Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke of Kritzerland 129, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: SPIFFY!

Thanks, DR vixmom!
-
Good morning, all!
-
BK, thank you for the lovely greeting in the notes. Yep, 78 today, and I enter my 79th year on this planet.
-
Best birthday news: BK is directing Drat! The Cat! I read the script years ago and loved it. BK is the perfect person to direct it.
-
I loved the photos from the show, and I wish I'd been there.
-
Joshie is stopping by to pick up "You'll Never Get Away from Me" and drop off "Everything's Voming IUp Roses."
-
Happy birthday, Larry!
-
Great to hear how well the Kritzerland show went!
-
Terrific FLOWERS FOR ALGERNON news in last night's posts! Continue congratulations, Jrand!
-
George, thank you so much for all that helpful info (including the great photographic info) about the water flavorings!
-
The flavors may be a good way to make it easier to drink those 8 glasses of water a day that keeps being recommended.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Congrats to BK and all on a superb Kritzerland show!
-
HAPPY BIRTHDAY to our own DR ELMORE!!!
-
Very happy to hear about Drat! The Cat!
-
Happiest of Birthdays to DR ELMORE!
-
Congrats to MR BK & Co on the wonderful show.
it sounds wonderful!
-
DR JOHN G what I like about Teacher's Pet is Gig Young.....I think that he and Doris Day have a good chemistry.....also on display in That Touch of Mink. And I wish Gig had been the third wheel in her comedies with Rock Hudson instead of Tony Randall.
I also liked that Mamie Van Doren wrote in her book that Doris was jealous of her and had all of her scenes cut down and wanted Mamie's song cut.
My opinion is that Doris didn't even know the Mamie was in the movie.
-
Ii shall go a pick up my errant prescription later this morning - and then drop by OLLIE'S to see if there is anything of interest in that entire store.

Schools in my town of Mooresville are on an E-learning Day because of an unspecified threat......
-
HAPPY BIRTHDAY to our own DR ELMORE!!!
Thank you, DR ChasSmith!

Happiest of Birthdays to DR ELMORE!
Thanks, DR Jrand74!

r the [ast couple of months, I've been waking in the middle of the night with one or both of my hands completely numb. I told my doctor about it yesterday, and when there was no immediate reaction from her, I said, "I guess it's not a heart attack."
She told me it was a pinched nerve in my neck and I needed to change my sleeping position.
-
Exciting to read about BK and DRAT! THE CAT!
-
Drat! The Cat!
-
i dropped an email to my contact about my Frances Farmer script.
After all it's been 12 weeks, I thought we'd have a Broadway theeder and be in rehearsal by now.
What's the frequency, Kenneth?
-
Good morning, all!
-
Happy birthday, Larry! Hope everything comes up roses.
-
Jrand, you're at post 92971 - getting so close to a pretty round-numbered millstone.
-
Great news on Drat! The Cat!
-
Happy birthday, Larry! Hope everything comes up roses.
Ditto!
And wasn't it Jerome Robbins who asked the immortal question "Everything's coming up Rose's what?" or something like that.

Variety is reporting that Danny Burstein will play Herbie opposite Audra McDonald in GYPSY

ToD:
Now that fall is approaching, I have been thinking a lot about chicken pot pie. I’m thinking of a chicken-mushroom pot pie in particular.
-
Good morning, friends.

And others.

Slept all the way through the night and woke up at the exact minute I was supposed to be logging in to work, but just had to stop by here and say:
-
HAPPIEST OF HHW BIRTHDAY GREETINGS TO OUR VERY OWN DEAR DR ELMORE3003!!!!!!!!
-
Danny Burstein is playing Herbie to Audra’s Rose.
We have two sources, so that confirms it!
:)
-
The new edition of FORBIDDEN BROADWAY opens tonight in New York.
It's sure to be a success in terms of quality. But it will be fascinating IMHO to see if having so many parodies of theater music so easily available online for free will whet the appetite for live audiences to pay to see theater-song parodies, or do the opposite of that, or just have no effect.
-
Very notably Randy Rainbow is routinely writing and operating at an extremely high quality level, and he's working in his videos with the likes of Patti LuPone and Marc Shaiman and Alan Menken.

