Well, you've read the notes, the notes had the nth the eth and the Oscars, and now it is time for you to post until the Oscar-winning cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: PROPINQUITY!
-
Well, I accept NO responsibility for BK ordering and subsequently eating a chicken enchilada burrito, which I've never had, so it's all on him!
;)
-
I always wait until I wake up to reset any clocks...mostly because I have a couple of devices that supposedly change on their own, and might (in which case I don't want to change before I go to sleep), or they might not, so I wait to see if they did change automatically or not. :)
-
And the word of the day is: PROPINQUITY!
Is that when you take someone else's prop on stage?

Which one is NEVER supposed to do! >:(
-
Said the newly ordained stage manager. ;)

Oops, I shouldn't joke about that in front of a stage manager! :) I guess that would be propiniquity though, so never mind.

You're forgiven, MichaelG...this time.

What areth we, Shakespearean to the nth degree?

Goodeth morning, friendseth.
-
Fairly decent night of sleep.
-
Strange dreams.

.
-
Who decides these things?
-
I guess this time change is easier on pets than the one in the Fall.

From their perspective, they're getting fed an hour earlier, which isn't so bad.

Of course, just as I was about to go to bed, we had the ubiquitous every two week (although this was a bit over two weeks) computer crash. So, had to do all that malarkey again. Of course, it's really 3:15 and yet it's 4:15. I think I'll sing I Didn't Know What Time it Is.
-
We'll stay all night and we'll sing 'em all!
-
And that's what comes from men and women dancing.
-
Apparently the Oscars start earlier this year, at 7:00PM EDT.
-
Good morning, all!
-
I hate this Daylight Savings Time nonsense! I've loathed it every year it happens, The clock may say 6:20 but the mind still insists it's 5:20, andf no matter how much prep I try to do the day before, it still means that for the next few weeks my body will resist this needless time change.
-
This morning I have laundry, and this afternoon a phone call with conductor Marzio Conti. At some point I need to write a harp part.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Why, oh why, did I have to visit the necessary so early this morning, when it was already a short night of sleep? Why?
I decided to just suffer with the need for more sleep and get the HELL up.

This 7-part Vanity Fair on Amazon Prime isn't bad. Episode 3 kicked the series into gear with Amelia and George, Dobbins, and Becky and Rawdon following the troops to Brussels to fight Napoleon. They are befriended by Mrs O'Dowd, Amelia becomes jealous of Becky's flirtation with George, and they attend the famous Duchess of Richmond's Ball where George asks Becky to elope with him just before Napoleon's advance is announced and the ball ends with the troops heading to Waterloo. Chaos ensues in the panic of the British wives and nobility to evacuate in case Napoleon wins the battle.
The novel makes much more of the famous ball, and I wish the series had as well; it was essentially reduced to Lady Bareacres being a complete snob to her inferiors, particularly the novel's main characters, George treating his wife Amelia poorly to flirt with Becky, and George giving Becky the letter asaking her to elope just before the ball ends with the orders for the trroops to prepare to march.
As soom as I finish Kritzer World, I'm reading the novel again.
-
More coffee!
-
Good morning, all.
-
Two!
-
I too hate the time change. And I love Vanity Fair. I wasn't scandalized when I read it. Instead I was thoroughly entertained that it could be so scandalous. That book showed me how much fun classics could be. Trollope's The Eustace Diamonds is equally fun in a similar way.
-
George, thanks for the news on Barry Manilow. I probably can't afford tickets. Too bad I don't usher there.
-
It's 9 and it feels like 8. Darn it all.
-
Hi, Freddie.
-
Well, I accept NO responsibility for BK ordering and subsequently eating a chicken enchilada burrito, which I've never had, so it's all on him!
;)
LOL!
-
Hi, Freddie.
Good morning, John G!
-
From their perspective, they're getting fed an hour earlier, which isn't so bad.
I think they get nervous in the fall that they're not getting dinner at all.
-
.
National Mario Day?
-
It’s past ten, and it feels like eight.
Monday morning is going to be here before we know it.
Houston, I think we may have a problem.
-
Happy Sunday, all!
I, for one, am most delighted that today is Oscar day.
Facebook has been filled with "guessing" about all categories since the start of the year....yes, pre-Oscar nominations. The first batch of predictions were about who would be nominated for what. The guessers were all agog about "the pre-cursors" lists and how they predict Oscars. Most especially, some proclaimed, the Golden Globes were a dead giveaway on who would win the Oscars.
Lately, several posters have been regaling us with their choices for the past fifty years...citing the Oscar winners versus their own more deserving choices.
Yesterday, a chap alerted all those with extensive Oscar knowledge and film experts that he would soon post HIS own comprehensive listing of all Oscar winners since 1950 citing those who deserved to win vs those he knows should have won.
I shouted "alert the media" to that.
-
I do understand the excitement that Oscars can be for folks.
I was once a major Oscar devotee. And I can still enjoy an Oscar moment or two when something wonderful happens. Last year's award to Brendan Fraser was one of those times.
But I have seen far too many Oscar shows in which deserving folks lost out to the popular, or "in", things that, retrospectively, turn out to have been dud choices given the competition of their respective years.
All that is subjective, of course. My disappointment is someone else's joy.

