Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke of the gold in Goldsmith, and now it is time for you to post until the golden cows come home.

And the word of the day is: QUIRKY!

Good morning, friends.

Who decides these things?

:)
-
Good morning, all! I'm up early because I have an Amazon Fresh order arriving shortly.
-
Rice, anyone?
-
After I put the delivery away, I will call Access-a-Ride for tomorrow's trip to Verizon. I relly cannot walk there and expect to move the rest of the day.
-
I got about seven hours of sleep. The cats behaved beautifully.
-
Amazon Fresh was delivered and put away. The cats were no help at all.
-
I'm listening this morning to Gareth Valentine's Requiem. Gareth conducts on the West End/ He was MD for Trevor Nunn's production and recording of Yjr Baker's Wife. Thee requiem recording features two friends as soloists, Bill Burden and Kurt Ollman. It's quite lovely.
-
Interesting! Is that commercially available, DR elmore3003?

Access-a-Ride scheduled for tomorrow morning.

-
"Ahead"? Or, present and accounted for?
-
Fantabulous night of sleep.
I got up earlier than I planned...because it's geese mating season out in the yard by my bedroom windows.
I haven't seen them in months, and now here they are in full force clacking away.
Bless their hearts.

While he is not the TOD, I have to say that Jerry Goldsmith has been part of my life for more than 60 years.
Among my favorites are his "Dr. Kildare" TV score music, "The Wind and the Lion", "Patton", "The Sand Pebbles", "The Blue Max", "The Chairman" and "Star Trek: The Motion Picture". Still, those only scratch the surface of his output.
-
:)
Warm and wacky father-to-son advice in that cartoon!
-
I understand Bruce's frustration with modern-day film composing. Most of it is droning noises and the like, but aside from John Williams whom I lionize, there is one composer out there whose work really speaks to me: His name is Carter Burwell, and his scores get to the heart of each film and never overstays its welcome.

We're about to set off for NY

Have as wonderful a Sunday as possible, everyone.
I won't be watching the Super Bowl, but will check in on the score every now and again.
FWIW, I hope the 49ers win it.
-
Rice, anyone?
That's really nice! And fun.

The T-Mobile Super Bowl ad, which includes Jason Momoa and Zach Braff singing and dancing to a rewritten "Flashdance, What a Feeling," is pretty interesting.

Good morning, all.
-
Have been listening this morning to Seiji Ozawa's recording of:
-
I am really hooked on "Street Music, Op. 65, a Blues Concerto, Movement 4."
-
Happy Sunday to everyone....the new episode of the Broadway Radio Show is now up on the site! Come and Meet Those Dancing Feet as we put together the score of 42nd Street using 4 different cast recordings! Enjoy!!!

DR FREDDIE that was pretty funny.
-
Cleanup this morning is endless! I feel I've been working for over 90 minutes and there's still more to accomplish.

Would you mind leaving so that some other folks could log in to HHW?

I've finished everyhing now but the bed. I'm going to make it and then lie in it.
-
That's really nice!
Rice is nice.
-
Travel vibes for Vixmom.
-
That's interesting, DR Ron Pulliam. In iTunes, that album does have the Russo, but it has Gershwin's "American in Paris" instead of Bernstein's "West Side Story" suite.
-
That's really nice!
Rice is nice.
Can you say that twice?
-
Back in my college days, I read everything available by Flannery O’Connor, true poster child for Southern Gothic writers. She seems to be having a moment these days. I read recently that someone turned her notes for her unfinished novel into a book. She’s also a main character in Ann Napolitano’s A Good Hard Look, which I am halfway through. I think I need to reread some of her work soon.
-

I’m sure it will haunt every youtube video I watch for the next year.

That’s what they say. Twice as nice when violins play.

That special appearance was wacky! :)
I assume she was already a guest on the show that day and didn't come in just for that.

