Well, you've read the notes, the notes were not lost in the wilderness because the notes, like me, have never BEEN in the wilderness, and now it is time for you to post until the lost cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: VIM!
-
Vim. I need some damn vim for tomorrow.
-
A nice dollop of vim would do the trick.
-
Good morning, all!
-
It was a very restless night of sleep accompanied by three restless cats. Around 5:30, Thatch started sniffing the side of my head and then bit off some hair. I was not amused.
-
Caleb Carr's final book My Beloved Monster is divided like Gaul into three parts. Last night I finished part two. The penultimate chapter to part two is an account of a cat - Chimene - he had been given as a kitten just before he entered high school. Chimene's tale is tied in to the previous chapter's account of Masha's being attack by something because of parallels to Chimene's existence approximately forty years before.
When I was fourteen, I was given for Christmas a six-week-old Siamese kitten I named Ming. The parallels between Carr and Chimene and me and Ming were too similar, and by the time I reached his account of Chimene's betrayal and end when Carr was in his mid- to late-20s, I was weeping like a wild thing and wailing like a banshee. I will not tell of Chimene's history, but I will admit that by the time I was in my late 20s, still living in Ohio with mom and dad, completely unsure of myself or where I was going, I took Ming for granted. She was the house cat I loved when I was home but a non-entity when I was away or dealing with my own issues. One day, God knows why, Ming - then around sixteen - attacked the leg of one of my foolish mother's more foolish friends. There was a torn calf, blood on the floor, and the next day my mother took Ming to the vet and had her euthanized. At the time, I thought nothing of it, but the older I've become, my guilt over that beloved cat's murder and my betrayal in letting it happen gnaws at me.

I did have two bits of luck yesterday. Joshie called me about a possible job. Nothing's solid, but I said yes. The, after two months in New England while I took care of their mail, Ann and Jen were in for a day, so we had a lovely visit. Jen has family on Martha's Vineyard, and Ann is dealing with family health issues in Boston. They left for Boston last night, but school begins in an other three weeks, so they'll soon be back in the building. I've missed them.

Eye Vibes or DR JANE.

DR JOHN G is it Microsoft 365 you are talking about?
It's horrible. I still can't figure out how to save a document to a folder.....it automatically saves it to The Cloud.....I can find no option. If I save it as a PDF, I can put it into a folder. I downloaded an old version of MicroSoft Word that I bought on EBAY, so i don't have to worry about that anymore.
Besides all of the OTHER stuff I hate about it.

I like the suggestion that "dinner with presents" can potentially turn a dinner into a party!
Or was I reading something into that?

Hmmm...."With A Song in My Heart" is definitely one, along with "Love Me or Leave Me".
I like the choices others have made, especially "Patton", "Lawrence of Arabia" and "Yankee Doodle Dandy".
"The Song of Bernadette" qualifies, I think. And "I'll Cry Tomorrow" ?
"Capote", "Lincoln" and "MacArthur" are in there, too.

My easy dinner was good. I think I will repeat it again next week. I had made egg salad the night before, eating a couple of bites at 5:45am, an had that on sour bread toast along with sliced carrots and a sliced peach. A super easy dinner after a day of not eating.

DR George, the length of time the burning sensation lasts varies. This morning is wasn't too bad, and only with one drop. Maybe I am getting used to them.

We have two versions of the entire Microsoft Office suite here at home that are way older than any of you are talking about - so you'll laugh, but here they are (both are Windows versions):
OFFICE 2003. A friend gave me a hacked install disc many years ago, and it has continued to install and work repeatedly even on the Win10 machines Kristi and Nathan have. (Mine's still a Win7.) She's a writer, she knows Word and Publisher 2003 inside and out, and has never wanted to move on from that version, the last one before Microsoft implemented the "ribbon" style of menus. It includes all the features she needs. Its Word files are ".doc" as opposed to ".docx" which I believe started with...
OFFICE 2007. When my then-employer was moving the company to OFFICE 2010 or whatever the next major implementation was, they had a deal with Microsoft that employees could purchase our own legitimate copies of 2007 from Microsoft for something like $15 or $20. I was used to that version and jumped at the offer. I still have the special install disc Microsoft sent, and I don't know if there was a limit on number of times I could install it, but it hasn't been any problem yet. I'm an Excel user, and have dabbled in Access, the powerful database program that isn't even available in the Apple world. So, even though most things I do are on a Mac now, I keep a Windows machine for the Microsoft suite and a couple of other Windows-only things, and I have no reason whatever to move on from there.

From Bruce:
I'm gonna figure all the eye surgery out and get it done soon.
It seems to me sooner is better than later. I wish I could have done this years ago, except my cataracts weren't bad enough.
Since you only need reading glasses, for you it might only be a matter of removing the cataracts and you won't need an vision lenses.
-
I don't think I recall any burning sensation from any of the eye drops related to cataract surgery, either before or after. Mainly, after what seems like WEEKS of doing that repeatedly, it just gets to be a real drag.

George, happy belated birthday to Shelly.

Speaking of the Fat orange Slug, is former DR cillaliz still drinking the same old kool-aid?

Oh good lord.
Okay, out of 40, I count roughly 30 that I have, and only a couple of others I'd really want. A couple of those I have should possibly be upgraded from DVD to BD, but on some films I'm not so picky about that. So... thanks, Criterion, you just saved me a BUNDLE. :)

The arguments being made by the GOP about Walz's military service are specious.
There is nothing dishonorable about serving 24 years, holding a Command Sergeant Major post for a period, and then opting to leave the service with an honorable discharge. If Walz OWED any more time to the Army, he would not have been allowed to retire. Period.
For the record, J.D. Vance, saw no military action. His service in a war zone was inconsequential and not a danger to his life. I know. I had several tours in military war zones, was never in any danger, and don't consider myself more worthy than anyone who never had that service. Vance is a putz. Trump is human excrement. The GOP are filled with both.
Even though Walz never attained the full position of Command Sergeant Major, serving as same for a period grants him the right to claim the title. All the rest of that argument is pure horse doody.

But first - page SIX?

Not very sporting.

Rather anemic.

Rather spotty.

Well, here's page seven. There is a vicious rumor going around that I do not care for page seven. Does anyone know if there's any truth to it?
-
But at least we're here.
-
Lord knows I've been there.
-
We were on page six for what seemed like an eternity.
-
From here to eternity.
-
Some came running.
-
What am I, James Jones all of a sudden?
-
I have loverly first editions of From Here to Eternity and Some Came Running.
-
Do you?
-
There are some first editions that I've had that I really wish I still had, like the original French Le Petit Prince, Waiting for Godot, all the early Ross MacDonald books, Raymond Chandler's The High Window signed to Billy Wilder the year they wrote Double Indemnity. First edition of To Kill a Mockingbird AND the Advance Reading Copy. All the classic Cornell Woolrich books.
-
And a few others.
-
Where'd George go?
-
He was here and now he's there.
-
He'll probably be back at one minute to midnight to honor his jam.

Honor His Jam - that's the title of my next novel.

Perhaps I should tell the tale of The Randy Vicar and the Pipe Cleaner.

Does anyone still use a pipe cleaner?

Does anyone still smoke a pipe.

I used to pretend to smoke my father's pipe. We never saw him smoke it even once.

My dad actually smoked pipes for a hot minute in the 1970s.

I don't smoke anything, and that includes the marijuana cigarettes.

Nor do I eat the marijuana gummies.

I leave that to other HIGH-minded types.

Neither do I. :P
-
I have some soda crackers here.
-
I just thought I'd mention that.
-
In case anyone was wondering, soda cracker-wise.
-
I was cracking wise earlier in the day.
-
It was enjoyable.
-
Nor do I eat the marijuana gummies.
I haven't had any gummies, but I have had a couple of truffles. They really didn't anything to/for me.
-
I wonder if the soda pop and the soda cracker ever got together.
-
:-\
-
Marijuana is the devil's work.
-
Drugs are evil.
-
They turn people into the living dead.
-
People now have gummies on their backs.
-
They can't stop with the damn gummies.
-
I have never had the cocaine.
-
The closest I've come to cocaine is powdered sugar.
-
I've never had the heroin.
-
I've never freebased.
-
I've never paid to based.
-
In short, I'm clean as a whistle and ready for love.
-
I'm straight as an arrow.
-
Add to that, I don't get liquored up - no drinks.
-
I'm pure as the driven snow.
-
Is snow driven? Where was it going?
-
New notes are up.
-
Up are new notes.
-
I've seen them.
-
I've read them.
-
I wrote them.
-
They have a rather lurid and shocking title.
-
All that and page eight.
-
Marijuana is the devil's work.
It's Reefer Madness! (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8P_qjLhtA74) :o

My computer AND my phone have all of a sudden become very slow!
