Well, you've read the notes, the notes were in need of sleep, and now it is time for you to post until the sleepy cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: REMUNERATION!
-
I need sleep. The pill didn’t work. No relaxed muscles. No drowsiness.
-
I’m listening to a monumentally dull book, and it’s not making me sleepy either

Good morning, friends.
-
I awoke this morning from a dream, and had this thought:
-
What is an HVAC tech's pick-up line?
-
Grow older with me, and grow colder with me.
-
Isn't that dumb?
-
.
-
Mmmm. Strawberry parfait.
-
~~~BETTER SLEEP VIBES~~~ for all as needs 'em, particularly BK and DR John G. and DR elmore3003.
-
Sleep vibes who wish to sleep
-
Pain free vibes for everyone, but especially John G and Elmore
National Leon Day?
I have known one (count it, one) Leon in my life. He was in my 8th grade home room, was the son of a school principal (not ours) and was one of the most disagreeable people I have ever known. I guess he had his issues, but that was the first truly weird and strange person I had encountered in my young life.
The name Leon has not been an issue since. I may have met one but blocked my memory.
-
Bruce, your exasperation yesterday was quite understandable. The more people involved in a project, the greater risk for everything being frustratingly delayed/impaired by one of them in the final stages.
-
Odd and alarming dream: For some reason, I was in a busload of folks going somewhere. The driver needed to do something and left another in charge and in the driver's seat in case we needed to move whle he was away.
The person with the key decided to move the bus down the street a bit to give us all a view of the ocean from a cliff. The front wheels of the bus stopped at the cliff's edge. Scared me quite a bit. Scared me more more when a panel truck a bit further away went over the edge.
Looking down, I saw a shark feasting on some other large fish.
I woke up and refused to go back to sleep.
Good morning, all.
That's some terrifying dream, Ron!
Better sleep vibes for John G!
-
Mmmm. Strawberry parfait.
It's a fruit dish, so possibly suitable for breakfast. :)
-
I had a decent sleep, but definitely - absolutely positively - not enough of it, and naturally it culminated in an irritating dream.
-
DR Ron’s dream immediately reminded me of scenes in movies, one scene in particular from a spooky Halloween movie, and it’s always a scary scenario.
-
Pain free vibes for everyone, but especially John G and Elmore
Yes indeed.
-
It was very moving, not a dry eye in the house at the end
-
Good morning, all!
-
I enjoyed sort of a day off yesterday, what with the break in the weather and the end of my run of various and sundry little musical things, but today I must get back into the swing of being a little bit productive.
And this evening it’s back to the Bedford Playhouse for another Tuesday Classic, and that is always something relaxing and enjoyable to look forward to. Tonight’s pleasure: Sweet Smell of Success, which I haven’t seen in years. That will be a real treat.
-
This has been a morning lost to emails and email searches, and I am finally up for air.
-
I realized I did know shohreh Aghdashloo as soon as she spoke.
Her voice is unmistakable.
She was in The Expanse which we watched last year
-
Tony Shalhoub was amazing
-
I am so glad I went.
-
I had no idea about this show and my friends dragged me along.
-
I’m so glad they did
We’ll best w order and go to work
Alyce Mott, who is the USA's biggest Victor Herbert champion and progenitor of the Victor Herbert Renaissance project, emailed me to inquire about the materials from my 2011 recording of Eileen. Well, the recording parts, if they still exist, sit in Dublin, and nop work was ever done after the recording to update the files and orchestra parts because the foundation had no interest beyond the recording. I was writing back to Alyce when I remembered that several years ago my dear friend Peter Foley, who died two years ago from eye cancer, and I had begun a project to update the Eileen materials so that he could own the edited sacores and parts and hopefully draw an income from the materials for himself or his family in case he became unable to work or died. We did an edition of the Overture for a concert in 2016, and the parts and score happened to be in my emails as a zip file. I sent it to Alyce and told her she could have it with my blessing. So, Peter and I are now part of the Victor Herbert Renaissance.
Then I had to email my landlord to inquite about the fact that my rent check for June has never cleared. The landlord created a new website to handle all payments and the check was mailed to the address given on the website. I won't pay by credit card since they add a service fee to the rental rate of - if I remember correctly from the only time I tried that - around $20.00.