That's interesting, DR Ron Pulliam. In iTunes, that album does have the Russo, but it has Gershwin's "American in Paris" instead of Bernstein's "West Side Story" suite.
In real life, it has everything listed on the album.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kbbKz-xxQgk
That said, however, there was a release with an identical cover, but which omitted the Bernstein and included the Gershwin. It also includes William Russo's "Street Music", the 4th movement of which is the one I have been listening to.

DR RON PULLIAM that is a reference to an event in the notes.
-
DR RODZINSKI that is a great clip!
I always thought all of those Bubble Gum groups on Buddah were studio musicians and not a real band. I had never heard The Lemon Pipers sing live.....nice.
And of course....Ann!
-
DR ELMORE that sounds like a good plan.
-
DR RON PULLIAM that is a reference to an event in the notes.
Ohhhhhhh....I get it, sort of.
-
Has any DR ever heard of Shoepeg casserole? It's made with shoepeg corn, which is a variety of sweet white corn.
-
And it has a crushed Ritz cracker topping, of course.
-
From DR Singdaw:
I am too full for popcorn, so please tell Keith.
LOL, so was I.
-
DR John I am glad you also find the questions at the end of the book annoying.
-
From DR George:
I never really pay attention to those. ::)
Smart move.
-
DR Ginny since you also belong to a book discussion group I am curious about your opinion on those questions.

Good afternoon, all.
-
I was ketchuping on a lot of stuff this morning, to the point that I eventually forgot I hadn't even logged in here yet. Woops.

Soon I have to ketchup on even more things, not least of which is replenishing the ketchup (and a few other things) at the grocery store.

In honor of Super Bowl Sunday, I shall do an end run.
-
Sunday afternoon greetings! I christened my new craft space yesterday participating in an all-day virtual card making event. My sister (in Michigan) and niece (in Florida) we’re also online and we had fun crafting “together.”
-
DR Ginny since you also belong to a book discussion group I am curious about your opinion on those questions.
I assume you mean the suggested discussion questions? They’re often pretty lame. Here’s a list I do like:
https://www.oprahdaily.com/entertainment/a31047508/book-club-questions/
But I’d reword some of them so they’re not yes/no questions. Those aren’t very good discussion starters.
-
Those guys all went to Miami U. Did Elmore or Ginny hang with the Lemon Pipers??
Not me, DR Rodzinski. They’re the same age as Richard and DR Elmore, who were both students at Miami’s Oxford campus. I’m 4 years younger and came to Miami’s Middletown campus as an employee, but not until 1973.
When I asked Richard about them he said, “They played in the uptown bars and I didn’t have the money for that scene.”

I knew of them, but they were a year or two ahead of me, as I recall. I never saw them perform.

Thanks for the link. I will save it as there are some good question suggestions. I often ask how they felt about something vs a yes or no option.

DR John I am glad you also find the questions at the end of the book annoying.
Now that you’ve read A Room with a View, do you think the ending would have been different if the room had been painted in ochre instead of puce?
Should Eleanora Lavish asked for the family to sign permission slips before fictionalizing their lives?
-
And equally vapid questions.

The list sent to me for Tom Lake is from Fresh Book Club Ideas. I went to compare the questions to what was at the end of my copy of Tom Lake. It seems the eBook version didn't include questions.

I still laugh at the time my brother read a book and was baffled as to why there were stupid questions at the end. He had no idea it was for book discussions. I'm sure he was relieved to find out that I agreed they were stupid ;D

DR RODZINSKI that is a great clip!
I always thought all of those Bubble Gum groups on Buddah were studio musicians and not a real band. I had never heard The Lemon Pipers sing live.....nice.
The Lemon Pipers were kind of a hybrid. They were a real rock band from Oxford, OH, but when they signed to Buddah Records, they were given to a producer who specialized in bubblegum. So the singer sang to a pre-made backing track and then it raced, up the charts sealing their fate. This is evidenced by the fact that you can find the identical backing track used by the Peppermint Rainbow on their album. The Lemon Pipers albums actually show both sides of the group. Songs they wrote, and bubblegum tracks their singer sang over.
-

Haha. Apparently they played often at the Boar’s Head in Oxford.

