Well, you've read the notes, the notes were both ponderous and imponderable, and now it is time for you to post until the ponderous and imponderable cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: MELLIFLUOUS!

Good morning, all!
-
I slept very well last night, but everything is off kilter this morning, from my mental state to my breakfast
-
BK, sorry to read about your book issues. I've had an orchestration problem with the ballet working my last nerve since Monday.
-
The leading lady's first solo in the ballet is with a guitar; in the original 1877 ballet, it's not a guitar but some exotic guitar-like Indian instrument. I'm sure the accompaniment was no guitar, probably strings doing some sort of a strum, ming effect, and I'm guessing the melody was played by a solo violin or flute.
-
Well, the new ballet is set on a western movie location, and I've got a guitar in the orchestration; I decided the perfect solo instrument wasn't a flute or violin, but a harmonica, only a harmonica cannot play the melody and its extended range. So, what sounds like a harmonica? The closest thing I could think of was a melodica, so I wrote a melodica solo for the pianist to play, since the only piano-melodica reference I could think of is in the original score for You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown.
-
Only . . . the entire melodica experience for Indiana University has been a fiasco. We repl;aced it with that damned violin solo which I asked to be played "like a country fiddlew." No, he played it as if it were a violin concerto, not the Grand Ole Opry. Yesterday morning, the conductor and I settled on clarinet solo, which fucks up the accompaniment, but I don't have time to worry about that now. I called Doug, who said he would take care of the situation, and I went to my doctor's appointment. Last afternoon and evening was an exchange of emails between conductor, orchestra manager, Doug, and me beginning with an emailsaying "so it will be a violin solo," followed by my email "WTF? I thought we settled on clarinet?"
-
Good morning
-
I missed the 1119 home last night so had to wait around for the 1219
-
I finally wrote "I don't care what you do. I'm out." My only requirement was that if they went with the violin, it better sound like a country fiddle.
I forgot to mention that the orchestra manager found a melodica player and the conductor nixed him/her.
-
The upside was there was a pizza place, with plenty of seating, open and I had a delicious slice of mushroom pizza and a non alcoholic beer while waiting for my train.
-
The train headed where I wanted to go had a different ultimate destination than the ones I usually take, and that particular line uses the newer updated trains with plenty of power point so I could recharge my phone on the trip to my station.
-
Also I had a private car…which appeared to have just been cleaned.
-
And I finally figured out the exact right car to get into so I exited into my station platform directly in front of the stairs I needed to the parking lot.
-
The downside was I didn’t get into the house until past 2 am
-
Then I couldn’t settle until 3 so I’m exhausted right now
-
And I have a stress test this afternoon
-
No caffeine or chocolate this morning .
And I can’t eat within 4 hours of the test
-
So I better have some breakfast right now
-
Good morning, all.

DR elmroe3003, perhaps you could do that bit where someone bashes someone else over the head with a violin.

TOD:
I though Helen Mirren was fabulous in The Queen.
-
I'm sure I've seen her in lots of other stuff, but nothing comes to mind at the moment.
-
Well, here we are, even though it’s a Thursday. It’s time for another op’nin’, another show.
Matilda. And from what I’m seeing (when I can afford to glance up from the music) and hearing, it’s stupendous.
-
What a strange set of problems, DR Elmore.
Could that pianist simply not handle the melodica? I haven’t tried to play one, so I don’t know what’s involved. You’d certainly have to get used to the small keys, but there’s probably more to it than that.
-
Maybe forget the instruments and make it a pie fight?
-
Now you all know why I get the big bucks in my consulting business.
-
Vixmom, I shall be ready for an order of that in about an hour. Thanks in advance.
-
Later!

Indiana is a classical music schookl; no doubling classses and absolutely no prep for going out into the world and working in a Broadway pit or playing pop gigs.

Right. And I’m not a bit surprised that they’ve excelled in the other respects.
-
Feel better vibes for DR JANE and congrats on your new millstone.
-
I like Ayn Rand - a few years ago there was a three movie series of Atlas Shrugged which was not very good.......
I liked Barbara Brandon's book about her husband Nathaniel & Rand....
-
I like Helen Mirrin, too. Probably The Queen is my favorite performance of hers, but I like her in everything I've seen.
-
Page Three.

Jane, congratulations on your new millstone last night!
-
.
Really? There's a National Spray Tanning Day?
-
George, glad to hear how smoothly rehearsals are going!
-
Congratulations to BK on the e-book!
-
TOD: I have read "Atlas Shrugged" and "The Fountainhead". I enjoyed them as good reads, but ignored some of the political twaddle in them.
I love the movie of "The Fountainhead". Rand is credited with writing the screenplay. It is quite the potboiler, seething with unrequited lust and a lot of hitting-us-over-the-head proselytizing with her particular point of view.
Great Max Steiner score. Makes the whole picture worth watching!!
-
I slept so very well it's embarrassing to speak about it.
We are having quite a bit of air quality issues lately. In addition to massive amounts of pollen (mostly from pine trees but other flowering trees are contributing), local agricultural entities are doing controlled burns of their land preparing for planting. Yesterday, the smoke was everywhere you could see. And I could smell it as I breathed it during my visit to the post office.
-
DR Freddie, are you always so cheerful?
You give me a lift with your posts.

When I was FJL here, I think "FJL" was a lot less cheerful.

And merriment, laughter, and legs.
-
CONGRATULATIONS to DR Jane on your lofty new perch in the HHW firmament!!!!
-
DR George a couple of years ago mail was getting stolen from locked and unlocked mailboxes around here. For the locked ones the master keys had been stolen. Fortunately our building didn't have mail stolen.
-
The other day I noticed our mailman having difficulty getting the door to all the boxes to shut correctly. I hope they won't need to change it out, and like you, we can't retrieve our mail.
-
I heard about Ayn Rand in college, read Atlas Shrugged on the recommendation of friends, and loved it. I later read The Fountainhead, Anthem, and We the Living. So obviously I was into her stuff back then, and through my twenties. I actually liked certain events and settings in Atlas enough to read it again a few years later.
In L.A. it just happened that a few friends were into Nathaniel Branden's writings, and one took a series of classes he used to give now and then. This was in the 70s, and his office was at the west end of the Sunset Strip, either in the Hamburger Hamlet building or another right there, I forget now. I eventually fell off the wagon and didn't pursue any of that much further, but I was later very interested in how that filming of Atlas transpired. But believe it or not, I've never gotten around to watching it. I'd still totally enjoy doing that, just to see what they came up with and how they did it. I don't expect greatness, but I can't resist checking it out. I'd also like to see the Helen Mirren thing, just because.

From DR Singdaw:
I don't want to keep anyone in suspense. The package was a beautifully bound and produced bookstop of a book in a slipcase cover - the genealogy of my father's side of the family. It has been several years in the making. A family foundation paid for the production and distribution to all the desendents free of cost.
Not just a convenience then to go to an isolated area at night, but something worth collecting :)
-
LOL Singdaw.
-
From DR John:
M. Emmet Walsh has died. Wonderful character actor.
:(
-
Thank you DR Laura.
-
From DR Ron:
I hurt and cringe just seeing it.
If I had known how large it was going to be I would have begged for Mohs instead so only what was needed was removed.
-
From DR Vixmom:
We’re working with Grandmama and Grandad at the moment …but the kid might have ideas if his own
LOL, I watited so long to be a Grammy I said the kid wasn't permitted to have ideas of her own with me. Keith, fine.
-
Thank you Vixmom.
-
I just remembered this, actually for the first time in many years:
My interest in learning to fly was actually inspired by the scene in Atlas in which the lead character gets in a plane and flies herself to discovering where the big MacGuffin is happening. Possessing that kind of skill and independence planted the seed, but when a pilot friend took me up for a ride around the L.A. area on the morning of Christmas Eve 1975, that clinched it. A couple of years later I had my license.
-
I missed the 1119 home last night so had to wait around for the 1219
I had to keep reading to understand you were referring to the trains ;D
-
The downside was I didn’t get into the house until past 2 am
That is late.
-
And I have a stress test this afternoon
Good vibes with the test.
-
No caffeine or chocolate this morning .
And I can’t eat within 4 hours of the test
Sending more vibes.

Feel better vibes for DR JANE and congrats on your new millstone.
Thank you & thank you, not that I had noticed the second one.

Thanks. I still haven't looked to see where I am ;D

DR Jane, when I had a basal cell thing removed from my forearm a few years ago, I'd already had two Mohs procedures, so I was surprised to hear that this wouldn't be one. They said Mohs is more for the face and head where appearances matter, and that insurance wouldn't cover it elsewhere, anyway. Or maybe the office wouldn't clutter up the other surgeon's schedule. Maybe both, I forget now. But it turned out to be literally a five-minute procedure, the arm healed fine, and the scar eventually shrunk in size. I can hardly even detect the actual spot now.

I get it, and Mohs is mostly to avoid a scar on a face. As I have said, this spot is extremely sensitive and difficult. Maybe TMI, but I cannot even sit on the toilet.
-
I, too, love Helen Mirren; she's fearless. Has she ever talked about making Caligula?
-
Gratuitous post 101!
-
I love Helen Mirren. Her Prospero was good, but I didn’t like the movie.
-
I'm up, I'm up - six hours of sleep.
-
Galley was waiting for me and it's now approved. I did go through it all to make sure everything was fine and it was.
-
Waiting on the cover.
-
The Melodica is a breeze to play - can be played directly with mouth to instrument or they have an attachment to play through so it's easier to handle. I own one, actually. I first used a Melodica in the Ring Lardner revue I created called Shut Up, He Explained, and I've used it in a few other shows. I even had a kid play it in one of the Kritzerland shows.
-
Food will be here at one.
-
Fried catfish. 50% off coupon. I will say, that the first time I ordered fried catfish from Uncle Andre's, which was in 2022, I think, it was 14.98. It's now 22.98. Every restaurant in LA is off the charts with the prices.
-
You can still get a chili burger from Tommy's for about six bucks, though, and In 'N' Out is still very cheap.
-
But a sandwich, even in a coffee shop is fifteen to twenty bucks. Pasta is over twenty now, everywhere. Chicken dishes, fish dishes - ridiculous prices.
-
I am serving Bach-lava for Bach's birthday.

