Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke of finishing the book 25, and now it is time for you to post until the 25 cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: UNFETTERED!
-
Congrats again, BK, on finishing the new book!

I have not seen many films this year.
-
Hello, George!
-
Good night, George! 😊😴
-
I have not seen many films this year.
I think I've seen one new movie this year. :-\
-
Maybe two, but definitely not three!
-
Hello, George!
Hello, Iris!
-
Good night, George! 😊😴
Good night, Irene...I mean, Iris!
;)
-
Sorry I missed you!
-
Good morning, friends.

-
So get baking, DR John G. :)

CONGRATULATIONS to BK on 25 books. Wow! Quite an accomplishment.

Good morning, all!
-
I did not sleep well. Once again, we have no heat in the apartment, no rattle of the radiator, and I hate getting out of bed on a cold morning without any sign of heat.
-
Sad news about the flooding in San Diego. Around 1988, I spent six weeks there working on a musical for the Gaslamp Quarter Theatre. The show was a mess, but I loved San Diego.
-
The best friend chicken I’ve ever eaten was made by Freddie’s DH , Skip.
The man is a magician in the kitchen and everything he makes is delicious, but I dream (seriously) about his fried chicken.

JINKS, Vixmom! ;D
-
I posted literally one second after you.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Two!
-
The nominations are coming in. Lots of love for Barbie, Oppenheimer and Maestro in smaller categories.
-
I’m not surprised that John Williams picked ip a nomination for best score. But Variety had it way down on their list.
-
Lots of love for Killers of the Flower Moon and Poor Things
-
No best director for Greta Gerwig or Bradley Cooper.
-
No love for Asteroid City on visuals or script.
-
Let the griping begin.
-
I like my mom's fried chicken.....
But I usually don't order it when I go out. The Colonel's chicken is fine.....but all fired chicken is so messy to eat......
-
I shall now go to peruse the AA nominations.
-
I have seen three of the nominated films.....so that's something.
I did enjoy OPPENHEIMER and THE HOLDOVERS.
I suppose - since I wasn't nominated - my wishes would be Giamatti for Best Actor, RDJ for Best Supporting Actor, and for song "I'm Just Ken" which was my favorite part of the Barbie movie.
-
Good morning.
-
It rained a lot this morning but the temps stayed above freezing so the roads in this area do not seem to be a problem
-
TOD:
The very best fried chicken I have ever had was cooked by my Mom Every time!
She always bought a small chicken. She preferred a 2-pounder. She cut it up herself.
She removed as much skin as possible.
She soaked it overnight in buttermilk.
She would drain it, and then she would salt and pepper it.
Next, she took a paper bag, filled it with Bisquick, and put several pieces of chicken inside and shook it vigorously.
She did all the pieces that way.
She used an electric skillet and Canola oil.
She had an innate sense of how hot the oil should be to initially brown the chicken and then to reduce the heat to let it cook through.
That chicken was always perfection.
No, I have never managed to attain the level of perfection her chicken always had.
-
Excellent night of sleep!
I love this trend.
Lots to do today, but we shall see, we shall see.
The Oscar nominations are of passing interest only for me.
Am shocked that a sub-par Indiana Jones score received a nomination.
However, given John Williams' age and impressive fortitude, I expect it's a "respect" nomination.
I was shocked at no acting nominations for "Saltburn", which surely should have received a supporting actress nomination.
The "Barbie" conundrum continues: America Ferrera for supporting actress? She made no impression on me at all as an award-worthy participant. I like her a lot, but not that performance in particular.
Ryan Gosling for supporting actor? Playing Ken? Will wonders never cease?
Oh, well.
-
Good morning, all.
-
I must go read all the nominations.
In the meantime, if DR Jrand73 really somehow got skipped over this year, my hat (or even the fez) is off to him for gracefully endorsing another candidate - like the gentleman we have always known him to be.
-
I just moved a couple of upcoming dental checkups and cleanings to later dates. What with the cataract surgeries and all, this is an intense time period for appointments, and something had to give.
-
I feel relieved for having done that.
And hey - (HEY!!!) - tomorrow the second eye gets done!
I really can't wait till tomorrow evening or Thursday morning to see the difference this time.
-
I fell asleep again.
-
When I read The Mango Kings Play Songs of Love, there was so much about how to make fried chicken in it that I had to try it myself. It's too much work for one person, but I loved that batch.
-
Mom used Crisco or Wesson. I can't remember, but her chicken was excellent. I also love fried chicken from has stations out in the middle of nowhere.
-
I may prefer roast chicken with a buttery, crackly skin, but fried chicken is right up there.
-
I had Chinese style crispy spicy chicken yesterday. It's notes of fried chicken with a host of fried red peppers and scallions. There's a marked taste of coriander in the seasoning.
-
I'm hungry.
-
My Mom also used Crisco from a can not a bottle......
-
The best friend chicken I’ve ever eaten was made by Freddie’s DH , Skip.
The man is a magician in the kitchen and everything he makes is delicious, but I dream (seriously) about his fried chicken.
That's great! I'll read that to Skip!
-
DR singdaw, my friend Jamie Rocco now lives in St Paul. Have you by any chance run into him? If so, tell him hello for me. I've known him since our days of working with Ben Bagley.
-
No best director for Greta Gerwig or Bradley Cooper.
But both of them did get writing nominations, which I guess was expected.
-
In honor of pie day, this will be made later. It was an easy choice as I have all the ingredients on hand.