Yes, I’m very pleased, DR Jane. The room will double as our guest room, so, except for my desk and card catalog on one wall, everything’s on wheels. We can roll things out of there when we want to open up the trundle beds for guests.
-
Picked up the package of soup, four in total. Then I decided I'd have a Subway sandwich, got that, came home, ate it, and now - time to work.

DR Ginny do you care who wins?
Here in Bengal-land, the Chiefs aren’t very popular. And the 49ers have more former Michigan Wolverines, so I’m going with San Francisco.
But do care? Not especially.
-
Interesting response regarding the two teams, not that you don't especially care.
-
Taylor Swift?
Who's he?
-
Home!

DR RODZINSKI I think I have that album....I'll have to check it out.

Thank you all for the vibes. Traffic was really good all the way except for a brief stall in Virginia and the inevitable bumper to bumper the second we hit the NY border
-
But we made it home in 11 hours with three stops for bathroom breaks and to top up the gas tanks
-
And a brief lunch at Subway

Health vibes for Elmore

Thank you for the vibes. I just canceled tomorrow's Access-a-Ride trip. I will reschedule for Tuesday.

Hugs for DR Elmore!

LOL. I will be sure not to watch it.
-
I don't have anything to report.
-
I didn't watch the game OR the half-time show, but a friend summarized it for me, so I didn't have to.
Can you imagine the concept pitch for that halftime show?
“It’s gonna feature a guy named Usher but he’s actually a Performer, plus flying circus freaks, a traditional marching band, pole dancers, a piano shaped like soft-serve ice cream, roller-skating robot people, glittery abs, a bunch of guest performers who make 50-year-olds ask “who is that again?” and a guy who takes his shirt off but leaves one glove on because it’s a family show. People will LOVE it!”

That's great news, BK!
-
I have found the video of The Visit that BK wrote about recently. I’m liking it better than the Ingrid Bergman film, but it’s not very good. In fact, it’s rather amateurish.
-
Love and Love Alone is a beautiful Kander and Ebb song. Not enough to rescue the show. The book seems to have forgotten it was supposed to be there. There’s so much that doesn’t have to do with anything.
-
I think the Trump era can also be to blame for the lack of tension or suspense in the show. We know people will do anything for money. There’s even no sense of shock at the suggestion that the town sacrifice Anton for her revenge.
-
I’m glad the video is there and that I watched it. But there was sadly no bite.
-
Good night, all.
-
I, for one, was pleased for the Chiefs and Ms Swift.
-
Return-to-health vibes for Elmore!

Book vibes for BK!

I think I can get us to page 7

I did not watch any of the game whatsoever.

Followed the score a bit online.

Twas a day of rain
Of playing with my children twain
-
Many a game of Uno was played
-
And that concludes transmission from Page 6.0
-
Welcome to page 7.0
-
Well, today was a bit of a day.
-
My mom and I went back to the casino to get the second of four free pans.
-
And here's what we got this time:
-
It's a small pot with a glass lid, which has a little hole in it for steam to escape.
-
I didn't think to take a picture of the steam hole. ::)
-
;D
-
It's a nice little pot, and I really like the colors.
-
My mom said that she's been using the sauté pan that we got last week a lot.
-
She really likes it!
-
And then George just disappears into the good night while leaving us on a page that I, for one, do not care for.
-
New notes are up.
-
Up are new notes.
-
I've seen them.
-
I've read them.
-
I wrote them.
-
I wish I could talk about the horror show I'm hearing about almost daily, but I can't and I shan't - for now.
-
Was that enigmatic?
-
I believe it was.
-
I zonked out. ::)
-
Where the HELL did George go?
-
He WILL be held accountable.
-
Gratuitous Post #202!!
-
Zonked out.
-
Zonked out.
-
You watch your phraseology.
-
To zonk or not to zonk...that's the conundrum wrapped inside an enigma.
-
There are no gratuitous posts, only gratuitous foodstuffs.
-
It's not like it's deliberate. ::)
-
Zonked out.
-
It just happens!
-
