Well, you've read the notes, the notes had cool sounds, and now it is time for you to post until the cool cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: DELVE!
-
Notes delved. Desmon’d.

Topic of the Day: I've never been to Vegas, but I have been to Reno once. My friend Misi and I did road trip to Weber State University in Utah to visit several friends who were doing summer stock there. We saw a fabulous production of City of Angels (but i forget what else we may have seen). Anyway, on our way back, we stayed one night in Reno and I lost $100. ::) But we had fun.
-
I have been to Vegas twice. Not a fan. I find the evilness of the place to be palpable.
Saw no shows. There was no one I was interested in seeing.

As for the Dinsney-fied atmosphere, well ...
On one trip, my friends and I went out walking after midnight with their 8-year-old. The kid wanted to go to M&M World. On the way, the kid was handed a flier for some strip show. It was fairly graphically illustrated. His mom was horrified. He was thrilled.

In 2001, I did get from England a PAL/Region 2 DVD of Bette Midler's live concert, Diva Las Vegas (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Bette-Midler-Diva-Las-Vegas/dp/B00003JAAK/). I have loved just about every concert that she's had filmed...especially Divine Madness! I just wish a complete version of that show could be released.

Not being a parent, that's funny! ;D

Good morning, friends.

Is Norma Desmond Paul's sister?

I'll take an apple pie over a crouton.

Not that I have anything against croutons, mind you.

Good morning, all!

I got plenty of sleep, around 9.5 hours. I awoke at 6:00 and decided to get up. By 6:10, I had dressed, played a bit with Annabelle, stood up, held onto my table chair, took a step, and my rght knee gave way, andf I fell backward, taking the chair with me. I ended up on the floor on my back, fully aware that at 6:10 it wpould be rude to scream for help.
-
I cleared space aroud me, pushing slippers, books, and cats out of the way. I was able to grab te handle of the sturdy air purifier and roll myself onto my knees. Then I could get up. It was 6:30.
-
Nothing was broken, and it was not a serious fall like last week, but I'm frightened. This is my second fall because of leg-knee issues, and there's no way to control them or know at what point it will happen. I worry that it will happen while I'm crossing the street, creeping down stairs. Some day, one of these falls could be lethal.
-
So, today I have some cleanup from the fall, and a general apartment tidy-up. I should take a bath after rolling around the floor, but I'm a little bit worried about climbing in and out of the tub. We'll see.
-
Las Vegas and Florida are two parts of the USA I have no desire to visit.
-
Good morning.

TOD: I haven't been to Vegas in many years. We went a lot when my daughter was in her late teens. We are making a quick trip in a couple of weeks.
-
I rolled over at about 2 am and Leonard decided that was time to get up. I was afraid he'd wake my DH, so I got up and he followed me out to the living room. Leonard is ignoring me now.

Very enjoyable discussion in last night's posts about BK's favorite producers of the rock and roll.
-
BK asked last night: "Is there gaslighting going on?"
With 121 Guests viewing the board, and none of them posting or viewing today's posts, I'd venture that as a possible possibility. :)

Oh my goodness, Elmore I am so sorry about your fall.

Sending you all sorts of vibes and hugs

I've been to Vegas in 1989, then not until 2002 (on a trip to Vegas and then L.A.), then again in 2004 (celebrating my mom's 75th birthday), then again in 2008 (that was with my brother, sister-in-law and nephew). Not since 2008, though.
I felt some of the "evilness" feeling John G mentions in 1989, but it seemed to be very family-friendly by 2002.

An interesting Sondheim memory in Vegas was seeing, as part of the show "Jubilee" at Bally's, "Beautiful Girls" and "All I Need is the Girl" performed in a very much adult manner by the showgirls.
-
Also interesting was seeing Siegfried and Roy and noticing in the program that the staging was by Broadway notables John Caird and John Napier.
-
Good morning, all.

I've been to Vegas only half a dozen times, or thereabouts.
But let's see. Two of those were stopovers on car trips driving to LA in the early 70s, then once when driving to Chicago in the mid-80s. Another time (or two?) was friends and I going there from LA just to do it, and we saw Don Rickles at the Riviera one of those times. One time was a pilot friend and me hopping over there in a Cessna, just a day trip, and I think we just ate lunch in a casino and flew right back. The last two times were when our company was participating in trade shows, so we got to live high on the hog (or is it off?) those times, and we saw the Siegfried & Roy show - which didn't interest me, but it was entertaining enough at the time.
Okay, that adds up to seven times and I'm still not certain that's accurate. Anyhoo, it was always fun and always mindboggling, but I'd never deliberately plan a trip there nowadays. And invariably, the things that attracted me were the reminders of "old Vegas" as opposed to the big corporate thing it is now.