So, enjoy your Sunday and perhaps we shall trade sarcastic remarks, insults or shared delights during tonight's Oscar party.

I never said, did I?
I will be most delighted when it is over. Facebook-wise, it will be a major relief except that there is likely to be a lot of "I predicted this" and "How could they have chosen XXXX over my favorite?"

Happy Sunday everyone! There's a new episode of the Broadway Radio Show up on the site for your listening pleasure. Melissa Errico joins me to chat about her new album Sondheim in the City. It's a terrific exploration of living in New York through the works of Stephen Sondheim. As always, Melissa is a fascinating guest...check it out!

Sounds great, Donald.

Not feeling up to par today.

No covid. I tested. No fever. Just blah.

Maybe I need a lazy day.
-
Listening to Donald. I didn't know Melissa Errico writes occasionally for the New York Times. Her liner notes on this album are great.

Hope the blah feeling goes away, John.

Laundry is finished but not put away. I will do that after my phone call with Marzio and I feed the cats.
-
Melissa Errico is beautiful, but she only remembers the people she thinks are important. There's a rumor that Richard Chamberlain hated working with her in My Fair Lady. I can see why, although I'm sure she was wonderful. She's very talented but I dislike her personally.

Jimmy Kimmel said on CNN about the Oscars, the show will start an hour early and will end "just as late as ever."
-
I found Everything Everywhere tedious and obnoxious, Ron. Obviously many did not, but if you do not vibe with it early, it may only get worse.

Thanks DR VIXMOM.....most appreciated.
After reading what DR JANE wrote, I decided to postpone the test until tomorrow.
-
I did not know there was such a thing as a glass top gas range.....can't find one on the Lowe's site......
-
DR RODZINSKI it was a very sad result.......
-
I have one, DR Jrand73. They look like this:
-
The heating coils are embedded underneath the surface.
-
Apparently a 2nd cousin of mine from Indiana is nominated for a short film called Red White and Blue. Root for Phil McLaughlin.
-
Oh, never mind. You were talking about a gas range.
-
Yes, I am having a hard time imagining such a thing.
-
DR RODZINSKI it was a very sad result.......
Glummer than gloomy. And now they’ll likely be left out of the tourney in favor of like an 8th team from the Big Ten.

Thanks DR VIXMOM.....most appreciated.

-
DR Laura thanks for the tip on the updated vaccine recommendation. I find it interesting your pharmacy sent you a notification.
-
No I am not going anywhere today.
-
DR singdaw that is the source of my puzzlement.....gas burners....glass top.
Who ever heard of such a thing?
Maybe it's NYC kind of thing.
I also have a glass top range - but it has electric burners.
-
Yes. I'm just a little slow on the uptake, it seems.
-
Nothing new, there.
-
Federal and State taxes are filed. I'm pleased, as I am often scrambling the second week in April.
-
I'm up, I'm up - nine hours of sleep, maybe a bit more.
-
Because of getting the computer back up and running, I didn't get to bed until four-thirty, which was, of course, five-thirty. Got up twenty minutes ago.
-
Is there any streaming thing I can do a free trial on so I can watch the damn Oscars? If not, I'll need lots of reportage.
-
I'd best get to Gelson's for food.
-
Just stirring from a nap. Feel about the same.
-
Sorry.
-
BK, thanks for your email!
-
I had a wonderful conversation with Marzio, our ballet conductor. He had some questions and a couple of suggestions I said I would think about. He's good.

American Fiction for best adapted screenplay.
-
Not a good Barbenheimer night so far.

Now a performance of What Was I Made For.
-
Last year the fam and I were watching the Oscars at a hotel near LAX before an early morning flight to Tahiti.
-
How is the fashion?
You can go online to see photos.
-
No such luck this year. No TV to watch the show on.
-
Updates from HHW will have to suffice.
-
I like the fashion tonight for the most part. Not thrilled with Ariana Grande wearing Barbie’s comforter after a disastrous turn in the dryer.
-
Where the HELL is Jrand???
-
Ron?
-
Freddie?
-
Ms. Randolph wins the fashion so far for me.
-
I remember the glory Oscar days with a full board of folks and on one memorable year, over 2,000 postings.
-
Having lived most of my life on the east coast or Midwest, it is still odd to be on the west coast and have the show going so early. It was always a late night affair where we complained about it going on into the night.

