Well, you've read the notes, the notes whistled while you read, and now it is time for you to post until the whistling cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: MOXIE!
-
So, not only Kerry O'Malley and Robert Yacko, you got Brent Barrett (The World's Sexiest Man Alive) AND Linda Hart?? That's pretty darned cool!
-
I know, right?
-
Good morning, all.
-
I'm up and at 'em a little early so I can give Mikey a Gabapentin three hours before his appointment. He's a "red dot" cat at the vet, so that's routine for him, to keep him a little calmer and quieter. It also leaves him loopy as hell for the rest of the day, which I don't love but I can deal with it.
-
HA!
-
Well it is opening night.
I also have to work in the box office tonight - but hopefully I will be able to leave for a few minutes to be in the circle at 7:20 p.m.
I was looking forward to the next couple of days off, but the director asked me last night: "You're going to be here every night, right?"
It seems he wanted me to check makeup & wigs and make sure everyone looks okay....so I said...."Uh.....yes if you want me to be."
-
This credit card system is going to be the END of me....THE END OF ME.
You have to ring everything up - even cash transactions....so it is a long drawn out process with lots of taps and back and forth....and don't forget the 5% convenience fee!
THE END OF ME.
-
Who gets some convenience for that 5%, DR Jrand73? The customer? The theeder?
-
I don't think it's the person operating the credit card system. Unless they're getting the 5% for their trouble? That might be a good thing.
-
Good morning, friends.

I thought eight is enough.

But with six you get eggroll.

~~~OPENING NIGHT BREAK-A-LEG VIBES~~~ for the cast & company of Oklahoma!
Let's have a YEOW! And a YIP-I-O-E-AY!
-
Good morning, all!
-
I slept well and I slept in. All three cats seemed happy with that decision.
-
Last night I watched for the very first time a 1968 movie, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, and now I cannot get that title song out of my head.
-
Thursday morning greetings! This is the big birthday celebration weekend for our granddaughters, so I might be even scarcer than usual.
Hugs for all!
Good morning, all.
Will Mr. Barrett be singing anything from Busker Alley? I saw him twice in that.
-
And, BK, you want the subjunctive in your wish that your McDonald’s were better. Because it isn’t. You just wish it were.
-
Two!
I enjoyed it, and I think I had three or four huge guffaws, which is never bad. The blu-ray looks great, and it even includes the Entr'Acte and Exit Music, which are not only fun but beautifully orchestrated by Irwin Kostal. At times I felt the movie, like Thoroughly Modern Millie, could use some trimming, but I loved the cast, especially the wonderful Lionel Jeffries, Robert Helpman, Benny Hill, Gert Fröbe, and Anna Quayle. I don't think I'd ever seen Sally Ann Howes in any other movie besides Dead of Night. As soon as she started to sing, I thought, OMG! was this film intended to pair Dick Van Dyke and Julie Andrews?
You make me want to watch it again. Though probably not on a double bill with Peeping Tom.
I see the new neck doctor today. I had thought my appointment was at 9 am. It’s at 3:30 pm.
Re Chitty:
Well, damn it, now I have to take out my copy and watch it. Believe it or not, I never went to it back in the day, and I only saw it for my own first time when I got the Blu-ray. I had very much the same impressions as DR Elmore, right down to that thought about Sally Ann Howes. Isn't she amazing? Like, where had she been all my life?
Okay, it's added to the NEW! IMPROVED! watch pile, right along with the Godzillas.
Applesauce cake.
Did I ever tell the story of my friend who told the tale of having been working at the box-office at (IIRC) North Shore, during ticket sales for APPLAUSE,
And there may have been a typo in the advertising somewhere, because they got a number of phone calls asking for "two tickets to see Dorothy Collins in APPLESAUCE."
~~~GETTING-TO-THE-ROOT-OF-THE-PROBLEM VIBES~~~ for DR John G.!!!!!

Did Dorothy Collins follow that up with starring in ASPICS OF LOVE?

As long as we say it's apocryphal, we can certainly say she did!

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang was released when I was 5 years old, and I was enthralled.
Enthralled, I tell you.

I wore out the gatefold LP.

I believe it was generally known that Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke were talked about to do a movie of SHE LOVES ME together.
But that just didn't happen for some reason.
Here again is Julie Andrews singing "Dear Friend," though.

I was searching online for a Sherman brothers song and couldn't find it.
Finally figured out that it was The Gnome-Mobile. I had been searching on Oldsmobile.

Happy Thursday!
Decent night's sleep! A beautiful day looms!
Lunch today will be from "Don't Be A Square, Eat at 'The Triangle'." It's cubed steak day, and they make it extremely well.

As wonderful as the show was with Barbara Cook, Julie's version is quite stunning!
I do wish the orchestration of this version was a bit more intimate...less lush orchestra but with strings.
-
I had the most extraordinary experience seeing Barbara Cook in her "Mostly Sondheim" concert in San Francisco's Curran Theater in 2012.
An extraordinary performance. She sang for 90- minutes, no intermission. Her accompanist was Wally Harper and two other men on stringed instruments.
It was magic, and it was made even moreso when she would talk about the songs she would sing before she sang them.
The "Mostly" part was predicated upon the fact that several non-Sondheim songs were included. The best of the lot, for me, was when she sang "Ice Cream". She prefaced the performance with the admission that she should not, at age 85, be able to hit all the notes. She then hit all the notes, and it was glorious.
-
Nice memories, Ron.
-
I wore out the gatefold LP.
We had the cheap RCA-Camden knockoff by the Richard Wolfe Children’s Chorus. And it’s great!

