Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke of two shanks, and now it is time for you to post until the two cows come home - they're currently singing Shanks for the Memories.
-
And the word of the day is: NUMINOUS!
-
I find the word numinous luminous. And vice versa.
-
And versa vice.
-
It is after midnight, so I'm about to let it all hang out.
-
Maybe I shouldn't have had the potato salad.
-
But it was good.
-
And I'm not the only one who thought so, as you'll know when you read the damn notes.

Good morning, all!

I slept rather well, for which I am really grateful. I slept well for about eight hours hours before I needed a bathroom breakl. At that point, Thatch took over my sleeping spotm so I accommodated him. Within fifteen minutes, he had jumped off the bed, so I reclaimed my old position, and he returned to cuddle next to me, where he spent the remainder of the night. Annabelle still prefers her princess pillow, and Stella likes sleeping at the foot of the bed.

This morning, AAR will take me to my urologist for my 6-month checkup.

DR JohnG, that entire "is this political?" nonsense on Cast Recording List was ridiculous, but some of the posters, like Mr Martell, have larger moronic moments than others.
-
DR singdaw, David Hurwitz is a moron. He stammers through that review, knowing nothing about Molnar, a hugely successful playwright' he could have researched before he began stammering through his "review." Then, to add insult to ther ijury, the posters' comments are so full of misinformation, from "I know it all" Eric from Montreal to the poster claiming John Wilson is another John McGlinn.
I think the new CAROUSEL recording has good moments, a good cast, and some some missed moments, beginning with a too-fast "Carousel Waltz."

Ann and Jen dropped everything onTuesday to get to Boston. Ann just posted on Facebook that her mother died yesterday.

TOD
Not much this week, but:
The first time I saw a Brian De Palma movie was SISTERS on Hollywood Blvd. in early 1973 or whenever it was. I liked it and went back a couple of times, but I never much succeeded in watching it on home video in later years. Something about it just seemed stuck in 1973 for me. I went to his next couple of films and I always enjoyed the thrills, but never 100%. So last night I turned on TCM and there was SISTERS, so I half-watched some of it while beginning to fall asleep. Same reaction. I do like De Palma, but I think I'm pretty much done with his early "Hitchcock thriller" years and all the split-screen and slo-mo. The signature slo-mo in CARRIE even gets to me a little bit, and that's more of a near-perfect movie.

Back from Walgreen's. I had my $75 quarterly OTC supplement allowance show up on October 1st.
I got two bottles of Gloucosomine - buy one get one half price.....I box of Walgreen Men's Silver Plus Vitamins....two bottles of Walgreen's Brain Support on sale for $9.99 each....and I got the second box free.....and something called ASHWA for brain and body health.....
The card should have paid for it all....but I had to pay $13.04.......can't tell from the receipt what wasn't covered....but I still have a balance of almost $14.00
Oh well....quite a bargain for $13.

ChasSmith, did I miss your repor of Safety Last?
No, you probably didn't, because I probably forgot to post one.
It was wonderful, seeing it on the big screen. I had watched the Criterion a couple of times recently in order to better appreciate seeing it after a long time, and that paid off beautifully. You always catch more things anyway, but at this presentation that was really rewarding.
As for the live piano accompaniment ... mixed feelings. This fellow Ben Model is good at it, but the two times I've heard him this year, I've come away thinking his playing is just a leeetle bit too haphazard. Even though he's improvising, he hits a lot of noticeable (to a musician) "extra" notes. The other film I saw him accompany was Buster Keaton's Steamboat Bill, Jr. For both, the music was entirely his, with no help from the old cue sheets or anything. These were good, but I have to say he's no Robert Israel on the organ, or Carl Davis with his orchestral scores, or Sheldon Mirowitz's students at Berklee who jointly composed the score I played for The Freshman which I liked even better than Davis's. This leaves me strongly in favor of composed, or mostly-composed, or better planned, scores for the silents.
I think he's very well liked in the community, and this probably sounds more harsh than it needs to.
-
But Harold Lloyd, he's the man, man. I sit there with my jaw hitting the floor at some of what he pulls off.
-
Not under warranty. We got it used.
That's why we never buy used cars any more. We've always started fixing them right away.

Very long, tiring day!
I left at 8 a.m. for an appointment with the Eye Guys in Augusta GA. It was consultation for cataract surgery.
It was a long morning as I was taken into one office for tests; seated in a waiting area; taken into another office for tests; again seated in a waiting area; and yet was tested a third time in another office.
During this, I had a semi-contentious discussion with one of the testers who had me hold something up, look through a hole with both eyes to a fixed point, and then covered each eye. I could see the fixed point perfectly with my left eye, but not my right eye. The tech said, "Okay, you are right-eye dominant". I asked what that meant. She said it was because I could see the fixed point with my right eye. I disagreed and said, "No, I saw it with my left eye". She looked at me oddly, and I held up my left hand and put it over my left eye: "Left eye", and then did the same with right hand and said: "Right Eye". I couldn't figure if she was just confused about right and left or if she was channeling a mirror image.
Needless to say, the doctor got it right.
My first surgery is Nov. 14. My second is December 3.
I was finished by 1:30 p.m.
I stopped at Sonic and had their double smash burger with fries and a Coke. Very tasty. Won't get it again but enjoyed it.
By the time I arrived home, I was shot, physically mostly, but also mentally. Took a two-hour nap and now am just moping around trying to remember that it's Friday.
Ah me.
-
FWIW, Barack Obama was magnificent last night in his Pennsylvania rally for Kamala.
It was refreshing, amusing and quite correct for him to cite Trump's lack of suitability for office.
-
Ron, that must have been very upsetting and frustrating.
What if you hadn't known to insist that the tester get which-eye-is-which right?
-
DR Ron, iou think the pre-op tired you out, wait for the surgery. I think my prep was about an hour and also involved putting lots of eye drops in my eyes.

I have no idea. She was just talking aloud as she was recording the test result.
I will say that the doctor told me they normally do the left eye before the right, but that since my left eye is my best, doing the right eye is the way for us to go. So, it may have come up during that part of our discussion because I would have insisted the right eye go first. I am 20/40 in the left eye and abysmally askew in the right eye.

Well, dinner out is out so I have a California Roll that should have been here twenty minutes ago. Someone I know wanted to see the play, so I said yes but that I eat dinner out before the show. Of course, things happen, I don't find out until the last minute and I don't get a nice dinner out for the first time in two WEEKS. No more letting anyone attend with me. I have a damn routine and I've had it for the past two decades and that is IT. So, I have to now wolf down California Roll and then order something reasonable when I get home, which I do NOT want to do. I haven't eaten all damn day.

I have started watching a movie on YouTube called On Our Merry Way. Paulette Goddard, Burgess Meredith, Henry Fonda, James Stewart and more. It’s an anthology film. Stewart and Fonda are together in one story involving a big band. John O’Hara wrote this segment and John Huston supposedly directed. It’s mostly forgettable but sweet. Fonda and Stewart are great together.
