Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke of This Is Your Life, and now it is time for the This Is Your Life cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: JUBILATION!
-
Notes satiated. Salivated.
-
Ralph Edwards is the absolute worst. I watched that Lou Costello one once and it made me ill.
-
To be fair, he has a thankless task, generally pulling people out of some private moment into a spectacle, and trying to make it seem like he’s doing them a big favor rather than imposing on them. But man, the insensitive, obnoxious way he handles it just oozes slime.
-
I've only seen clips of This Is Your Life. The original broadcasts were before my time. ::)
Of course, there's YouTube, but I just haven't taken the time. I did watch the show for Alexis Smith, since she was in Follies at the time.

Good morning, friends.

He weren't nobody's dunce.

Our weekend snowstorm that was supposed to be a foot was really kind of a non-event.

But we're supposed to get several more inches today.

Who decides these things?

We used to be shown the "You Are There" mini documentaries on a projector at school growing up.

I remember watching game shows when I would be home from school sick.

I know there were others that I'm forgetting.
On Sunday mornings there was Wonderama with Bob McAllister.

Thanks to all who watched the interview and commented here. It's nice to be noticed.

Up early and headed to physical therapy in about half an hour.
Nick & Nora the parakeets are not happy about being uncovered while it is still dark outside.
-
Good news about the book.
-
I liked You Are There ... I think it was on Friday nights on CBS after The Twilight Zone and before the local news.
-
This is probably the most invasive episode of This Is Your Life.....the edited version that was shown on AMC decades ago.

Good morning, all!
-
DR Jrand73, I haven't got to your interview yet, but I will. I've l;oved your previous ones.
-
I got up at 6:00 this morning. I have a busier day than usual. At 10, I have a zowith m,y new accountant about my 2023 taxes, This afternoon, a friend I haven't seen since before thev pandemic is coming to visit,. so I need to tidy the apartment, and that's going to take some time.

Yesterday I had a meeting about the ballet discussion before the screening of the ballet on Friday. The logistics of getting on and off the stage before the screening and getting myself into a seat have me petrified, and I am sorry I agreed to participate in it. I'd be much more comfortable sitting at home watching it on my computer. Still, there's no backing out now, so what happens happens.
-
I finally got home a little after 10 last night and went right to bed
-
I am now caught up although I haven’t had time to watch any interviews yet, maybe at lunchtime today.
-
Right now I must shower and dress and go to work
-
After getting out of this bed of course.
-
Maybe I’ll Wordle first
-
Oh TOD, I’m a little too young (not something I often get to say these days) to remember Queen For A Day or This Is Your Life, but I remember enjoying Concentration, Password, Truth or Consequences, and what was that one with Bob Barker? Where the audience would come in costume to get picked and then get to choose between door #1, 2 or 3?
-
Alright Wordle, then I shall sally forth into the day.

Can you request they have a wheelchair ready for getting around inside the theater?
-
An excellent idea, DR ChasSmith.
-
Today I'm back at a Drowsy rehearsal, easy peasy.
Then this evening I'm seeing a screening of Harold and Maude at the Bedford Playhouse. That should be great fun. I have the Criterion Blu-ray here but haven't actually watched the movie since whenever I last saw it in a theeder in L.A.
-
An excellent idea, DR ChasSmith.
Well, I hope it is. I don't think I've been inside that particular space, but this is the NYPL and Lincoln Center, so one would hope that Accessibility with a capital A would not be an issue.

No rush DR ELMORE & DR VIXMOM - it'll keep - it won't go bad like MR BK's chili.

DR VIXMOM I think you are thinking of Let's Make A Deal with Monty Hall.

TOD:
"Queen For A Day" was a favorite show, and Jack Bailey was a good host, I thought. BUT....I recall one show that put me off the whole idea of what they were supposed to be doing. One of the women had a true tragedy in her life. The others were minor considerations comparatively. And then one of the minor considerations was selected. I was watching with some cousins, and we began yelling at the TV. It was such a lousy choice to ignore the neediest woman. Up to that show, I always thought they made good choices. I could not watch it after that show.
"This is Your Life" was interesting only in terms of who they brought out to surprise the unsuspecting (??) guest. A lot of the shows seemed phony to me.

My next audiobook is called Pretty Ugly by David Sedaris. Ot is apparently a children’s book and is all of 3 minutes long. I’d better hurry up and listen to it. Libby tells me 10 people or so are waiting for it.

I had another disgustingly wonderful night of sleep.

He became famous as a Borscht Belt comedian.

And now for something completely different!
I have just seen a news report and video of the collapse of the Francis Scott Key bridge in Baltimore. A cargo ship caused the collapse. Cars plunged into the bay. Seven people are missing. Two were recoverd, one of them in critical condition.

By phony, do you mean it felt like the subjects of the show knew in advance they were going to be honored?

Yes, and sometimes that they were glad to see old faces from their past.

I spoke to Tiffany at the NYTPL. There is a wheelchair, and she will wheel me on and off stage. That's a relief.

I don't care if people see me on a walker. I do not want people to watch the ordeal opf my getting out of a chair and getting myself on the walker before dragging my sorry ass offtage on a walker.

I won't know until I hear it on Friday night. The changes were given to the orchestra. I suspect I will rewrite it after this run.

Got a new Lang Lang2-CD set from the library. The first is all Camille Saint-Saens. The second is Saint-Saens and contemporaries, including several women composers. Lovely stuff.

Finishing up Anyone But You. It’s not bad but not good either. The two leads have impossibly chiseled bodies, which we do see a lot of.

Well, Tonight's rehearsal of Incorruptible is a full run...the very first full run!
-
Watching The Color Purple. Dreadful. It has important stamped all over it. But the songs are lackluster and the script is too truncated. No character development. No interest. Only Halle Bailey as Celie’s sister has made any impression.

And it's the first rehearsal where they are OFF-BOOK! :o

You are correct! Let's make a Deal.with Monty Hall!
-
The movie is finally over. The second half was better than the first, but so many questionable elements. The lesbian relationship between Celie and Shug is downplayed to the point of not being there. As much as I didn’t like Spielberg’s version (and I didn’t), it’s better than this.

It was great seeing Harold and Maude. A perfect presentation of the film, of course, but I also appreciated it much more than I ever could in years long past. I'm actually glad it had been so long for me.
It's a gross understatement to say they don't make 'em like this any more. It could never happen.
