Well, you've read the notes, the notes were weirdly weird as well as weird, and now it is time for you to post until the weirdly weird cows come home.

And the word of the day is: FRABJOUS!

So, I compared the two different tapes of Play On! (the "!" is part of the title) and the one recorded on the SP speed is better that the one taped on LP (I expected that) and the digital copy that I already had, which is a nice surprise. :)

Good morning, friends.
-
And others.
-
I am posting from my phone.
-
Because my work computer is out of commission due to the global tech outage that has shut down all the airports.
-
Good morning, all!
-
I refused to watch the Fat Orange Slug's speech last night. I'll read the fact checkers' analyses this morning.
-
After I finished watching The Big Combo last night, I spent some time looking thropugh Francis Collinson's wonderful book Orchestration for the Theatre. I had recommended it to my arranging student, but I hadn't looked at it in years. I thought I'd better check it out again. It's such a wonderful read.
Collinson was the music director for London producer Charles Cochran. He conducted the 1935 London production of Anything Goes.
-
I meet with my student tomorrow. I'm really enjoying this, and I think I'm a pretty good instructor. I wish I could line up a few more students.
-
This afternoon, my friend Dennis Buck, whom I've not seen in years, is coming by to visit. He's looking forward to seeing the cats.
-
Good morning, all.

Slept well. Had dreams involving paying Mom's bills.

George, I was being facetious yesterday about the plot of the movie. Rohmer made a whole bunch of movies in the 1970s and '80s with roughly the same setup. The ones I have seen are all wonderful.

A most unusual thing happened yesterday evening!
I went into my bedroom and noticed, out my window, some flashing lights out on the street. Peering out that window I saw what looked like a huge pile of dead foliage on the edge of my yard.
I went out and saw that our energy company trucks were out there as was a neighbor. I asked my neighbor what was going on, and it seems one of the trees on the edge of my yard had given up the ghost during a thunderstorm and had fallen across a power line. Happily, the line had not gone down, and the power company folks were in the process of ensuring said tree would be removed. It was raining, so i came back in the house fully expecting a knock on my door, but that never happened. I see this morning that the tree was taken down and now occupies the edge of my yard.
I have zero idea of what will come next. I would think they will bill me for their efforts in removing my tree from their power line, And I will have to hire someone to haul off the remnants of the tree.
As Roseanne Roseannadanna would say, "It's always somethin'"!
-
We are getting a minor break in the weather today. High should reach 89 (10 degreees cooler than previous days), and we are expecting rain showers.
-
Removing the tree vibes for DR RON PULLIAM

Last night one of the actresses in the show brought some sweet corn from her garden. I got six unshucked ears.
Since I can't eat it with my partial plate....I will offer them to my brother.

Audience was mostly asleep last night.

I went to the doctor this morning, expecting to be yelled at.

Instead, my doctor congratulated me on moving in the right direction.

Color me pleased.

I feel like the proverbial truck ran over me... but in a good way.
Getting home after seeing the show and hanging around with friends afterward, I was up till ALL HOURS. So I got to sleep at approximately all hours o'clock and woke up three (count 'em) hours later, feeling deader than a doornail. What IS a doornail, anyway? I don't think we have any here on our doors. I shall have to check that out. Anyhoo, I laid awake feeling like total crap for an hour, and thankfully fell back to sleep. It just happened that Nathan had the morning off so I wasn't awakened by a starving feline, or even a starving felon, and when I finally awoke it was 9:30 in the a.m. which is practically unheard of these days. I'm already on my second coffee (there'll be more to come), and here I am.
-
I have the day off from work, but my colleagues who are scheduled to work can't; the entire state systems are down.
-
Just reading here now, I heard about the outage and read up briefly on what it was.
-
My first thoughts were another solar flare or some such, or of course some evildoer hacking something or other.
-
Well, you've got the stud part. And you've got the door part.
-
So what are you waiting for?
-
If I were catching a flight to Florida to embark on a cruise, and the airport was closed, I'd be pretty upset.
-
Upsot?
-
The upshot is upsot.
-
Instead, my doctor congratulated me on moving in the right direction.
Very nice!
-
The LL in the PP is a BB.
-
Decode that!

