Well, you've read the notes, the notes had ice cubes and water, and now it is time for you to post until the icy and watery cows come home.

And the word of the day is: RESONATE!

Like sands in the hourglass, so are the cats of our lives...

Hmmm. A sand meme theme. So early in the morning.

Let's try this instead.

I watched the convention last night through Bill Clinton's appearance, then decided - much as I wanted to see Tim Walz - it was time for bed. I was looking forward to seeing Pete Buttigieg as well, but it was too late and I'm too old.
-
DR vixmom, I'm happy to read your ma is doing better.
-
I never did hear from Joshie yesterday; I assume that was because he was travelinmg from his holiday. I'll call him today and check on him.
-
Thursday - I have three days for myself!
-
MR BK obviously your television set is possessed by The Devil.
-
MR BK did you see my post yesterday about my new BK paperback?
It arrived yesterday and says it was printed in July, 2024 - so I would say it was the NEW EDITION......it looks very nice.
-
I am going shopping in a bit.
And maybe do some lawn mowing today.
-
Be An Angel Day - I shall endeavor.
DR GEORGE thanks for the link to the convention from last night.

Good morning
-
Time to start settling back into my old routine after weeks of being scattered
-
So first of all Wordle
-
I've begun The King's Assassin, a biography of George Villiers, the Duke of Buckingham, who rose to power as the lover of King James I. In Dumas' The Three Musketeers, he is the over-wrought love of Queen Anne, whose diamond studs cause all the fuss before he is assassinated through the intrigues of Cardinal Richelieu and Milady de Winter. The biography is most interesting but the print is very small.

I have no major plans today. I must clean off my work table to begin the project with Joshie and Jason, since I'll need to work on it over the weekend. I've got a pile of addressed cartons and envelopes sitting on it, waiting for me to get to the post office.

Good morning.

TOD:
Roy Scheider - Marathon Man, Jaws, All That Jazz
Robert Shaw - Jaws, Young Winston, A Man for All Seasons
Richard Dreyfuss - Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind, Jaws, Down and Out in Beverly Hills, The Competition
(Among many I enjoy by each actor).

Awww, such a sweet photo!

This morning, I get an overdue haircut.
I shall follow that up with getting lunch somewhere. Probably The (Don't Be a Square Eat at the) Triangle. Today IS cubed steak Thursday. I hope they don't let me down. They didn't have pork chops this week, and they make fantastic pork chops.

I'm going to be spending much of today scanning the band books for SNOOPY. So many people, myself included, play from iPads these days, so we need music in PDF form for that, and I like to make sure we have backups for everything anyway.

All That Jazz
Marathon Man
Sorcerer
Naked Lunch

Looking through the actual parts, I think I'm going to be impressed at how this version is scored. It's just six players - piano/conductor, 2nd keyboard, violin, reeds, bass, and drums. At a glance, the parts look to be colorful and fun.
-
Mom slept peacefully last night, I am told.

Gretchen Cryer who wrote a musical with a similar name was married to David Cryer....they met while they were students at DePauw University.
Their son is Jon Cryer.
When David and his now wife - they met while doing a Broadway show with Ray Bolger - David told the story of when he was given an award at DePauw. He opened his acceptance speech by telling the audience how nervous he was because his first wife and his new wife were sitting side by side in the audience.

Back in 2012 I did THE CRUCIBLE with David and his wife Britt Swanson at DePauw.....they were such fun. He had just left the Broadway production of PHANTOM OF THE OPERA he had played one of the owners of the opera house on the road and on Broadway for many years.....
Britt told the story that when they were doing Come Summer with Mr. Bolger, Britt who was a featured dancer was backstage and stepped back to let someone pass - and stepped on Ray Bolger's foot. He laughed and said "Baby, watch that million dollar instep....it's money in the bank."
Britt also said that Ray would NEVER say a negative thing about anyone or anybody. If there was something he didn't like, he sent his wife Gwen to the producers to complain for him. So everyone loved him and hated her.....
-
Britt also told about working as a class assistant with Agnes DeMille - and at the end of the day - Ms. DeMille would give her a signed check filled out with the amount....and told her "You can fill in your name and rest of it....."
-
Read about Come Summer here.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Come_Summer
Britt said they got great reviews on the road but when they got into NYC - it was a disaster. And everybody blamed everybody else. She said it was the only show she ever did that somebody blamed the backdrops for its failure......
-
David Cryer did win a Theatre World Award for his role in the show.

Finishing up a dystopian novel called Lark Ascending. It’s by a Kentuckian named Silas House. It’s fairly interesting. The Fundies (fundamentalists) have taken over America sfter climate change has made it unlivable. The main character escapes to Ireland, which has just stopped taking in immigrants. Lark wants to survive. He meets a dog snd a mother figure. Together they hit the road for a supposedly better place.

I interviewed Gretchen Cryer when she started a business selling frozen meals for housebound folks. The food was pretty good. She was fun to speak with.
I was friendly with Gretchen while I was working at Barnes & Noble, 1998-2004. I believe she relocated then to Los Angeles to be close to her son. I liked her very much. I saw her in the Martha Jefferson role in 1776, August 1969.

