Well, you've read the notes, the notes were nothing like a Dame, and now it is time for you to post until the nothing like a cow cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: LUMINARY!
-
Topic of the Day: I certainly was a fan of Dame Edna's! I got to see her live and in person in Seattle, back in the mid-to-late 90s, or the early 2000s (I don't remember exactly when). I LOVED her version of "Losing My Mind." I remember when I first heard it, I laughed my ass off! :D
-
The only negative, however, is that after Barry died, it came out (no pun intended) that he was quite homophobic and transphobic. :-\
-
So, my smartwatch that I'd had since I got my first smartphone in 2016 died a slow death over the last few months (that original smartphone died a couple of years ago). The watch still worked and paired easily with the replacement smartphone, but the battery just couldn't keep a charge longer than five hours or so anymore. So, I bought a new Android smartwatch on Amazon and it arrived yesterday!
-
This new watch is able to to count steps, read your blood oxygen level, read your blood pressure (although reviews question the accuracy), remind you to drink water and get up after no activity, but the features that work are the option to place and answer calls, and change the watch face.
-
Here's the default watch face once I got it all set up:
-
Here's another of the default faces:
-
Here's the watch face that I liked before I found the trove of additional faces:
-
But the best part is that you can upload your own pictue to the watch and have that as the watch face! And look what I uploaded:
-
Pretty darned cool, ain't it!? ;D
-
I think I'll keep BK and Richard Sherman for a while.

Nice watch, DR George!
-
Good morning, friends.
-
CONGRATULATIONS to DR Freddie on your lofty new perch in the HHW firmament!!!
-
~~~CONTINUED GET-WELL VIBES~~~ for DR vixmom and gal Rodz!!!!!
-
Hope you are pleased with the rehearsal recording, DR elmore3003.
-
.
-
Who decides these things?
-
Cheetos: plain or crunchy?
-
That is the dilemma.
-
I also saw Dame Edna's show at the Booth Theater. A master of comedy.
-
Good morning, all!
-
:(
-
I slept quite well. Stella stayed with me most of the night, then Annabelle showed up to snuggle around 3:30, and Thatch came to hang out around 5:00.
-
CONGRATULATIONS to DR Freddie on your lofty new perch in the HHW firmament!!!
Thanks, singdaw!
-
Thanks to Rodzinski's noting last night for my post #2001, "Fred is at 2001: A Posting Odyssey"
-
This morning, thanks to assistant conductor Jae Hwan, there was a link to mp3s of yesterday's rehearsal. It sounds like music, not the garbled noise on Zoom, so I am quite relieved. I also got a Zoom invitation from Sarah Wroth, the ballet director, to attend a rehearsal on Thursday and be introduced to the dancers.
Great news, elmore!
-
I will spend a couple of hours this morning listening to yesterday's rehearsal, then I have today's rehearsal at 4:15.
-
Fun postings of the photos of your watch, George!
-
More get-well vibes for Rodzinski's daughter!
-
And more vibes for vixmom!
Glad your boss told you not to come in!
-
I think you already posted it a few days ago, DR George, but what watch did you get, again?
-
Yesterday I saw a recipe online for chili - with pineapple in it.
-
Spotted in the wild: the Croissantisaurus.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Michael G, last night you mentioned "I retired last year, so no more work travel for me."
Interesting question of what it means to be retired when you still go on performing.
-
Yesterday I saw a recipe online for chili - with pineapple in it.
No.
-
I retired last year too, Michael G. Good company to be in.
-
I slept about eight hours. Quite nice. Don’t remember any dreams.
-
I retired last year too, Michael G. Good company to be in.
Michael G - Does that mean that for yourself, even if there are reviews and newspaper coverage, one might not think of performing in a show like "Corpus Evita" to be work as far as some of the performers are concerned?
It looked like for the writer and creatives and producers, they thought of it as a business venture, though.
-
I could only take Dame Edna in small doses. Losing My Mind being one of them, possums. I found that inspired.
