Good morning, all!
-
Good morning, friends.
-
The attachment of photos is still broken.
-
So no National Day calendar for the time being.
-
I'm sure you are all very disappointed. :D
-
I slept rather well. Thatch got a bit rambunctious around 5:00 or so when the room began to get light; around 6:00 Annabelle crawled under the blankets with me. I must have fallen back to sleep for a bit; when I decided to get up, it was 6:45.
-
Today I do the small batch of laundry I have.
-
Good morning, all.
-
A bit more pain this morning. Hopefully, it will pass.
-
I have never seen Capricorn One. I should correct that.
-
Great notes on Richard and on the funeral.
-
I, too, hate funerals. The last one I attended was for Louis Aborn, who was - as far as I'm concerned - Tams-Witmark Music Library. He wasn't an easy employer, I gathered from my my friend there, librarian Dale Kugel, who brought me in for two projects, but I loved Louis. He was always respectful and very kind to me, and I behaved silly around him. Around 1995,I was working on the rental edition of Good News when he came into Tams-Witmark one winter morning. It was a cold and windy morning and his coat was open. He asked me how I was progressing and I started singing "Button up your overcoat . . ." as I started to button his coat, then I started dancing with him as I sang. Dale Kugel look aghast, Louis laughed and went off to his office.
From that point on, he and I were on friendly ground, and every time he passed me, he stopped to talk briefly. One day, when I was at Tams-Witmark, working on the debris John McGlinn left after being sacked from his recording debacle of 2001, Louis asked me what I was working on. Have A Heart, I told him. Ah, yes, he replied, Henry Savage produced that, and he headed off to the men's room.
Henry Savage produced that show in 1917, I thought. I remember saying later to Dale Kugel, his mind's sharper at 90 than mine is at 55!
At Louis' funeral, his wonderful son Sargent, whom I'd met at Tams-Witmark - it was a family business - introduced me to his wife, saying, Larry is the only person who ever got my dad to dance at work. Then he and I both burst into tears.

They sure were!

Wonderful notes about Richard’s funeral. I am so sad about his passing .

I meant to some and post last night but I got home from work, sat down , closed my eyes for a second and opened them six hours later to find myself in the recliner with a blanket and the house dark and licked for the night.

I changed into night clothes and went right back to sleep

Nice reflections on funerals and people from BK and DR Elmore.

It's June. Has everyone had their Leslie Uggams yet? One such post was in the first half dozen of my FB feed.

I can enjoy mac and cheese made almost any old way, simple or fancy, but I am definitely partial nowadays to nicely baked (do we say baked with mac and cheese?) four-cheese (or whatever) varieties. I don't have an example to point to, I think the couple of best ones have been homemade.
-
And for those that haven't seen it, skip to 0.45" for the inside scoop on that whole fiasco.

Beautiful notes today, Bruce.
-
I also have an aversion to funerals.
My first experience at one was when my maternal grandfather died. I loved my PaPa more than anything, and I was torn up when he died. I was 17, and the funeral was in a large church. I sat with cousins who fidgeted a bit, and then we drove some 26 miles in a funeral cortege to a neighboring city for the burial.
I do not disrespect his memory by hating that process. I would gladly have spent time at his gravesite without an audience.
After that, it was 35 years before I attended another. I have attended five since 2001, four in the past two years.
-
TOD:
Mac and cheese is a questionable taste for me. My mom made terrific macaroni and cheese. It was made from scratch and not from a box. I have made that one a few times, and it's as far removed from the stuff you find in cafeterias as can be. I have never liked the Kraft's variety.
The best I have had in a very long time I purchased at The Fresh Market, deli section. It was a white cheddar mac and cheese and was extremely tasty!!
-
There are many things I would like to do today.
However....today is day two of a three-day local event: To wit, the annual "23-mile Yard Sale". For a 23-mile stretch of U.S. 121, folks will have vast displays of stuff out on their lawns or in parking lots waiting for the thousands and thousands of folks driving by to peruse and purchase said stuff.
I absolutely hate it that the 23-mile stretch is also the route I need to use to go to the recycling center, the grocery, my cousin Debra's, and virtually anywhere else that has shopping.
The reason I hate it is that cars simply stop in the road to rubberneck a yard's display. Never mind that they COULD pull over...but NO... they stop and gawk and slowly advance to see the next yard, etc.
Folks here expect that and don't seem to mind.
I may be "here", but I have no patience for that sort of thing.