I’ll have a double order of butterscotch pudding. Please.
-
Onward!
-
Three!
-
I am having a hard time finishing up Teacher’s Pet. Gig Young is the best thing in the movie.
-
Thanks DR Singdaw. So far we haven't needed to get an ID.ME account.
-
I like to get a large Dairy Queen butterscotch dipped ice cream cone.
-
From Singdaw:
I think I went through it at some point, at any rate. In my mother's case, she has to do it to qualify for the state's elderly tax rebate program. What are they thinking, making the elderly, who may not be tech savvy, go through a difficult process?
::)
Even worse, if they don't have someone they can turn to for help.
-
From George:
Not in this case. It's a weekday matinee and you have to pay for downtown parking until 5:00 pm. I don't know why they chose to do this, but several evening shows that I ushered for recently did sell out.
I kind of like the idea of a weekday matinee but not the part about paying for parking or worrying about a ticket.
-
DR Vixmom your burgers sound good, if only they were veggie burgers :)
You must be very pleased with the political adds from your beloved Penzeys.
-
DR Jrands, congrats on your show last night.
-
From John:
Teacher's Pet isn't all that good.
That is how I remembered it which may be why I have only seen it once.
-
From DR John:
He didn't care that the neck doctor is sending me back to the shoulder doctor.
Sweet about JB. I was wondering if there was a next step. Will you go to a different shoulder doctor of a different opinion?
-
Happy birthday, Larry! Hope everything comes up roses.
Thanks, DR John G! Joshie brought the song and a banana pudding from Magnolia Bakery.
-
Bruce, congrats on your show last night.

DR Jrand: Oconee Theater is in Seneca SC.
While it isn't a stretch to say that most places in SC are in "my neck of the woods", it's approximately 100 miles from where I live.

TOD: One of my cooking specialties is spice-rubbed chicken. It's broiled with EVOO and kosher salt like what we had in Italy, but with a spice rub added. I use one of the rubs from Chris Schlesinger's License to Grill cookbook.

On This Day in 1970, The Mary Tyler Moore Show aired for the first time on CBS.
-
I'm up, I'm up - five hours of sleep. Was up at eight-thirty and have been following this really interesting online book auction. Dealers showed up about an hour in, so some of the fun was lost, but they've kind of disappeared for the moment. Many bargains to be had and I will admit to buying three things - all these books mostly had a $50 opening bid, but when they didn't get it, they immediately dropped the opening to ten buck - I got three of those, including one lot that included twelve books! The biggie I got for that price was Time for a Tiger, original first UK edition of one of the few Anthony Burgess books I didn't have - it can go for over 500 bucks on a good day, so that was rather lovely to score. We'll see if anything else fun comes up for ten bucks.
-
Congratulations!

On This Day in 1970, The Mary Tyler Moore Show aired for the first time on CBS.
And the New York Times review of the first episode was quite dismissive!
"Situation comedy fell apart on both NBC and CBS. “Nancy” (9:30 P.M. Thursdays on NBC) is pure mush about the romance of a daughter of a Presi dent of the United States and a young veterinarian from Iowa. Mary Tyler Moore (9:30 P.M. Saturdays on CBS) is caught in a preposterous item about life as an “associate producer” in a TV newsroom. And the gifted Herschel Bernardi has a fight on his hands to salvage “Arnie” (9 P.M. Saturdays on CBS), a series about a blue‐collar ship ping foreman who is promoted to gray suited executive. The antics are all vintage kinescope."
https://www.nytimes.com/1970/09/27/archives/television-well-lets-hope-first-impressions-are-deceiving.html
and also this:
https://www.nytimes.com/1970/09/21/archives/tv-review-tim-conway-presents-own-show-on-cbs.html
"Perhaps Mr. Bernardi's per sonality will overcome the obstacles posed by the pro gram's dated construction, but Mary Tyler Moore, ap pearing at 9:30 on Saturdays, is in much worse difficulties. She is caught in a ridiculous item with one set of bizarre happenings at a TV station's newsroom and another in her living accommodations.
At the station, the editor is a happy sot who hires Miss Moore as she walks in and the station's news anchor man cannot pronounce the word “Chicago.” At home, Miss Moore disposes of a dilatory suitor, gets rid of her wandering new boss and starts a running gag with the neighbors."

DR Freddy, that is interesting, thanks.

I remember watching the first episode of The Mary Tyler Moore Show and enjoying it.
-
I remember watching the first episode of The Mary Tyler Moore Show and enjoying it.
I really liked it, too. I was 10 years old, so I don't know that I appreciated it the way I do now. But we kept watching week after week.
-
I liked the MTM show was well.....and we watched Arnie, too. I think MASH and the Bob Newhart Showwere eventually mixed into that group and adding The Carol Burnett Show turned it into a powerhouse......although TCBS either moved or was originally on Monday....after A Family Affair.....
-
I shall now be on my way for the fifth performance of FFA.....it is 89 degrees so the flowers may be a bit wilted.
-
I have had no response to my email.....so my guess is that they are now being ignored. So I guess I shall move on and unpack the bag I had ready in case I got an emergency call to get Broadway......