-
Today, I need to putter about the apartment and do some real organizing.
-
Yesterday's visit with the home healthcare nurse went well, and a physical therapist is coming on Thursday. I will get three weeks of therapy on Mondays and Thursdays and then be re-evaluated.
Interesting, about the Eileen materials, and how nice something good came of that.
-
TOD:
Canfield’s Sodas, especially their fruit punch and 50/50.
-
Good morn. I can never seem to sleep past 5:30 am anymore.
-
That’s great Elmore, that you recovered that material.
-
The “convenience” fees for the use of credit cards on things like that are outrageous, DR Elmore. Our town lets you pay property tax bills by card, for which the company handling the transaction takes $95.
Good news on Eileen, a recording I love.
"Witness for the Prostitution" - possible title for the movie version?
-
DR Jrand73, it sounds as if you will be looking for a new leading lady in all future endeavors.
-
Kitty cleanup was particularly messy this morning, thanks to a cat - I suspect Stella - using the bathroom rug as a litter box. There were three different locations on the rug as well as a smear on the edge of the bathtub. It was quite disgusting, and I know that's way too much TMI.
I guess I need to get back to rising earlier so the litter box is cleaned out by 8:00; I didn't get to it today until 9:30.
I wish Peter were still alive to do the entire score with me. My Finale files for the score, if I ever had them all at home, are on one of five external LaCie hard drives I cannot access on this 2023 computer. Peter took my computer from Toyland when I closed shop in 2015. I suspect the files for the entire show, as well as the files for Dearest Enemy and Roberta sit on Peter's computer wherevere it now may be. I think I'll send his wife Kate an email.
Witless is probably more accurate.
Halfway through Space Cowboys. The script is so clichéd it’s almost painful.
-
I'm up, I'm up - six and a half hours of sleep. She of the Evil Eye got here at eight. It's been earlier and earlier and earlier and from now on it has to be no earlier than eight-twenty.
I was organizing some boxes of stuff that needed organizing.
Good for you.
If there's no luck with Peter's computer, I would think someone you know in New York would have an older computer around and could help get the files off the external drives. I keep several older computers for things like that - running old music software, or accessing old media. But I'm on the other coast so that wouldn't be practical.
We heard a Bruckner 4th on Saturday that was just wonderful. Neither of us are big Bruckner fans but this performance was great. I had a good feeling about it when they had 4 trumpet players for the 3 parts, and instead of the 4th spelling the principal, all four played together on the unison passages.
-
I think most of the pop from my youth is still around, particularly Vernors and Red Pop. You can't get Red Pop out here but Vernors is plentiful. I used to be a Tab fan but converted to Diet Coke when it came out. I haven't had any pop for many years though, when I decided I finally had to kick my Diet Coke habit.
I hadn't known about Vernor's until I joined this here site. There are some stores around here that carry it.
Good afternoon!
Wordle: 3/6
-
Nice Kevin.
-
I’m enjoying reading about the third Downton Abbey film.
-
Watching Bang, You’re Dead, the Bill Mumy episode of Alfred Hitchcock Presents.
-
I grew up on Vernors (we didn't get it all that often, just an occasional thing) and I love it. I can't get it locally so I pick it up whenever I drive into the Midwest. That hasn't happened in a while, and the online costs are ridiculous.
BUT... it put me in mind of Chicago hot dogs, and 'tis the season, so I just found a good deal on Vienna brand sport peppers and Chicago relish, and ordered a supply of those.
-
Back from a thoroughly disgusting morning.
-
It began with she of the Evil Eye arriving thirty minutes early, just as my alarm went off.
-
I'd decided to go to Uncle Bernie's for breakfast - hadn't been in ages. VERY VERY VERY bad decision.
-
I am happy to say that I have never had a meltdown in public. Not once. I have had them occasionally in private. I had one this morning. Here's why.
-
I'm on Ventura Blvd. heading toward Uncle Bernie's, a ten-minute drive at the end of Encino.
-
At Kester, which is halfway between Van Nuys Blvd and Sepulveda, traffic is completely stopped and isn't moving an inch. Why? Who knows. If there is one thing that will set me on the road to an in the car meltdown it is that, as I'm far too claustrophobic to sit in a car that cannot move.
-
I turn right onto Kester and head north to Burbank Blvd. - two miles out of my way. I get on Burbank. It's immediately a mess because traffic is backed up a few blocks before Sepulveda, but at least we're moving, slowly but surely.
-
Finally get past Sepulveda and am zooming along. I pass the first major street, Woodley, go two blocks to find - Burbank Blvd. CLOSED but only on my side of the street. Now, I'm in fully blown meltdown mode, screaming to the high heavens. I do a U-turn and go back to Sepulveda and head south toward Ventura. I don't get fifty feet because traffic is backed up three MILES to Ventura. I pull another U-turn and head north to Victory, now six miles out of my way, all the time screaming that I should just turn around and go to Hugo's but am now determined that I get to Uncle Bernie's.
-
I turn left on Victory and head to White Oak in Encino. I get four blocks and traffic is backed up a half mile. When I finally get to the signal ten minutes later, it's because there'd been an accident earlier and their towing the car - mind you, it is not blocking ANYTHING, but people being morons, they have to stop and look at the car being hooked up to the tow truck. By this time, I have almost no voice left and am ready to eat the head of a chicken.
-
I finally get to White Oak. Clear sailing until Burbank Blvd, at which point we slow to a crawl because that's a popular on ramp. Finally pass that and am to Uncle Bernie's a minute or two later. Forty minutes for a ten-minute drive. For a minute, I thought about ordering the head of a chicken but opted for bacon and eggs instead. I had to repeat the order three times because I had almost no voice.
-
And you wonder why we don't visit LA very often.
-
The good news about Uncle Bernie's was that it's ten bucks cheaper than Art's or Hugo's.
-
Ninety minutes later, I head up White Oak to the freeway, which even at ten-thirty is at a crawl, so I to Burbank Blvd. and take that - the blocked part on the west lanes is now no longer blocked - of course, block it at rush hour and unblock it when nobody gives a crap. I stopped at Gelson's and got something for later - something I've never done before from Gelson's - we'll see how it comes out. I was going to have a small Caesar, but they don't have it anymore - they have the large Caesar which is now in the container that used to house the small Caesar. That's progress.
-
Now I'm home, cooling down the house and trying to rest my voice.
-
I followed along on Google maps.
Nightmare.
-
No news about the book going to the printer. If I haven't heard anything by noon tomorrow, I will pull the book and have them remove it from Amazon and elsewhere, and I'll just do it myself.
-
If you want a bright side, you could get some piece of entertainment out of this, maybe a film, maybe a one-act play - A Ten-Minute Drive in Forty Minutes.
-
I think most of the pop from my youth is still around, particularly Vernors and Red Pop. You can't get Red Pop out here but Vernors is plentiful. I used to be a Tab fan but converted to Diet Coke when it came out. I haven't had any pop for many years though, when I decided I finally had to kick my Diet Coke habit.
I occasionally enjoyed a Tab. I had to be "in the mood" for one, but it happened.
-
All right, everyone!!
Let's CONGA!
Vibes for MR BK!
-
There will be no streaming or recording because the actors are not miked.
In other bad news....my main computer is DEAD.
All of my inner web programs that I use for the theater are on it....and I can't do any work.
I am on the small computer.
I tried to use the APPLE but my fat fingers pressed some key combination and now I am typing in Russian if anyone knows how to remedy that.
I’m enjoying reading about the third Downton Abbey film.
Ooh, I hadn't heard about that - thanks for letting us know! I'm happy to see that Paul Giamatti will be returning in this movie.
-
One more step for the dough today. Must wait a half hour.
-
Finished listening to Braiding Sweetgrass, which I loathed. I seem to have a dislike of a lot of writing by indigenous people, and I don’t know why. But I found this book slow, pompous and condescending. And overwritten. The author claims to be a poet, but I don’t think I’ll be searching out her poetry.