Never been to Vegas.
-
Vibes for DR ELMORE.
-
Well I’ve never been to Vegas
But I’ve been to Carson City
(As Hoyt Axton might say)
-
Very concerning, Elmore. To not be able to count on your knees is surely terrifying.

That SNL sketch seemed to be a hybrid of the Dunaway clip and this Lauren Bacall coffee commercial. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=NtUyGTwy6dY&pp=ygUfbGF1cmVuIGJhY2FsbCBoaWdoIHBvaW50IGNvZmZlZQ%3D%3D

There was one road trip in 1971 with friends, from San Francisco back to Cleveland, in which we stopped for just an hour or so as we passed through Reno. I'm thinking we filled the tanks and grabbed a bite to eat. Other than that, everything I know about Reno I've learned from Reno 911!.
-
DR Elmore, was it your knee or the hip that the doctors said should be the priority when it comes to joint replacements? It would be so wonderful - indeed, life-changing - if that could finally get going.
-
Vibes for Elmore.

Back from the market. I bought Cretan cheeses, meats, mushroom pie, other things to snack on instead of a meal.

TOD: We stayed in Vegas on a cross-country trip when I was about 8 years old. We stayed at Caesars Palace which was then brand new. My main memory is throwing up in the lobby of the Sands hotel, now long gone.
As an adult I only went for a couple of tech trade shows at my first job. At the last trade show, Boston's airport was snowed in so I had to stay either an extra night in Vegas, or in Dallas where I had my connection. I chose Dallas and got some excellent barbecue. Haven't been back in over 30 years.

Oh yeah, places stayed.
My only overnights were the Don Rickles trip (and/or another trip I was thinking happened in the early '70s) and we were doing it in the style of poor students, staying in a motel just off the strip. The only other stays I had were the biz trips - we first stayed in what might have still been called the International (?) - the one off the strip next to the convention center - and on the next trip we were at the Mirage.
And you know what I most loved about each of those humongous places? The ground floor amenities - the real coffee shops like you probably don't get much of nowadays, the casual restaurants, the nice Mexican restaurant in the first place (that was sadly gone when I looked there later), the buffets, the bars and casino areas that were just really interesting to hang out in. That kind of community area. Food was always great, and they just felt comfortable and fun to be around. The rooms were okay, but are just to sleep in, no nostalgia involved there.
I liked the volcano at the Mirage. (Big deal, right?) It may or may not still be there, or planned to be there in the future, I know they're changing a lot of stuff.

I'm up, I'm up - eight hours of sleep.

We miss former dear reader Sandra, daughter of current dear reader Laura. Perhaps they can stop in LA and see their close personal friend, Jason Graae, in the May 22 Kritzerland show.

M&Ms World was very pleasant even for adults, and was a perfect place to visit (this was in 2004) right after waiting for half-price tickets at the Vegas equivalent of TKTS.
-
We found page 3!
-
The half price booth had been especially valuable for shows where seating was at the whim of the maitre d' of the room where the show was playing.
-
The maitre d' could usually be guided as to where to seat you with a small tip (at least back in 2004) - and that seemed to have nothing to do with whether you paid half-price or full-price for your ticket.
-
I think more shows are reserved seating in more recent years.

The mess from the fall is cleaned up, the Chewy order of cat food and treats has been put away, and I had a discussion with Doug about handling the ballet score ourselves vs giving it to a publisher. I think we've veering to handling ballet performances ourselves and giving the ballet suite - orsuites - to a publisher.

I have renewed my driving license.
It didn't expire until August, but I had a few minutes this morning to go online.
In Indiana one can renew the license online every OTHER time....but once you turn 75, you have to go into the BMV. So the next time I will be 79.....so I'll have to make the trip.
That's being optimistic.....if the Duning-Kruger fool is elected, we not even HAVE driver's licenses OR any other kind of civility in our lives.

The silk oak is in the same family as the proteas from Hawaii. It produces a nevtar that is said to contain cyanide. So, don’t eat the flowers.

