Congrats on the new edition of Benjamin Kritzer, BK!

-
Good morning, friends.
-
.
-
Who decides these things?
-
I would like to look more glossy.
-
But usually, I look more soggy.
-
But usually, I look more soggy.
Wait a few years and that will turn into saggy.
-
I love corn on the cob!
I especially love it grilled...and buttered...and salted/peppered.
-
When I logged on this morning, I was assailed with a variety of things about time...Why are there 60 minutes in an hour, for instance.
My first thought was to say it were more, it wouldn't be an hour, and if it were less, it wouldn't be an hour.
But that didn't answer a question. So I clicked on the provided link. We can blame the Sumerians for this.
-
Whatever became of the Sumerians, anyway?
TV shows about ancient civilizations seem constantly to be golly-goshing about what happened to the Mayans, but I truly don't know where the Sumerians went.
And what about the Etruscans?
Absorbed by other cultures is my guess. That, or they were ushered through some sort of portal into other dimensions.
-
What the heck am I going on about, and why am I up so early?
-
I have a doctor's appointment (podiatrist) in Aiken this morning.
Am having a cup of coffee and will soon depart for parts known to me.
Do not look to the skies, for I will be driving instead of flying.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Slept extremely well, dreamed pleasant dreams only wisps of which come to mind.
One that reverberates is that I went to a restaurant and ordered pasta and wine. My bill was $250. I asked the waiter to double-check and provide me an itemized bill. He agreed but looked put out. The wine was $50, apparently, and the pasta was $200. Happily, I awakened before having to resolve the problem. It was so unlike me that I must have been channeling some other Ron in some other dimension. I never order anything I don't know the price of before I order.
-
Good morning, ChasSmith!
-
Rehearsal this morning. Ten pieces that some kids will be doing in a high school "musical theeder showcase" Friday evening. That might be a first for this school, but it's definitely a first for me to be involved in. The music is fairly ambitious and I can't wait to get over there and see how this is really going to go.
-
Good morning, all!
-
Good Morning, Larry!
-
I pretty much felt like garbage last night, but I slept incredibly well and woke muich more chipper than I expected. Go figure.
-
After kitty cleanup I have a few household chores to accomplish.
-
DR Laura, I wouldn't know what to make of that Peter Pan either!
-
Oh, God, it's directed by Lonny Price, who directed the rock bottom production of Camelot with the NY Philharmonic! I wish he'd go back to acting; he's a much better actor than director.
-
I am so irritated right now. There's some effing car that's been sitting outside - never seen it before, that has been sitting there one house south and across the street, idling its loud engine since four-effnig-thirty, which is when it woke me up. I cannot sleep with that noise. I even went outside and glared at it and said "Shut that thing off or leave" - I have no idea if they saw me or heard me. I finally could take it not more and tried calling the Van Nuys Police Department, and despite them saying there was a desk officer twenty-four hours a day no one picked up. So, I called 911, because this crap is impacting my health at this point. They don't care and switch me to the LAPD, who never pick up. We've had a lot of car issues on this street - two where they broke into MY car before I cleared space in the garage, and very recently totally stripping the guy in the back house's car. Loitering is a crime. Making noise at four-thirty in the morning is a crime. And I'm screwed because three hours of sleep is going to make me sick and I've been having vocal issues anyway because of the allergies. I have no idea why they're there. And if I were not seventy-six and I had a weapon I could go out there and have a conversation.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Horrible story, BK. Hope it’s resolved soon.
-
The night drug didn’t help me sleep and didn’t address pain. I don’t know what it did.
-
Two!
-
My plans for the day do not include much. More rest.
-
Shocking developments MR BK!
-
Feel better vibes for DR ELMORE and DR JOHN G.
-
Rehearsal vibes for MR BK & Co.
And congrats on the BK book.

I look for to the repor from DR CHAS SMITH.
-
I have revised the last page of the play - and sent it along to the Artistic Director.....also did some work on some sound files.
Can anyone here tell me what key a song is being played in by listening to the file?
I found some sheet music but it seems to be in F major.....and the orchestra sounds to me like B Flat.....so that sheet music would be useless to the singer. But I have a tin ear.....
-
I have my regular six month doctor's appt. this morning.

Sending doctor appointment vibes.

Bk, hoping that problem gets resolved!

OMG I forgot I saw this. Probably because I slept through some of it.
-
Thanks DR CHAS SMITH.....at least I have a bit of an ear.
-
Jrand, key is B-flat.
-
I got another two and a half hours of sleep - so, given and a half hours. Not enough. They finally at least shut the motor off at five-thirty and they were doing something because the door was open. Looked like some ratty, unpainted thing from the late 1980s or 1990s to me. Of course, it's gone now.

Thank you MR BK.
The Great OZ haz spoken.

I gave up a promising piano career to concentrate on tap dancing - so memory is vague.
-
The sidewalk across the street is being demolished......it is NOT being done quietly.
-
DR Rodzinski I am a bit surprised the hotel didn't want the actual key back. I guess they weren't fancy keys.
-
And so, music mavens, if it is indeed in Bb.......would this lead sheet be helpful to a singer who is singing said song?

Dr. Appt went well and later this week I will get some blood work done.
He is pleased with my efforts. And I heard a lot about his upcoming hip replacement, work environment, and marital situation.....I guess I have one of those "tell me all about it" faces.

I saw the oral surgeon this morning and she removed the final remaining sutures. All is well.

I may have to do one more of these grafts next year. (one per year due to insurance restrictions).
It's kind of an ordeal.

My daytime pill put me to sleep for several hours. Go figure.
-
I just finished Diary of a Bookseller, by Shaun Bythell. It was a book given yo me by a great friend that I somehow had never finished. Near the end, one of Bythell’s loyal customers tells him that he’s losing his language skills because of Alzheimer’s. The friend who gave me the book has aphasia and is losing her vocabulary as well. Sad coincidence.
-
Onward.
-
Four!
-
I’m going to finish up a few other books that I have started and never quite made it through.
-
Time for lunch.
-
Made a tasty salad of green Olives, tomatoes, feta, pickled garlic, walnuts, and a drizzle of olive oil.

Mom would have probably suspended it all in, say, orange jello.

I recall some fancy hotels when you dropped your key off at the desk on your way out and picked it back up before returning to your room. Those were big keys you didn't want to carry around with you.

Is anyone here in the networking thing called Alignable?
I accepted a friend's invitation, somehow thinking that was going to help them in their business, but in starting to set up a profile, it seems like something I don't want or need and I should just opt out of it.
-
Sounds like me and Venmo DR CHAS SMITH.

Sounds like me and Venmo DR CHAS SMITH.
I kept being told that Venmo was so easy to set up and use. It wasn't, at least not for me.
-
Ha! And Oy!
I'm trying to find a way to cancel what I've entered so far and just back out of it, and, naturally, there doesn't seem to be a way.
Well, I never went so far as to finalize the profile and actually create the account. I'll watch for anything further that happens.
-
For whatever reason, I didn't have that much trouble when I started on Venmo.
I still have only used it three, maybe four times.

I saw my podiatrist this morning, and she was alarmed at the sight of my right foot. Not the bottom or the callous, but the redness on top where I had dropped a CD on it last week. The foot was doing fine until last night, but today it made a scene.
I had X-rays and the result is that I have a fractured big toe. A recent fracture, too, but I cannot imagine how it could have happened by a CD striking the top of my foot.
At any rate, I'm on more anti-biotics for a while. And I had to cancel my Stemwave treatment this afternoon.
I HATE BEING OLD AND SUBJECT TO SUCH THINGS!!!!
-
Ouch. Was the CD painful when it hit your foot? On the upside, at least your foot made a scene before your appointment and not after you returned home.

A CD fractured big toe is indeed an older person's malady and is probably more frequent than one suspects.
I will add the dropping of a bottle of water to the suspects.
-
DR RON PULLIAM I hate to attribute such things to age....but I suppose I must....being there myself.

Some traditions will not be passed on to another generation.

Sorry about your injury, DR Ron Pulliam.

Today was pretty spiffy, weather-wise.

Watching the extras on The Paradine Case. I'm at the point where I have a few troublesome Hitchcock pictures left -- well, at least to me. This is one of them.
-
Hey there, hi there, ho there
-
I am back
-
On Sunday morning I woke to find someone had climbed up the telephone pole directly across the street from my front door and installed a flagpole
-
This is at least the third time I will have seen it. Lately I just watch these movies for the Hitchcock touch, and I will try to do it here.
-
I'll watch it tomorrow.
-
From which they were flying a very large flag suggesting it would be a good idea to vote for a particular felon come September
-
Hi, Vixmom!
-
Good night, all.
-
I was pretty. Sure such installations were not allowed
-
Yikes. They should be hoisted up a flagpole.
-
So I did my own research ( to steal a phrase) on the google and discovered I was correct
-
Such installations were verboten
-
Then the quest began to figure out to whom the pole belonged : power company or telephone company
-
Also to figure out to whom to complain about the offending item
-
Meanwhile visions of flaming arrows and flamethrowers danced in my head everytime I glanced that way
-
Monday morning I found an email address for the guy in charge of power poles in my area
-
So I sent him an email
-
But I received a bounce back saying he was on vacation and giving two other emails
-
So I emailed them
-
One didn’t answer , but the other replied that all poles in that area were owned by the telephone company
-
And kindly provided a contact email
-
So I emailed that guy
-
He replied I should try another guy, and provided an email address
-
So I emailed THAT guy and he replied he wanted the pole number
-
So I said I woukd check and get back to him
-
Then he replied, never mind, I’ve sent someone out to take a look
-
My hopes were high but when I got home the flag was still there
-
As it was in the morning
-
And when I got home from work
-
It was kind of hot and muggy and I wasn’t feeling much like cooking when Vixdad said he had been craving Taco Bell
-
So I grabbed my phone, and keys and wallet and headed to my front door
-
When my house shook from an almighty BANG
-
A guy in a dark blue Tesla had come flying down the street
-
Going at least twice the 30 mph speed limit
-
He hit the curb, lost control and hit the pole so hard that it broke into two pieces
-
Then the Tesla did a somersault or two and finally landed upright on three wheels
-
The forth wheel had been sheared right off the axle and was lying in the street about 50 feet behind the car
-
I called 911 and soon there were several police cars m two ambulances and a fire truck, quickly followed by two power company trucks
-
Also about twenty gazillion onlookers
-
Everyone lost power and the internet for blocks around
-
When the medics removed the lone person in the Tesla , I expected him to come out in pieces
-
But he actually seemed completely unscathed, no broken limbs, no bloody nose, but seemingly very very drunk.
-
Or high
-
Or perhaps he was just in shock because he had driven through a teleph8ne pole, somersaulted his car and been hit in the face with an airbag
-
In any event they took him him away in the ambulance
-
The fire truck and extra ambulance went away
-
And the police yellow taped the whole area, effectively trapping us in our home, without power, phone, internet or dinner
-
Finally, about 830 Vixdad went out and spoke to one of the officers and asked if we would be allowed to drive out to get food.
-
She graciously agreed and moved the tape so we could drive out
-
We wen5 to our favorite ihop where I had my beloved cali turkey avocado sandwich in grilled multigrain bread
-
It is so good
-
We got back home around 1030 and parked in the side street and started to walk back to our house
-
But the officer recognized us and offered to move the tape so we could get the car back in our driveway
-
The power pole guys were working away trying to get the bottom part of the pole out of the ground
-
We were delighted to find that the lights were on and the stuff in the freezer was still frozen
-
We didn’t have internet or television or landline telephone but at least we had electricity
-
The power guys worked all through the night
-
I woke up at 5 am to use the necessary and took a peek outside to see them still working away.
-
When I woke up again at 8 there were still three trucks there but the new pole was erected and the wires had all be transferred over
-
And the old pole was gone
-
We still didn’t have internet, tv or telephone though
-
This evening we went to the cable customer service place with our cable box, where they said it had gotten fried in the power surge
-
They gave us a new box gratis so now we have TV
-
And the internet came back at some point today
-
We still don’t have landline telephone service though, so I’ll have to call about that tomorrow
-
I tried calling tonight but I got a recording that they were closed and to call during normal office hours
-
They didn’t actually say what their normal office hours ARE, but I guess I’ll try between 9 am and 5 pm
-
Oh, when they took away the broken pole, the flag went with it .
-
It seems somehow poetic that an electric car made the disagreeable rag go away
-
Or maybe that’s just me
-
Sorry about all the short posts Ron, but I do have to make up for being errant and truant
-
And we passed the dreaded page seven
-
Pain free vibes for John G
-
And happy 97th birthday to John's mom!
-
Oh and tonight we finally had the Taco Bell Vixdad had been craving
-
Bought tickets today for Mom’s 97th.
Hope you have a great trip, John!

A forest ranger at Yosemite National Park on why it is difficult to design the perfect garbage bin to keep bears from breaking in:
"There is considerable overlap between the intelligence of the smartest bears and the dumbest tourists."
Me thinks the bears are gaining. ::)
-
My mother just attended a birthday party for a friend of hers - 100 - who still lives alone at home. To the consternation of her children.
Congrats and a Very Happy Birthday to your mom's friend!
-
This made me think of DR elmore3003, for some reason...

My niece has six, count 'em, SIX cats! :o
-
Nothing quite like looking at the way someone else has loaded the dishwasher to remind you that the mind of another is truly unknowable.
:))
-
Do her children want her to live with them?
Oh, yes. But she refuses.
I can understand that but it is nice they asked. We offered for Keith's mother to live with us. His brother moved in with her which was best for her as she didn't have to move.
I knew this 98 year old woman who had been living alone since her husband died a few years ago. Then, for about a year, her son just had someone come in twice a day to help with her breakfast and meds and to help her get ready for bed. Then about six months ago, she went from that to needing 24 hour care, to needing to be moved to a home facility, to dying just a couple of weeks ago. :-\
-
And?
-
Where'd George disappear to for over an HOUR?
-
Did he escape to Burritoville?
-
Did he journey to a taco?
-
Leftover pizza?
-
Rehearsal done. A bit rough for the pianist, but we got through everything - lots of moving parts in this show.
Continued vibes for the show!
~~~DITTO!!~~~
-
Tomato bisque.
-
I made a Cup 'o' Noodles and that was soothing.
-
From which they were flying a very large flag suggesting it would be a good idea to vote for a particular felon come September
How rude! >:(
-
I had a few pieces of licorice and also some crackers. That was it for the evening snack.
-
I am now out of almost everything - Diet Coke, snacks, everything.
-
Midnight is nigh.
-
George must be eating a corn dog on a stick.
-
Or perhaps just the stick?
-
Rodzinski is here.
-
Otherwise they would call it “midt.”
-
George is undoubtedly having some sweet and sour cabbage soup.
-
Violent Saturday is a good mix of melodrama and, well, violence!
-
Or perhaps he's nibbling on some frozen ribs.
-
Oh, when they took away the broken pole, the flag went with it .
Hoo and Ray! :D I was hoping that that happened to the pole with the flag. ;)
-
Yes, I like Violent Saturday - have a pristine first edition of the novel, too.
-
Page 10? Also nigh.
-
Oh and tonight we finally had the Taco Bell Vixdad had been craving
AND??
-
If they took away a Pole did they also take away a Czech?
-
Did you try the Chees-It Crunchwrap or Tosada??
-
Or is the Czech in the mail?
-
The Chees-It thing doesn't really sound appealing to me.
-
Ooh jealous! I long for a Violent Saturday legit poster to hang on a wall of a mythical den someday.
-
What really sounds appealing to me is a good chicken salad sandwich.
-
I just woke from a dream where the neighbors’ dog was biting my hand.
-
Tomato bisque.
I actually have a couple of cans of tomato bisque soup. I got them from Fred Meyer's discounted shelf because they were dented, but they look like they're still intact, so I'm sure that they're still good. :
-
Oh, look! It's Page TEN!! ;D
-
George must be eating a corn dog on a stick.
That sounds good. :)
-
Chess-It makes delicious and crunchy pawns.
-
No, today's meal was Jack in the Box. I had a coupon for their (new?) chicken wraps...get two for $5.00. They were fairly tasty...not great but not horrible.
-
My grocery store the other day was out of Rice Krispies. How? I dunno.
-
George is probably eating some sunflower seeds.
-
I bought “Krispy Rice.” We’ll see how that goes over with the kids.
-
Oh, and Subway has a new wrap - chicken salad - I'm scared to try it but maybe I will.
-
I just woke from a dream where the neighbors’ dog was biting my hand.
Oh, no! That's not a dream that anyone wants to have. :-\
-
I know BK is anti canned chicken, but Costco sells really good canned chicken.
-
Oh, and Subway has a new wrap - chicken salad - I'm scared to try it but maybe I will.
Their wraps are different than they used to be. They don't use tortillas anymore. It's a flatbread, but I don't know if it's their regular flatbread.
-
I just woke from a dream where the neighbors’ dog was biting my hand.
Oh, no! That's not a dream that anyone wants to have. :-\
I must have actually yelled, because my wife woke me up, but she fell right back asleep. I can still feel that dog’s teeth.
-
Neighbor thought Spike was just playing, and here I was yelling to get her attention. In the dream.
-
New notes are up.
-
Up are new notes.
-
I've seen them.
-
I've read them.
-
I wrote them.
-
Violent Notes!
-
They are curious.
-
Curiously curious.
-
Genuinely curious.
-
The chicken salad wrap looks like a normal wrap on their site.