-
Now finishing A Last Supper of Queer Apostles, a collection of essays by Chilean writer Pedro Lemebel. Think John Waters, Allen Ginsberg and Jimmy Breslin rolled into one.
-
BK, your drive sounds dreadful.
-
In still other news, I fired up the gas grill and ran it up to high, to begin the seasonal cleaning process, and...
FOUR MICE HEADED FOR THE HILLS.
Yes, I should have inspected the whole thing before doing anything. If that's what you're thinking, you're right.
-
Both BK and DR Jrand73 had DRIVE problems today, each of a slightly different nature than the other.
-
But good news for all of us, I guess. Who knew the Russian problem would resolve itself, right there in Pawnee?
-
Well, it's time for me to get ready to go to the theeder.
The movie one, that is.
BK, I am so happy I was not riding with you! What was that wonderful place you took me to for chicken and waffles?
-
I am almost, but not quite, recovered from my trip.
Just lolling around and trying to make sense of what I did over the weekend and how it relates, if it does, to my regular routine.
Perhaps I need to travel more.
elmore - Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles in Hollywood - the best!
-
See, now I desire Roscoe's - I don't think I've been there in a decade. I need it. Even though I already have something for tonight, now I'm tempted to get it for later - Uber Eats has it, there's a promotion going on and... right now, I've scheduled it for tomorrow, as I've already had bacon and eggs today - but I could save what I WAS going to have until tomorrow and have that at five. Decisions, decisions...
-
Resistance was futile, I'm afraid. Latest arrival, 4:30. I need it after the ordeal of the morning.
Oh man, I would love me some Roscoe’s.
I pay my property taxes with an "electronic check." I just enter the routing and account numbers from the bottom of my check, and paying this way has no fees attached.
-
That is an excellent way to pay.
-
Topic of the Day: Tab. I didn't love it, but it was an enjoyable drink from the diet soda wrelm.
-
Otherwise, I can't think of any other sodas that I used to like that aren't around anymore.
-
One soda that doesn't exist but I wish would, is a Diet/Zero Sugar version of Ruby Red Squirt. I really liked that flavor, but it's never been available in a diet version...it's only available in a "regular."
Roscoe's was excellent - it's quite a ways from here, so I had to microwave both waffle and chicken - but they were still very good. Their fried chicken is simply the best in LA.
I took myself out for a nice lunch at Panera
Baskin-Robbins has an Oreo-Cold Brew flavor that is quite refreshing.
It looks good.
I wish Peter were still alive to do the entire score with me. My Finale files for the score, if I ever had them all at home, are on one of five external LaCie hard drives I cannot access on this 2023 computer. Peter took my computer from Toyland when I closed shop in 2015. I suspect the files for the entire show, as well as the files for Dearest Enemy and Roberta sit on Peter's computer wherevere it now may be. I think I'll send his wife Kate an email.
If there's no luck with Peter's computer, I would think someone you know in New York would have an older computer around and could help get the files off the external drives. I keep several older computers for things like that - running old music software, or accessing old media. But I'm on the other coast so that wouldn't be practical.
I still have (but don't use) my Windows 98 computer, but I still have and still use my Windows XP computer.
-
And recently, I've been getting pop-up messages that in 2025 my Windows 10 computer will no longer be supported! :o
-
Had pizza for dinner with friends. Then went to pick up a prescription. The pharmacy closed at 6. Who does that?
So I comforted myself with ice cream.
-
I'm now resting for a short while.
-
I think most of the pop from my youth is still around, particularly Vernors and Red Pop. You can't get Red Pop out here but Vernors is plentiful. I used to be a Tab fan but converted to Diet Coke when it came out. I haven't had any pop for many years though, when I decided I finally had to kick my Diet Coke habit.
Diet Coke from a fountain can be pretty good, but I don't care for it as much when it's in cans (and really cold) or bottles unless there aren't any other options.
-
You can't pay me to drink regular Coke. :P
-
My drink of choice is diet Pepsi. ;D
-
The good news about Uncle Bernie's was that it's ten bucks cheaper than Art's or Hugo's.
That is good news.
-
There will be no streaming or recording because the actors are not miked.
In other bad news....my main computer is DEAD.
