Well, you've read the notes, the notes sizzled, and now it is time for you to post until the sizzling cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: SALIENCE!
-
Just counted - we managed to use seventy-one photos in the photo spread.
-
Wish they could be in color, but that would be prohibitive.

TOD Part I: Hair has got to be my favorite stage-to-film adaptation. The stage show is great fun but you really had to adapt it to make it a movie, especially ten years after the show opened. I like that they added plot to it. It's a shame about some of the great cut songs but I understand why from the dramatic perspective, and they did record them for the soundtrack album.
-
TOD Part II: For what doesn't work at all for me, this has to be Sweeney Todd. When your story is told nearly all in music, and the only lead who can sing is someone who is in just 2 scenes (Pirelli), you've got one heck of a train wreck.

Good night.

Good morning, all!

I was up extra-early to get all of kitty cleanup before Access-a-Ride picks me up for my doctor's appointment.
-
I spent much of yesdterday going through the ballet score, looking for errors. There were more than I'd like, but if I can get an errata lisat to the librarian, I think we'll be doing okay. I got through half of Act one, and I will finish it tonight.

When I arrived in New York in June 1979. I stayed a week with a college friend who was supervising the costumes on The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas and dressing actors on the movie Can't Stop the Music. She had worked on the film of Hair. I know now that they filmed "Frank Mills" in three different locations, including in front of the Waverly on Sixth Avenue, and "Air" was filmed in a traffic jam on the George Washington Bridge. The cast danced on the cars. Charlotte Rae sang "My Conviction" at a Long Island party the gang crashed. I keep hoping that the additional filmed songs will turn up on a special DVD.

We had Sizzler and Bonanza and Ponderosa......and maybe even a couple of other chain steakhouses......
I think I liked Bonanza best....their steaks were always cooked exactly as you requested....and their fries were crisp not soggy.
-
Interesting notes. I am not sure I want to watch the PURPLE musical....but we shall see.
-
Slow day at HHW.

Yes DR RODZINSKI that is the movie about the Florida squatters - Follow That Dream. It had a terrific title tune as well.
And a nice courtroom finale.
Unfortunately it also had Arthur O'Connell who I don't like in ANYTHING and he sometimes completely RUINS a movie I would otherwise like a LOT - i.e. Bus Stop.
He also stunk up the screen in Kissin' Cousins.
-
I must run. But first …
-
A milestone post.
-
Congratulations, DR John G., on your auspicious new number!
-
Good morning, all.
-
And a quick one it must be. I'm outta here for errands, a rehearsal, more errands, and seeing Rio Bravo on the big screen at the Bedford Playhouse.
-
Tuesday morning greetings! We’re going to brunch here at Cafe 210, then to Costco to activate the gift membership that Rob and Mary Linda gave us for Christmas. First ever visit to a Costco for either of us.
-
That’s a lot of eights, DR John G!
-
I well remember Sizzler from L.A., but I was only in one a couple of times. I'm thinking somewhere in West L.A., maybe out near Marina Del Rey? There was one on Highland not too far south of Hollywood Blvd. but I don't think I went to that one. They were well loved for their salad bars, and I believe they were one of the earliest restaurants to even have one. Am I remembering that right?
They were a national chain - I think - but the only other one I ever saw was here, visible off the Cross County Expressway in the Bronx. In seeing it from a distance throughout the 1990s and the aughts, I always wondered what it would be like to stop in there for old time's sake. I never did, and now it's long gone. I didn't know there were any left at all, but BK has just demonstrated otherwise. :)
-
Whoa. The site is coming and going today. I’m outta here now, and back late this evening.
I also wanted to belatedly congratulate DR MichaelG on the close of the performances. And thanks for posting the picture!
-
Congrats to DR JOHN G on his millstone.

Could not get on this here site all morning. Glad to see it's back up now.

vixmom - So sorry to hear about all you went through on your train trip home yesterday. How nice that everyone behaved well, and that that made it bearable.

From DR Singdaw:
Judges in Missouri cannot finalize a divorce if a woman is pregnant. Where will all this end, I wonder?
Is this a new law or an old one that was never removed?

