Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke of glasses, miracles, and the potential return of the Kritzerland cabaret shows, and now it is time for you to post until the potential cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: AEGIS!
-
Congrats, BK, on the modern major miracle AND the potential new home of the Kritzerland shows!

Good morning, all!
-
Terrible night of sleep. Sometime around midnight, I tossed all the cats off the bed and remade it before I got back in. I couldn't sleep, I tossed about, my legs cramped and would not get comfortable. It was a really bad night.
-
Yesterday afternoon, I managed to do something to my TV remote that froze it. I can adjust volume, but I can no longer change channels. It's stuck on MSNBC. Hopefully, I can get Jen to come and check it out. Shes the most savvy technical person I know.
-
DR Vixmom, did you send me an email yesterday? I looked all over my computer and I cannot find it!
-
DR JohnG, I got a suspicious email yesterday, supposedly from you, with this address: majordanh2d0@outlook.com
-
Yesterday, Doug and I finished the Act Two score. Today I will befin a new orchestration for the Charleston, keeping what I liked of the original and hopefully fixing what I did not.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Well, dear DRs, it’s Tuesday. Which can only mean one thing: Drowsy!!
Sitzprobe today, and a first run-through on Thursday. Then there’s a whole week off before their tech week.
-
I'm up!
Slept well! Could sleep more, but there are things to do and people arriving soon to do things in the yard.
It's a cloudy day and the forecast is for rain, rain, and then more rain.
That could mean the people arriving soon won't arrive at all, but I never know until they don't arrive.
Sigh.
-
DR Vixmom, did you send me an email yesterday? I looked all over my computer and I cannot find it!
I did. I’ll try again
-
BK: Was Catalina Bar and Grill located around the corner on Cahuenga or Ivar at one time, or am I thinking of two different things?
Congrats, and hope this comes to pass.
-
TOD:
I could rave about various dishes of the Chinese food persuasion, but my favorite of all time was called "Shan Dong Chicken". It was a Szechuan chicken prepared as the house special of the Shan Dong Restaurant in downtown Oakland's Chinatown district.
SO GOOD!
Their chicken and green beans over rice was great, too. I had a variety of things there, family style, with co-workers, but my favorite was still the Shan Dong chicken. Also, they had fried green beans! Just terrific.
I love good Dim Sum, too, and Oakland had one I loved. It closed years before I moved, but I have fond memories of it. In fact, I took Rodzinski there for lunch when he was visiting the Bay Area. I loved sticky rice and all the wonderful dumplings and things that were brought around on trays.
I haven't been to many Japanese restaurants, but when I went, I always looked for poo-poo platters. I don't know if that's how it's spelled, but they brought a grill to your table and had things you could cook while you are things that were already cooked. I also loved a dish that had piles of fried shrimp and noodles and other delights.

Good morning

Healing vibes to Jane

Looking forward to hearing about new Kritzerland shows

George write last night: "Of course, I haven't purchased ANY lottery ticket in YEARS, but why can't I win anyway??"
This is one of those quirks you wish they'd get resolved once and for all. It's unfair to people who don't buy tickets, isn't it?
-
:)
-
Page Two!
-
singdaw, vixmom and George, thanks for the encouraging thoughts last night.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Thank for the heads up on the fraudulent email, Elmore.
-
Congratulations, BK, on the miracle. Best wishes on the new home for Kritzerland shows.
-
I usher tonight for The Pirates of Penzance at Opera San Antonio. Long, long day until then.
-
It’s raining now.
-
DR ELMORE sometimes the first row on your remote has some choices like:
TV, SATELLITE CABLE, DVD VCR
Make sure you press TV and see if that helps.
-
I usher tonight for The Pirates of Penzance
Speaking of Modern Major Miracles
-
well, Modern Major Generals, anyway.
-
Hoping your auditions tonight go well, Jrand!
-
Pirates!
-
Jen came down and looked over my remote. She said that she didn't think the remote was the problem; it was the cable box, So, she rebooted the cable box, said she had to get back to a meeting - she has an advertising firm, The Watsons - but she would com,e back after and take the cable box to Spectrum for a new one and a new remote. About 30 minutes later, I checked the TV, which had taken forever to reboot, turned it on, and everything worked! All is good, thanks to Jen.
-
I once played the Major General in my acting days, so I'm very fond of The Pirates of Penzance. I hope it's a good production, DR John G!
-
DR MichaelG, have a wonderful time in London.
-
From DR Singdaw:
This is kind of how I feel as I return to work tomorrow morning:
;D
-
Healing vibes to Jane
Thank you.
-
I've gone rogue, actually doing something that seems to be common in Australia. Hopefully it works better than what has been done so far.
-
Hoping your auditions tonight go well, Jrand!
Ditto!
-
Great to read all the good news in the notes, BK!
-
Thanks for all the travel vibes. I’ve arrived and now just need to plow through the rest of the day to try avoiding jet lag.
-
TOD: my all time favorite Chinese dish is the suan la chow sho at Mary Chung’s in Cambridge, Mass. It’s dumplings in a spicy sauce, but I’ve never had anything quite like her sauce anywhere else. Mary retired a year or two ago, but we have the happy memories.
-
Tuesday afternoon greetings! I slept fine, except for the hour or so in the middle of the night when I didn’t. Got up just in time to log onto my back to back virtual classes.
-