I had read that the Eilish song was favored over "I'm Just Ken", but I have read so much twaddle about Oscars that I may have been misled.

This is the first Oscars ceremony I have watched from the beginning as it aired since 2019 awards ceremony. Things go too politically ridiculous in the 2020 ceremony.

I agree!
-
I rather like the way they are doing the acting nominations. Each nominee has a champion to speak for his or her worthiness in the category. True, we have had no acting surprises, but the losing nominees had a great moment in the sun the way they have done these awards presentations this year.

Likely so, but it's the first time I've seen it don this way.
I prefer it to the clips because more attention is placed on the nominees. At best, clips gave them 5-10 seconds whereas each champion spoke for several minutes.

On to Toy Story 3, which I can’t remember if I have seen before. Oh yes, I just remembered the ending. I think it’s Toy Story 4 I haven’t seen.
-
Oppenheimer, for me, was typical Christopher Nolan - okay, but too long and too much droning music.
-
I don’t recognize the singer and I don’t know which movie it’s for
It's from American Symphony.
Which they couldn’t bother to nominate for best documentary.
-
Best documentary short and feature.

First Oscar in Ukrainian history.
-
Powerful acceptance speech.
-
I liked it better when they showed clips of the actors in the movies.
I did like those.
Maybe they should do both.
They seem to like the show going a long time since it gets good ratings.
-
That’s a pretty dress
-
Cinematography next.

Faux chicken stroganoff was excellent.

Oppenheimer

Isn't it Rodzinski's cousin?
-
Becky G singing The Fire Inside, which is inferior to the Bob Seger song of the same name.

I need to see Ryan Gosling sing I'm Just Ken before I have to go to cook dinner for my sweetie.

Oh you're right.

Gosling is nailing I'm Just Ken!
-
ELEVEN!
-
Big production number for that, plus shredding guitar.
-
I'm Just Ken definitely appears to be the audience favorite
-
Thank you for the updates.
-
I enjoyed it as well

Can you charge the iPad while you use the phone?
-
OK, we've heard all the song nominees, and I'm still in camp I'm Just Ken.
-
Was Ryan Gosling singing live, or was the vocal pre-recorded?

Can't you charge the iPad while using the iPad? I can charge and use all my devices.

Ariana Grande is wearing a duvet

OK, score and song coming up.

Was Ryan Gosling singing live, or was the vocal pre-recorded?
Pretty sure it was live.
-
They started at four and they're now coming up on three hours.

Score goes to Oppenheimer

I told Hans Zimmer on Facebook I thought he should have been up for Are You There God, It's Me, Margaret.

Ludwig Göransson for the Oppenheimer score.

Yeah, I know. But it was BIG and IMPORTANT.

Billie Eilish won for the song I slept through
-
Barbie finally gets an Oscar, but it's for the Billie Eilish and Finneas O'Connell song, What Was I Made For?
-
You can't stop the Billie Eilish train.

Just actor / actress / director / picture left.

And I'm a full member now!

I haven't seen more than the first 10 minutes of Barbie

And I'm. Full member now!
Congratulations!!

I haven't seen more than the first 10 minutes of Barbie
I really enjoyed it.
-
I haven't seen more than the first 10 minutes of Barbie
Everyone yelling hi barbie tired me out and I turned it off
-
Now the In Memoriam segment.
-
Done to the Cinema Paradiso music.
-
Stupid camera angles so we could not see the people being honored in memoriam portion
-
Oh, some composers I didn't realized had died. :(
-
I don't need to see the dancers the musicians, the singers
The names and faces of the deceased should take precedence
-
For me, it was yet another "In Memoriam" FAIL...why on earth they think we want to see the musicians on one side and dances on the other side and not being able to read the names of the deceased being upstaged by the on-stage antics is beyond me.
Thank goodness for TCM that does it right every year.
I hardly think Tina Turner should have been the final image. She upstaged a two-time Oscar winning actress!
-
Lead actor
-
Apparently I can't recognize people here either
;D
-
I did enjoy Goslin's Ken number. Very much.
Predictably, the Eilish nothing won.

CONGRATULATIONS, DR MichaelG!!!!

To be fair, it's not a nothing in the context of the movie.
-
All caught up here, but I'm not watching the show. Taping it, though.
-
And I'm a full member now!
Congratulations!
-
But with the HHW highlights, who needs the show, really?
-
Oppenheimer
-
Cillian Murphy for best actor, just as out local movie critic predicted - chameleon role vs an apotheosis role like Giamatti.
-
Well, Wes Anderson finally won.
-
Murphy was going to be Guy in Once but dropped out. I guess it's easier to play a nuclear physicist than to sing Glen Hansard's songs?
-
Spielberg presenting best director.
-
In memorium segment?
-
Christopher Nolan for Oppenheimer
-
In memorium segment?
A disaster

The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar for best live action short.
So my 2nd cousin was defeated!
But as much of a cliché as it's become, I bet he actually feels it's an honor to be nominated?

Sorry about your second cousin, DR Rodzinski.

Unintentional hilarity, yes!

I don't think I even heard of Poor Things before tonight.
-
Best Picture
-
Should have been Annette Bening. What a performance she gave.
-
I read that the program start was delayed by 5 minutes due to pro-Palestinian protestors outside the Kodak Theater.
-
It's going to three-and-a-half hours - and I think it has nothing to do with the show itself and everything to do with how much advertising they're selling.
-
Giving ABC the opportunity to air more ads.
-
Hollywood Boulevard and surrounding areas have been closed off for a WEEK. How exactly did protestors get there?
-
How is protesting at the Oscars going to help them?
-
Al Pacino presenting.
-
Oppenheimer
-
That caps a big night for Oppenheimer - 7 total.
-
No big controversy this year.
-
No slap.
-
No “we announced the wrong best picture winner.”
-
The minor awards were more interesting than the major ones.
-
Just saw a video of Ariana Grande arriving on the red carpet. My goodness.
-
No streaker.
-
.
-
.
Duvet or comforter?
-
Is she a singer or something?
-
Apparently, Grande went to the store and bought a new set of pink bedsheets and wore them.
-
No “we announced the wrong best picture winner.”
Jimmy Kimmel made a joke about that, though.
-
Page fourteen? Really? :)
-
I don't really follow contemporary pop culture.
-
Thanks for the good reportage.
-
I would have thrown my shoe at the TV had I seen the dead people thing.
-
No streaker.
There was an elaborate joke about that, though. The naked man presenting the costume design award was introduced as recreating the streaker moment.
-
I celebrated movies by watching What's Up, Doc? this evening. It still makes me smile.
-
How hard is it, really, to treat the folks who have passed with some respect?
-
Don't they realize how bone-headed they are?
-
I've got a headache.
-
Heading to bed.
-
Good night, friends.
-
She’s Glinda.
-
She was in the original cast of 13.
-
I am delighted to have made it through an entire Oscar show, highs and lows.
I can delete it from my DVR without wondering if I have missed anything. "I'm Just Ken" will undoubtedly be on youtube by morning if it isnt already.
-
My final thought on the presentation is for Ariana Grande who wore an overstuffed chair on her dress. It must have been very comfy backstage.
-
I don't need to see the dancers the musicians, the singers
The names and faces of the deceased should take precedence
Exactly! :-\

I only saw Oppenheimer.

Oh, my! :o
-
I saw three or four. Would like to see more.
-
I am now awake!
And reading about what I missed.....I woke up the for the ending.
It was weird how both Ariana "Ain't I" Grande and Al Pacino forgot to throw it back to the announcer to name all five/ten nominees in the categories they presented.
-
And I'm a full member now!
Congrats, MichaelG!

I'm sorry I missed John Cena.

It was weird how both Ariana "Ain't I" Grande and Al Pacino forgot to throw it back to the announcer to name all five/ten nominees in the categories they presented.
I think that was a production choice. We heard all five songs and saw clips of all ten movies.
-
I'm sorry I missed John Cena.

I'm sorry I missed John Cena.

And here!
-
While the Oscars were happening, a new musical, Dead Outlaw, was opening off-Broadway to rave reviews. Sounds like a winner from David Yazbeck.
-
And here is Gosling's number:

Here is Ariana Grande is a funny spoof of Moulin Rouge from last night’s SNL:

So that was Andrea Bocelli and his son singing for the In Memoriam segment.
-
I'm sorry I missed John Cena.
You Cena one, you Cena’m all.
-
Whatever one thinks about Mr. Cena, let me just say that this "thing" where grown men and women groom themselves to look like prepubescent children makes me sick. Sorry, that's the way I feel and if you watch episode one of Sami you'll see that.
-

I'm not a fan of it, either. :P
