Title: REMAKING A CLASSIC
Post by: bk on May 05, 2024, 12:20:35 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes were a remake and not a patch on the butt cheeks of the original, and now it is time for you to post until the remade cows come home.

Yesterday, I had a hankerin' for a Taco Del Mar burrito.  The nearest one is in Chehalis, about 22 miles south of where I live, so I filled my car's gas tank with gas and hied myself down the highway to the Chehalis Taco Del Mar.  Well, the "Open" light was lit, but the rest of the place was dark! :o I had checked online before I left and their website said that they were open until 9:00 pm, so WTH??

Well, there was a giant banner on the front of the place saying something like, "Thanks for 19 years! Our last day will be Sunday, May 5!" and then some other stuff that I didn't read.  So, I guess no more Taco Del Mar from Chehalis.  There are three in the Tacoma area that are 35-40 miles away, but I don't know if it'd be worth it to go up there.  I might, if I'm in the area, but I probably wouldn't make the trip just for that. ::)

This is a day of piddly things: take the trash to the basement, make tuna salad, bathe, prepare for tomorrow's appointment. I did find yesterday the piano score to Glazunov's ballet Raymonda, but I could not find my score for Elgar's Enigma Variations.
Title: Re: REMAKING A CLASSIC
Post by: singdaw on May 05, 2024, 05:40:09 AM
The enigma continues to intrigue.

The clues left by Elgar have led to various solutions being offered - from Auld Lang Syne to the National Anthem. But Dr. Clive McClelland believes his solution - the hymn "Now the Day is Over" - is the most convincing. "I've been able to account for all 24 notes, which other theories fail to do," he says.

This chilly and rainy day is perfect for mine own day of piddly things. Music-wise, I need to put a few Drowsy things away, do my periodic straightening up of the Music Room, and I'll sit down at the ivories plastics and play through the five pieces for an intermediate level choral rehearsal on Thursday.

Poltergeist was one of my most memorable movie theater experiences. It was scary, but in such an exhilarating way that I recall my friends and I in some combo of screaming and laughing, falling on the floor even. And we weren’t the only ones! The whole audience was falling about the place! We’d never seen anything like it.

And when everything seemed ok, nowadays I’d be like, “well, of course something else bad has to happen, the movie’s still going.” But back then it was quite shocking. It was put together like a rollercoaster ride.

Today will be the big rehearsal for TAO's The King in Yellow that opens on Friday, and I was supposed to be at the rehearsal being the light board operator, but I got a text from pug the director saying that the lighting designer didn't have his script finished, so I really didn't need to be there, and I can just take the day and celebrate my birthday.  But I had gotten a text earlier from Kris the stage manager, asking what kind of snacky bits I like so that they could all celebrate my birthday, so I told pug that I'll show up anyway, well, for a while, at least, and eat some birthday snacky bits, and maybe watch the show.  My family and a few friends are getting together at 4:00, so that's still happening. :)

Sounds like a terrific birthday plan!

So far, so good. :)

Since Dublin I have been looking for a scarf to purchase and today I found one I love and am glad I passed on the earlier options.

That's great, Jane!  Hopefully, you can post a picture. :)

I'm sure I will be wearing in the rest of our Ireland photos.

That scene was one of the most fun things the chorus has done. The director gave us a few landmarks, and from there we got to make up our own stories and not pay much attention to the principals, apart from Musetta.

The songs are really fresh and new