We never ate there, however, our favorite Chinese retaurant was Joyce Chen's in Cambridge.
-
Growing up there were many excellent Chinese restaurants in the area.
-
We had excellent Chinese food at our hotels in Hong Kong & Singapore, especially in Singapore where it was rated the best Chinese restaurant in all of the city.
-
One of the best meals we have ever had was at the Budist Temple on Lantau Island in Hong Kong.
-
We have Dong's in my town.....and I especially like the General Tsao's chicken and the Mongolian beef.
-
DR JANE has gone Australian.....I hope it works for her.
-
DR FREDDIE & DR JANE thanks for the audition vibes for tonight.
I hope for at least 6 men.....then I can have my two lines.....for the dance audition.
-
As for Japanese food, there was the restaurant in the hills of Hollywood back in the early 70's we liked.
-
I wish I could say we had great meals in Japan, however, when you are a vegetarian with food allergies and a delicate stomach, ordering off of their menus seemed risky ;D
-
A small sample of the menus we saw.

Thank you very much :)

What shows are on your list at this point (besides "Opening Night")
Two concerts: the English Concert at Wigmore Hall, and the London Symphony with Alison Balsom at the Barbican.

Good luck you get 6 men!
-
There was a very good Japanese restaurant across from the theater in New Haven, CT.
-
I loved the Japanese restaurant in Ashland which has sadly closed.
-
My favorite dish to order there was the eggplant roll. While not eggplant, I can get equally delicious rolls at a little place in Milwaukee. While the atmosphere isn't as nice, and it doesn't overlook a creek, it is a great place to go with a young one.
-

MichaelG will you have Indian food while you are there?
-
Good afternoon, friends!
-
A busy day back at work.
-
.
-
Who decides these things?
-
MichaelG will you have Indian food while you are there?
Ha! That’s what I am doing now, waiting for the check. I’m following suggestions from Chetna Makan’s series on Indian food in London. So far so good.

Are you on this trip with anyone or by yourself?
Just me. I’m retired but my wife is not. I’ll be meeting a music notation buddy for lunch while I’m here.
-
We never ate there, however, our favorite Chinese retaurant was Joyce Chen's in Cambridge.
Joyce Chen was very good. But Mary Chung was a favorite MIT hangout.

Keith, my husband, doesn't recall hearing about Mary Chung when he worked in Cabridge. Often when we went to Joyce Chen's she would walk around chatting with customers. I still have the little panda bear pin she handed out after seeing the bears.
-
I have a gift subscription to give away for The Borowitz Report (David Borowitz, the humorist) which I believe is in the form of an email newsletter.
Any DR interested?
-
Jen is a gem!
Say THAT ten times fast.
-
DR Jane, I hope you continue to get more comfortable very quickly.