I am creeping up on a millstone but it may be a few days.

Got an e-mail from Broadway Licensing, who handles A Carol Christmas now - the company it WAS with sold to BL within two months and we didn't get put on their site for two and a half YEARS. We're there now and in this e-mail we're the featured show.

Pleased to hear that it went so well.

Also, very exciting news about Drat! The Cat!

And a great showing for FFA as well.
-
DR vixmom, I really appreciated your sharing of your "recipe" for air fryer cheeseburgers.
-
I don't have an air fryer, but if/when I get one, I think that would be the first thing I would want to try.
-
There are so many specialty appliances now, and only so much limited counter space.
-
Can we get to page six before supper time?
-
Or Turkey Lurkey time?
-
Just don't call me late for dinner.

And that's what comes from men and women dancing.

And then I wrote...

Glad you found some book bargains, BK.

One more.

PAGE SIX!
-
Are we still on page six?
-
Imagine that.
-
Thanks for the well wishes. The coughing is much abated today.
-
I think what I really need is some apple pie tiramisu.
-
Or a slice of Larry's birthday cake.
-
We used to have birthday cakes all the time when I worked at a large firm.
-
It was said that you could only get a slice with a frosting flower on it if you were a virgin.
-
I imagine that wouldn't go over very well in today's climate.
-
I wouldn't want to test it.

Happy Birthday to Elmore!

There are so many specialty appliances now, and only so much limited counter space.
Ample kitchen counter space is one of the requirements for my next abode, wherever and whenever that may be.
-
Some kitchens have very little.
-
Glad to hear your coughing is abating, Sing.
-
Feel-better vibes to John G. No medical runarounds, either.
-
I’m waiting for the plumber to arrive and fix the toilet. Doesn’t look good for today. We now have both a management company and the building manager and things are even less efficient.
-
I’ve been watching Professor T, the British remake with Ben Miller. I like it. I especially like the soundtrack. I find the title theme just lovely. Has anyone been watching this? The composer is Hannes De Maeyer.

Home from dance class.

It rained horribly, but not at my house. I feel cheated.

Happy Birthday to the one and only Elmore, one of the all-time greats and the first HHW’er I ever met in person.

Watching The Treasure of the Sierra Madre. It's been years. Loving it.

But I am beginning to fade.

I may have to finish it tomorrow.

Good night, all.

Congrats to DR singdaw on his new millstone.

Show went well tonight.....audience was a bit subdued, but they enjoyed it and had good comments.....on to Friday!