Packed most of my suitcase, so I can leave when the time comes.
When my dad's health became terminal in 2006, I took my suit home on one of my visits and left it at Randy's home so I would not need to worry about it if/when the time came.

DR Jrand73, I loved the Come Summer stories. I believe Margaret Hamilton was in it, and I'm looking forward to reading the link you posted.

Well, the project is on. Jason Buell, with whom I worked on the Loesser restorations of Guys & Dolls and How to Succeed in Business . . ., works with the Jule Styne estate. He, Joshie, and I are going to restore Gypsy, slogging through all the materials that exist, from original full scores, national tour parts, amateur-stock parts, and several revivals.

For any of you Expanse fans (like me), the author(s) has(have) written a new book that's the beginning of a whole new series!
Review: The Mercy of Gods begins a bold new saga from The Expanse author James S.A. Corey (https://winteriscoming.net/posts/review-the-mercy-of-gods-begins-a-bold-new-saga-from-the-expanse-author-james-s-a-corey-01j3783fbhrg)
The authors of The Expanse are at it again, with a brand new science fiction novel that's the start of an imaginative alien epic.
-
I'm currently reading Tiamat's Wrath, book 8 of The Expanse, so I'll start The Mercy of Gods when I'm done with that.
-
DR RODZINSKI did you see Godzilla yet?

That's nice DR ELMORE. Congrats on the project.
Here in Indiana it is MORE than rare to get first hand stories about Broadway.....so I am much attune to those I get......
Glad to hear the Gretchen was nice.....as almost all DePauw graduates are.....said with no prejudice....of course.

Fun stories from "the biz" from DR Jrand73.

I don't know if she ever did.

All will be revealed on PAGE SEVEN

All will be revealed on PAGE SEVEN
You mean the not-cared-for PAGE SEVEN?

Because that's where it's all happening, don't you know.
Well, was it not the case that the 70,000 millstone coincided with good luck for elmore?

Because your A/C is working and because you have ice cubes.
-
That's the way I see it.
-
I may be wrong.
-
It has been known to happen.
-
Happen it has been known to.
-
Known to happen it has been.
-
I can go on with this nonsense all night.
-
But I will spare you all.
-
I will spare ribs.
-
One more.

Good night, friends.

And others.

I'm currently reading Tiamat's Wrath, book 8 of The Expanse, so I'll start The Mercy of Gods when I'm done with that.
Did you put a hold on it?
Yes, two. I'm #13 on on 2 copies from my library (13 week wait), and #10 on 6 copies at Pierce County (4 week wait).

Greetings from our last day in Tokyo. Last full day, anyway.
Am wondering if there is any truth to the rumor that the Tokyo Rodzilla has been awakened and is wreaking havoc.
:))
-
Best deal - Diet Coke 12-pack - 9.98 each - same as Gelson's - UNLESS you buy three - then it's 14.99 for three - savings of almost sixteen bucks.
That's a good deal!
-
I was going to buy this pencil case for DR Jane, but as you can see, it's not really appropriate. ;)

I just turned off the TV.
Tonight's finale of the DNC Convention was just amazing.
I thought Adam Kinzinger was a fantastic speaker and a Republican which chutzpah and brass.
And Kamala brought down the house. She was fantastic. Kinzinger put Trump outside the borders of mainstream Republicans and Harris pushed Trump into the gutter! They didn't do it with name-calling and ugliness. There was truth being spoken and references all Americans know to be true because we SAW IT happen.
-
Hi, George.
-
Good night, all.
-
Today was very temperate here in my little portion of South Carolina. By noon, it was only 74 degrees. I think it may have gone as high as 84, but there were nice breezes all day.
This time two nights ago, it was 85 degrees. Right now, it's 64.

Hi, George.
Hi, John.

Good night, all.
Goodnight, John.

Awesome news, Larry. Sounds exciting!!

I was watching some of it, but then I fell asleep. ::) I woke up just before Kamala came on, and I saw her whole speech.
-
I then went back and watched Kinzinger's speech and I totally agree with you, Ron. :)
-
I heard Kinzinger on the radio and was impressed. Walz and Harris both did a fantastic job with their speeches.
-
Clinton made a tenor joke in his speech last night. I do miss having a musician in the White House. But apparently Harris's favorite cookbook authors are a good match for ours - Hazan and Waters - so that's encouraging.
-
I don't think that came up when she was our AG or Senator.

If anyone's interested, here's MSNBC's stream of tonight's final night of the DNC:

-
Notes are written.
-
English muffin has been eaten.
-
George actually got here three minutes before midnight. He must have eaten his burrito quickly.
-
I have eaten no burrito, quickly or otherwise.
-
Not that I don't like a nice burrito every now and then.
-
Page ten has entered the room.
-
New notes are up.
-
Up are new notes.
-
I've seen them.
-
I've read them.

I wrote them.