The show was great. And for a number of reasons. This was the first of the two shows this season following the marathon auditioning I played for a few months back, and I have to say they did an incredible job of casting. But all the elements were in place. The direction, choreography, costumes, sets, and the small but extremely well balanced orchestra (8 or 9 players) were as good as - or possibly better than - anything I've seen at this theeder in the 30 years I've been attending and occasionally participating.
It's a high water mark that coincides with the amazing renovations they've just gotten done with: new stage and wings (this is outdoors), new concession stand and tech booth and restrooms (it had been port-a-potties for years), and other improvements to the property that would take a long time to explain. The long delay for it was due to the wait for city funding (it's on an old estate which has been city property for years), but once the funding starting coming through, they seem to be doing everything right with it. There's more to come in the future - namely, a roof over the stage, a permanent orchestra "pavilion" to replace the tents they've been using, and I don't know what else.
-
Tree vibes for Ron. Crazy story.
-
Three!
-
Color me pleased.
Yay!
-
The change in weather, though, was wonderful for the production and audience both. The break in the heat wave and humidity and rain were heavenly, making a perfect night for sitting outdoors. They'll have a great closing weekend of Beauty and the Beast. Next weekend they open Grease.
-
And that's the repor.
-
I must say, though, that I'm having a fairly strong allergy attack this morning, which began after I was up for a bit. My nose and eyes are outta control and my old dear friend Benadryl might have to make an appearance.
-
And so it has. Now to wait for the coming relief.
-
Housework is finished.

DR JohnG, did you get my email yesterday?

Could be a brain fart, but I don't believe I've known of that book. It sounds wonderful, as does your teaching/mentoring project. In spite of music having been the central aspect of my life, I never for one minute believed I had what it takes to literally teach, and my hat is off to those who have the calling and the skill. It certainly does sound like you should take on another student or two or three.

When I moved into this building, my neighbor in 3D was at the time a very unpleasant retired librarian. He drove the neighbor above him in 4D crazy with his constant demands that he stop being noisy after midnight. At one point the police showed up around 3:00a.m. to check on the noise. Only . . . my neighbor was sound asleep; there wasn't any noise, although the librarian claimed there was.
Well, last night, around 8:30, noise began above me, as if someone were slamming furniture down, and it continued after I went to bed. The cats heard it and reacted. I woke around 3:45 this morning, and the noise was continuing. I think the ghosts are throwing a party or furiture at each other.
-
DR JohnG, did you get my email yesterday?
Which? We exchanged several.
-
Larry, I missed the attachment. Let me look at it now.

Two more PPs and then on to FLOWERS.
Last night one of the actresses in the show brought some sweet corn from her garden. I got six unshucked ears.
Since I can't eat it with my partial plate....I will offer them to my brother.
You do know you can cut the kernels off those cobs, don't you? Put them in a pan with a lump of butter and let them simmer/roast over low heat! HEAVEN ON A PLATE!!

Yes, I had meant to say that. For some reason which we've never been able to figure out, Kristi has hated eating corn on the cob since she was a kid. But she loves the corn itself. Just take a knife and shave it off the cob, and Bob's yer uncle.
(He might be DR Jrand73's uncle anyway, for all I know. If not, this will definitely make him one.)
-
DR Elmore - coincidentally, someone in the Musical Theatre Orchestration group on FB just posted about Robert Russell Bennet's Instrumentally Speaking, which he's reading at the NYPL since it can't be checked out. He included photos of a bunch of individual pages, and it looks utterly fascinating. I would zip right through something like that myself, even though I have no earthly reason for doing so other than to further my own appreciation for the craft. And for learning more about the instruments themselves.
-
Larry, check your email.
-
I like Mexican street corn with cooked kernels mixed in with crema or sour cream, mayo, plenty of chili powder or cayenne, salt and black pepper.
-
The easiest dinner I make lately is that recipe with a drained can of corn.

And Jerry likes my corn in cup.

Much ado about trees!

Sigh!

ALL the airports...all over the woooorld (an ELO reference ;) )??

I am amazed at how shallow the roots were for this tree. I have a few more much taller in the same area. I reckon I'm going to have some work done getting all of them down if the ground isn't going to sustain them.

To which I immediately thought: What a wonderful project that would be for some nice place like, oh, say, Kritzerland, if rights were available and all that good stuff. Not that these things are of interest to the masses, but maybe Kritzerland could reach a fair amount of their audience.
Disclaimer: I know nothing of what I'm talking about. But damn it to HELL, wouldn't that be great?

There will always be more corn, DR Jrand73. If there's one thing in life I know, it's that. It's out there. Waiting.
Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if, someday, somebody wrote a musical about it.

In an amusing twist, I got a check today from that guy who bought two CDs, filed a dispute with his cc company, got his CDs, but never responded to a single e-mail, at which point I simply wrote him and said I hope you feel good about yourself. DR Ginny, you asked about the score being published back in March. We've decided at present to hold onto it until something major - if ever - happens. When Doug gets back from his summer commitments, we will put together a concert suite for orchestra performances.

