Well, you've read the notes, the notes are at the end of the tunnel with the light, and now it is time for you to post until the light cows come home.

Well, I could slog on and try to finish the book but I don't want to stay up until five or six. so I'll finish it tomorrow when I'm fresh. I did write forty pages, which may be a record, although I know I've at least done close to that in the final lap.

DR JohnG, Bartlett Sher's South Pacific was wonderful, his Fiddler on the Roof could have been better, and he made the same mistake with My Fair Lady that everyone now does with Candide: My Fair Lady is not Shaw's Pygmalion, and the comic operetta Candide is not Voltaire's. I satill cannot explain the drag queens in "Get Me To the Church on Time" any more than I can explain why Eliza tells Higgins at his mother's home that she will never see him again before running back to Higgins' house to walk out again.

Been thinking of San Diego. It's been about 25 years since I was there. Loved going to the beach at the Coronado Hotel, which had been used as a backdrop for one of my favorite movies about movies, The Stunt Man.

I always loved the hotel.  I kind of stayed there.  My parents stayed there and put my brother, sister, & I in a motel in the town.  From breakfast until after dinner we were at the hotel.

My sister & I shared a room while my brother was next door.  Typical of my sister, she wanted to go out late at night when we should have been going to sleep.  Never one to say no to my sister I just made enough noise so my brother heard us, came out of his room and ordered back into our room.  Since he was in charge, and he would have told on her, she listened.

Then it was the belated birthday meal at BJ's in Burbank. I had a lunch special - one smallish fried chicken breast in country gravy, mashed potatoes and some corn thing. It was really good. I also had a cup of clam chowder. It really wasn't that much food, but boy was I full. Then it was their famous pizzookie, chocolate chip. I could only manage half of it. I feel ever so disgusting right now.

The first time I ever had spinach fettuccine was on a date with Keith at Andre's of Beverly Hills restaurant.  They served us each a little bowl of it with a marinara sauce.

I remember Andre’s!

Here’s a fun story, not written by me.

“The only real memory I have of the Beverly Hills Andre’s was one time my family was there, dining with some wealthy friends who were paying. We were waiting for the valet to bring us our car for a fee roughly equal to the cost of a complete lasagna dinner at the other Andre’s. Suddenly, about six limousines converged on the place, and official-looking men jumped out and began clearing the way for the passenger from one. It was Robert Kennedy. I waved to him and he waved back.”

The first time that I had that linguine with seafood dish was at Carmine’s on Santa Monica Blvd.
We loved that restaurant.
It’s just up the street from the enormous Mormon Temple.

I spent many a winter there with my aunt and uncle, who rented a place at Coronado Shores for 4 months, just to get away from Baltimore.
Such a charming town.

I am referring to the fancy restaurant vs the quick one that is still there.  They simply gave you a fettuccine, maybe when they served a plate of bread.

Jane, you have a great memory.
I found this article when I was going through my favorite L.A. restaurants.

“It was so long ago when a date took me to Andre’s fine dining on a date, then considered “the” place in Beverly Hills, all I remember – as though it was yesterday – was the ritual and what I was wearing (A “little black dress” with matching short jacket lined in teal, and high heels, of course.  But, ah, what impressive ritual!   First to arrive was the huge platter of antipasti— then a salad – then spinach noodles with red sauce – then the entrée.”

Keith took me to Andre's a number of times, and then we stopped going there on dates as his parents began taking both of us there.  The wait staff was just as nice to us at seventeen as they were when we went with his parents.