-
Spotted in the wild: the Croissantisaurus.
That's inspired!
-
Michael G, last night you mentioned "I retired last year, so no more work travel for me."
Interesting question of what it means to be retired when you still go on performing.
I'm an amateur singer. While the leads and creative team at West Bay are all professionals, the chorus is volunteer. The same is true for many symphony choruses. Boston's is all volunteer. San Francisco has a core of AGMA singers and the rest are volunteers.
So retirement means more time for performing. My professional work is software engineering.
-
Except the city is replacing the seats in our theater and doing some other upgrades, so no May opera this year like we usually have.
Here's another shameless parody self-promo (to help nudge the YouTube views a bit, if possible - LOL)
THE MILLER'S SONG (LOSING MY SIGN)-HENRY MILLER'S GHOST gripes, but OKs renaming his theater for Mr. Sondheim as the new Stephen Sondheim Theater
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=phlrsBx23O0
From 1:46 to 2:35 of that "Losing My Mind" parody, I had quite a bit of content about Dame Edna in the lyrics, with no subtlety about it. Dame Edna's "All About Me" was the last show at the old Henry Miller Theater before it became the Sondheim.
-
It has the Ghost of Henry Miller singing "I think about me" rather than "I think about you."
-
If anyone is willing to click on it and let it run, even without watching - I think that can help. :)
-
That "Rainbow High" parody OF "Forbidden Broadway" from the other day had nudges in the YouTube view count, from the few places I posted it, like here on HHW and on castrecl and the Times comments allowed me to put the link there, too. (And Facebook too, of course).
-
Congrats to DR FREDDIE on his millstone.
-
That's a pretty funny video DR FREDDIE.
-
I like DR GEORGE's watch!
-
I ordered the book from the link on Facebook.
Then I came here and my last post was "Book Ordered." I don't think I ordered it twice......time will tell.
-
Congrats to DR FREDDIE on his millstone.
Thanks, Jrand!
-
I think only one PayPal receipt.....so I guess I was GOING to order it last night.....
-
That's a pretty funny video DR FREDDIE.
Thank you for that, too!
-
Ooh, Page Three!
I also saw DAME EDNA on tour.....and everyone was laughing so hard including me.
About ten minutes after the show started, some late comers wandered in and were trying to get to their seats.
Dame Edna stopped the show and asked them where they were from....they said Carmel.....just north of Indy. She looked them up and down and said: "I came all the way from Australia and I got here on time."
I'm sure it was a line she used at each show.....but it was very funny...
LOL - It could even be worth having some plants coming in late at every performance to get that line in.
-
Amazon Fresh delivery charge on orders under $100 has gone from $6.95 to $9.95. This really pisses me off.
-
I think I will peel potatoes while I listen to yesterday's rehearsal. My life is too thrilling. Please, God, send a good job my way.
-
TOD:
My initial exposure to Dame Edna was on television, but I had occasion to see her live twice when I lived in the San Francisco Bay Area"
In 2004, I saw her "Back With A Vengeance" show at the Curran Theater. The audience howled most of the performance, and I was howling along with it.
In 2008, her "Live and Intimate in Her First Last Tour" played at the Post Theater. The Assistant Director of the GSA I worked for treated me to the show as a reward for the house-sitting I had done for her over the past year. We both laughed and cried and it was a great show.
In the show I saw in 2004, she commented on the manner of casual dress she could see on patrons from the stage. She had a few exchanges with some of the audience, and then held her hand over her eyes and looked up toward the balcony. "If this is how you dress in the prime seats, what must they be wearing up in the balcony? Trash bags?"
Morning, team!
-
I saw Dame Edna somewhere once but not in one of her Broadway shows, but I can’t remember what. Always funny.
-
She also had a basket on a long pole and took shoes from people in the audience......they didn't get them back until the end of the show...her comments about the shoes were hilarious.
-
I was certain that I'd logged on and said at least a good morning earlier, but it sure looks like I didn't!