We’ll all sorts of congratulations are due to,our Bk
-
Congratulations on the successful Kritzerland show
-
Congratulations on your upcoming directing of Drat the Cat
-
Congratulations on your successful auction bids
-
I hope Elmore had a pleasant birthday
-
I’m out of stuff to say
-
Oh, Jane,I actually tried Penzeys for the first time in 2016 because I wanted to be supportive of their political message and discovered what wonderful spice blends sell.
-
I ended up as a true supporter of their wares as well as philosophy
-
Finished with my viewing.
-
And why shouldn't I be?
-
Need a little sweet and am trying something a little different - banana pudding from soul food jernt. Could be fun. I wish more restaurants had puddings - chocolate, rice, tapioca - one used to be able to get that at a lot of places in the 1950s 60s.
-
Damn them, damn them all to HELL.
-
Should be here in about twenty minutes.
-
Until then, who knows what.
-
But does what know who?
-
That is the question.
-
Wow (wow, spelled backwards), page nine has made its entrance at 9:43.
-
Fascinating.
-
Drat! The Cat!
I’d like to see that!
-
Great news, Lord Beekay.
-
What a great show it sounded like last night. Kritzermania has swept the land!
-
Today my kids dressed as pirates for school in Canada. So somebody took that pirate day thing seriously.
-
I, too, find a little Tony Randall goes a long way, especially in those Doris Day movies.
-
I, too, would also like a butterscotch dipped cone from DQ, but finding ones with butterscotch is not easy.
-
Love Danny Burstein, who I interviewed twice and met once with birthday boy Elmore. But another Gypsy production does not excite me at the moment.
-
Bob Newhart, MTM, Carol Burnett, a bowl of freshly popped popcorn … all the ingredients of a great Saturday night for my family when I was a kid.
-
When that fell apart, it was Love Boat and Fantasy Island. Different vibes.
-
I did enjoy Tony Randall on Love Sidney, however long that lasted.
-
With the great Swoosie Kurtz.
-
And the youthful Kaleena Kiff.
-
And maybe even Itzahk Perlman as a neighbor.
-
I could have made that last part up.
-
But I remember every word of the Love, Sidney theme.
-
Please believe me
Lately my whole world is changing.
-
Sudden you’re here, and I feel better than before…
-
We’re FRIENDS FOREVER!
-
You know that’s how I feel.
-
We’ll stick together!
-
Please say we’ve got a deal.
(This whole thing is sung by Randall and Kiff)
-
We’re friends forever.
And when the rest have gone.
It’s you who will be there for me…
My friend.
-
I’ll probably look this think up and find there were like 10 episodes ever.
-
A tribute to whoever wrote that song that it lives in my head still.
-
That was one of those shows where the lead character was clearly gay but they couldn’t come out and say that. Or maybe it went over my head as a kid.
-
This has been my exegesis of Love, Sidney. Thank you for attending.
-
Moving on to page 10…
-
In which we discuss the Tony Randall Show in which he played a judge.
-
Just kidding. I remember very little about that one.
-
Off to YouTube the Love, Sidney theme and see how close I was…
-
Okay, I missed a chunk of verse and the fact that Swoosie sings too!
-
Oh dear, apparently there’s a Season 2 theme where it’s sung by Gladys Knight. Lame!
-
44 episodes over 2 seasons, so a decent run.
-
Page 10, baby - that's what I'M talkin' about.
-
Here's an article about the Gypsy orchestrations and what's being done - they sure mention a lot of names but do NOT mention elmore. Very irritating.
-

https://www.whatsonstage.com/news/dolly-parton-musical-here-you-come-again-announces-festive-london-run-and-more-tour-dates_1632562/
That's pretty cool.
-
Well, the Judy Collins concert was really good.
-
I don't know what the final count was, but there were 470 or so pre-sold tickets, which is just under half the house.
-
But the people who were there loved her and the show.
-
I think the main reason for the small crows was that it wasn't a Washington Center sponsored show...it was a rental and whoever rents does all their own advertising.
-
The other concessionaire that I worked with said that he only saw ads on Facebook.
-
No one heard any radio ads, and nothing was in the local paper. :-\
-
That's too bad, because when she performed as a Washington Center event, the house was practically sold out.
-
Oh, well. It was a good concert.
-
What was interesting though, was that she had the lyrics in front of her, but I don't know if she had lyrics for all her songs (after shutting down concessions, I went up to the mezzanine and didn't have binoculars to see) and the only lyric that she screwed up was "Send in the Clowns."
-
She couldn't remember the word 'farce,' but eventually did get it.
-
But the audience loved her anyway.
-
Her concert format has always been the same.
-
She literally just stands there with her guitar and any other performers around her (tonight, she also had a pianist with her), and she just sings.
-
She tells stories about some of the songs, and about her life and the people that she's met along the way, and she just sings...and she still has that range!
-
She sang one song that was over two octaves!
-
Near the end, she sang the high note (one of many during the song), and then went down an octave and hit that note, then went down another octave and sang THAT note!
-
Her high notes are still fairly strong.
-
She never had any trouble hitting whatever notes that she wanted to hit.
-
She also sat at the piano and accompanied herself, and I forget that she can really play quite well...not just simple chords.
-
Also, there was no intermission...just about 90 minutes straight through.

Congrats, BK! It's always fun to snag bargains like that. :)

Up are new notes.

I've seen them.
-
I've read them.
-
I wrote them.

I must say, I had a rather good time writing them, which is not always the case.

It's been much cooler here. I even had to turn on the heat once.
-
I turned the heat on by whispering sweet nothings into the heat's ear - that immediately produced hot air, if you get my meaning and I know you do.
-
Not sure about the apple pie filling, but the idea is good.

Just had a little Caesar salad that was quite tasty.

If they have Altoids, why don't they have Deltoids?
-
Ponder that, why don't you?
-
Auction is done. I got two more great bargains at ten bucks each.
Very nice!
-
I'm pondering that and that is pondering me. We're at a standstill.
-
I'm dancing as fast as I can.
-
I want everyone to do what's in the notes.
-
I think we should have photographs.
-
Guess I'll change the topic.
-
After all, one must.
