Well, you've read the notes, the notes were final and fixed, and now it is time for you to post until the final and fixed cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: DESCRY!
-
Regarding talk show hosts: The classics that BK mentioned, of course. Among those, there was something I found especially pleasant about Merv Griffin as an interviewer.
Also, Dinah Shore, Donny and Marie, and Vicki Lawrence when they had their talk shows.
-
Good morning, all!
-
I'm a bit crabby this morning. Indiana Univewrsity has not resolved the issue of sending me the rehearsal recording from Tuesday, which really pisses me off, and the continuous rain has resulted in my canceling my lunch date.
-
Good morning, friends.
-
I still got nothing.
-
.

Who decides these things?
-
Who decides these things?
If someone finds out, could they ask them why Cereal Day and Flapjack Day coincide?
-
Maybe one of the 30 guests visiting the board knows someone who might know?
-
What? You don't put cereal ON your flapjacks?
-
So, while I'm crabby, let me tell you about seeing that original production of The Human Comedy, which I saw at in early 1984 at the Public Theater. I had a friend, no longer with us, in the cast. It had some good performers - Rex Smith, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, Joe Kolinski - and a particularly inept on from Gordon Connell. It remains one of the worst things I've ever seen. The band was too large for the space, and I swear those damned trumpets never stopped shrieking at the top of their range. I remember a particularly awful number between Gordon Connell and Stephen Geoffreys. I cannot remember who choreographed, but the direction was by Wilford Leach, whose Pirates of Penzance was a huge success. I am not a fan of the maudlin writings of Saroyan, and the book did little to tone down that element. It was a noisy, inept rendition of paddlin' maudlin home.
-
I just read the Wikipedia entry on The Human Comedy and I am amazed at the misinformation: it was not staged like a semi-oratorio; I do not remember projections although they might have been there; what I remember is that the set had various small areas set as different locales. What I do remember is leaving at the end and looking at the posterboards of critics' raves and thinking, WTF? Did they see the mess I just saw?
-
That current Speaker of the House and Trump-tooter Mike Johnson was on CBS Mornings today. He is such a piece of shit!
-
What? You don't put cereal ON your flapjacks?
Today, that would be a double celebration!
-
Thanks for sharing your memories, DR elmore3003.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Thursday morning greetings! Sorry to be so scarce lately. I had ladies’ meetings in Middletown Monday and Tuesday and a visit from an out-of-town friend yesterday.
-
Slept pretty solid. Could always use a little more, but what are ya gonna do. Right? Am I right?
-
:)
-
I wonder why the "W" in the HOLLYWOOD sign is in a different font. Must be a replacement.
-
Also, one of the gaps in the top of the letter is a narrower shape than the gap on the other side.
-
Completely different angles. It's bizarre.
-
Today I'm back to rehearsal, this time something a little different. Today I'm only observing this high school rehearsal of Carrie prior to actually joining them for their tech week and performances next week. It'll be interesting for me because it's a school I haven't worked with, I have no idea of the level of their productions, the student gal on Keyboard 1 is supposedly very good so I look forward to hearing her play it, but she doesn't have any experience piano-conducting so the band director who doesn't play any keyboard at all will conduct... (it goes on, but I shan't bore you).
-
I’m going to head into the office for a few hours
-
Attend to the urgent stuff

First a Wordle

Take care, DR Vixmom!
-
We are, once again, absolutely deluged with rain here. We're supposed to get a break this afternoon and tomorrow, but then it returns to wash out the weekend.
Being as how it's still only the first week of March, however, we can at least be grateful that it's not a foot of sn*w being dumped on our asses.
-
So March IS coming in like a lion.
-

What? Wikipedia has something wrong? Say it isn't so! :) Thanks for the first-hand update.

I need to read a biography of him.

Link vibes for DR ELMORE.
And thanks for the information on.....whatever that was supposed to be.....I certainly didn't like the movie version of The Human Comedy....much.

Those trumpets occasionally overwhelm the cast on the recording too.

The assistant conductor came through and I've listened to the first hour of Tuesday's rehearsal. They're playoing better than Monday, and some of it, to my delight sounds quite wonderful. I expect by opening we will have a first-rate ensemble. The pianist, who had me worried on Monday, is now starting to play out, so I'm happier about that. Marzio Conti, the conductor, is amazing; on top of everything, his patience, advice, and sense of style are so enjoyable to hear.