-
I came to Barry Humphries via, as I will often mention, the movie Shock Treatment, where he created such an indelible character as gameshow host/conspirator Bert Schnick. Many absurd quotable lines that live on in my laughing heart.
“Brad will learn how to care in the surgical chair!”
“I’m gonna be there! Ain’t we all, viewers?”
“Jay-net? Are you deezent?”
-
Anyway, here I am for an all too brief visit before I have to leave for rehearsal.
(What is it today? Oh yes. Drowsy.)
-
I detest this new keyboard. Somehow I logged out of Facebook, I cannot find the last password in my files and I cannot manage to change it to log back on.
I must be the only one here who never saw Dame Edna in anything!
I remember Nathan Lane in Forum in like 1998 or whenever. At a show I was at, he took a good five minutes to roast latecomers. I forget which restaurant he would say they’d come from, Applebees? Howling laffs.
-
Wait. WTF is up with Facebook just now? I'm having to log in on a new screen, and I can't get in, either. Is this what's happening for DR Elmore?
-
It's not only DR Elmore and me, but many thousands of other people as well.
I googled, and it's being reported all over.
(Whew.)
-
I'm up, I'm up - four hours of sleep.
-
Oh yes I was afraid I’d been JRanded on Facebook but the whole site is F’d right now.
Facebook is doing to me what it is doing to everyone.
So it wasn't my fault! I think I've completely screwed up my password and cannot fix it until the next day. This is also going on with Instagram.
-
Just got back.....I guess the Martians were trying their earth invasion again.
Marjorie Taylor Greene, who knows nothing and speaks highly of it, would blame those Jewish space lasers.
-
Nice watch, DR George!
Thanks, Singdaw!
-
Well, I listened to yesterday's orchestra rehearsal, and I think most of it will sound wonderful. The closing Charleston needs some help; there's too much booming percussion, and there are no saxes so it will need to be tweaked in two weeks.
BK, might you be interested in releasing a commercial recording?
I like the regular cheese puffs more than the crunchy, but I wouldn't refuse the crunchy if that's all there was. ;D
DR ELMORE since we make them billions of dollars - it's the least they can do.
I shall probably buy some tomorrow since HHW had put them back into my consciousness.
I see a bit of sun.....at least I think it is.
-
I see 72 Guests are viewing this board.
-
If we could get all of them to post, we'd be beyond the dreaded page 7 in no time.
-
That was one of the first-world problems from that list I was mentioning the other day:
"I can't hear the TV over the crunchy snacks I'm eating."
-
I like crunchy Chee-tos.......
I like both but I prefer the crunchy.
-
Jen came by and picked up the week's mail. I was very happy to see her; I miss her and Ann when they're away. Ann's been dealing with a 90 year-old dying mother, who's taking her time to do it, in Boston since early December, and I don't know when she'll be back.
-
Tough situation DR ELMORE.....vibes for your friend.
-
DR CHAS SMITH I loved playing The Man In The Chair - and I still think MR BK should play that role some day.
Of course now I have heard that THE DROWSY CHAPERONE is WOKE and changed.....which is very sad.
-
I must be the only one here who never saw Dame Edna in anything!
No, you have company! I never saw or heard her until listening to Losing My Mind a few weeks ago. Since I don't know her work, that track felt like glimpsing a party you weren't invited to. No problem, that's why there's a skip button.
-
I hope DR ELMORE is enjoying his rehearsal.
-
Cloudy now.
-
Cheetos and Takis! Yummmmm.
-
Need to get ready to usher for Alvin Ailey tonight
-
That sounds like a great evening!
-
Jodie Comer won the Tony and a slew of other awards for Prima Facie, which Susie Miller based on her novel. It’s about a barrister who is raped. Comer reads the original novel on audio. It’s a powerful performance that really gets into the fears and follies of this woman who never imagined herself in this position. It’s hard to listen to at times, but Comer keeps you moving forward.
Facebook has finally returned :) I needed to look some information up this morning for something I am working on for my high school class.