I am home from the doctor. Both Access-a-Rides were on time. While I waited I read a wonderful book, Kritzer World. Anyone read it? I have to put it down relunctantly for the next couple of days to finish looking for ballet scvore errors. On Thursday at noon I have a Zoom meeting with Marzio, the conductor.

CONGRATULATIONS on your milestone post, DR John G.!!!!!!
Wow! Crazy eights!
-
You are getting to a very exciting phase in your project, DR elmore3003.

I am curious about what people think about the film adaptation of Cabaret. it's a very different beast from the stage musical.

Good afternoon.
-
I'm not sure about that, DR Jane. Didn't have time to research it.
As expected I found it is an old law. You saw something about it as there is a bill to change it. I also read that three other states have similar laws: Texas, Arizona, and Arkansas.
-
I am curious about what people think about the film adaptation of Cabaret. it's a very different beast from the stage musical.
Cabaret is a fun one because they then re-adapted the stage musical to include some of the movie and previously cut songs. I like all three versions, probably in order of new stage - movie - original stage. Someone else here may well know the full history a lot better than me.
-
Back from the mail place, a Gelson's run, and making pasta in pink sauce with meat. I don't know why, but there is a LOT left and normally I can always finish what I make. I barely ate half.
-
Think I'll save the rest for tomorrow.

Photo layout approved and as soon as I receive the hi-rez files, off it will all go to the designer.

Me. too. Haven't seen one in DECADES! We have Outback and Ponderosa, though.

TOD:
I think the successful stage-to-movie musical transitions, for me, are:
The Sound of Music
The Music Man
Gypsy
West Side Story
My Fair Lady
Oklahoma
The King and I
South Pacific (despite the color filters)
Cabaret
The Unsinkable Molly Brown
Chicago
1776
Call Me Madam
Funny Girl
Hello, Dolly!
Unsuccessful:
Nine
Rent
Sweeney Todd (looked great, but singing is what it's all about)
Camelot (beautiful, tuneful, but woefully directed, IMO)
Paint Your Wagon (some great stuff in it, but the direction killed it)
Annie Get Your Gun (it's a chore for me to watch it).
My criteria for succesful vs. unsuccessful: I was more entertained than bothered by anything in the film.

It is a strange day here in Johnston SC in the CSRA.
First, I had a dental appointment at 10;30 a.m. That went well enough.
I came home to find my shrubbery team (different from my grass man) working away at a problem hedge that had completely gone bonkers. They pruned and hauled away for two hours. It looks great now.
I bought my lunch at The Triangle (don't be square, eat at the triangle), and had hamburger steak with gravy and onions, creamed potatoes and mixed greens. Hit the spot.
My day has been spent, however, with the feeling that something isn't quite "up to snuff" with my sinuses. In fact, I've been doing some snuffling and nose blowing. Congestion seems to be winning out, so i rather think I'm in the throes of a head cold. Torpor and malaise are my symptoms.
-
At the dentist, the hygienist asked me how my week is going?
I had to stop and think where in the week I was.

Thunderstorms, hail, and possible tornadoes forecast for here as the evening goes along......with temps dropping into the thirties......

Greetings from the Bedford Playhouse. I’m sitting in their lounge with a few minutes to catch up on mail ‘n stuff.

We’re getting the rain and wind tomorrow and Thursday. So what else is new?

I have the dermatologist tomorrow, in one of his other offices 40 minutes away as opposed to the one ten minutes from my house.

I thought I had an appointment with the dermatologist tomorrow to finally remove the skin cancer. I thought we were talking about February, except the person making the appointment was talking about March. I have never ever had to wait more than two weeks after receiving the results of a biopsy. In fact they have always insisted I don't wait longer. The office is short a couple of medical staff, and all offices seem to take forever these days.
-
My big issue with waiting weeks longer is the location of this darn thing. I keep irritating it. I gave up wearing bandaids as they irritate my skin making it worse, except I figured it didn't matter if I formed a scab as I would be getting it removed tomorrow. Sigh.
-
I am on a wait list now in case something earlier opens up.
-
Since this appointment is the day before a scheduled eye exam I attempted to postpone the eye exam a few months. The next available appointment is in September. I don't want to wait that long. I found out the practice is very busy these days and the doctor is no longer taking new patients.

