Well, you've read the notes, the notes admired Shire, and now it is time for to post until the Shropshire cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: MAGICAL!

Whew!
-
Good morning, all.
-
Off to get plants this morning.
-
Good morning, all!
-
The alarm rang at 5:30, and I turned it off to cuddle with the cats. ASn hourt later I woke and started moving.
-
My body still aches a bit today, and I am moving very cautiously this morning. After kitty cleanup, I may go back to bed and spend most of the day lying around with the cats.
-
Netflix just began showing Season 3 of the British series Heartstopper. Last night the cats and I watched all of Season 1.
-
In the 1970s, I went on a reading binge of Dashiel Hammet and Raymond Chandler, but outside of The Maltese Falcon, qhich I've watch many times, I've seen few of the film adaptations.
-
Joshie is going to call me about bringing over the next GYPSY number, so I may see him today or tomorrow.

Regarding the TOD:
Strange as it may seem,
I actually did a YouTube CLOSER THAN EVER "Miss Byrd" parody
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OcrP-UiQtlk
in the voice of an "as-if Didi Conn" as a proud spouse urging people to go see her husband's (and Richard Maltby's) show at the York.

Saturday.
My street is finished....I shall be driving on it later today.
-
Good morning, friends.
-
And others.
-
.
-
My great-niece is celebrating her high school graduation today - at age 16. I think she was home-schooled.
My sister Molly and I will be driving over today about 4 pm to join the party. Then Molly is going to come back to my house so we can have a movie night.
She has chosen two films she wants to watch: Leave Her To Heaven and Valley of the Dolls. I have added You'll Like My Mother and Somewhere In Time OR Marjorie Morningstar.
-
And Pizza.
-
Meet apple betty:
-
With the windows open in this 60 degree weather, the smell of the asphalt is most evident.
-
Is she friends with Wilma?
-
Sounds like a fine day and evening, DR Jrand74.
-
Especially the pizza. ;)
-
[almost an Into the Woods reference]
-
I could use some apple betty.
-
Got two purple sages this morning and a bougainvillea.
-
Meet apple betty:
Yummm!

That sounds like fun!
Is 16 young to be graduating high school, or is it the norm these years?
-
Is she friends with Wilma?
LOL!
-
Good morning, all.
-
This has to be just allergies because I started sneezing again in the middle of the night. I feel fine otherwise.
-
Sew buttons?
-
I see some Red Buttons.
-
It's a crisp Fall morning here.
-
Perfect for a Farmer's Market, an apple cider donut, or a hayride.
-
I have none of those things.
-
But still.
-
How long before you can drive on the new asphalt, DR Jrand74?
-
And no drag racing.
-
Tempting though it may be.
-
Here are the bows from SUNSET BOULEVARD from a more direct angle than other YouTubes have been
Starting at 2:09, if this kind if thing interests you,
The Broadway show's curtain call includes a full list of credits, presented as if you'd just seen a movie.

Interesting, DR Freddie. Thank you.

It's a crisp Fall morning here.
It's 74 degrees and a tad humid here.

Hello, October 5th!

"Broadway To Dim Lights At Select Theaters For Gavin Creel While Petitioners Call For Full Tribute – Update"
https://deadline.com/2024/10/gavin-creel-broadway-lights-dimming-1236107552/
-
There is speculation on OTHER sites, like All that Chat, that Maggie Smith might not get a dimming of the Broadway theater lights at all because, while her Broadway appearances are the stuff of great acclaim, she hadn't appeared on Broadway in over thirty years, not since LETTICE AND LOVAGE in 1990.
-
She was on stage in London a great deal, of course.
-
Finishing Reacher. Season two was not as good as season one. At one point there was a fight in which you couldn't tell who was fighting whom, and you didn't care. Too much of that until the final episode.
-
This has been a shitty morning. Stella has vomited on the kitchen floor twice and dropped a bundle of diarrhea on her way to the litter box. I've got to land some work; I have no money to spare, and she's got to see a vet. This situation is killing me.
-
Sorry, DR elmore3003.
-
Is there a cat food for sensitive stomachs?
-
Did you hear about the hen that can count her eggs?
-
She's a mathemachicken.
-
TOD:
I love all the Maltby/Shire songs, especially all the ones from the reviews.
And a special shoutout for Maureen McGovern's recording of "I'll Never Say Goodbye" on BK's David Shire at the Movies album.
-
Good morning.
-
Election Day may be more scary than Halloween, though.
Ain't THAT the truth!
I think I said four years ago that Election Day is like a colonoscopy: I want to get it over with, but I'm kind of afraid of the results.
-
Hugs, Elmore. I hope your day gets better and that Stella feels better.
-
Well said, DR Laura.
-
On BOTH fronts. :)
-
Election Day may be more scary than Halloween, though.

Excellent observation!

Up from a nap.
-
Must do some laundry.
-
Interesting bow link DR FREDDIE.
-
TOD:
David Shire is one of my favorite composers.
His greatest score, IMO, is "Return Oz", which is one of my favorite scores of all time. I have long thought he and Maltby should have worked it into a Broadway musical.
My favorite Shire song: "Only When I Laugh".
I love the Kimmel-produced album of Shire's music.
-
Well I did something that I probably shouldn't have.....and about half way in I was ready to quit.
For the DVD viewing tonight - I decided to use an old sound system with a big bass speaker and three little speakers - right center and left.
I wanted to hook it up to the tv in the party room. And of course that means cords and wires and this and that.
I couldn't get it to work. Of course it is at least 25 years old.
So I puzzled and futzed and carried. Then I looked and discovered that the system itself has a DVD player in it [although not a Blu Ray].....so I switched my cables around a bit and put them in different holes.....
And lo and behold - it worked. So tonight will will watch our DVDs in glorious 3.1 sound.......

Well, that had an unexpectedly happy conclusion!
-
"Never odd or even" is the same backward and forward - a palindrome.
-
Page three is an odd page.
-
Page ten would be an even page.
-
A nap would be delicious, but I don't want to be sleepless overnight. As has been so often the case the past week.
-
Consider me another Return to Oz fan.
As to their theater scores, I love most everything in Baby, especially Our Story Goes On. Big has the great Dancing All the Time. closer Than Ever has some great songs: Life Story, Three Friends, Fathers of Fasters, Back on Base. And Starting Here, Starting Now has I Don't Remember Christmas.
-
The afternoon noir is Bob le Flambeur in glorious black, white and shadow.
-
The word HOMEOWNER has the word MEOW in it....make of that what you will.
-
The name FLAMBEUR has the word LAMB in it....make of that what you will.
-
And if you grill lamb chops on the grill, you've got lamb flambeur!
-
The word HOMEOWNER has the word MEOW in it....make of that what you will.
-
This could help us get to page 4!
-
The word fiber has the word fib in it.
-
OLD FASHIONED has the word ION in it.
-
Are we any closer to page 4?
-
Does that say Old Fashioned Cats?
-
That's actually an edible product? Old Fashioned Cats?
-
Are Old Fashioned Cats like Pepperidge Farm Goldfish?
-
All that, and page 4 still isn't here yet.
-
Who eats Old Fashioned Cats?
JD Vance, maybe?
-
Oh wait, I see page 4
-
Yes! Page 4!
-
Only old-fashioned cats for me. None of these new-fangled cats.
-
Valiant effort on page three, DR Freddie.
-
I don't like to fangle cats.
-
Let them fangle for themselves

Valiant effort on page three, DR Freddie.

I am going to make a variation of this: https://www.goodhousekeeping.com/uk/food/recipes/a62298178/cranberry-pistachio-christmas-cake/#
-
I will use currants instead of raisins and dried cherries instead of the mixed peel, which I loathe even more than raisins.
-
Gratuitous post 101!
-
No raisins. Ah, liaisons!
-
Now where was I?

And let us not forget that the word scrape has crap in it
Thank you for that timely and important reminder, DR Ron Pulliam.

What is it, fish?

Old fish?

Goldfish past their expiration date?

Slow news day.

Pastrami has the word tram in it.

PAGE FIVE

Sakes alive.
-
I like the idea of that cake, DR John G.
-
A concept of a cake, if your are a Republican.
-
Enjoyed Richard Osman's latest, We Solve Murders. I think DR Jane mentioned reading it.
-
We watched the first episode of the Kathy Bates - Beau Bridges MATLOCK, which seemed like a very comfortable, silver citizen type of thing to watch on a Saturday night.
MATLOCK SPOILER
The twist at the end of the first episode was quite a startler for what seemed like the expected very comfortable procedural TV show up to that point.
-
It still works, right?

I found this guide helpful:

Good night, friends.
-
And others.
-
I'm up, I'm up - who knows how much sleep I got?
-
Rough night of upset tummy.
-
I did get at least seven hours as I did not get up until about one-thirty.
-
I do hope I'm not getting sick. I was around someone briefly who got a sore throat and that's what I feel like I'm getting - popping Sambucol as a preventative.
-
But it could be from all the phlegm recently and the constant throat clearing.
-
Who knows?
-
Had good food for the meal - teriyaki chicken, tempura, rice and California Roll. I saved the latter for later.
-
Of should that be I saved the later for latter.
-
I know not.
-
Had a nice telephonic call with dear reader Jeanne.
-
Watched a French film from France called The Blue Room - based on a Simenon novel. I fell asleep several times, so I'll have to go back and watch what I missed.

I started it today. Liking it so far.

I’m watching a French film from France myself: Please, Not Now! It’s from Toger Vadim with Brigitte Bardot. It’s frothy.

Oh, look! It's Page Seven!!
-
So today, I did something that I've been wanting to do for YEARS!
-
And what is that, you may ask?
-
Well, let me tell you...
-
I've always been cluttered, and haven't been very organized, so, I pulled a bunch of very specificly related books and FINALLY put them all together on one shelf!
-
And here they are!
-
They are all of my personally autographed copies of BK's books, and they're in chronological order by date of publication!
-
Now, you may notice that on the far left, there are two sets of the first three Benjamin Kritzer books.
-
One set is made up of the copies that I got when each was originally published, and the second set is the set that I bought for my dad for his birthday one year, since he also grew up in the LA area in the 1950s (although he was nine years older than BK).
-
Ans it's difficult to see, but on the far right is my personally autographed copy of (former) DR PennyO's book, Jewish Thighs on Broadway: Misadventures of a Little Trouper (https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/1403398224/).
