Well, you've read the notes, the notes were choreographed, and now it is time for you to post until the choreographed cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: CHARMING!
-
And now - Dino at the piano.

Good morning, friends.

Just don't get lipstick in your lasagna.
But you may stick your lips into the lasagna.

Monday morning greetings from the Central Savannah River Area, town of Johnston, in South Carolina.
It is a mild 74 degrees here. It's humid, of course. Rain is expected within the next hour.
Sigh.
-
I think we're going to get some more rain as well.
-
I was almost used to it being July when it suddenly became obvious that the month is nearly over.
How is it that time passes so quickly when one is retired?
-
TOD:
All of those mentioned in the notes.....I shall have to think a bit about some more.
-
Good morning DR Jack Randall

Just don't get lipstick in your lasagna.
Didn't Ethel Merman play Lola Lasagna on Batman?

Good morning, all!

Just don't get lipstick in your lasagna.
Didn't Ethel Merman play Lola Lasagna on Batman?
Google says "Batman" spelled it Lola Lasagne

I slept well, but when the alarm rang, I still wanted another couple of hours to doze.

Hopefully, the plumber will show up to repair the bathroom leak topday.
-
Beyond that, I have no plans. My original plan was to do the laundry, but I need to be here when/if the plumber shows up.
-
I believe my favorite choreography of all time remains "The Waiter's Galop" from Hello Dolly! I first saw the number in the national tour with Mary Martin, on Broadway with a not-so-hot Ginger Rogers, and the 1978 and 1995 revivals with Carol Channing. Right along with it, "Who's that Woman?" from Follies and Jerome Robbins' Atlantic City ballet from Higth Button Shoes, which I first saw in Jerome Robbins Broadway and was beautifully recreated in the not-so-hot Encores! production of High Button Shoes.

PLUMBING VIBES for DR elmore3003!!!

"Just gardening. You?"
-
Good morning, all.

Hopefully, the plumber will show up to repair the bathroom leak topday.
This is what's wrong with the state of the nation today. If we had only learned what the adult entertainment of the 70s and 80s had taught us, we'd be able to pick up the phone, call the plumber's office, and someone would be there in the next minute or so. Now it's all so damn complicated.
-
BK - This is a horror story.
Where do people come up with the cojones to treat any material this way? And then to admit to their own untenable legal position by doing what they did with it yesterday? What kind of life lessons did this just teach their students?
I'm sharing this with our producer and director as a (completely unnecessary) cautionary tale. In our region we're likewise used to the occasional prominent person being liable to show up, sometimes even unannounced. And just to pass along inspiration for making the very best of the material - as we tackle the revised version in the fall.
-
I think we're going to get some more rain as well.
And here in Tumwater, as well! First time in a while, and it's needed!

TOD 1
On my first visit to NYC, I saw 42nd Street, Nine ad My One and Only. I can still remember so many wonderful choreographic marvels. The title number of 42nd Street was a sensory overload with 48 dancers tapping through the story. Anita Morris in her cutout lace slinking through A Call from the Vatican. Liliane Montivecci pulling out the eternal feather boa during Folies Bergere. Then just about every moment of My One and Only.
-
Two!

I once saw a Forever Plaid where Jinx was the confident one, and they wrote out the audience member part and put in the Kilty Fairy.

Liking The Outsiders more than The Notebook. But “now” and “towel” don’t rhyme.

TOD 2:
Patricia Birch’s work on Charlie’s Place from Over Here!
Fosse’s Beat Me Daddy in Big Deal
Bennett’s original staging of Turkey Lurkey Time
Fosse’s Big Spender and There’s Gotta Be Something Better Than This
Robbins’s All I Need Now Is the Girl
Tommy Tune’s Ziegfeld recreations in The Will Rogers Follies

Waiting for proctor training.

I think the rains have passed. It’s now super hot and steamy outside.
-
I think we're going to get some more rain as well.
And here in Tumwater, as well! First time in a while, and it's needed!
We also have rain today.

I'm up, I'm up - I guess I got eight or nine hours of sleep.

Will go to the mail place shortly.

Then do Gelson's.

Then eat.

I loved it! This may be the only documentation of this number from the original production. I saw Lansbury in a cheap facsimile of this around 1984 and it wasn't this good. Barry Kent, who plays Beauregard here was the original London Sir Lancelot in Camelot with Laurence Harvey.

Donald Saddler hasn't been mentioned. I love these two dances from No, No, Nanette.. quality is less than optimal.

At this hour, page three?
-
I went to the mail place and then Gelson's. Got stuff for sandwiches as well as a teeny-tiny half-rack of five teeny-tiny ribs. Those are eaten.
-
On Your Toes. Title song. See this live just sent me over the mon.

-
Talk about you rabbit holes. Walking Happy is my favorite part of this hour.

-
Wayne Cilento does Onna White's great If The Rain's Got to Fall from Half a Sixpence
-
So, I'm in Puyallup right now.
-
My sister wanted me to get a specific fabric from JoAnn Fabrics, but the Olympia store doesn't have any in stock.
-
This is an Onna White dance sequence from the movie "Bye Bye Birdie" -
Very different (from the stage version) "A Lot of Livin' to Do"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rS38PiZ2-RA
-
The closest store that had it was Tacoma, but thd Puyallup store, which is only about five more miles away, had more yards available.
-
This is the fleece fabric that my sister wants:
-
But the main reason why I de idea to go to the Puyallup store is because one if the last Skippers (https://www.skippers.com/) restaurants is in Puyallup.
-
I used to love Skippers, and there used to be one in Lacey, but it closed many years ago, so I decided to go to the Skippers and see if it's still as good as I remember it being.
-
Well, the store itself is obviously old, but cozy. :)
-
The only bad part (in my opinion) is that they only had Coke Zero Sugar as the only non-sugared soda (I'm not a fan of tea), and not diet Coke! :P
-
Coke Zero Sugar tastes much too much like regular Coke, and I don't like regular Coke at all.
-
Otherwise, the fish was really good, and the fries not great, but not bad enough to dislike.
-
I certainly won't make a special trip to come back here, but I'm glad I had the opportunity to experience it. :)
-
And now, I must hie myself back to the environs of Tumwater and deliver said fleece to my sister.
-
LeRoy Reams and Janet Eilber do the same number from Nanette that Bbby Van and Helen Gallagher do. They lack the ease of Van and Gallagher and work harder at selling it. Interesting comparison.
-
A Danny Daniels number that has an unfortunate mishap about halfway through. But the rest is sublime
https://youtu.be/30WM5jXiX5M?si=U3rwBsyDkXWtYkQn
-
My friend Gene Castle did this incredible Joe Layton number in George M - one of the greatest dance performances I've ever seen. Here, it's Wayne Cilento doing it - technically perfect but without a trace of what the number is called - PERSONALITY - which Gene had in spades. Then again, it was created for Gene. Go to 3:50 to watch. https://youtu.be/9iww3ZTU6rM?si=3cM7uJ6DKokcXV7h
-
And here's Bennet's Poor Little Person - simple as can be, but perfect.
https://youtu.be/6lyv67Peo4w?si=-GDAjcgboR8thZ35
-
And Bennett and Tommy Tune's incredible It's Not Where You Start it's Where You Finish from Seesaw. We're never gonna see numbers like this again.

My book discussion group was today.
-
It was my turn to lead the discussion.
-
My pick of "The Women" was a good choice for a discussion.
-
-
I loved The American Dance Machine......
-
I've got my work computer back!
-
It required going into the office and having the IT gurus work their magic.
-
I also got a clean bill of health from the dentist.

:)

Otherwise, I felt behind the 8-ball all day.

Not a dance number, but remembering the late David Carroll, probably best known for "Chess" and "Grand Hotel" on Broadway, for his birthday July 30 -
This was an audio demo recording that David Carroll had recorded with Janie Smulyan of the song "Time and Time Again" - music and lyrics by Skip Kennon, book of the musical TIME AND AGAIN by Jack Viertel

TOD: It's a movie, not a show, but I love Twyla Tharp's choreography in the Hair movie.
-
Today was the first open rehearsal for the Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music in Santa Cruz. Now that I'm on the board, I'm going to a lot more festival events outside of the concerts than usual. The orchestra was sounding great even in these first readings. The first concert is on Friday.

Page five???

Truly insufferable.
-
And ridic.
-
What the HELL is going on with this here site?
-
Just where WAS everyone today?
-
There was so much interesting stuff today and so few postings - I don't get it.
-
And it doesn't get me.
-
Clearly.
-
And George already took a hike because why should he make posts when he can do whatever the HELL it is he does until one minute to midnight.
-
Probably living in Burritoville.
-
Or chewing on some wax lips.
-
Or smoking some candy cigarettes.
-
Or having an Orange Soda Pop.
-
Or eating salt water taffy.
-
Who the HELL knows and he certainly isn't talking.
-
Not our George.
-
No, not him.
-
It's just li'l ol' me.
-
Heavy lifting.
-
The burden is on li'l ol' me.
-
No help.
-
I have this Herculean task.
-
No one else.
-
I gotta tell you.
-
And George WILL be held responsible.
-
He really will.
-
Without question.
-
No doubt about it.
-
I think the new notes are fascinating.
-
I was fascinated at all the fascinating things.
-
They held my attention.
-
And I held theirs.
-
A whole page of ME.
-
Smiling, with a green background.
-
No other faces yet on this page.
-
Page six.
-
Which is ridic.
-
And, of course, no George. It's his jam, you know.
-
He needs a good, swift kick in the pants.
-
It's midnight.
-
Time to put your camel to bed.
-
I do not care for page seven.
-
I do not care for George's absence.
-
New notes are up.
-
Up are new notes.
-
I've seen them.
-
I've read them.
-
I wrote them.
-
They were fascinating.
-
George's absence is NOT fascinating.
-
Today, after I went to JoAnn Fabrics in Puyallup to get some fabric for my sister, I went to the Puyallup Skippers and had some fish and chips for an early dinner.
-
Well, nothing to be done about it. He has abandoned us in our hour of need.
-
I haven't had any of their fish and chips in years...at least, not in an actual Skippers restaurant.
-
Oh, NOW he shows up, at three minutes PAST midnight. What's THAT - a new jam.
-
Ridic.
-
They also have Skippers-To-Go at some grocery stores and convenient stores.
-
And what, he left already?
-
Oh, NOW he shows up, at three minutes PAST midnight. What's THAT - a new jam.
I've been looking for a reasonably priced storage unit for Theater Artists Olympia since we're being kicked out of our theater.
-
And what, he left already?
No, it just takes a time to type. ::)
-
And now, since we're so close...
-
Gratuitous Post #200!!
-
I need to find a storage unit that's 10 feet by 20 feet (or so) and hopefully be less than $300 a month.
-
When I started looking, I just was looking for something kind of close to the mall, but I don't think that that's really necessary.
-
The moving of the stuff (chairs, lights, risers, etc.) is a one-time occurrence, but a higher monthly payment for a moment of convenience would not be a good thing.
-
So, I need to find something with a good price.
-
And I also need to see what the full price will be!
-
A lot of websites only list the "move in special" price and not the regular monthly price once that introductory price expires.
-
I don't like that.
-
It just makes everything more difficult.
-
So, hopefully, I can find the regular prices without having to call places tomorrow.
-
PAGE EIGHT DANCE!! :D
-
Whew!!
-
After I came home from Puyallup, I found a few more programs that I recorded onto VHS tapes from TV that I think I want to burn to DVD.
-
Last week (or maybe a couple of weeks ago), I found a tape with the PBS program, Grand Night for Singing: Public Television's Gift To You.
-
Tonight, I found a VHS tape with a companion concert, Grand Night: The Performing Arts Salute Public Television.
-
Both programs have a mix of Broadway and opera performers, but this second program adds a symphony conducted by Gerard Schwartz, and several dance companies.
-
I don't know which was recorded first, but they probably were recorded within a couple of years of each other.