Dense fog advisory in effect until noon. It’s gray out there.
-
I just received an email from someone who knows me, but I have no clue as to who he is. Strange.
-
Three!
-
Maybe he is a fan of your food writing.
-
My brother is coming over in a bit so that we can get him signed up for Medicare....at least that's the plan.
-
My other brother's knee replacement surgery is over and he is in recovery!
-
It is now 39 degrees. I went to Burger King and got my Family Bundle.....or did I already write about that?
-
I just finished writing about the 2024 season and posted all the links and got it on the website and a link to both Facebook pages.
In about five minutes, I'll get an email about tickets.
-
It is now 39 degrees. I went to Burger King and got my Family Bundle.....or did I already write about that?
Having Burger King on reserve in the fridge sounds wonderful.
-
So yesterday I went to work, left the office about 515
-
Went to visit WFO and stayed until about 7
-
Then went to my Mom's to help her fill in some property tax reduction paperwork and set up her digital picture frame ( a gift from the Vixter and Vixhubby)
-
I finally got home around 930 pm
-
Thank goodness I had left over shepherds pie and gravy
-
I don't usually like to reheat dinners in the microwave but last night I made the exception and we finally ate dinner around 10 pm
-
I was pretty exhausted by time the kitchen was cleaned abd went go bed
-
And SLEPT
-
I'm up, I'm up - almost eight hours of sleep.
-
I'll go check out the nominations.
-
In honor of pie day, this will be made later.
Oh, I'm so glad you are participating, DR John G. And thanks for the recipe.
-
DR elmore3003 - I didn't know of your connection with J. Rocco. I did meet him some years back. Talented guy.
-
And he just friended me on FB! I've passed along your greeting.
-
:)
-
I had missed the news about San Diego. I am glad to see that Legoland is still open.
-
No love for Asteroid City on visuals or script.
Works for me ;D
-
I have seen three of the nominated films.....so that's something.
I suppose I should listen to the song. I vote for your other two top choices.
-
Good morning.
Hello. What is your weather today?
-
I feel relieved for having done that.
And hey - (HEY!!!) - tomorrow the second eye gets done!
I really can't wait till tomorrow evening or Thursday morning to see the difference this time.
Continued vibes!
-
I just received an email from someone who knows me, but I have no clue as to who he is. Strange.
Are you sure he really knows you-lol
-
My other brother's knee replacement surgery is over and he is in recovery!
Excellent. Healing vibes to him.
-
Then went to my Mom's to help her fill in some property tax reduction paperwork and set up her digital picture frame ( a gift from the Vixter and Vixhubby)
I expect she will enjoy your scrolling photos.

TOD: What is the absolute best fried chicken you’ve ever had?
Well, I have never had fried chicken that I found to be OMG incredibly good. The reason is that my family had a woman that worked for us on Mondays. Monday's I would return home to the smell of dinner cooking. She alternated between three dishes, Oxtail stew, spareribs, and fried rabbit.
If we had guests for dinner on friend rabbit day we learned to tell them it was fried chicken or they would freak out. They ALWAYS said it was by far the best fried chicken they ever had.
My OMG, indredibly good, best fried chicken was actually fried rabbit cooked by an incredibly good cook.
-
And he just friended me on FB! I've passed along your greeting.
I didn't know he had relocated. In the early 1980s, he lived on the Upper West Side with Albert Evans, as I recall. I went to a party with Ben Bagley's friends at their apartment one night and a very drunk Michael Feingold chased me around the apartment all night. I think he was the only person ever to chase me around an apartment!
-
FOUR!
-
I learned today that a friend from the New York City Gay Men's Chorus, Ted Bloecher, died recently at the age of 94. Ted had been in the Broadway and touring casts of My Fair Lady, Half A Sixpence, and Hello, Dolly!, among others. In this photo, he's the man in the straw hat at the right side of the photo. Ted was also a huge UFO enthusiast and a very funny man with a sharp, quick wit./ I haven't seen him in years, but he's always been one of my favorite people in the Chorus.

Now THAT'S a terrific fried chicken story!

Thanks Freddie.

Chasing you to talk to you or to go out with you?
-
The next best "fried" chicken was from the place on Ventura Blvd, down the street from our apartment on Ventura Canyon, in Studio City. I'm sure Bruce remembers the Broasted Chicken place there.
-
Amber's!
-
Oscar noms. As expected, not a single nomination for Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret, for the simple reason that no Academy members watched it. A movie isn't at 99% rave reviews for no reason. Disgusting. Otherwise, I think we can all pretty much call the winners right now. And I hate TEN movies for best picture. Why not just nominate twenty or thirty? It's time for the Oscars to go away, frankly. They're a joke. Interesting that neither Maestro or Barbie got a best director nod. Neither deserves it, but it's surprising nonetheless.
-
Made pasta for food.
-
Fwied Wabbit?
-
Thanks DR JANE we have good taste in nominees.
If you're going to see the Ken number - watch the movie clip....it's really very funny to see all the Kens lamenting their sad lives...very well done and the choreography is a lampoon of all the recent movie and music video dancing.....or maybe it's NOT a lampoon
-
My brother had a stack of letters and cards and notices about an inch thick that he had been receiving.
I sorted through them and found that he is indeed going to start receiving his Medicare on March 1. His Medicare card was in the best envelope! Since he doesn't qualify for "extra" help and did want to opt out of anything - the rest left the building.
Then I talked to him about his prescriptions and his doctor and which hospital he always went to. And he said IU HEALTH. So I went to their website and clicked on "Medicare Advantage Plans" put in his zip code and county......and chose him a nice MAP with no monthly premium that should cover his needs well....and includes a few extra dental/eye/hearing benefits he may need someday.
Filled out the application and submitted it and it was accepted, so we shall see what the future brings.
I'm assuming his CareSource will end when Medicare starts.
-
Dense Fog warnings for my area tonight and tomorrow.
-
Yes DR FREDDIE it is a comfort to have a few Whoppers & Fries in the fridge.
-
DR ELMORE I am sorry to hear about your friend.....he looks like he is having a lot of fun in Hello, Dolly!
-
As for being chased around the apartment - I think I remember what that was like.....but we could have both been just trying to find the bathroom.
-
In honor of pie day, this will be made later.
Oh, I'm so glad you are participating, DR John G. And thanks for the recipe.
It’s in the oven now. Smells wonderful.
-
Dense Fog warnings for my area tonight and tomorrow.
Dense fog warnings for my brain.
-
As for being chased around the apartment - I think I remember what that was like.....but we could have both been just trying to find the bathroom.
I was very fond of Michael Feingold, a wonderful writer and critic, but no one wanted to be near him when he was drunk and no one was safe. I last saw him at a party to view a documentary on the last living Ziegfeld show girl. He was sober, and I gave him a copy of my recording of Dearest Enemy. He died too young.
-
Looks like a nice guy.
-
I just received an email from someone who knows me, but I have no clue as to who he is. Strange.
Are you sure he really knows you-lol
It mentioned ballroom dancing and trips to Greece.
-
Now I'm not going to say anything or start rumors.....but my guess is that if Bradley "wrote" any of MAESTRO, I wrote some of MAESTRO.
-
I feel relieved for having done that.
And hey - (HEY!!!) - tomorrow the second eye gets done!

My condolences, Larry. But 94 years sounds like a good long run.
-
Now I'm not going to say anything or start rumors.....but my guess is that if Bradley "wrote" any of MAESTRO, I wrote some of MAESTRO.
Should we start a write-in campaign?

Is that like in the song "to love pure and chased from afar"

Is this page 5?

Yes, page 5!
-
Is this page 5?
Why, yes, it is, Freddie! ;D

So, I'm reading Don Quixote, and I'm now on chapter 35, which is page 305 (according to my Kindle), but it also days that I'm still only 32% of the way through! :o

Everyone should go to you to help set up their Medicare.

But I just realized that this Kindle version includes the Second Part of the Ingenious Gentleman Don Quixote of La Mancha, which is a completely separate book, so I'm really further along in the original book than I thought. :)

This morning Keith dropped me off to have blood work done. Once I was done I walked over to the gym and used the treadmill. The sidewalks were nice and clear and ice free :)

It has been a year since I did my last A1C and I am very nervous about the results. It will be my fault if they are bad.

Before walking into the building I was able to check into the lab by texting. In about five minutes my name was called, which was a relief as there were lots of people in the waiting room. It pays to make an appointment first.

I didn't realize/remember this. I read it a long time ago all in one substantial sized book. I don't think we have our copy any more to look at it.

I thought it was about time I read The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. While I am enjoying it I don't know if I will read the second book. Neither is very long.
-
Had a call from Muse Margaret - she still has about fifty pages to go, but she wants to do them tomorrow. I knew it would probably be too many pages to read in one sitting. She did have about three small excisions she wanted me to make and she was right about all three and I basically knew she'd ask for them - but I wanted to write it the way I did just so I could get it on paper, but excising it was simple as pie and that's done. I also know there's one more sequence she'll get to in thirty pages and I think I mentioned this in the notes, where I've already marked the cuts I know she'll want. I'm glad I wrote it as I did and I wanted her to read it, but I was so confident she'd want the cuts that I pre-made them.
-

Or the third or fourth. But thanks for all the fish.

Finishing up Your Table Is Ready. I grew to really like the book. It has hilarious stories about Trump, the Shah, Anna Winotur, Leo DiCaprio and more.

LOL are you suggesting I continue reading all of the books?

I'm sure some of you have heard the old joke about Leonard Bernstein.
This goes back to the time when he was the Music Director of the NY Philharmonic.
Two matrons are standing outside Lincoln Center, looking at one of the marquees.
The first woman says, "Have you heard that Leonard Bernstein might be GAY?"
The second woman replies, "My! Is there ANYTHING that man can't do?"
-

The opposite. I gave up after three. This was back in college. I was not amused.
-
I spent too much time today assembling a standing desk. It works beautifully.
-
I am starting Past Lives. This will be the fourth best picture nominee I have seen. Surprisingly I want to see the remaining six, especially Anatomy of a Fall, American Fiction and The Zone of Interest.
-
The pie was just delicious. Probably undercooked. It was a little runny. But that didn’t bother my taste buds one bit.
-
The great broadcaster Charles Osgood has died. For my friend Carol, the CBS Sunday Morning show was her worship services. She got me to watch it, and he really knew how to hold your attention. And without seeming to try. I am sure he worked hard, but he was so natural, so empathic.

I thought it was about time I read The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. While I am enjoying it I don't know if I will read the second book. Neither is very long.
Or the third or fourth. But thanks for all the fish.
LOL are you suggesting I continue reading all of the books?
The opposite. I gave up after three. This was back in college. I was not amused.
I am amused, however, at this point not enough to continue reading the stories.
-
I spent too much time today assembling a standing desk. It works beautifully.
Will there be a photo?
-
The great broadcaster Charles Osgood has died. For my friend Carol, the CBS Sunday Morning show was her worship services. She got me to watch it, and he really knew how to hold your attention. And without seeming to try. I am sure he worked hard, but he was so natural, so empathic.
:(

We are still waiting for the alarm test. Having my hearing aids out isn't as bad as Keith wanting his earplugs out.
-
Is that like in the song "to love pure and chased from afar"
;D
-
Congratulations on your new standing desk, DR John G. Enjoy it in good health.
-
I bought a standing desk half way through the pandemic, but I don't spend enough time standing at it.
-
Not as pretty as pie.
-
I’m loving Past Lives. Romantic. Bittersweet.
-
I think I would like a better score.
-
I should get back to standing, as I'll now be working overtime an extra 18 hours per week.
-
It's voluntary. But I want the money.
-
One more.

PAGE SEVEN

Not as pretty as pie.
But nice.
-
They came, they left, we never heard an alarm. I have no idea what that means.
-
Keith is making popcorn, but none for me as I had leftover popcorn earlier today.
-
'night

From rogerebert.com:
For as much as December releases had a bad morning, it was even worse for Spring releases. Our beloved “Are You There, God? It’s Me, Margaret” ultimately failed to get nominations for its screenplay or its wonderful Rachel McAdams performance, despite both being widely speculated on as potential dark horse possibilities.
-
It's voluntary. But I want the money.
I want the money, but I don’t want to work for it.
-
Well, there's that, too.
-
I don't have any good stories.
-
Or any bon mots.
-
Or any bon homie.
-
Or any bon bons.
-
I might have a fetching bonnet.
-
But that would be stretching it.
-
The dishwasher is chugging away.
-
There may be leaking coming into our bathroom again from above.
-
Oh joy.
-
Good night, friends.
-
Good night, Bonnet Boy.
-
Past Lives has that fragmented time framework that BK doesn’t care for. It’s a little much here, but it often works with the theme. I just grew to love the three main characters and the director’s choice to give them room to be themselves, sometimes warts and all.

Gratuitous post 200!
-
I watched and very much enjoyed the 2nd episode of "True Detective: Night Country".
Weird things are happening, but they manage to pull it off rather well.
-
The floods in San Diego are horrible.
I hope that we hear from Rodzinski soon.
Vibes that he and the family are safe, dry, and enjoying Carlsbad.

Amen to that.

It has rained three inches today here and it’s still raining. We had flash floods earlier this week (yesterday, in fact) and it looks like it’s continuing another day.
-
Had a long bath, which was very relaxing.
-
My thoughts have now turned to thoughts of bed.
-
But not before we leave this page.
-
Only two to go.
-
Uno mas.
-
Eight!
-
LOL DR FREDDIE.
-
Thanks DR JANE & DR FREDDIE - I will feel better when my brother gets approval for his Advantage Plan.....
-
Thunder has started. Right before bed.
-
Joy, o joy.
-
Good night, all.
-
Here it is
That looks delicious!
-
I did not sleep well. Once again, we have no heat in the apartment, no rattle of the radiator, and I hate getting out of bed on a cold morning without any sign of heat.
Larry, I’m so sorry that you have no heat in your apartment.
What’s going on in your building?
Vibes that this gets fixed asap.
-
Rodzinski in Carlsbad - he can go visit my ex-wife.

I guess it’s a 3 Cat Night.

They repaired the fire system today from when the pipe burst.
That's great, Jane!

Sorry, Vixmom, but there are five books in the "increasingly inaccurately named Hitchhikers Trilogy." ;)
-
And there is a sixth book, which I have but haven't read, but that was written by a different author.

I've read the five written by Douglas Adams. I have enjoyed them.
-
And I have the audio plays (with full casts).
-
I just came across this blog posting about:
Mostly Harmless: How Eion Colfer Took Over The Hitchhiker’s “Trilogy” (https://blog.bookstellyouwhy.com/mostly-harmless-how-eion-colfer-took-over-the-hitchhikers-trilogy)

And coinkydinkly, Don Quixote is mentioned! ;D

:))

I haven't read them in years. I just remember enjoying them back then.

Up are new notes.

I've seen them.

I've read them.

I wrote them.