All of my inner web programs that I use for the theater are on it....and I can't do any work.
I am on the small computer.
I tried to use the APPLE but my fat fingers pressed some key combination and now I am typing in Russian if anyone knows how to remedy that.
NOOOOO!!!!!! 😱
Sorry.
Is that a small pharmacy vs a chain? Small ones often close early.
In still other news, I fired up the gas grill and ran it up to high, to begin the seasonal cleaning process, and...
FOUR MICE HEADED FOR THE HILLS.
Yes, I should have inspected the whole thing before doing anything. If that's what you're thinking, you're right.
My mom's younger brother and his wife are visiting from Germany, and they arrived today. My mom has a grill in her back yard under a canopy, but it hasn't been used in several years. The next time I go over there (most likely tomorrow), I'll look at it to see it it still can work.
-
I have completed everything on my list of things to do today. It is a good feeling.
Barbecued mice. It’s what’s not for dinner.
I still have lots to do tomorrow morning before we leave.
Oh, look! It's Page Seven!! :D
Good night, Jane!
Grilled mouse's knuckles.
My dead computer seems to be trying to do some kind of backup....we sahll see what we shall see.
In the meantime I am using the HP that I gave my mom...though she would never use it and was convinced that people were watching her through the camera.
-
We shall see what transpires.
-
I switched keyboards on the iMac so at least I can get around in AppleVille a bit.
-
Oh and tonight we were all given a lecture by our leading lady on the origin of the terms upstage and downstage......
How does the joke go? Oh yeah. I bet your leading lady and the director are more than just friends.
SWEET SMELL OF SUCCESS sure packs a nice punch. I'm glad it had been a while since I'd seen it. Plus, all of that location shooting in mid-'50s Times Square and midtown? Bring it on, man.
Sitting on my to-watch table. I need to remedy that. After Hitchcock.
I don’t have Facebook anymore.
Travel vibes.
-
I couldn’t bake my bread today, so I have a blueberry-raspberry cake in the oven. It’s red, white and blue.
-
For memories of earlier-eras New York City, I also like
the first two minutes of "Where Were You When the Lights Went Out?"
I'm all caught up with nothing to say.
-
But lots of others have said lots of things.
-
So that's good.
-
Good night, friends.
-
Cake!
-
Watching Arthur, an episode of Alfred Hitchcock Presents that he directed. It stars Laurence Harvey and has BK’s personal friend Patrick Macnee in it.
-
It’s perverse fun, which must be why Hitchcock liked it.
-
Onward!
-
Eight!
-
Watching another Hitchcock Presents, The Crystal Trench. Patrick Macnee is also in the supporting cast of this episode.
Very good movie.
I don't know how good the actual show is, but I like the score to the musical.
It's definitely a different interpretation.
-
I like it...one comment on that video said that Sondheim would hate it, and another said that he'd love it.
-
We'll never truly know, but he has approved of other jazz interpretations of his music.
-
And the music wasn't changed, just slowed down and jazzed up a bit.
-
Other than a couple of lyric flubs, it's all still pretty much Sondheim's lyrics and chord progressions.
-
Today's food report: I went to the local KFC and had one of their "Famous" Bowls (https://www.kfc.com/menu/pot-pies-and-bowls/famous-bowl) with a side of Mac and Cheese (https://www.kfc.com/menu/sides-and-addon/mac-and-cheese).
-
The thing I didn't like about my meal is that this local KFC, while serving Pepsi products, didn't have "Diet" Pepsi.
-
They only had Pepsi Zero, which tastes a little too much like regular Pepsi for me. :P
-
I drank it, but I didn't like it.
-
It is, however, much, Much, MUCH (that's three muches) better than regular Coke! :o
-
Just my 2¢. ;)
-
New notes are up.
-
Up are new notes.
-
I've seen them.
-
I've read them.
-
I wrote them.
-
They're long.
-
I couldn't help it.
-
I really couldn't.
-
Where'd George get to?
-
He left the damn room.
-
Did we have a food report?
-
He left the damn room.
No...I didn't go anywhere. ::)
-
Did we have a food report?
Yes, we did. Don't you read the posts??