In that space at the Public they were dreadful. I like MacDermott's score for Hair and love his score for Two Gentlemen of Verona, but I can't say I ever want to hear The Human Comedy ever again.

Sounds promising, DR elmore3003.

Do you know yet if the stream of the program will be archived, or only available live as it is being performed?

Was just watching clips of Steve Lawrence the other night. With Eydie on What’s My Line? and teaching Johnny how to croon on the Tonight Show. RIP

Very. Reading about Signe Lund it seemed there was much to admire about her, and that she would not be a person to support Hitler once she understood the depth of his atrocities.

The part in question is at that clip Larry linked from 1:24 for about twenty seconds.

I've been watching the last BBC adaptation of Vanity Fair. I think Gone With the Wind faces a better charge of plagiarism to Vanity Fair than "Somewhere Over the Rainbow does to that etude.
Why do the Pitt Crawleys address Becky as Miss Blunt instead of Miss Sharp in this latest BBC adaptation?
-
That Over the Rainbow malarkey - don't people have anything better to do? What's next - Sondheim will be sued for No One Is Alone because it has six notes in common with The Candy Man? It's absurd.
-
Why are we on page three?
-
Dinner with the Pearls is pushed to next Tuesday - it is thundering and lightninging and pouring rain here and it's even worse where Barry is - in fact, it's hailing where he is. I just ordered my chopped Eyetalian salad from CPK using my 50% off code. Cheaper than going there and cheaper than DoorDash.
-
Why are we on page three?
We could be on page 4!
-
Well done DR Freddie.
-
Yes, it's just like it except the older tune omits the most unusual part of the melody, and it's in a different rhythm and mode.
Alas, BK, copyright law judgments in the USA have been severely messed up for a few years and stupider cases than this have won.
-
Judgments regarding musical plagiarism / infringement, that is.
-
Hey, I'm a Jr. Member now. First time I've been called "junior" for anything in a long while!
-
So, if I do a cabaret program in, say, the Cafe Carlisle, and charge admission, am I responsible for paying royalties on all the songs in my program?
-
I would guess so, but just wondering.
-
Only on page four.
-
We need us a frenzy or three.
-
We could have a discussion about whether "liasons" rhymes with "raisins."
-
That would be good for a couple of pages, at least.
-
I thought this was really interesting...
-
A hornet's nest of controversy?
-
My crocheting skills aren't up to par...
-
They're non-existent, really.
-
But I've always wanted to learn.
-
There's a gay knitting group in Palm Springs that calls itself "Stitch & Bitch."
-
Perhaps I should take up macramé.

I could have hanging plant holders.

But maybe that phase has passed.

Along with avocado green kitchens.
-
Not that there's anything wrong with that.

It's a good thing DR Laura is not visiting DR Jane and Keith, having given up carbs for Lent. Popcorn is hard to resist.

I think macramé these days is more like macramayn't.

It is an unwelcome guest.

Having done nothing to deserve the rebuke.

It's a cruel world.

I'm not going to watch the State of the Union or the response.

I am sure the evening will be analyzed and recapped to a fare thee well over the next days.

I wonder how former DR Cillaliz is doing these days.
-
After Hillary lost, she kind of went over the deep end.

Oh, well.

That was a bravura stream of wordplay consciousness, singdaw!

So, if I do a cabaret program in, say, the Cafe Carlisle, and charge admission, am I responsible for paying royalties on all the songs in my program?
My understanding is that the venue is responsible for licensing.
-
Been a long day.

Right before going to class I received a new office chair, which I have assembled. Mostly. I don’t know how to keep the wheels in place.
-
I am now watching The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz, which I had never seen for some reason. I’m liking the cast more than the movie.
-
But the movie is pleasant for the most part.
-
Started a groovy horror film from the 1960s called The Sorcerers. Boris Karloff is a mad hypnotist. The beginning is fun.
-
Too bad I am fading.
-
Good night, all.
-
Hi there
-
I did go to work today but I came home a little early
-
Tomorrow I will attempt a full day
-
After dinner I dozed a bit
-
Then watched a few episodes of the Blacklist
-
Which may keep me occupied for months as it seems to have 10 seasons on Netflix
-
Anyway that’s where I was
-
I should get more sleep
-
Good nigh5 folks