George, glad to hear how smoothly rehearsals are going!
Thanks, Freddie!
-
Oh, look! It's Page Five! ;D
-
Watching a weird silent Tod Browning called The Unknown.
-
Lon Chaney plays a carnival freak with no arms (except he really has them), but uses his feet to smoke, play a guitar and throw knives. A youngish Joan Crawford is his love, who hates being touched by men’s hands. It’s not going to end well.

Too bad you don't like avacados. I think they are excellent with eggs.
-
Catfish was excellent - used to be three pieces, now two for almost double the dough. Great potato salad. Missing the piece of cornbread, so I got a credit for that.
-
MR BK good news about the galley.
-
Yes DR GEORGE there was a different cast in each of the three DVDs. It was just one of the problems.
DR CHAS SMITH I loved the story and the characters - and like you I mostly skipped the political diatribes.
AND it is set in present day America - I was hoping it would be set at the time the book was written - 1957.
And there were so many changes that were completely unnecessary....the most egregious for me being that the bracelet of Reardon steel that Mrs. Reardon gives to Dagny is changed to a necklace.....for no reason at all......
-
Good afternoon.
-
A hike in town today, so no snakes.
-
Dear Vixmom,
You forgot to cook the eggs.
-
MR BK good news about the galley.
Yes, good news :)

Still a hike :)

LOL, I like sunny side up so they looked a bit cooked to me.

Snakes!

I finally got my replacement MasterCard and added it to my Amazon and PayPal accounts.....and removed the old one that I canceled last week.
-
Let the shopping begin!
-
Anyone finish the book yet? :)
-
No covers today - hopefully, tomorrow.
-
I think six or seven people, maybe even more, purchased the eBook and hopefully those will show in the sales rank, which isn't showing at all at the moment, which is irritating.
-
The minute you make a sale it's supposed to trigger the sales rank.
-
I'm triggered that it didn't trigger.
-
I don't know.
-
Don't ask me.
-
Listening to some music, then will go sit on my couch like so much demented, coverless fish.
-
Roussel is now playing - a fine French composer from France. A fifteen-minute piece, Bacchus and Ariane.
-
It would seem to me that this day is NOT flying by.

I thought it was around five and it's only three.

No one here but us chickens.

Happy opening to ChasSmith.

Is there gaslighting going on?

See?

There are 20 Guests reading the board.
There's got to be at least one gaslighter in that group. :)

I just bought an e-book, but now can't find if I still have Kindle.
[Later correction: I was able to access it read it without a Kindle.]
-
Does it count for the numbers if I haven't been able to access it ...
-
or is it just the purchase that counts for the numbers?
-
Just go back to the page - you can read it on their downloadable device. You don't have to purchase a Kindle to read it.
-
Thanks, BK!
I found the place to click.
-
I corrected my earlier post.
-
The photos are exciting!
-
Band rehearsal just ended. We finished act one and got through most of act two. The concert master's playing is amazing, and he's tossing off those solo scales and arpeggios like they were nothing. I love the saxes, and I think it's sounding quite nice.
-
My mind is now fried, and I wish I had a sandwich so I can chill out and relax. Naybe I will hit the Amsterdam Deli for a delivery.
-
Galley was waiting for me and it's now approved. I did go through it all to make sure everything was fine and it was.
Very good news!
-
I need to sit less at the computer.

I need to sit less at the computer.
Jane - sending more quick-healing vibes!

Thank you. I am not sitting at my desk more than five minutes at a time which helps a wee bit.

Due to planned maintenance, the water to the building was shut off from 9:00am until about 4:30pm. And even though I had saved water in the bathtub to be able to flush the toilets, we were alerted not to flush them.
-
Then, once the water was off, the toilet valve in the wall, which we have been telling management needed to be replaced for over a year, started gushing water. It went all over the bathroom floor, and then started seeping into our foyer.
-
Management didn't seem too keen about treating it as an emergency.
-
But finally, the faulty valve was replaced.

All that is left to do is a lot of mopping, cleaning, and laundry.

And the water is now back on.

Back to the Tod Browning set.

Do you like the yolks to be solid?

That’s like cooking your steaks well done

Singdaw I am sorry about your eventful day.

2 steak burritos, 1 chicken quesadilla, 1burrito supreme, 2 hard shell taco supremes
$36!!!???

That used to be under $20

Then I had an unexpected nap

I’m still tired so off to bed
