Well, you've read the notes, the notes brought order to the whole, and now it is time for you to post until the whole cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: BEEK!
-
So, yesterday afternoon, I engaged in the first (and probably only) Great VHS Purge of the 21st Century!
-
And here's another picture:
-
They are videos of stuff recorded off TV, but I never watched them. A LOT of the videos were of The Rosie O'Donnell Show from the 1990s! :o
-
I did keep most of the purchased VHS tapes that I had, but the tapes of shows recorded from TV can't be sold, and no one wants them anymore. I was told that Goodwill doesn't even take prerecorded tapes, but certainly not home recorded tapes.

Good morning, all!
-
I'm in a pretty good mood this morning. I slept very well, although the cats became quite rowdy around 5:00. There have been - so far - no frustrating moments, falls, spills, and best of all . . . the refund landed!
-
BK, I cannot believe how long that review took to land, although I think Amazon took longer to post my Kritzer World review.
-
DR vixmom, when you talk to DR WFO or see him, please tell him I send my love and warmest wishes. He is so lucky to have you watching out for him.
-
Good morning, all.
-
I slept some. I kept having the same dream over and over again. It was about helping prisoners escape. Sometimes, it involved escaping from Nazis, others from prison. Hitchcock was somehow involved but offscreen, not even in a cameo.
-
The new water heater arrives at about 12:30. Could be earlier.
-
I forgot to mention that in the past week, because of recent HHW postings, I've watched for the first time Peeping Tom and Hotel. I enjoyed both very much, although in some ways Peeping Tom is as unsettling as Psycho, although Hitchcock still wins with one of the creepiest films ever. The sequences with Moira Shearer and Maxine Audley are truly rattling and unnerving.
I loved Hotel! You don't see glamorous, star-packed films like this any more, and it succeeds on most levels. I had a hard time buying Karl Malden's robberies while the guests were sleeping in the same room, but I did like the way everything tied together.
-

HUZZAH!!!
-
Good morning, friends.
-
I slept pretty well and don't remember any dreams.
-