Listening to a couple of symphonies of Kurt Weill’s. Good stuff.

But I am drifting off.

Good night, all.

You look very happy.

Poor little Stella is sick. She's been crying - almost shrieking - several times today, she vomited on the kitchen floor, and she either pooped or vomited on the bathroom rug. I cleaned it up but did not investifgate its makeup. I need that IRS refund, dammit!

Terrific photos, John G!

The things once misses when traveling and not following the news. I just read, and shared DR Singdaws post regarding Silence of the Lambs ::)
-
Are plane sat on the runway in Dublin an hour and a half before taking off.
-
Once we landed rushed to the gate for our connecting flight.
-
Unfortunately that gate was miles away and the doors closed before we could get there.
-
We just lost precious time with Freyja and don't know if we will even be functioning once we see her.

They aren't permitted to accost you anymore, at least that was the case last time we were there.

Our new flight isn't until 11:00. We are beyond tired with the time difference. I have no idea when I will return.
-
Correct, our flight has been delayed. Unfortunately we are not able to sleep on planes.

We just lost precious time with Freyja and don't know if we will even be functioning once we see her.
Vibes that things get better!

So sorry to hear about so much going wrong, Jane. :(

My main memory is throwing up in the lobby of the Sands hotel, now long gone.
Is that why they closed? ;)

I was just going to post that!

I am so sorry about your travel situation, DR Jane.

~~~VIBES~~~ that things get sorted quickly, and that you can somehow find some rest.
Also sorry to hear about Stella. Poor girl!
~~~RECOVERY VIBES~~~ for her, and DOUBLE-STRENGTH for her Papa.

Here today we have had very poor air quality from the Canadian wildfires.

I wonder if the same will follow for much of the summer, as last year.

Good evening.

Nice photos from DR JOHN G.
-
So sorry DR JANE......vibes you can get some rest.
-
Kansas City is indeed finished......although I've never had EVERYBODY at rehearsal at the same time.
And I did inherit Scandal/Outrage and will get that done probably Thursday or Monday.
-
Good night, friends.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Better night of sleep, but just barely.
-
Time to leave this psge.
-
It’s been an age.
-
Forget your rage
-
Or it’ll be the cage for you.
-
Five!
-
Hello, John.
-
Well, this is interesting:
Colleen O’Brien: Mount McKinley became Denali; will Mount Rainier’s name also change? (https://mynorthwest.com/3959890/colleen-obrien-mount-rainier-could-go-way-mount-mckinley-with-name-change/)
-
Here's what is NOT interesting. Barely on page five.
-
No George, who once again has disappeared into the ether.
-
I don't have the energy to do anything about it, so I'll take a shower then change the topic.
-
I just don't get.
-
I'm not the only one who's missing!
-
Today has been quite the day.
-
...of not much happening. ::)
-
I'm sure I should've been doing stuff, but I just didn't.
-
That (sadly) happens too often.
-
But then there's always tomorrow. :)
-
As they saying goes, "Why do today what can be put off until tomorrow."
-
;D
-
I think I mentioned that this Thursday, those of us in the production of The King in Yellow have been invited to see the final preview of SPSCC Theatre Collective's production of the musical Amélie.
-
I was going to audition for it, but I was already committed to TKiY, so I'm glad I get to see it.
-
They actually run a weekend after we close, so I was able to sign up to usher for it.
-
So, I'll actually get to see it again.
-
I like to do that when I can.
-
Especially if it's a show that I really like (even though I have both the Broadway and London cast recordings, I don't really know the show) or I know people in the show.
-
Jesse, who is playing Amélie, played Dot in Sunday in the Park with George last year when I played Mr./Lee Randolph.
-
Shower is done.
-
Unlike page five.
-
Oh well, nothing to be done about it.
-
New notes are up.
-
Up are new notes.
-
I've seen them.
-
I've read them.
-
I wrote them.
-
And still, page five.
-
See?
-
Unbelievable.
-
We could have had a food report from old George, but noooo.
-
He will, however, be held accountable.
-
At least, Page Six isn't the lowest posting day ever...just the lowest in quite a while. ::)
-
We could have had a food report from old George, but noooo.
The only food that I've had today was some leftover vegetarian enchiladas that my sister made. Even reheated, they were still quite tasty.
