Well, you've read the notes, the notes left it to the French, and now it is time for you to post until the French cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: UNPUTDOWNABLE!
-
And now - Dino at the piano.
-
I did thoroughly enjoy the book. :)

That was quick!

It looks like I was here all night.

But I wasn't.

Good morning, friends.
-
The New York Times's reviewer was not impressed by Opening Night. It will be interesting to get DR MichaelG's take.
-
Good morning, all!
-
I have very little to report. I slept very well until 3:00 when the pains in the legs and the cats started to become irritating. I had a dream in which I encountered Steve Sondheim who was strolling about while I was banking.
-
I think I must tackle the laundry today. I've procrastinated it for a week, so it;s about time'

Well, it looks as though Indiana is not going to stream tonight's or tomorrow's performance of Sweeney Todd. I susp[ect it's a contractual thing, but I really looked forward to seeing ot. Rats!
-
That's too bad.
-
They certainly have the resources to do it justice.

Who decides these things?

BK wrote in the Notes about the movie "I’ll just say the ending certainly jerked a few droplets from me."
Certainly a pull-quote for the advertisers if ever there was one!
-
George, very happy the audience had gotten more lively as the show went on!
-
George, thanks to both you and to the Theater Olympia for both your likes on that "Viva Max!" memory post!
Thanks also to Rodzinski!
-
And thanks again to John G for having put up that post and photo six years ago which FB brought back. That evening with the San Antonio film commission was indeed the culmination of such a wonderful period for the development of the "Viva Max!" musical!
-
Sometimes, FB brings back memories on anniversaries of events that you might want to just leave be as history, but very often, it brings the good feeling of happy memories and happy times.

Putting "Big Wind Day" and "Day of Silence" on the same day sounds like a concept!
-
Can we vamp our way to page 2?
-
Here's Cher doing a few Vamp songs.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S0KIgfPS88U
-
That has Cher singing of Bonnie of Bonnie and Clyde, Theda Bara, and Miss Sadie Thompson.
-
This Vamp bit has Cher singing about Eve of Adam and Eve, Calamity Jane and Blanche DuBois

-
Will that vamping get us to page 2, though?
-
I got an email from IU; SWEENEY TODD cannot be shown per contract with MTI.
-
Fortunately I fell asleep early last night
-
I say fortunately because I was awoken at a little after 1 am with the rattling windows and driving rain and wind
-
I was exhausted and tried to get back to sleep
-
Which did eventually happen
-
But not until we’ll after 3
-
So I am exhausted
-
But I’ll try to Wordle before heading to work

Another Friday.
Today at 11 a.m., I will be getting a haircut!
Afterward, I plan on a quick lunch (either at Park Row No 1) or at McDonald's...depends upon how whumsical I feel at that time.
Then I shall drive to Cook's Produce Stand for some fresh strawberries and maters.
-
No, I did not misspell "whimsical".
I said "whumsical". It's a word used by Eric Blore in "The Gay Divorcee".

Maybe the Dream weavers decided "He had too much intense dreaming last night. Let him sleep well tonight."

Good morning, all.

Good morning, all.

To say I am dead tired would be a terrific understatement.
So I shan’t say it.
-
But - go ahead, guess how I feel this morning.
-
I ended up liking Driving Madeleine a lot, except for the abuse plotline. It was necessary. I just don’t like watching that stuff.
The performances were great. No droplets at the end, but I almost shed a tear at the scene where a younger Madeleine is reunited with her adult son. And I did love the dance over the credits.
-
But - go ahead, guess how I feel this morning.
As perky as an Easter bunny on valium?

George, very happy the audience had gotten more lively as the show went on!
Thanks, Freddie!
-
Fortunately, the actors didn't seem to try to compensate and play funnier...they performed the show that they rehearsed.
-
George, thanks to both you and to the Theater Olympia for both your likes on that "Viva Max!" memory post!
Thanks also to Rodzinski!
You're very welcome, Freddie! And to Skip, too!

From DR Jrand:
I really wanted to play a part so I could dance with Aunt Eller, but I guess that will be confined to choreography nights.
I'm sorry you didn't get a part.
-
DR singdaw, the trumpet on "You Gotta Get a Gimmick" sounds like Alison Balsom compared to the poor bugler at Windsor Castle.
-
It’s closing two months early.
Which is about half of its originally scheduled run. Ouch. So we're not in Merrily territory, but I doubt many Americans will be seeing this production. I'm heading over in an hour.

Went out for lunch and just missed getting drenched in another downpour
-
Fortunately
-
Since I foolishly left my umbrella in the office
-
But it started just after I got in the car and ended just before I had to get out
-
I drove a couple of expressway stops to the drive thru Arby's and got their 2 for $6 deal
-
2 regular Arby's sandwiches for $6
-
Which is a pretty good deal considering I can eat one fir lunch and save the 2nd for a midnight snack
-
I do like a midnight snack
-
But it started just after I got in the car and ended just before I had to get out
Great timing!

TOD:
I’m getting back Hitchcock after about a month off. Tonight it’s The Wrong Man, then maybe Suspicion.

Enjoy the show, MichaelG.

I hope you get some much needed rest.

JohnG - I hate characters who abuse like that - as you say, it was necessary. I've played the soundtrack four times already. It's very clear that the director temp-tracked that particular plot line with Bernard Herrmann music.

I wonder why I can read it — it’s all over my 19th century novels — but I just don’t want to watch it.
-
And then for the son to behave so poorly to her broke my heart.
-
I guess I blew it last week. I was at the Bedford Playhouse for a brief time to do something for them, and in turn they invited me to stay and watch that French movie from France which was about to begin. It sounded worthwhile, but I wasn't quite in the mood to sit for a movie (this was around noon on a gorgeous day) and I felt I needed to be on my way to do some other things - which really could have been done much later in the day. Now of course it's not playing in a theeder, and I wish I'd done that.