Lots of good news from BK in today's Notes.

~~~WORKING-IT-OUT VIBES~~~ for Kritzerland!!!!
Thank you. Only 19 days left to recover.
Sure. If it’s available.
When was he there? I think it opened sometime around 1979-1981.
-
Made some decisions, went to the mail place, got Taco Bell for food (1000 calories exactly), ate it, and look how late in the afternoon it is.
We were only in MA a couple of years, somewhere between '81 & April of '83.
We lived in Acton. We hated leaving. Special was swimming in nearby Waldon's Pond.
-
Richard went to the doctor today and they ruled out things that can be tested for. Seems he has just a nasty cold.
-
Michael, what years did you live in Cambridge?
I guess that is good news. Continued get well vibes for Richard.
Good news, Ginny!
There was a 50-piece orchestra for Penzance, so the music sounded glorious. It was a dress rehearsal, so not everyone sang their strongest. The Mabel was great, the Frederic was really good. The rest of the cast was here and there. The Pirate King seemed to be holding back, but the Major General gave a hood George Rose impersonation.
-
The kids screamed snd screamed when appropriate, at the end of songs and scenes. They let Mabel sing all of Poor Wandering One before turning on the applause.
-
I sang along with the whole show.
-
An ugly storm has whipped up. Hail is falling. The power flickered off twice.
-
The hail has stopped, but my rain gauge says we got an inch of rain in the last 15 minutes
-
I think that's enough to make me go to sleep.
-
Of the thunder allows
Back in 1982 at the 5th Avenue Theatre (https://www.5thavenue.org/about/past-shows/), my family went to see a nation tour of PIRATES OF PENZANCE starring Peter Noone, James Belushi.
-
We knew who Peter Noone was because my parents had a record of British bands of the 1960s, and Herman's Hermits had a song on that album. But at the time, the only thing we knew about James (now Jim) Belushi, was that he was John Belushi's younger brother. :)
-
From what I remember, everyone in the family thoroughly enjoyed the show.
-
Yikes! :o
Oh, my!
Have arrived in Tampa, Fla. First business trip I’ve been on in a decade.
-
Big funeral biz convention. Come one, come all!
-
Connecting flight in Dallas was delayed, so got here late. Turbulent flights!
-
But I did enjoy the Mary Tyler Moore documentary on the planes. Fascinating person. Good interview footage. The usual throwing in of randoms to give their thoughts. Joel Grey gives a quote with no explanation. Reese Witherspoon… Much insight comes from Grant Tinker’s son. No mention of Mary’s variety show. Still good.
-
It was literally the only movie I could fathom watching.
-
Finished with my non-viewing.
-
Listening to some Mozart wind concertos - Mr. Ormandy conducting, of course. Last eight albums.
-
I can't begin to imagine why we're on page five.
-
And yet - we're on page five.
-
Must be Mozart.
-
And his damn wind concertos.
-
I believe someone has turned on some button that makes page five endless.
-
See? They had to turn it off just to prove me wrong.
-
I can't begin to imagine why we're on page six.
-
Must be Mozart.
-
And his damn wind concertos.
-
HA! The patented HHW vibes worked.
We had a lot of good folks tonight....and I got seven guys so that I could work out the pattern I created.
The piano player was late, so we started with the dance portion....there were a lot of girls as well.....so we had almost 30 minutes to work the combinations.
AND I got my phone synched to the BlueTooth speaker so it was much more convenient to use than a CD player - remember those?
-
I think the director & musical director came up with a good combination of performers - and we will have a good show.
I am always shocked at the level of delusion that is on display at auditions.....
-
Have arrived in Tampa, Fla. First business trip I’ve been on in a decade.
Hope you have a great time, Rodzinski...and have productive business events!
-
The only business trips that I've taken were one-day local drive to events. ::)
-
I may have to play Cord Elam, which is okay. I like the show a lot and that will be fun.
That will happen if another OLD guy doesn't want to play anything but Andrew Carnes - so time will tell.
And I will choreograph a nice dance break for Cord & Aunt Eller if it comes to pass.
-
Rain is predicted for Indiana for the NEXT THREE DAYS!
-
Big funeral biz convention. Come one, come all!
I'm sure it'll be a blast for the participants. ;)
-
I was just about to ask if they mentioned Mary's variety show. I've seen some clips and it was pretty weird, but The Manhattan Transfer were involved, so there was that, which I thoroughly enjoyed!
-
Congrats, Jrand, on the good folks AND the synching of the Bluetooth! :D
-
Michael, what years did you live in Cambridge?
Cambridge for undergrad, Allston for grad school, then Arlington after that until we moved to California in '95. So 20 years altogether. I worked in Maynard for the first few years out of school, so I'd drive through a little bit of Acton on my commute.
-
I got to watch American Fiction and The Greatest Night in Pop on the flight and enjoyed them both.
-
Enjoy your trip, DR Rodzinski.
-
Well, this is really cool...check out this guy's videos! He's a composer and artist, and creates art pieces that are actually playable sheet music!
https://www.youtube.com/@Sympawnies/videos (https://www.youtube.com/@Sympawnies/videos)
-
He also has his own website:
Too many notes.
Someone said that once.
Page six?
-
Still?
-
Doesn't seem right.
-
Doesn't seem left either.
-
Just seems like a little too long on one page.
-
That's what it seems like.
-
George is here.
-
But he's down a rabbit hole.
-
I will say this - I do not care for page seven.
-
But at least we got there.
-
Barely.
Here's another:
Here's a very short Viola Purrlude in D (https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=-ICh9zhr87Y). :)
-
I need a damn foot rub and neck massage is what I need.
-
The artwork is beautiful and the music videos are really cool!
-
I just do.
-
I'll check out the videos.
-
Hot shower coming up.
-
I need it.
-
I'll try to be in bed by two.
-
We'll see if that works.
-
The violin concerto currently playing, which I talk about in the notes, is really gorgeous. Richard Yardumian.
-
Tomorrow night, we're going to have a pick-up rehearsal for Incorruptible.
-
A couple of the actresses can't be there, but they're solid on their roles, so the director isn't worried.
-
I haven't been in very many shows that had pick-up reheasals.
-
Are you picking up your light cues?
-
We usually just took the time off and then came back after working on our lines ourselves.
-
Or are you just there for support?
-
Gratuitous Post #201!!
-
Well, guess we should lock this thing up for the night.
-
Perhaps we've gone about as fer as we can go.
-
Are you picking up your light cues?
Or are you just there for support?
Support and probably line cues, if needed (which it shouldn't). We can't have the pick-up rehearsal at the space, so it'll just be a quick line-through so that they have this reminder of everything before another audience on Thursday.
-
Perhaps the farmer and the cowman can be friends.
-
It seems only right.