Oh no, DR Ginny. I am so very sorry. Hugs to you and all the extended family.

Thank you for sharing this.

Condolences to Ginny.

Had a very good phone meeting today about one of the several projects in the ether, this being the most important - it's still alive and that's a good thing.
-
Great!
-
Good night, friends.
-
And others.
-
Hugs, Ginny, and vibes of peace.
-
Just finished the Rohmer movie. I missed a score. He never did like those.
-
Starting Civil War. Promising premise.
-
Condolences to Ginny.
Thank you, BK.

Thank you, DR John G. Here’s part of what my niece wrote on Facebook:
“My dad had a stroke on Saturday (7/13/2024) afternoon. Everything was done right as far as response times and emergency services. However, it became apparent that between the stroke and his worsening dementia, meaningful recovery was not possible, and we made the difficult decision provide him with hospice care.
For our family, knowing his last memories are of playing 18 holes of tournament golf, leaving the team as leaders in the clubhouse and eventual champions, and having lunch with dear friends.... really, it couldn't be any better.”
-
That's a very sweet message.
-
I think I have to give up on Civil War tonight. Kirsten Dunst is great. But it's too depressing for my mood.
-
Nothing new to repor except that a tree guy is coming by tomorrow at Noon-ish to survey the situation and offer a quote.
He is highly recommended, however, so...

That's wonderful!

Gratuitous post 199!
-
Condolences to DR GINNY & family.

I have ordered the new paperback version of BK.
-
We had a lively audience and only 18 empty seats.....the LL had a brilliant idea for a bit of business.....and I told her she had probably better ask her mother the director about it.....she said she was just going to do it.....and I repeated my admonition.
When her mother came back for a moment during intermission, she told her about and her mother said NO.
So that was that.....I hope. It didn't happen tonight, but who knows about tomorrow.
-
As I was walking down the stairs backstage on stage right, the LL suggested that maybe we should install a stair lift for me.
I didn't go ahead and offer my suggestion to her.
-
ONE MORE PERFORMANCE!
-
Love to Ginny and family.

Ha! Congratulations on your restraint.
-
Good night, all.
-
Jrand, let me know if it's the new version when it arrives. They do have the new files now, but if they had copies left they'll sell the old version first.
-
If it IS the old version, return it. I can get you the new version directly when I get the hardcovers.

DR George has your niece always had hyperacusis or did it develope later?
She didn't always have it. It developed maybe between 10-15 years ago. :-\
Better than having it as a child, still, I'm sorry there isn't a cure for it.
Thanks. She's dealing with it as best as she can.
-
PAGE EIGHT DANCE!!
-
Hi George! I missed your greeting last night.
-
In an amusing twist, I got a check today from that guy who bought two CDs, filed a dispute with his cc company, got his CDs, but never responded to a single e-mail, at which point I simply wrote him and said I hope you feel good about yourself. Today, a check arrives - no note, nothing but the check.
Well, at least he's (sort of) covertly honest. ;)
-
Still have my mother in town. She’s enjoying time here.
-
Hi George! I missed your greeting last night.
Hi, Rod! No problem. There will always be another greeting. ;D

The computer glitch closed our border last night. Luckily we were home.

Oh, he's here.

With a few minutes to spare.

And Rodzinski, too.

Dear DRs, I’m sad to report that my brother-in-law Jerry passed away yesterday morning.
Oh, no. I'm so very sorry, Ginny. My condolences to you and to Richard and your family. :'(
-
And li'l ol' me.
-
After playing one game of Lhase 10 tonight, my friend Shelly and I went to Olympia's Lakefair. :)
-
BTW, in case you missed them when I had it up for a day or two, there are two Li'l Abner songs up on my YouTube channel - Namely You and Jubilation T. Cornpone. Check 'em out.
-
What's Lhase 10?
-
Is it anything like Phase 10?
-
Did we hear about food?
-
What's Lhase 10?
SPOO! Yes, it was supposed to be Phase 10. ::)
-
Did we hear about food?
At Lakefair, Shelly and I had a Demo Burger, which are burgers sold to raise money for local Democrat candidates running for office.
-
Here's a picture of all the people who were waiting with us, after we ordered our Demo Burgers:
-
New notes are up.
-
Up are new notes.
-
I've seen them.
-
I've read them.
-
I wrote them.
-
Abd here's a picture of the much fewer people waiting at the Republican booth:
-
And there they are.
-
And there's page nine.
-
A fine page.
-
Nothing to sneeze at, nine pages.
-
While there, I saw several people walking around with some pretty cool souvenir cups.
-
This is the one that I thought was so cool, so I bought one:
