But I did win $300.
HAPPY EASTER to those DRs that celebrate.
And a Very Happy Birthday to (former) DR Ann!!
DR Freddie - once, back in the day, at the office I had one of those "While your were out" messages - Please call back Mr. Wolfe.
When I called, it was the number for the Bridgeport Zoo.
Lovely review by John G of "Directed by" in the Notes!

I managed to spill a container of walnut halves all over the floor this morning so the vacuum will be coming out shortly to clean up the mess.
Amazon is horribly slow with that these days, DR Elmore. It makes no sense. My review of the new book took six days to post. I believe that’s my personal best. Maybe I can make it to seven next time - and after that, who knows? Sky’s the limit!

I think that when the book is new and it’s not a verified purchase, that first posting takes forever. Then others get through much quicker. At least that has seemed to be the pattern on a few that I’ve paid attention to. Or, who knows, maybe there’s just literally no rhyme or reason to it, no matter how you try to analyze it.
Since this is best site on all of the internet, I will ask my question here.
Next season at my theeder we will do two musicals of course....one director wants to do MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS (and he can have that Ken Ludwig abomination) - so I am looking for a funny comedy with a known title that I can offer.
We have an audience that pretends that sex and woke and pajamas do not exist - so it must be a "family" comedy in language and situation although there is some "wiggle" room there - so to speak.
We have done most of the classics & Neil Simon's chestnuts recently - so I am looking for something else.
And I know I will get lots of suggestions here.
But I did win $300.
DR Elmore, are there likely to be any reviews of the ballet?

Your guess is as good as mine.
Actually, the haters are already out for blood.

I appreciate your thoughts on Once, Michael G. I wish I liked the movie a little more. But I kind of tired of the main characters. I liked them better in the stage version. I also liked the immersive nature of the staging. I saw it where I usher. It was there only for a night, and we had trouble getting people to use the onstage bar.

The purists who don’t think a note should have been reorchestrated? The people who long for black and red face?
Happy Easter to all who observe and celebrate!

What are other examples of film to stage adaptations, outside of Disney / animation / superhero genres?
I'll be seeing a controversial new example, Opening Night, in a few weeks. Reviews that polarized for a composer I like kind of draw me like a moth to a flame.

Good night, friends.

"Nine" and Sweet Charity" are adaptations of Fellini films, for example.
"A Little Night Music" is an adaptation of an Ingmar Bergman film.
Happy Easter to everyone. The newest Broadway Radio Show episode is now up and it's another DIVA Shout Out show as we look at the career of UK star Maria Friedman, who has moved on to become a director and also a Tony Award front-runner this season for her work on the smash revival of Sondheim's Merrily We Roll Along. But on this episode we look back at her work onstage in the West End and her recording career with lots of wonderful musical selections!

Amazon just sent an email. The review is up.

Jrand, has your theater already done "Cactus Flower" - better known to modern audiences as the play that was remade as "Just Go With It" with Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston

elmore's Kritzer World review is lovely - I'll include it in the notes. And Freddie's Directed by review is also lovely. Both are much appreciated.
Hot dogs are in the oven being broiled.
Thanks DRs elmore and John G for sharing your Once thoughts. It's fun seeing different reactions. I hope George will chime in after his rehearsals.

I love the original Opening Night and most of Cassavettes’s movies. It would be hard for me to find anyone who could equal Gena Rowlands in anything. But this show intrigues, based on the reviews.
Then at 3 we all had a video call with the Vixter, Vixhubby with special appearance by Vixson who has now learned the party trick of delivering a wide toothless grin when his name is called.
I see that the New York Times reviewer had a similar reaction, so it's not just me. I'll be interested to see what other DRs think!
Are you taking a trip to London? If so, that sounds like a lot of fun.
100% agreement. I think for anyone who liked the subtle charms of the movie, the stage version was a heavy handed affair that negated all that subtlety. If I never saw the film, I might have enjoyed it somewhat.
One of my all-time favorites is The Spitfire Grill. I love that musical (and it doesn't hurt that Liz Callaway is on the original cast album). I've seen two different productions and loved both. I think that it would be hard to screw up this one.
Did someone mention Waitress the musical? Or one I’m about to see, Hairspray?
Here's a positive Opening Night review:

So we'll see. I haven't gone to something like this in years, pretty much since we moved from Boston and saw some really weird things at American Repertory Theatre. I don't think anything can be worse than Has Washington Legs but who knows...
[Interesting. Although they reviewed the actual show and the article I posted was more about the audience. ::)

Don't worry, it's not hard to find pans that review the actual show! But the reasoning for the pans leads me to believe I might like it.
