Well, you've read the notes, the notes had both heaven and hell, and now it is time for you to post until the heaven and hell cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: BULBUL!
-
Good morning, friends.
-
Well, let's see what's what.
-
.
-
Chocolate pudding.
-
Need more be said?
-
Good morning, all!

I set the alarm for 5:15 in my effort to get up earlier. It was complete failure. I turned off the alarm, cuddled with Thatch and Annabelle, cpould not get back to sleep, and got up at 6:15. Thatch played Floyd Collins in caverns he discovered in the bedclothes.

BK, did you know that David Amram wrote an opera, Twelfth Night, to a libretto by Joseph Papp from Shakespeare's comedy? I believe he wrote it for Marcia Baldwin, who might have been one of his three wives. She played Viola in the Lake George Premiere. I've always wanted to hear this opera, but I don't recall ever running across any bootlegs.
-
Good morning, all.

Today is the 10th anniversary of Mary Rodgers' death. I saw her rarely, but I truly adored her.
When I reconstructed Dearest Enemy in 2002 for the Richard Rodgers centenary, I needed a 5-minute musical interlude between Act Two and the Epilogue. I remembered that Mary had once told me that she loved the song "Bye and Bye" from the show, so I based the interlude on it. I will mourn her today as I mourned Peter Foley yesterday.
-
I must listen to these Amram pieces.
-
I've got BK's link opened, and I do remember the distinctive sounds of Manchurian Candidate.
-
I got the proverbial second wind again last night, and I once again feel like I was run over by a truck.
-
Good morning
-
I must be going but I’ll wordle first
-
90 degrees again today, with the usual storms tonight, but the forecasts show that this should be the end of those temps for the next week or more. That will be very nice.

I wonder if David Amram ever went to an ashram in Amsterdam with Jean-Claude van Damme?

Notes felt. Extruded.

Good morning, all.

Got some but not enough sleep.

No it needn't!
Chocolate puddin'! Chocolate puddin'! Chocolate puddin'!

Bruce, I loved that Percy Faith treatment of "Splendor in the Grass".
I have ordered the CD via Amazon.

Slept very well. Had strange dream. Nothing special about it other than I was sitting at the first table in front of a guest speaker and had notes spread out and was really into it when the moderator approached me and asked me to move. He said I was distracting everyone by my note-taking.
I was rather put out by that and took my time gathering my things together.
Whisky, Tango, Foxtrot?!!!

A Wednesday question for BK. It has two parts.
1. In the notes you say: instead I had bacon and eggs, and it was fine and ten bucks cheaper than Art’s or Hugo’s. Well, I don't know Hugo's, but I do know Art's is a supreme ripoff when it comes to the more ordinary foodstuffs. I also know -- or knew -- my L.A., and I know my bacon and eggs. So...how in the [expletive] much does bacon and eggs cost in the Valley in the Year of Our Lord 2024, anyway??
2. I know the great ones I knew and loved are gone, but surely the tradition lives on? I refer to the ubiquitous Southern California coffee shop. Are there none that you would drop into for such things as bacon and eggs? I know the deli-served ones can be a little nicer. But other than actual fast food, what is the present state of informal, casual eating around there? I'm kind of afraid to hear the answer. :)

In truth, I probably haven't gone out for a sit-down eggs breakfast since, oh, maybe before the pandemic. So I can't even tell you now what the average NY/NJ/New England diner prices are now. Vixmom can probably speak to that. And hell, I haven't even had a Denny's or IHOP breakfast in that long. Maybe it's about damned time I went out and treated myself.

Well I have moved the smaller HP into the computer room and am downloading a couple of programs.....so we go on.....
After the season ends, I will move on to the iMAC.

Chocolate pudding.
We don't say "chocolate for pudding"
(a senseless Thoroughly Modern Millie reference)
-
I recall a back-and-forth somewhere on the net about whether Julie Andrews was saying "I had tapioca for pudding" or "I had tapioca p-pudding"
Was that here on HHW?

Here's the link to the site Peter Foley's wife has created for him. I think they've been looking for a recording company to release a CD of last year's concert of Peter's music. Are you interested, BK? I recommended you.

Skip went to the concert last year. He said it was exceptional!
Peter was the pianist when I presented one of my shows before a panel at a workshop. The night that the teaching panel was Stephen Sondheim and Stephen Schwartz, Peter knew beforehand that Sondheim would be there that night. (Peter and Sondheim already went way back at that point.) Peter impishly asked me before rehearsal that day "Are you sure you want to know who's on your panel tonight?" - so that made it clear that Sondheim was going to be opining that night.

I really like The Trial - saw it when it came out at the Lido Theater - had never seen anything like it - and I loved the music - Albinoni's Adagio and all the other music. Issuing the soundtrack on Kritzerland was such a treat - if somehow anyone missed it, we still have some.

I know I was late seeing The Trial, but the only theatrical showing I can positively name was during a Welles festival at USC in 1981. There might well have been an earlier one at some revival house, but I believe this was also my one time seeing Welles in person.
Which brings us to a nice easter egg on the Criterion release. They included something I was thrilled to find existed: the film that was taken of his generous hour-and-twenty-minute long Q&A session after the movie that night. I had completely forgotten there had been a small crew there filming it. I had also mis-remembered where I sat that particular evening, so it took me a lot of slo-moing and freeze-framing, but I finally found myself in the audience. I also had to go through pictures from around that time to prove, even to myself, that that guy is, in fact, moi. It's too bad the film ends before Welles gets up to leave, because I would have been visible walking up the aisle almost alongside of him, along with the few in his entourage, just enjoying the proximity for one brief shining moment.
-
But I positively loved the movie, regardless of Welles being there. I read the Kafka novel right after that event, and loved it, too.
-

I ended up respecting it more than liking it. I think it's more the source material than anything. But what visuals. And what aurals, as it were. The scene where Perkins is n the run is amazing.

Watching Family Plot, Hitchcock's last film. Barbara Harris is her usual wonderful self. According to the extras, Hitchcock loved working with her, and it shows. Bruce Dern is back after Marnie. I ate out tonight, and the onion rings were served with such an amazing horseradish dipping sauce that I had to restrain myself from cancelling my entree and ordering a soup bowl of just the sauce.

I have never see The Trial
Neither have I. ::)
-
So, my one of my mom's brothers (Norbert) from Germany is visiting with his wife (Beatte...I think that's how it's spelled) for a few days, then they're going to drive to Yosemite National Park, and come back and spend a few days here again, then go up to Vancouver, Canada for a few days, then fly back to Germany from there.
-
Their son (my cousin) Thomas and his wife (I don't know her name) will be flying in from Portland, Oregon and visit with them for a day before Norbert and Beatte go to Yosemite, then Thomas and his wife will visit here for a few days, then I think they'll go somewhere else before flying back to Germany.
-
Anyway, today we all went to my mom's and ate and visited and reminisced for a while before I had to head up to Tacoma for the callbacks.
-
For our late lunch/early dinner, we had a veggie lasagna that my mom got from WinCo (it was pretty darned good), and my mom fried some zucchini and onions and garlic as a side dish (no recipe, she just whipped it up), and garlic bread.
-
She has some brownies with white chocolate chips, but I forgot to get one. ::)
-
Hopefully, there will still be some left the next time I go back.
-
We're not going to play our regular weekly game of Phase 10 because of the visitors, and we probably won't play next Friday, either...we'll have to see, but most likely not.
-
I don't know what might be planned before Norbert and Beatte leave the first time, or exactly when they're leaving or coming back, or how long they're staying after they get back from Yosemite, but I'll find out eventually.
-
;)
-
Gratuitous Post #200!!
