Well, you've read the notes, the notes grinned and bared it, and now it is time for you to post until the grinning cows come home.

And the word of the day is: ARCTIC!

We could use a little arctic around these here parts.

Yes we could.

Well, this is cool. It's a Seattle weather report from about two hours ago:

I went to see 10cc for the closing night of their USA tour in San Francisco. It's the first time they've played in this country since 1978! The show was everything I hope for from this tour.

I love Ted Lasso - even did the Ted Lasso tour in Richmond when I was in London a couple years ago. Give it a little time for it to build from the initial setup.

It's raining like a sonuvabeach out there, probably for most of the day.
I didn't have a chance to even think about going this year, but this wipes out the last day of the very popular Bridgewater Country Fair. A couple of you probably know what that is.

When I realized that it was a gloomy rainy day, I decided to sleep in with the cats. We've had a leisurely morning puttering around the apartment and a tasty breakfast for all. I've decided to put off the laundry to tomorrow and have a lazy do-nothing day.

I'm hoping to finish the last two chapters of Caleb Carr's My Beloved Monster today. It will be painful and heart-wrenching. The last chapter I read last night was a horrifyingly brutal setup, with a farm cat predator, the fisher, for the final two.
-
Don't confuse the two!
-
I find Carr's obscuring of time and names often frustrating. The chapter with the fisher takes place around twelve years after he adopted Masha and after the 2012 publication of his novel The Legend of Broken, which was originally intended to be three novels, and the 2014-15 TV production of The Alienist. I still have no idea what the year was when Masha was adopted or in what year she died.
He refers to people in his life by appellations like "My Older Brother," "Two Cat Woman," "the Lady Vet," or "My Mentor."

Does anyone have the Harvard Classics volume of The Arabian Nights? If so, is it the Richard Burton translation? Kindle is offering the whole classics set for $1.99. I should just buy it.

I read the first half of the Arabian Nights in the Burton translation but never got volume two.

Happy SUNday to everyone...it's a warm weekend here in LA to go along with our very warm Summer. This week's Broadway Radio Show is Sounds of Summer as I sample 10 recent album releases, which all happen to feature some very talented female vocalists. You'll hear Grammy winners like Janis Siegel and Tony winners like Patti LuPone along with newcomers like LA's own Natalie Jacob, the UK's Julie Atherton, and a trio of NY's finest performers.

And I am home.
DR FREDDIE I went for the express purpose of seeing Deadpool & Wolverine.
I liked it - the story was a mess - but it rolled right along and hit all the expected highs, lows, and middles.
It cost me $6.....I don't buy movie house treats.
I thought the sound system had a glitch, but about 3/4's of the way through the movie, I realized it was the guy sitting behind me crunching M&Ms very slowly - all the way through the moooooooooooovvvvviiiiiiiiiiieeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

I started Gideon's Trumpet yesterday. I'm hooked. It's the classic tale of the man who was not given an attorney when he asked for one after his arrest. The case made it to the Supreme Court.

That is kind of funny about the candy cruncher even though I too would find it very annoying. Was it crowded and you couldn't move?

DR JANE there were less than a dozen folks there....including a mother and her two young sons - at an R rated movie (they made half a dozen trips to the restroom during the movie).
I could have moved, I guess, but I am not steady in the dark - so I stayed put and lived through it.
I can just figure he bought the FAMILY size bag. He did leave before I did - I stayed for a lot of the credits.....so I don't know what he looked like.
My guess is - one BIG M&M.

Dining out tonight with my brother-in-law and his wife.

-
DR Jrand73, you should have given him the side-eye.
-
Although how effective that would have been in the dark, I can't say.
-
I just watched the last 40 minutes of A Delicate Balance.
I have never read/seen the play.....but now I want to see it from the beginning.
Except that Joseph Cotten and Katharine Hepburn were too old compared to the other actors....it was excellent....and i can forgive that because of the performances they give.
Directed by Tony Richardson. I read a biography of Tony Richardson written by the guy who wrote the novel INSIDE DAISY CLOVER - they had been at school together - and it was very interesting....and also disclosed an affair between the book author and Nicholas Ray......
-
My guess is - one BIG M&M.
Hard on the outside, smooth and creamy on the inside?

Hello, everyone.

Speaking of the heat, this DR can’t wait for the weather to cool down. Daytime in my ‘hood isn’t bad—80 to 85– but it’s difficult to cool the apartment down in the evening.
When I was living in the East fall couldn’t come soon enough, but I don’t recall feeling that way here. Perhaps I have even less tolerance than before. Sigh.

I finished Caleb Carr's devastating dual biography of himself and his Siberian Forest cat Masha. I actually had three chapters to go when I posted this morning. Masha was close to twenty years old when she died on April 5. The year seems to be 2021, since he mentions a winter after 2020. I'm guessing his 17 years of life with Masha were 2021. The encounter with the fisher, which I had read last night, happened just before the 2016 positive New York Times Book Review of his 2016 novel Surrender, New York.
After griping about generic names for character - My Mentor, Lady Vet - Carr does acknowledge many of them at the end of the book.
-
BK, I had meant this morning to sympathize with you over the air conditioner situation. I am so happy that it will be corrected tomorrow.

Good night, Jane
-
I swear, the heat has really gotten to me today. Once again, I thought I'd posted one of the many times I was up.
-
I slept only a few hours.
-
I got up before eleven, answered e-mails spent an hour choosing songs, which has become easier since I decided what I was going to call the show.
-
Then I ordered from a Chinese place that had mostly excellent reviews on Yelp, which proves once again that no one on Yelp has a clew about Chinese food. I ordered the small portion of orange chicken - their description uses the word CRISPY prominently. I added, "Extra crispy, please." I also ordered the appetizer of popcorn chicken.
-
It arrived pretty quickly. I began with the orange chicken.
-
Crispy. Extra crispy. Do words have no meaning anymore? What i got was the opposite of crispy - no crispy - anti-crispy - then we add completely flavorless to that and I ate about four or five pieces before depositing it in the trash.
-
Then the popcorn chicken. The seasoning was fine (salt and pepper) but it was like eating seasoned erasers. I had about eight small pieces before it joined the anti-crispy orange chicken in the trash. What a waste of a meal and money. And it wasn't enough food for even halff a meal, so I fear I'm gonna have to order something else soon.
-
Happily, I had a couple of pieces of See's candy here and those helped. Also, I had nice fortunes from the two fortune cookies. They're not gonna be thrilled with the Yelp review but the point of Yelp reviews is to be truthful and that is what I intend to be, in my own light-hearted way.
-
Gonna try and find a movie to watch, having watched way too many irritating videos this afternoon.
-
I'm still irritated about the food - and who wouldn't be?
-
CRISPY - it spells a word. And that word has a meaning and the meaning is not squishy and gross.
-
Maybe I'll have a little sandwich.
-
Something light. I probably only had three or four hundred calories.
-
I'm so hot that I don't even care that I do not care for page seven.
-
Congrats to George on his splendiferous new number.
-

That's too bad, BK. A week ago Friday, I went to the local Eagan's and ordered a Bacon Burger, and the bacon was floppy and chewy.
-
I hate bacon that's either floppy or chewy and this was both! :P
-
Well, I went back this past Friday (I will always go back to Eagan's) and specifically asked for crispy bacon and they made it very crispy...and it wasn't burnt either! It was quite delish!

Enjoying Hannah Waddingham in Ted Lasso.
She's amazing, and she gets to sing in a few episodes, which is a real treat.
Hope your Mom is feeling better soon.

Thank you.
I'm halfway through season one. It's getting better.
-
Good night, all.
-
Apparently, it's a lovely seventy-four outside. In here? Eighty-one.
-
EIGHTY-ONE.
-
For the cheap seats: E I G H T Y - O N E.
-
Well, it's appropriate as we're on page eight.
-
I mean, page nine.
-
Finished with my viewing.
-
It's hot up here. It's hot and it's monotonous.
-
So wrote my close personal friend, Mr. Stephen Sondheim.
-
Nobody here but us hot chickens.
-
Hot spell.
-
Too darn hot.
-
Havin' a heat wave.
-
Steam heat.
-
Hot, hot, hot.
-
Have no idea how I'm supposed to sleep tonight, the sixth night in a row for this madness.
-
None.
-
Nada.
-
George will probably show up in about twenty minutes.
-
Probably.
-
No certainty.
-
In other news, it's hot.
-
Maybe I'll sleep in the nude, but that would be crude, not to mention lewd and rude - I'd probably brood, or listen to the cast album of Drood.
-
Or maybe I'll get stewed or eat some food.
-
Or have some attitude.
-
Bottom line - it's HOT.
-
I've been drinking more Diet Cokes than usual as it's the only thing that is cooling.
-
Thie is the big heat.
-
This is in the heat of the night.
-
Dear me.
-
I will take a shower before bed as that will relax me.
-
Well, George and his jam are certainly not jamming here.
-
He is elsewhere.
-
Eating a burrito.
-
Are we REALLY going to have a full page of me?
-
I guess we did.
-
And I guess this is page ten. I like page ten.
-
A nice number.
-
I was ten once.
-
So was Benjamin Kritzer.
-
I'm hoping books will arrive this week.
-
George has two minutes to get here.
-
Because I WILL change the topic right after notes are posted, because I really need to sleep as much as I can.
-
Now he's got one minute.
-
Not very sporting of old George.
-
Later and later.
-
He has no minutes to arrive and the notes are going up in thirty seconds.
-
New notes are up.
-
Up are new notes.
-
I've seen them.
-
I've read them.
-
I wrote them.

BK, do you have a quiet little fan that you can have on while you sleep?
