I had a HUGE crush on Barry Bostwick after seeing him in The Pirates of Penzance.
-
Here are Barry Bostwick, Andy Gibb and Joanne Worley performing on the Merv Griffin Show.
They were such a great cast.

-
That was taped on August 4, 1981.
-
I was fortunate to see that production at the Ahmanson in Los Angeles in 1981.
Pam Dawber was Mabel, and she was terrific.
-
Happy Birthday, Donald Feltham!

TOD
I loved the freedom of playing outside with friends until it got dark.
Riding bikes, listening to records at homes of friends, deciding last minute to have dinner at a friend’s home because they were having spaghetti….so much freedom, lack of fear, close friendships with all of our neighbors.
So glad that there were no cellphones or social media when I was growing up.
-
“Biscoff Bomb”
Vixmom, I had never heard of this.
Looks delicious!
-
Belated birthday greetings to Michael!
-
Vixmom, your painting is lovely.
-
BK, sending very important envelope vibes!
-
DR Ginny, congratulations on the sale of your house!

“Stella at the moment prefers to sleep next to the bed in a plastic tub.”
DR elmore, this visual gave me a huge smile. 😊
-
Have a good day, all.
🌻
-
Good morning, friends.
-
It took me about seven attempts to type that correctly,
-
But I am sitting here in the dark.
-
So maybe that explains it.
-
I've got a lot of
living 'splaining to do.
-
DR Ron Pulliam, I hope your symptoms continue to abate.

~~~CONTINUED IMPORTANT ENVELOPE VIBES~~~ for BK!!!!
I love DR DR Iris's "bring back" TOD wish. Simpler times.
-
I saw a brief video clip of Sutton Foster singing "Shy," and I have questions. She's curiously NOT belting it.
-
An artistic choice, I suppose.
-
Can we make it to page two?
-
Can we?
-
PAGE TWO
-
Yes, we can.
-
And we did.
-
And that's all there is to it.
-
Good morning, all!
-
I slept well most of the night. There was a period from 3:00 to around 4:30 where I could not get my legs comfortable and Annabelle and Thatch wanted me out of the way so the bed could be theirs.
-
Good wishes for the arrival of that important envelope, BK!
-
Good morning, all.
-
In half an hour I must get ready to go to my checkup.
And shortly after that, I must get ready to go to a rehearsal.
-
“Annabelle and Thatch wanted me out if the way so the bed could be theirs.”
They told me that the bed IS theirs.
They just kindly let you join them, depending on their mewd. 😉
-
Back to the TOD for a minute, because I forgot something important.
Fireflies.
Also known as lightning bugs.
They were absolutely magical, and I miss them terribly.
Yes! When I was growing up in the 1950s and early 60s, our subdivision was loaded with insects, from grasshoppers and crickets to fireflies and praying mantises. Every night in summer we would watch the bats swooping around the corner streetlight for moths and other flying insects. I haven't seen any of that in the past 40 years.
-
In that same period, I doubt that any of our neighbors, as well as my parents, locked their doors.
Happy birthday to Donald!
Optimist Day sounds like a pleasure!
-
Is Get Up Day referring to an outfit or literally getting up in the morning?
-
Or maybe not just sitting around so you should get up and do something active?
-
More important-envelope vibes for BK!
I don’t know about that Get Up Day. I’m too lazy.
Kitty cleanup is over. While I was cleaning the litter box, I unfortunately learned which cat has been having the diarrhea issues: Stella. It was so gross I will not tell about it. I just hope she isn't sick.
-
Last night, I planned to watch more Mss Marple' there are still four episodes. Instead Amazon Prime sent me back to Season one, episode 3 of "AMurder Is Announced." WTF?
-
So, after trying several times to get back where I wanted and always ending up on Season 1 episode 3, I decided to watch Season 1 of the 2007 series Brothers and Sisters. I warched the first four episodes, got hooked, and I will continue with all five seasons.
My friend Brian has filed a motion with the Supreme Court to not allow DJT on the ballot for the Republican Primary in that state - where he lives.
It is a compelling argument if anyone wants to read it.
I'm sure these petitions will all make their ways up to the Supreme Court, and hopefully, they'll take up the case and decide quickly!
I don't think I described what it is correctly - but you get the drift.
Interesting - I did another global em dash search - same as yesterday - today it finds 368 hyphens that should be em dashes. It took seven minutes to change them.
-
Yes DR CHAS SMITH - we call it Mooresville, but it IS Pawnee.
That is a document in favor of the Colorado case that is before the US Supreme Court now.
Brian's case in North Carolina has not been decided on yet.
