
Summertime

Kickin’ the Clouds Away
The Man I Love
Love Is Here to Stay
-
DR vixmom, at this point, the snow is either slush or melted. I just ran into my neighbor Brian on the elevator. He had been outside walking his beautiful German Shepherd Kiko in sandals.
-
Last night Annabelle and I watched Bros, the first mainstream film to crash and burn as a gay romcom. I thought it was outrageously funny, full of sick humor, and a complete hoot. The romantic leads are played by Billy Eichner, who co-wrote the screenplay, and Luke MacFarlane, star of multiple Hallmark movies and body by Michelangelo. DR Jrand73's favorite Will & Grace star, along with Kristen Chenowith and Harvey Fierstein, have funny cameo appearances, and the Hallmark movie jokes are frequent.
Amanda Bearse of Married With Children played MacFarlane's mother, and I kept thinking the actor playing his father looked awfully familiar. It was my friend George Dvorsky!
-
LOL DR ELMORE - I think my favorite part of that movie is the meeting at the non-profit where everyone is lobbying for his/her group......and of course nothing gets done.
-
Modern Major Miracle vibes for MR BK.
-
Last night I was corrected MULTIPLE times about information on Francis (!) Farmer in a Facebook discussion that I was invited to.
So if anyone asks you what her mother's name is - remember her FIRST name was Cora even though she was called Lillian by her family.....I've never seen so many birth certificates, marriage licenses, and funeral information......
-
Is the Golden Globes category for Cinematic and Box Office Achievement just an award for the highest grossing movie that also happened to be considered good?
-
I’m doing my dissertation on Frances Farmer’s Armistice Day visit to the Columbia Club in Indianapolis, particularly on the unorthodox place-setting the waitstaff arrayed at her table and the potential meaning(s) of this vis-a-vis her relationship with her mother.
-
Then I’m making that whole sequence into a musical.

Topic of the Day: I don't think I have a "favorite" Gershwin melody (or song, for that matter. I've pretty much enjoyed everyone that I've heard.

I really liked the movie, too, but Billy sure did do a lot of speechifyin'. ::)
But I did enjoy the speeches.

And I recognized Amanda Bearse and George Dvorsky, too!

That's great, Jane!

DR RODZINSKI you would fit right in on the FB thread.

I am at last finished with the closet clean up.
Started in October - finished today. I threw away 36 trash bags of STUFF!
And tomorrow I will need something I threw away.

Billy plays an over-the-top neurotic New Yorker, the complete opposite of outwardly stable out-of-town Luke MacFarlane. There were many in the New York City Gay Men's Chorus.

Finishing up Anne Tyler’s Dinner at the Homesick Restaurant. It’s an earlier work of hers that I somehow missed. Loved it.
I loved her novel and the movie of "The Accidental Tourist". I saw the movie first, and then I bought a book of her stories.
A day before my ship, USS Kitty Hawk, was to visit Hong Kong, I wrote an article for the ship's newspaper with the headline "The Occidental Tourist" and gave out tips for dos and don'ts while in a foreign port, stressing cultural differences.

That was the first of her novels I read. It’s not my favorite. I think I like the movie more. But I have liked all of her books, except for her update of Taming of the Shrew, the title of which I have purposefully forgotten.

Were you given information on the local laws and customs to help you with your article?

I am impressed with the talent of this two year old. It seems he has inherited a bit of talent from his father, David Foster. Ridiculous is the story that caught my attention. Apparently instead of focusing on the kid and father in the video, the father was attacked for abandoning his adult daughters ::)
Scroll down on the link to find the video. https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/david-foster-daughter-defends-him-182001515.html

Some interesting information in this YouTube about Lucille Ball and clashes with Richard Burton and Dean Martin.

The stuff about Vivian Vance and Desi Arnaz seemed like stuff I'd heard before.

And the two year old drummer's mom is Katharine McPhee of "American Idol" and "Smash" and "Scorpion" fame.
Amazing that someone tried to turn that into a negative story on David Foster!

Even if it was true the video was not about that. People should get their facts straight before commenting. I did a quick google and saw lots of photos of him with his adult children.

I liked the daughter's answer that she'd just spoken with her dad five minutes ago!

So did I :)

I have found the shirt I will be ZOOMing in this evening.
-
It's black tie tonight, no?
-
I'm up, I'm up - nine hours of sleep.
-
I was intending to get up at eleven, but it was one-thirty.
-
I futzed and finessed and sent the first batch of 114 pages to Muse Margaret.
-
Now I must get myself together and presentable for our Q&A.
-
Looking forward to it!
-
Have a good Q&A.
-
Slow posting day.
-
I managed to get three things done and a dance lesson. I feel I was overproductive.
-
I also got to the library, which had a great many movies to pick up.
-
They seem to all come in at once.
-
Slow posting day.
It is about to get slower with fewer posters during the Q&A.
-
I also got the cast album for The Time Traveler's Wife, which has a score partially by Dave Stewart of the Eurhythmics.
-
He wrote the score for Ghost, which is one of the blandest scores I have ever heard.
-
This is worse.
-
Gratuitous post 101!

Fifteen minutes. This is your fifteen minute call.

I managed to get three things done and a dance lesson. I feel I was overproductive.

Thank you fifteen.
What does "Thank you fifteen" mean?
-
Is that for the 15 minute call?
-
Six minutes to Zoom. Already about ten people in the waiting room.

Any way to reach page 5 before the Q&A?
-
I'm in my place, dammit. Did they call places?

