I am sure no one will wonder why I am up at this unGodly hour.

However, I must get in my car and drive to Augusta GA in a mere 15 minutes.  There, at the VA Hospital, I do believe I shall be fitted for the hearing aids that were ordered for me a month or so back.

What's that you say?  Will I mind getting hearing aids?

I think that's what you said.  It's hard to hear such soft-spoken questions.

Yes, I will NOT mind at all.

Pertinent to BK's recall of the eBay going public issue:

I really wished I could have been in on the Amazon.com stocks going public.  Jeff Bezos, when he was starting the company, paid his employees a minimum wage enhanced with shares of stock.

Before it went public, anyone who had been hired by the company would have been very, very wealthy if they had been there from the beginning.  Stock persons were said to become instant millionaires.

Ever since I read about how he shared like this with his employees, I have been unconvinced by criticism of him for his enormous wealth.  He "shared" with those who helped him get there.

Other than that, I have just one thing to say:

It's getting hot out there.

I only drove a few blocks at a time in between my several stops, but the car was heating up a little more each time from being parked with the windows shut, and I was just being stubborn about not turning on the A/C for those short trips.

However, this is nothing. Let's not even look at next week. Shall we? No. Let's not.

I had a very productive and pleasant appointment with the audiologist this morning.

My hearing aids were here, and I was treated to a thorough tutorial and demonstration of how to maintain, charge, change, clean and otherwise adjust the devices.

I have a phone app, and the big news is that they are Bluetooth enabled and i can take phone calls ON THEM and merely tap on the side of one of the ear supports to answer the phone.  I talk as if the caller were directly in front of me.

Ain't technology grand!!

I will share that my ride home was one of the noisiest experiences I have had in a long time.  Every little sound was amplified...especially while I was driving over newly paved road.

When I got home and out of the car, I was startled to hear rather loud bird song.  The hearing aids amplify noises the way a cell phone does for folks who call me.  I have had several calls when on my back porch when someone will ask how close that bird is to me...and I have to ask "What bird?".  I could hear birds chirping in the distance while the caller felt they were on my shoulder.

They will take some getting used to, but so far so good.

This is an odd noir. Cesar Romero is the star. Audrey Totter. Tom Drake from Meet Me in St. Louis. Raymond Burr is the heavy.  In one scene we see two beautiful women sleeping in the same bed. Apparently that was okay with the censors.

Watching the Stone Flower and staying awake this time. The Prokofiev music, based on Russian folk songs in part, is lovely. The leads from the Bolshoi are great, but the corps de ballet has not been filmed well. The dancers look sloppy when shot from so far away. The closeups make them look better.

The sound directly into the hearing aids while talking on the phone has greatly improved my life.  I don't say what nearly as much as I used to.

Do you have an iPhone?

What hearing aids did you get?

They are Phonak hearing aids.

Thanks.  They are a good brand.

Wonder what Sondheim would have made of The Stone Flower. The original story is one of a craftsman pursuing artistic perfection over romantic love. The ballet sort of Dinsney-fies things. The craftsman achieves that artistic perfection, then decides he misses his fiancee more. Love wins out. It's more audience appealing, but it feels cheap. Does Orpheus ever win Euridyce?

Other than that, I have just one thing to say:

It's getting hot out there.

I only drove a few blocks at a time in between my several stops, but the car was heating up a little more each time from being parked with the windows shut, and I was just being stubborn about not turning on the A/C for those short trips.

However, this is nothing. Let's not even look at next week. Shall we? No. Let's not.

I have no qualms about turning on the AC for short trips...but that's just me. ;)

It's 85 here, which should be as high as it's going today.

Tomorrow, a couple of degrees less, and Sat./Sun. only around 77.

Next Wednesday through Friday:  HELL.  Low to mid 90s, and I find those things can always stick around longer. That will be our first official heat wave o' the year.

Oh, my!  It's pretty nice right now, and I think it's supposed to stay this way for a while.

That's great, Ron!

Same here, if it is really hot outside.  The nice thing about short trips is that it doesn't have time to get cold inside the car.

I have UNfollowed a cousin-in-law on Facebook.

For no apparent reason, other than her sincere belief in what she was saying, she posted that, "like it or not, Donald Trump always speaks truth.  All Democrats lie!"

For that reason I stopped short of unfriending her and simply chose to not see any of her posts.

She and I have been round and round on such things before.   She believes everything she hears on Fox News.

She is a retired school teacher and considers herself an "intellectual".

I consider her a cock-a-doodle-loony-bird.

She also prefers to attend "charismatic" church services, including ones that preach that alien beings are controlling us.

Good news on the hearing aids DR RON PULLIAM.....sad about your cousin....but there isn't much else you can do....maybe hoping something will bring those folks around.

But of course if they're still in the fold after ALL the things that have happened - just exactly what will it take to wake them up?

Well tonight was ticket ticket who's got the ticket night at OKLAHOMA!

There were folks there with tickets for another night - season ticket holders had called and turned in tickets so duplicate were made....and then someone - not the season ticket holder turned up with original tickets.....then someone wrote a name incorrectly on  an envelope so my selling partner told them they had NO tickets....

Eventually most things were turned around and things were handled - but I HATE WORKING IN THE BOX OFFICE....well not working, volunteering.

I have no patience.

George Eliot died before truly completing Daniel Deronda. The serial does a good job of glossing over some of its weaker or less-developed parts. What I miss, however, is Eliot's wicked sense of satire. It's played for melodrama, which is okay but limited.

I saw it on Broadway a year ago, and it was the performance right after the Tonys. So maybe everyone was particularly psyched, but it was great. I thought the rewrites from the original production really helped too, and I loved the direction. Versus the Sweeney revival I saw the same week, where the direction was functional but didn't really thrill me at all.