Yesterday I discovered a minor leak under the sink in our main bathroom. The guy who was here to fix that was aghast at our 25-year-old water heater, so a new one is being installed as we speak. Seems that could have been done during the 5-month renovation, but we’ll take it.
-
Good afternoon.
-
The original water heater in our house lasted 40 years. The replacement only lasted 10.
-
Today would be a nice day for a new member of the Grandma Club.
-
This also would be Kerry's birthday. I took him an Oreo cake on his last birthday.
-
I don't have anything to bake today, but I'll use his mixer next week. I still use it a lot.
-
That's sweet, DR Laura.
-
Speaking of sweet... sumo mandarins are in season. How I love them!
I left out the part where I yelled at him.
HAPPY HHW BIRTHDAY GREETINGS to our very own DR Donald!!!!
I believe the exact quote was "What? You are eligible for that medical trial??? Why didn't you sign up for it???"
He did sign up for it. It did work. And he felt really good for several weeks. But ultimately it was an unrelated problem that he couldn't overcome.
Several good weeks of feeling better was worth your yelling at him to get into the trial.
Had a smash burger from the most well-reviewed place in LA - very good and their fries, which are basically In 'N' Out animal fries, are MUCH better than In 'N' Out.That said, one single patty smash burger isn't really enough food.
Between the painter and the plumber our day hasn’t unfolded as we’d planned. It’s all good, just sort of discombobulating.
Alexa, meanwhile, is playing a lot of selections from the London Sondheim revue, Old Friends. It’s OK. Won’t replace any of the original performances. They also played a selection from Days of Wine and Roses. Interesting. Not my favorite.
Roundabout Theater’s new season was announced today. It includes:
“a new jazz-infused, New Orleans-style production of The Pirates of Penzance by W.S. Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan, adapted by Rupert Holmes, choreographed by Warren Carlyle, directed by Scott Ellis.”
Rupert Holmes will probably do a wonderful job with this.
I’ve been trying to catch up on all manner of things, including the Accumulation. Not much success, I’m afraid. All these little tasks that I think will take only 5 minutes? One leads to another and, “Oh, that needs to be done, too.” It’s endless. Sigh.
Watching a short on the making of Hitchcock’s Lifeboat. Apparently star Tallulah Bankhead didn’t like wearing underwear, which was causing problems for the assistant director. He went to Hitchcock and asked him to deal with it. Hitchcock, according to his daughter, said no, because he couldn’t tell if that fell under the purview of wardrobe or hairstyling.
Thanks to all for the comments on the play writing.
Yes DR IRIS I hope it is intriguing. I'm am not optimistic about a production - but stranger things have happened.
There is in fact a musical on the same subject playing Off-Broadway in April, I think, although it had a production in 2022.
I was watching some clips from the Reader’s Digest-produced Adventures of Tom Sawyer on YouTube. Johnny Whittaker so good. I didn’t realize Warren Oates ever sang a musical number in a film before.
-
Reader’s Digest there’s a brand that was once so powerful. Used to produce such great hardcover picture books.
-
I saw an actual Reader’s Digest at the airport last week and bought it out of nostalgia. It’s published in Iowa now. I didn’t know it still existed. Well, the newsstand copy was from November, so who knows?
Anyway it was utter garbage.
Apparently its corporate address is in Iowa but its editorial office is in Manhattan now. It’s run by private equity grifters. I remember it used to have a palatial campus in Chappaqua, NY.
My grandpa gave me a Reader’s Digest radio he got as a premium once. Picked up police band, shortwave, CB, airplanes… Loved that thing.
I wish there was a Shakey’s around here.
Watching a short on the making of Hitchcock’s Lifeboat. Apparently star Tallulah Bankhead didn’t like wearing underwear, which was causing problems for the assistant director. He went to Hitchcock and asked him to deal with it. Hitchcock, according to his daughter, said no, because he couldn’t tell if that fell under the purview of wardrobe or hairstyling.
I would love to see that!
Iris, pay a visit to that Follies website. This sounds like a horrible thing and there's a disclaimer there that they can't guarantee that any of the names will actually be in every performance or any performance. Look at the cast of characters, which include characters who don't exist. This seems funded by and exists for the old showgirls who are in it. I may have to call Ted Chapin and see if he's really doing it.
