Well, you've read the notes, the notes sprang forward, and now it is time for you to post until the springing forward cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: ASSUAGE!
-
So glad to see in last night's posts that Rodzinski's daughter is doing well!
-
BK - Do you not have ABC on your TV?
-
vixmom, so happy you're feeling better!
-
Good morning, friends.
-
My burrito is supremer than your burrito?
-
What makes it supreme?
-
I like the idea of upright citizens.
-
They beat supine citizens, every time.

.
-
Who decides these things?
-
Shall we eat a spring roll whilst we spring forward?
-
I ain't no spring chicken.

It Might as well be Spring.

Spring a leak.

Or, if you're the Galloping Gourment, spring a leek.

It's a spring thing.

We are going to attempt to go downtown for breakfast this morning, but there's a statewide boy's hockey tournament afoot, so it may be crazy.

Good morning, all!

DR elmore3003, do you know of this opera by CV Stanford? A recording has just been released.

Shall I have crab meat meatballs while watching the Barbie movie while getting over Covid?

Good morning

Someone told me about the connections game and tile game
-
I slept well. My only bedmate last night was Thatch, who seems to like cuddling next to Daddy as long as I don't hold him. Annabelle loves to be held, and Stella has lately been showing a desire to sit on my lap. I had several dreams but I remember only one, in which I resigned from the Drama Book Shop to work freelance as a musical arranger and part-time for anothjer performing arts book shop. The dream had nothing in common with the reality of my actual resignation in 1997.

The connections seem rather tenuous, but I ended up with answers they wanted by process of elimination

Not sure it will keep my attention

Tiles I just don’t get , the matches seem entirely arbitrary to me

DR elmore3003, do you know of this opera by CV Stanford? A recording has just been released.
I do not know this opera, but I do have several recordings of Victorian opera like Sullivan's Ivanhoe, Balfe's Falstaff, and MacFarren's Robin Hood. I think it's great these little-known operas are gewtting heard again.

My only plans for today are to get some laundry done
-
I actually have a ticket to go see a band play in the city tonight but I’m going to let it go.
-
I don’t have the energy and it seems a poor idea to expose myself to crowds or vice versa

DR John G, I'm happy you like the new Three Musketeers. Is it as good as Richard Lester's 2-parter? I have read three three translations of the novel, the first was the Lowell Blair translation in 1973 whiler I worked at the Jacobs Pillow Dance Festival, then I read the Penguin edition translated by Sudley around 1980 or 81. The Pevear translation - he did the celebrated Anna Karenina translation in the 1990s - came out in the late 1990s, and I read it as soon as it was published. I thnk I prefer it to the other two.
I have this vague memory that sometime between 1973 an d 1979 I read the Oxford World Classics edition as well. It's one of my favorite novels.

BK, I will be sending you something by We Transfer today.
-
No, Elmore. The new Musketeers movie is not as good as Lester’s film, IMO. But it’s enjoyable for the story and the sword play. I liked the King a lot. He’s vapid, arrogant and occasionally shrewd.
I think reading the subtitles may have affected my overall opinion.

Today at noon I have a session with my arranging student. I have no other plans for the day.
-
Good morning, all.

Well about 5 p.m. yesterday as I was sitting at the computer.....I began to feel a chill.....then I realized I also had a fever.
I took my temperature and it was 99.5.....so then I decided I should probably take one of those dreaded you know what tests.
And indeed it was POSITIVE.
My fever seems to have gone this morning, so I think that means I am not contagious or something like that.
But I am going back to bed.....
-
Ah, Saturday.
-
Oy, DR Jrand73!
-
It has a darker palette. I did like that it largely wasn’t bloody, despite the violence. And the darkness helped in that regard.
-
Vibes for JRand.
-
Glad both Vixmom and the Rodzter are feeling better.

Oh dang, JRand! Hope it’s a mild one.
-
When I had my head cold last week, I had initially figured I'd take a test, just to be prudent... and then I let the time pass, recovered nicely, and forgot. So now we'll never know...

I think my back is starting to feel a little better after the weed-pulling (and back-tormenting) lawn work of the other day.