Friday afternoon greetings! It’s been a quiet week for us as Richard recovers from his nasty cold. Knock wood, so far I’ve managed to stay healthy.
-
I got an email from IU; SWEENEY TODD cannot be shown per contract with MTI.
I’m not surprised, but disappointed. It would have been fun to watch “together” like we did with the ballet.

Have you watched Juno and the Paycock? I love the play.

Laundry took forever, but it's finished and put away. One of the cats - I suspect Stella since she's prone to diarrhea - either vomited or shat on the bathroom rug this afternoon, so I have more laundry on Sunday or Monday.
-
DR Laura - perhaps these would be appropriate for an art-themed event?
-
I enjoyed Opening Night a lot! It was a pretty faithful adaptation of the movie, using the songs to deepen the emotions of the characters.
-
Today marks the release of the Lyric Opera of Kansas City's recording of Paul Moravec's opera based on The Shining.
-
Glad you got to see the show, DR MichaelG.
-
After saying I would be one of the few Americans to see this, I sat next to a Rufus Wainwright superfan who flew in from Chicago just to see this show. He loved it!

So interesting! What a good thing for you that your London trip is before it closes!
-
My one quibble was the ending, which changed the tone from musical drama to musical comedy. It's not as clear as in the movie that they are ad-libbing the whole scene, with the playwright smiling throughout. And then they tack a musical comedy number onto the curtain call. Maybe this is supposed to represent Myrtle's delusions. Or maybe preview audiences found the original ending too dark, so they tried to lighten it up?
-
Most of the dialog came straight from the movie.
-
Thanks to DR Freddie's vamping earlier, we are now on page four!
-
I hate to think where we would be without all the vamping.

I saw it years ago. It’s not very good. I would like to find a decent copy. I don’t own it.

There is a Sonny Bono terminal at the Palm Springs airport, A propos of nothing.
-
After an extremely unhelpful interaction with a customer service agent earlier this week, I went there. I typed, "Thanks for nothing."
-
I don't like to be that person, but I had had it.
-
I am stirring from a nap.
-
And then, of course, there is the song "Nothing" from A Chorus Line.

But first.

Five!

Is there an echo in here?

I'm not surprised there is a terminal with his name on it.

I watched a long recap of Dune before we watch the sequel, which is really the second half of the book, tonight.

I hate to think where we would be without all the vamping.
LOL!

Have you watched Juno and the Paycock? I love the play.
I had been cast in a local production of Juno and the Paycock back in 2007, but for reasons that I posted about here (http://www.haineshisway.com/smf/index.php?topic=1274.msg266612#msg266612), the production never happened. I think we had a couple of rehearsals, but the fates conspired against us. :-\

What an auspicious start to page six.

If BK doesn't care for page 7, could he care less for page 6?

In The Wrong Man, Henry Fonda and Vera Miles knock on a door answered by an impossibly young Bonnie Franklin and Tuesday Weld. Strange.

Thanks for the info! I didn't realize that.
-
The murder scene in Dial M is perfect.
-
I realize what kept me from loving The Wrong Man this time around. There’s no humor or even much softness in it. It’s hard. It needs to be. And that Hitchcockian sense of artifice is missing. It’s not a drawback, given the hard hitting nature of the script, its truth-based approach and the nervous breakdown of Vera Miles’s character.
-

Yes, there are. My TV is capable but I don't have a 3D player or the special glasses that are needed.

The religious nature of the film is also profound.

On tomorrow's docket: some more laundry and some kitchen chores.

It's supposed to be in the 70s!

Perhaps I will do my laundry in 3-D.

Watched episode one of Palm Royale tonight (Apple+). Alison Janney is wonderful in it. Carol Burnett did not have any lines so far.

I had an interesting thought that crossed my mind earlier - I do not care for page seven.

Back from a two-and-a-half hour meal at Barone's with six Partridge Family fans. It was great fun, many stories were told, I learned about them, they'll be reading tomorrow's notes and if they get me the photos, I'll post 'em.
-
They gave me a great gift, which I'll try to photo and post in the notes.
-
I had the carbonara - as happens sometimes, it was a bit "thin" for my taste, sauce-wise, rather like soup. Probably for the best as it meant light on the heavy cream. It was good, though. Also, had one tiny piece of the pepperoni pizza and their dinner salad. All of them had bought Directed by on Amazon, so I signed all those along with a few other items they'd brought. They're all very sweet.
-
I guess I'll watch Boîte Noire now, although it is over two hours, so maybe I'll save it for post-notes viewing or even tomorrow.

And we're done...the performance of Incorruptible, that is.

We ended about a minute earlier than we did last night.

Gratuitous Post #200!!
-
Time to head home.
Until later!
-
I'm home. ::)
-
I ran a couple of errands before coming home, though.
-
This afternoon, I went to Fred Meyer and did some shopping.
-
Usually, the first place I go to is their discount shelves where you can get some really good deals.
-
Today, I got some Cascade Ice Pink Grapefruit sparkilng water for only $0.45 each, when they're normally $1.00 each!
-
Also on the discount shelves were several bottles of Baileys Vanilla Mint Shake Irish Cream Liqueur.
-
I rarely drink, but I do like some Baileys, so I got one bottle. :)
-
I also really like the design of the bottle wrap, so that helped. ;)
-
PAGE EIGHT BAILEYS VANILLA MINT SHAKE DANCE!!

The full list price is $45.99, and it's on sale for $29.99, which is a pretty good proce on its own.

But the price for bottles on the the discount shelves is:

So, I thought...why the heck not? ;D

So I bought!