-
DR Laura may celebrate hike with a geek day, except that I'm not in Arizona.
-
But I can fully support vanilla milkshakes and ice cream sodas.
-
And now the days will start to get shorter.
-
~~~COOLING VIBES~~~ for those DRs on the East coast.
-
I'd offer them to DR John G., but I don't think they'd do much good.
-
Glad to hear that DR ELMORE got his money from the IRS.
-
A big backhoe is driving up and down my street.....maybe sometime today they will be putting down the new sidewalks and driveway curbs across the street....
And blocking all traffic in both directions.
-
I don't have an answer for the TOD......I usually avoid TC as much as possible.
-
I will see him tonight and will certainly tell him!
Who are Anne and Samantha?
And Kouigin amannn?
It appears to be an absolutely perfect beach day!
Day 3 of 90 degrees or above, so it's officially a heat wave. Tomorrow looks to be the same. Saturday and Sunday are forecasted to be only a couple of degrees lower, so who knows - it could go on.
-
Congrats to DR Elmore on the refund!
That's a kind of activism we can all support!
Fantastic pastry that originated in Brittany many hundreds of years ago. Lots of buttery layers, sometimes with fillings or plain. Sweetish, but not too sweet.
Good morning, all. Today is Thursday in the CSRA.
Today is "cubed steak day" at the "don't be square, eat at The Triangle".
I have a few chores and errands to do today. Washing clothes is one, and getting some dessert peaches and extra sour dill pickles for my contribution to the cousin's day is another.
Have a nice day, everyone!
-
I don't have an answer for the TOD......I usually avoid TC as much as possible.
I feel the same. I find Mr Cruise rather repellant, although I did like The Firm, and I would not mind seeing that again.
It was earlier. They came at 9. I was still dozing.
I too loathe Mr. Cruise. The only picture of his I liked was one of his first, Losing It. I disliked him immensely in Jack Reacher (I haven’t read the books), but Werner Herzog was a great villain.
-
Maybe I need to buy a lottery ticket
Just buy a winning one.
Don’t do it in Greece right now. It might Hike and die with a geek day.
It’s cool here. We’re getting rain from that tropical storm.
Anne Egerman from A Little Night Music. Tracy Samantha Lord from High Society.
Of course.
It’s starting to drizzle now.
Amazon delivered a package yesterday and the delivery person left it in the lobby under the mailboxes. Well, I went to pick it up this morning. The package was there, only it had been opened and the items removed.
I am very unhappy about this.
Alan Ritchan does an excellent job as Reacher in the tv series. Recently we saw Ritchan in The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare and I was pleased to see he did not move or sound at all like Reacher.
Donald Sutherland has died.
-
I always enjoyed his performances
-
Damn. That's a big one.
My first awareness of Sutherland was in Little Murders. He was always good. One of those who always made a character special.
-
I'm up, I'm up - three hours of sleep. Was up at five-thirty for reasons unknown. Couldn't fall back asleep so I followed two auctions, which was interesting in light of the Sondheim auction, since one was at the same auction house and had a lot of theater, film, and music stuff, including three Sondheim items which, of course, went for large bucks. Why? Because some nitwit woman posted in the Sondheim Facebook group and alerted everyone to it - and come they did and over paid for the three items in amazing ways. If you want something signed by Sondheim, it's really not hard to find items, especially posters, photos, etc. - and for reasonable money. One person paid about 2500 bucks for a lot that included five Sondheim notes to some guy who sent him things. They're all signed formally rather than Steve, and have no interesting content. You may recall that I offered up ninety such notes to someone Sondheim actually knew and worked with for 5K - I'll bet people regret not grabbing that archive now in that Indiegogo campaign. Each of those notes would now go for two or three hundred each, perhaps more. Funny stuff. And then some of the nitwits stayed and bid up other stuff, then got bored and left, after which things calmed way down and there were many, MANY great bargains to be had.
-
There was also an illustration art auction at Swann galleries. I found the selection rather wanting, but some of stuff I wouldn't even hang on my wall went for thousands of dollars, some considerably more than that. Fascinating to watch and both auctions were not stuffed to the gills with so many items that it becomes tiring sitting through it all. The Doyle auction had 203 lots and lasted from seven (CA time) to about ten. Illustration one started two hours later and is still going on.
-
Sad news about Donald Sutherland. So many fine performances: Don’t Look Now, Klute, Pride and Prejudice, MASH, Ordinary People, all different, all memorable.
-
My first memory of seeing Donald Sutherland is M*A*S*H. That and Don't Look Now are two of my all-time favorite movies. I also thought he was wonderful in The Day of the Locust, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and Six Degrees of Separation. I think the last thing I saw him in might be Pride and Prejudice, an Austen version I disliked although I thought the casting was good.
-
The first movie I remember Donald Sutherland in was The Dirty Dozen.
-
I left Day of the Locust off my list. He was great in that, especially when he causes the riot at the end.
-
Four!
-
Now watching another Jacques Tati short.
-
Donald Sutherland has died.
Oh, no. :(
-
SO many great Donald Sutherland movies.
-
TOD: My favorite Tom Cruise movies are Rain Man and Jerry Maguire. I'm not a big action movie fan so I haven't seen a lot of his later films.
-
RIP Donald Sutherland.
-
It is apparently Peter Filichia's birthday. I don't know him and I haven't read very much by him - but isn't he the one who used to have a column right here?
Anyway, I always remember the one time I met him. It was the day I met BK and some of you in person for the first time, at the Drama Book Shop for BK's Album Produced By... event. Someone introduced me to him, and it was funny because at first he was convinced that he already knew me from somewhere. (He didn't.) He was interesting and supremely nice.
-
It is only 85 degrees here. Most of our afternoon walk is in the shade, and with the nice breeze we have our walk was lovely.
-
I like being warm enough to wear shorts and a t-shirt.
-
Good evening!
-
Congrats on the refund, DR elmore!
Happy birthday, Peter. Had lunch with him many years ago. Nice man. Enjoy his books and columns.
Had a bacon cheeseburger for food. From a place I've ordered from before - it was okay this time - been better. I ordered onion rings and three chicken tenders, too, to reach the price point for a 30% discount to kick in - so, it basically cost the same as burger and onion rings. The latter were the WORST - I've had them before and they were very good. These were a shambles - overcooked and falling apart. Didn't eat many. The chicken tenders were so salty they were gross - and I say that as a true salt person. I ate two and tossed the third and feel gross right now.
With cast members popping out of "advent calendar" windows in the set.
Watching Mary, Hitchcock’s one German language film. It was filmed at the same time ss the English Murder!, which was about a transvestite murderer. The German version is a lot of fun. And the sound seems to be a little better.
Five ways to hate a movie?
I am not a fan of Tom Cruise's life style and his Scientology associations. i have enjoyed him in films, primarily "Interview With the Vampire" and "War of the Worlds".
The gay ballroom version of Cats opens tonight.
I am anxious to be on the road tomorrow, but not so anxious that I will allow myself to overlook some critical something or other in my haste to get away.
I have done my due diligence on laundry, foods to take, car upkeep and gassing it up, notifying relatives of where I will be and how to contact me there if my cell phone does not answer.
I have my meds packed for the next three days but must assemble stuff in the morning: Hearing aids and charger; cooling container for my meds; charger for my cell phone; changes of clothes (basics) and possibly a book to read tomorrow evening and Saturday evening after the reunion.
This is my first solo trip in a car of any great distance since I drove from San Diego to Oakland when I retired 12/31/1993. That was quite a trip. It was also an hour or so longer than my trip tomorrow will be, and I am 31 years older!!
Happily, I will not be driving at night. It will be HOT, HOT, HOT this weekend, though. Thank goodness for A/C in my car.
The differences between Murder! and Mary are interesting. Hitchcock spends more time on the humor in the English version. In Murder, the villain isn’t just a transvestite, he’s also a “half-caste,” which would not have gone over in Germany as the Nazis were on the rise.
-
The gay ballroom version of Cats opens tonight.
I heard about that. Hopefully, some video footage is released...officially or un. ;)
Finished with my viewing - very interesting movie I'd never seen.
I had a tiny little mini-cheesecake thing here (by tiny I mean three bites and you're done - more like a small pastry) and was hoping that would get the taste out of my mouth, but noooo, it's still there. I'm gonna have a grape fruit bar - maybe that'll help.
Nowhere to be found.
Derelict in his duties.
There is something rotten in the state of Denmark.
I wish I could get this rancid taste from my rancid earlier meal out of my mouth.
George, however, does not linger.
I'm quite certain he will not return.
So, today was the summer solstice.
Up are new notes.
-
I've seen them.
-
I've read them.
-
I wrote them.
-
They're kind of long.
-
The reason that I know that now is because the call time is 12:30 pm, the show starts at 2:00 pm, and the end time for me is only 2:30.
-
Hopefully interesting.
-
Yes.
-
What?
-
They're kind of long.
That's never a problem.