Getting up and down has been fun.

~~~Quick Recovery Vibes for Jrand!!~~~
I have started a Colleen Hoover novel, It Ends With Us, because Moms for Liberty got it banned. It’s banal, but not bad. It’s also entirely predictable. Why was it banned? Dunno so far. But I doubt I will be reading more of her books.
-
Hi, George.
-
Feel better vibes for DR JRand73!
-
My yesterday was fraught with a runny nose and sneezing fits throughout the day and the evening.
Still, I managed to sleep well enough with my CPAP. I did awaken once to have a bit of a sneeze-fest, but went right back to sleep.
I am going to blame all the peach pollen in the air for most of my current miseries, however. I don't feel sick, otherwise, so there is something "in the air", as they say, making me feel the misery I have felt.
-
I had a surprise phone call from a 2nd cousin yesterday. She had found some pictures of my mom and my Aunt Doris with her mom and wanted to mail them to me. I gave her my address.
What was intended as a short call went on for about forty minutes as we sorted through familial relations and relatives that we both knew about or didn't know about. It was an interesting chat, so I am very glad she reached out.
She is the only blood relation from my mother's lineage directly related to my grandfather other than my cousins through my Aunt Doris.
-
That is all that I know at present.
I had my session with my student, who's opening The Music Man this week. I love talking about the show and the problems he's encountered.
LOL DR Singdaw, yes there was popcorn last night.
-
Yes, grumble, grumble to moving the clocks forward.
-
If California will join Oregon and Washington, this will be the last time we need to spring forward.
-
DR George, I'm confused now. Did you lose power at both your work and at home?
-
Wonderful news last night regarding the Little Mini Rodz gal.
-
DR Vixmom please stay home tomorrow and REST!
New regulations:
"people would no longer need to stay home if they have been fever-free for at least 24 hours without the aid of medication and their symptoms are mild and improving"
I'm up, I'm up - maybe four hours of sleep thanks to George FORCING me to order a burrito at one in the morning.
-
It's a gray day here in the CSRA.
When I went to the post office, it seemed a bit foggy. I had to run my windshield wipers even though there was no precipitation. Once I turned onto the road where the post office is, the misting stopped.
I ordered a rib eye steak sandwich for lunch from (don't be square, eat at) The Triangle. I drove around town a bit until it was time to pick up my food. I encountered a FedEx truck barreling down a neighborhood street doing about 45 mph. I flashed my lights, blew my horn and yelled at the driver as he went past. The posted limit is 25, and there were children out in their yards. He noticeably slowed his vehicle, but he was approaching a Stop sign, so that was probably the reason.
Watching Wonka. It’s surprisingly good. Not great. The lyrics are a little too Bob Merrill-y for me. “Put some chocolate in your pockelet.”
But a nap awaits.
Although sometimes that style can really work, like elephant and cellophant and others in "King of the Forest" in Wizard of Oz.
-
"Elephant and Cellophant and Others" - That could be the title of something.
-
Maybe a revue of songs with those kinds of rhymes.
He might worry that you would report him which is somewhat of a reminder to slow down next time. Hopefull you made a difference.
They went home with warm cookies.
Thank goodness for cake mixes. You can make cookies with them in a flash. Before the kids get distracted.
And thank goodness for sales on cake mixes.
Amen to that. My Dollar Tree often has Pillsbury mixes.
I just tried out my new leaf blower. It works on leaves. It’s ready for the oak pollen, which should be darkening my door step any day now.
I'm glad you have one, DR John G., but I'm also glad that I'm not your neighbor. :)
I walked to the pharmacy to get the shot. I also walked this morning to pick up a prescription. So ten miles today.
Then the grandson and his parents came over for a visit. I whipped up some playdough and pulled out the Star Wars and the Grim Grinning Ghosts cookie cutters.
Twice, in the past week, I have started watching a movie I simply found it too trying to get into.
First, it was last year's best picture "Everything, Everywhere All At Once". I watched 15 minutes and could not believe that a story had not yet developed worthy of my attention. I won't give up on it. I may have had a short attention span that day (it happens).
Today, it was "Poor Things". Holy crap on a cracker. I gave up after 10 minutes. Am told it is brilliant and that I should just let it roll over me. I felt as if I'd been hit head first by a large truck. I can appreciate what Emma Stone must have gone through getting into, and realizing, her character. And I can appreciate that I should stick with it to the end. But not on THIS day!
Please do not take my comments as overt criticism of disdain for either film. It's just that they are outside the norm for getting my interest.
-
That's it. Jack. Vixmom infected you through your computer. I have often felt I have been infected during telephone calls with sick folks.
-
As much as I hated to do it, I began watching "Ben-Hur" on TCM this evening.
I say "hated to do it" because I ALWAYS get hooked on this film. I thought I could just watch up until a certain point, and the I'd be reminded that another part I loved was coming soon. Some 130 minutes later, I finally got to a point where I knew I could just turn it off. After the chariot race, it slows down a bit (after his final scene with Pontius Pilate) and it gets into the nitty gritty of reuniting with his mother and sister and taking them into Jerusalem in hopes of a miracle cure.
That, plus the knowledge that it's virtually past midnight rather than half past eleven (counting the impending time change), I think it's time to get into bed.
-
Wonka has ended. Again, it was good, not great. But it was a fairly well-made movie musical.
-
And Jim Carter, Mr. Carson from Downton Abbey, sings in Wonka. Who can miss a Jim Carter musical, to paraphrase Bette Midler.