Sally Ann Howes was a delightful Desiree in the NYCO Little Night Music, which is n YouTube I think
In 1998, the Kennedy Center initiated a one-season facsimile of Encores! I understand the Kennedy Center was warned to give the try a few seasons to build their audience and start paying off. Well, they didn't. But . . .they did produced a mediocre Where's Charley? with a script edited and smutted up (I haven't had so much fun since I had a bath with my sister) by the author of Lend Me a Tenor. Some of the cast, including Emily Loesser, was good, and the older couple, who were delightful, were played by Sally Ann Howes and Bill Hayes. I met them backstage after the opening night.
-
You bathed with your sister?
-
Never mind.

Ken Ludwig also had written the book for "Crazy for You" at that point.

From John:

I don't remember watching extras, lucky you.
There is a one-hour documentary on the scandal that is fascinating. It shows how thoughtful the casting was, how faithful the script was to reality. And it makes you horrified all over again that this happened.
-
I forgot to mention yesterday that Keith had another Wordle in two :)
-
Example: The tense hearing where Paula Vannells destroys herself with her lies is practically verbatim.
And the makers of the documentary show you the reaction from one of the subpostmasters in the background.

I don't think it's the person operating the credit card system. Unless they're getting the 5% for their trouble? That might be a good thing.
I assumed that the credit card company gets the fee and the theeder has it deducted from the total amount that they get.

At least, that's how it works with the Square system that we use.

Well....though not publicly announced yet - Three Arrests of Frances Farmer will have a reading at the Phoenix Cultural Center on Saturday, June 4, at 4 p.m.

LOL
Thanks, everyone.
In a moment, I shall be on my way to OKLAHOMA! the musical, not the state.

I saw Chitty Chitty Bang Bang as the second feature at a drive in. The main movie was The something something Red Baron about the WWI flying ace.
I liked CCBB much better.
-
I was just out at the grocery store. As I approached my car, goods in hand, I had a moment of doubt that I was about to try unlocking the right vehicle. A second look confirmed it was mine, all right, but why - IN THE PAST THREE YEARS THAT I'VE HAD THIS CAR -- did I never "see" this sticker? At first I thought someone might have stuck something on the outside - but no, it's on the inside. Can you believe it - that I would only see this TODAY, on the occasion of DR Jrand73's foray into the wilds of OK in IN???
Naturally, you should click to enlargenate.

TCM ALERT!
Tonight at 6:30 p.m., EDT, the 1975 film "Overlord" will air.
This film is distinguished with an orchestral underscore by composer Paul Glass.
Kritzerland released the first-ever soundtrack CD.
FWIW, Glass also composed "Bunny Lake is Missing", one of my favorite films scores.

Thanks to the sharp eyes of DR singdaw & DR RON PULLIAM.....the reading will indeed take place on JUNE 29!

And thanks to all for the OK vibes and DR CHAS SMITH for his sticker discovery.
The audience was great.....generous with laughs & applause....and the cast was more than ready.
Only 10 tickets went unsold.
I also think I have mastered the credit card tapper.....we enter ALL transactions even those paid with cash....so we can get an evening report.
Fingers crossed.....I work again on Wednesday.

AND - no one left at intermission.

At long last, I have finished all 1,026 pages of The Magic Mountain. I started it last June in Hawaii, read more in Greece and finally polished off the rest. It was an excellent novel, but I don’t need to scale the mountain again.

Where'd George get to?

Four posts and gone with the wind.

No nothing.

Absent.

It takes three to do a Fosse trio.

WHERE THE HELL IS GEORGE.

He WILL be held accountable.

Disappeared into the good night with nary a care about posting or food.

Or perhaps he's stuffing his face with steak tartare.

Or whistling Dixie.

Are we allowed to whistle Dixie? Or is that now taboo (oobat, spelled backwards)?

This is quite annoyingly annoying.

It just is.

He dozed off while typing his fifth post?

Thanks to the sharp eyes of DR singdaw & DR RON PULLIAM.....the reading will indeed take place on JUNE 29!
Ah. That's good news for all the people who'll want to see it! ;D
-
I wrote them.

I'll let George continue responding to earlier posts before I change the topic.

That's wonderful, Jrand!

At long last, I have finished all 1,026 pages of The Magic Mountain. I started it last June in Hawaii, read more in Greece and finally polished off the rest. It was an excellent novel, but I don’t need to scale the mountain again.
I started Don Quixote last July, and I'm only about half way through it. ::)
-
Someday...
-
And now that we're so close...
-
Gratuitous Post #200!! :D
-
Earlier this evening, I went to my mom's house.
-
The reason for said visit was to install a new faucet in her kitchen sink.
-
It was almost more difficult to uninstall the old one as it was to install the new one...almost.
-
I have a whole slew of old editions of Don Quixote in a box in the garage - I should bring them in and see what's what - none are in English and some of them are VERY old.I got it at an auction many years ago.
-
But I got it done and my mom was very happy.

That's really cool. I don't have a physical copy of the book.
-
When I was in college to be a choir teacher (spoiler...it didn't happen), I had to take part in a lunchtime recital so that non-performance students could at least have the experience of being part of a recital.
-
I forget the specific song that I sang or who wrote them ::) , but I sang one song from a cycle about Don Quixote, and I think I had to sing it in French, if I remember correctly.
-
And food?
-
I also sang three different settings of Shakespeare's "Fear No More"...including Stephen Sondheim's! ;D

Ravel's Don Quichotte à Dulcinée?
-
And food?
Today, I went to Eagan's for lunch (I usually go on Fridays, but I went today), and had their Little Tom burger, which has two patties, goop and pickles and maybe tomatoes. I always add onions. And I had a diet Pepsi. It was all quite delish!

Ravel's Don Quichotte à Dulcinée?
I think that might have been it!

I just found this recording of the three by Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau:

But I must confess that it's been so long that I don't remember which one I sang. :-\