Thanks. I'm really on a time crunch as this takes soooo long to heal.

Wordle: 4/6

I just finished my errata check of the Act One full score. Stella lay beside me as I worked and behaved. Naughty Annabelle climbed onto my worktable to lie on my score. I petted her for a bit, then picked her up and set her o the floor. About ten minutes she returned and we went through the same routine. Ten minutes later she showed up again. After being dumped for the third time, she did not return.

On the successful list, part 2:

Pirates of Penzance

Show Boat (the Paul Robeson version)
Roberta
-
Two more dreadful adaptations: Man of La Mancha and A Chorus Line.
-
No one has mentioned Cats yet.

Or the religious duo of Jesus Christ Superstar and Godspell.

Gratuitous post 99!

Let's also have a Gratuitous post 100, for the heck of it!

Watching a silly Robert Rodriguez movie called Hypnotic. Ben Affleck. Lots of violence, not a lot of sense. But the man knows South Texas. And those touches are both authentic and entertaining. But they are too few to save the movie. Jackie Earle Haley is a wonderful and underused talent.

I can’t say I like it any more thank BK or JRand did.

Well, tonight we had a full contingent of actors for Incorruptible.
-
We read through the entire show, and then the director asked the actors their characters' relationship with faith and belief (yup...table work).
-
The director didn't ask such detailed questions that the director of Sunday in the Park with George asked last year, so it went fairly quickly, and was quite painless.
-
However, tomorrow, she (the director) is going to do act one table work, then on Thursday, act two table work.
-
Jane, it's official...Sharry is in the show, so we'll finally be involved (if not acting) in a show together!

I like Fresca.

I don't remember when I discovered it.

So, earlier today, my mom and I went to the casino to get the last ceramic coated red pot in the series of free gifts.
-
This time it's a 5.5 quart "Dutch oven."
-
I used quotes because it has the glass top that's the same design as the two sauce pans, and not a solid lid like most Dutch ovens that I've seen.

And here it is...

On a sad note (D-flat), I think my smart watch has bit the dust...well, the battery, at least. :P
-
For the last couple of week, it's seemed that the battery died much sooner than it has in the past.
-
I used to wake up after having charged the watch battery overnight, and then if I forgot to charge it the next night, it could still have 25-35% battery power left.
-
Today, I took it off the charging dock at about 1:15 pm, but then the power was completely dead before 6:15!
-
Not even five hours anymore. :-\
-
Well, it was fun while it lasted.
-
And it lasted a couple of years longer than the smart phone that I originally bought it for.
-
My first smart phone was an LG G5, and this watch is an LG Urbane, specifically to match the LG G5.
-
Page six. What a way to end February.
-
Ridic.
-
Well, what can you do, plus the site was down for an hour or two this morning.
-
Or should that be yesterday morning, since it's now today.
-
George up and disappeared.
-
Not very sporting.
-
And he WILL be held accountable.
-
It is an Android watch, so it could pair with any Android phone.
-
When I got my current phone, a Samsung Galaxy A51, they paired quite easily.
-
And so will I.
-
George up and disappeared.
No, I have not disappeared!
-
I tried to pair with a pear with no luck.
-
Then I tried to pear with a pair, if you get my meaning. That didn't work either.
-
I tried to pair with a pear with no luck.
Pears are nice. :)
-
My butt is sore from this damn tall seat I sit in.
-
Perhaps time for a new tall chair.
-
Pere and mere.
-
Anyway, I would like to get a new smart watch...but nothing too expensive.
-
Can a pair be a peer?
-
Can a peer be a pair?
-
I do not care for page seven. Keep posting.
-
I have some regular battery powered watches and some manual watches that just tell time, so I can at least know what time it is until I do replace the smart watch.
-
So, I'll have to some watch research.
-
I did a quick search on Amazon, and I couldn't find another LG Urbane watch, so I think it's safe to say that it's no longer available. ::)