I think I'm in the waiting room.

I found this article about the difficulty of trying to explain one is from Vancouver, Washington. Apparently the t-shirt I own, like the sweatshirt shown, became popular just before the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, B.D.
https://brieflynoted.tumblr.com/post/288436344/vancouver-not-bc-washington-not-dc-clark

I had originially planned to purchase the sweatshirt but couldn't find it in my size.

An interesting Zoom chat! Enjoyed it.
-
But we must get to page 5

before BK sees it's still page 4

An interesting Zoom chat! Enjoyed it.
Really a most excellent Q&A!
-
And Jane - believe it or not, Bruce mentioned Katharine McPhee's mother during the Q&A!
-
Jane herself was mentioned!
-
It's now proven - One CAN be on HHW and at the BK Q&A at the same time!

Which Jane?

To my shock we are having popcorn again tonight.
-
That was a fine chat, everyone.
-
Jane herself was mentioned!
Yes, she was!
-
So much fun! Thanks to all who were there. Where elmore was is anyone's guess. Perhaps he's having one of his occasional snits about me, although I can't imagine what that would be about. He should have been there and I'll just leave it at that.
-
Page five seems a little light.
-
You, Jane.
-
Must go get food.
-
Great discussion. Loved the 70, Girls, 70 stories. Sounds like something I'm glad I wasn't a part of, though I would have loved to have seen it.
-
You, Jane.
Interesting. I can't imagine what was said ;D
-
Or should I fear what was said ;)
-
'night
-
The question was posed if any HHW folk show up in the Kritzer books, and you were the example.
-
And Jane - believe it or not, Bruce mentioned Katharine McPhee's mother during the Q&A!
FWIW, Katherine was runner-up to Taylor Hicks in the 5th season of "American Idol".
-
An interesting Zoom chat! Enjoyed it.
It was, and I did, too...once I showed up.
-
Wish I hadn't had to leave early.
-
But rehearsal is going well.
-
One of the plays was a bit wonky for me because I have a slightly different script from the actors and the stage manager! :o
-
That will be rectified tomorrow.
-
Great discussion. Loved the 70, Girls, 70 stories. Sounds like something I'm glad I wasn't a part of, though I would have loved to have seen it.
As difficult as the production was, I would have enjoyed being a part of it. :)
-
And now, act two!
-
One of the plays was a bit wonky for me because I have a slightly different script from the actors and the stage manager! :o
How does that work?
-
Watching Hitchcock’s last silent film, a romantic drama called The Manxman.
-
The leading lady, Anny Ondra, was Czech. She’s absolutely gorgeous. But she couldn’t survive the transition to sound.
-
Six!
-
Hitchcock cast her in Blackmail. Halfway through, it was decided to make that movie a talkie. Her accent was bad, an actress had to stand behind the camera and read her lines in sync, so it could be captured. Britain didn’t have dubbing capabilities then.
-

How does that work?
Cuts were made in the (public domain) texts, but the lighting designer got an early version.
-
The winds here have been vicious all day. And they will continue until 5 am.
-
I hope I can sleep tonight.
-
Good night, all.
-
Raining so hard here. And high winds coming overnight.
-
Don’t have any trees that can fall on my house. But plenty in the area that could knock out power to our town.
-
The good news is the garage door repairman came today to fix the damage I inflicted a couple months back. So one car is safely inside for the night.
-
Ginny is probably dancing on air tonight.
-
Her Michigan Wolverines are kings of the college football world.

Here is Hitchcock teasing Anny Ondra in a screen test.

-
It was good to see familiar faces on the zoom bash.
-
The 70 Girls stories were anxiety-inducing. It’s amazing the show came off at all, but actually was a success!
-
Scheduling conflicts and missing actors were my least favorite part of working on shows.
-
But you always have to compromise to get the best cast possible.
-
Just an insane amount of heavy sustained rain right now. We live on a hill at least.
-
I’m just blathering…
-
But it is blather with purpose.
-
The purpose is to get us to page 7.
-
To give us a shot at page 8.
-
It is raining even harder now.
-
Our roof is metal so I can hear every drop.
-
What else can I tell you?
-
Anny Ondra married Max Schmelling.
-
They were married until she died in 1987.
-
So sayeth Wikipedia.
-
I fixed a misbehaving toilet today.

Ain’t misbehaving. Saving my love for…

Well, 6 guests, I’ve carried you as far as I can.

You guests just sit there guesting, you feed off our energy, and you contribute nothing. Come out of the shadows, you! Reveal yourselves!
-
Fave Gershwin, maybe Bidin’ My Time.
-
Because that’s the kind of guy I’m.
-
However hard I said it was raining before, it is raining now 3x harder.
-
Raining so hard here. And high winds coming overnight.
It's been raining here most of the evening, but not very hard.
-
The lights here in my house, however, have blinked a couple of times...but it's been more than a half hour since the last one.
-
Don’t have any trees that can fall on my house. But plenty in the area that could knock out power to our town.
Ditto about the trees!
-
I do live right across the street from the fire station and city hall, so hopefully the power won't go off.
-
The good news is the garage door repairman came today to fix the damage I inflicted a couple months back. So one car is safely inside for the night.
Very nice. I've only had my garage available (and working) for the last year, but it's definitely nice to have it.
-
Ginny is probably dancing on air tonight.
Her Michigan Wolverines are kings of the college football world.
Congrats to Ginny and the Michigan Wolverines!