The son (Anderson) of a much-loved cousin (Ashely, my cousin Butch's daughter) is playing baseball tomorrow morning in Lexington SC. Anderson is 16 and is one of the best players in the state.
The game is at 9:30 a.m., and I have been invited to go with my cousin Butch and his fiancée Sharon. The thing is, they may leave as early as 6:30 a.m. Butch wants to have breakfast at a Waffle House in Lexington, and they need to get to the Lexington High School early enough to get good parking. Teams from all over the state will be playing, so it will be a mad house.
Afterward, Sharon wants to do some local shopping before returning home.
I appreciate being thought of, but gosh and golly and gee.

DR RON PULLIAM we have one of those road sales....it's about 20 miles of US 40 west of Plainfield.
This is the route I take to the theeder, so I have been watching the setup all week. We also have the rubberneckers slowing down, but at least US 40 is a four-lane with median byway....so you can usually get around the other cars.
Of course the DOT is also doing road work and has closed one lane of the road in each direction.....for about 4 miles.
-
Congrats to DR GEORGE on his millstone.
-
And to DR Ron Pulliam on his mini-millstone.
-
I think there's a pill for that.
-
The laundry is finished. I'm a bit afraid of putting the bathroom rug back down since I fear it will need laundering again tomorrow.
-
And to DR Ron Pulliam on his mini-millstone.
Maybe it's a half-a-millstone, like Horace Vandergelder was a half-a-millionaire.

The Tony Awards: June 16.

From Bruce:
Interestingly, the only other time I've been to Hillside was for both my parents' funerals. I have no idea where their graves are, however.
It is easy enough to find out even if you don't plan on visiting them.
-
Yes Bruce, you had to go to this funeral as hard as it was. All the reasons to be there are why you were glad you were there.
-
From Bruce:
Richard's daughter Vicky said to me, "You were his best friend and he loved you so much." That got me all teary-eyed again.
Now I am crying.
-
Having spent six horrible last weeks with my father I imagined the ten weeks were rather bad :(
-
George, did the carrot cake sandwich cookies have a cream cheese filling?
-
All of my pants almost always have a strawberry chapstick in the pocket. I too hate when I leave it at home.
-
I also hate when I leave hand lotion at home.
-
I'm sure you are all very disappointed. :D

I saw my neighbor Ann, who's being stretched thin between school and her mother's poor health and dementia in Boston, for the first time in weeks this morning. She had been out and brought me two Dunkin Donuts, a cinnamon apple and a French cruller, my faves. We had a nice visit in the laundry room.

No, they wouldn't. But I also wouldn't. I can shop till I drop, but I don't need anything.
Hence, the "gosh and golly and gee" was shorthand for "I ain't goin'"!.

Then Macy's. I found a shirt I liked that was the same basic price of what I was returning. The guy doing the transaction said he had to know what cc I used even though I'd printed out the online receipt. I tapped the one I thought it was, which was correct, and before I could say anything he credited it back to the card - SEVEN DAYS till it shows up. I said why did you do that? I'm buying an item and want to use the credit. He cancelled the credit back and the new shirt cost me in cash one penny.

Beautiful and touching tale from BK’s Sherman funeral experience.

I worked concessions for two, count 'em, TWO shifts today!

I had to stand the whole time.

That's what today was, too: end of year ballet stuff.

This was one company of I think three in the area that has their "graduation" of the seniors, as well as everyone else getting their moments to shine.
-
G! How are you, dear fellow?
It was a long day, but I'm doing well, so far.
-
Oh George, how about some postings?
I has been posting!
-
I like Mac and cheese but can’t think of a particular outstanding one from my life.
Ditto. ::)
-
Exactly. Older, talented kids, and little kids who have no clue but are fun to watch. Little Rodzette was somewhere closer to the latter.
-
Might be because they don’t consider that orange dust to be “cheese.”
Different country...different laws. ;)
-
When I worked for Playbill, dance was my main beat. Ballet and modern dance at Lincoln Center and City Center, etc. I got nostalgic for that today.
-
Though they may not consider it cheese, “Kraft Dinner” is roughly 10x more of a dietary staple in Canada.
-
Here is a fully realized musical sketch I loved from the time I saw it on SNL many years ago. Featuring Glen Close and Jon Lovitz and the entire cast.

I wonder what George ate.
-
Perhaps I missed it.
-
Have I ever mentioned that I do not care for page seven?
-
I'm guessing that George bailed at 11:57. What a wise-acre.
-
Probably stuffing his face with free tacos.
-
George ate from the concessions.
-
Or eating creamed herring and borscht.
-
I concede he ate from the concessions but what WERE the concessions?
-
Is that a proper meal?
-
Is that a proper noun?
-
Maybe he's having a proper meal now.
-
Gumbo?
-
Blackened chicken?
-
Reddened whitefish?
-
I just don't get the disappearing act.
-