What concerned/scared-me-a-little with the outage was that someone may have taken over MY account as someone had done to DR JRand last week.
When I opened FB on my tablet this morning and saw I needed to sign in I decided to wait until I was up and at my computer. I immediately checked my phone to see if I had a text from Facebook with a code to verify it was me signing in.
I was relieved not to see a text.
-
Once up and at my computer I attempted to sign in.
I then asked Keith to confirm my new password. After doing so he went online for me and found that FB was down.
-
I don’t like Cheetos
Not even the the crunchy ones? We love those but do not like the puffs ;D
This morning I was extra glad that I added the extra safety step for a text from Facebook if someone uses my password.
Goodnight, Jane.
vixmom - More feel better vibes!
-
What a day this has been!
-
Nothing really, thought, to show for it.
-
But I am caught up on the posts, so there is that.
-
Like others, when I had problems with FB this morning, my thoughts immediately went to DR Jrand73's predicament last week.
-
A fella asked me what a hoedown was.
-
I told him it's like a shindig
-
But really more like a hootenanny.
-
I could tell he was confused,
-
Because his face went all cattywampus.
-
And that is the whole sordid tale.
-
I always find tots taste better seasoned, don't you?
-
As P.D.Q. Bach says, "tarragon of virtue is full."
-
Full of what, I can't say.
-
I was going to try to push on to page seven.
-
But I've got a lack of content issue.
-
As you may well have surmised.
-
Are you surprised to have surmised?
-
To have prioritized?
-
Oy, this is painful.
-
One more.
-
PAGE SEVEN
-
Good night, friends.
-
Incredible performance. Of course, Revelations was the highlight, danced better than I have seen live or on tape.
-
But all three dances were special.
-
The only difference this time was the audience treated Revelations like America’s Got Talent. They whooped and hollered and cheered every solo. They knew the movements, every famous turn. And the dancers loved it. They responded.
How is the little mini Rodzgirl today?
Well docs called and told us they got further culture results and the antibiotic we were given was useless, so we got a new prescription and then no Walgreens or CVS had the stuff but we found a small pharmacy that did, so I drove an hour to Bellingham and then our insurance wouldn’t pay because it was out of network, so the pharmacist was nice enough to reduce the price from $1200 to $800, so there you have life in these modern times.
-
DR CHAS SMITH I loved playing The Man In The Chair - and I still think MR BK should play that role some day.
Of course now I have heard that THE DROWSY CHAPERONE is WOKE and changed.....which is very sad.
I do recall a line in the B’way version that made sport of Elton John after a few flops he had, kinda “give it up already, Elton.” I wonder if they changed that.
-
What a completely weird day. When she of the Evil Eye comes on Tuesday I think it's Saturday. Breakfast at Art's Deli - bacon and eggs.
-
Went to the nearby Von's after and got a thing of four small pinwheels for the later snack.
-
Went to the mail place to mail a letter.
-
Came home just as she of the Evil Eye was leaving.
-
Then I began proofing. Slow going, being careful. Found a few small things and one major thing that's a global issue.
-
Did that all afternoon, took a break, ate the pinwheels as six.
-
Watched the rest of a documentary called Scandalous about the National Enquirer.
-
Came back to continue proofing but I could not keep my eyes open, so I went and plopped myself down on the bed and fell asleep for two hours.
-
Once back up, I was completely discombobulated. I finally got coherent and proofed another twenty pages. That's it for tonight, I think.
-
Oh, one other thing - I do not care for page seven.
Well docs called and told us they got further culture results and the antibiotic we were given was useless, so we got a new prescription and then no Walgreens or CVS had the stuff but we found a small pharmacy that did, so I drove an hour to Bellingham and then our insurance wouldn’t pay because it was out of network, so the pharmacist was nice enough to reduce the price from $1200 to $800, so there you have life in these modern times.
Rodzinski, have you heard of the GoodRX (https://www.goodrx.com/) app (it's also a website)? A friend uses that and actually saves a lot of money.
