Well, you've read the notes, the notes were Ernest, and now it is time for you to post until the Ernest cows come home - earnestly.
-
And the word of the day is: ZEST!
-
I listened to a few tracks from Miranda and Davis's Warriors on streaming and really enjoyed it. If they have the CD at Target I'll probably pick it up very soon.
-
Good morning, all!
-
I slept well, and the cats behaved. That's all I need.
-
I'm back to Baby June and those newsboys today. At some point I need to put together an Amazon Fresh order.
-
Good morning.
-
I'm eagerly awaiting the rain they've been talking about. The last measurable rain at my house was August 22.
-
Good morning, all.
-
I'm going to meet my friend at a plant sale this morning at a place where one must have tickets to attend.
-
I'm sure they can't beat the prices from yesterday's sale. So I doubt I'll buy anything. Unless they have something really unusual that I want.
-
Good morning, all.

Weird dreams. I dreamed I was at a party celebrating Django Unchained and a bunch of the cast was there, including Jonah Hill, who was nice and nearly unrecognizable since his weight loss. Somehow, a former boss was disappointed with me because I had retired, which sent a negative message to those who weren't able to. But she was interested in my doing freelance work.
Somehow I was also dinged for not being supportive of the business where the party was because I would not take a decorated cookie they were handing out. I took it, threw it away, and it was found and returned to me. I knew the cookie was terrible and just didn't want it.

Joan Crawford and Clark Gable movies

I'm going to meet my friend at a plant sale this morning at a place where one must have tickets to attend.
That sounds like fun
-
The one dream I know I had is but a dying echo...it will not come into focus...but I think it's one of those that might surprise me later with a "Here I am!!!"

Last night I took out the DVD of a little film called 11:14 that I think is really clever and enjoyable when I see it every five years or so. I wasn't sure I'd watch it all, but I did.
I'm a sucker for films that play with time, or use it, or some working of it, as the very building block of what's happening.
-
Later, for something to fall asleep to, I found the Lauren Bacall movie The Fan (1981) on TCM. I'd never seen it, and I'd already missed the first 20 minutes or so but I thought that probably wouldn't matter since the gist of it was so obvious.
And... Oh My God, did it ever not matter. What a piece of schlock. The more I stared at it, the worse it got. I managed to zone out for the ending, but I never need to see another minute of it again. Poor Bacall, who apparently disowned it after all was said and done. And Maureen Stapleton, who I always like. And James Garner, who might as well have phoned it in.
-
Good morning!

Nice book cover sketch, DR elmore!

Weather vibes for Laura's geographic area!

BK write in last night's posts:
"Is there gaslighting going on?"
Probably not. There are indeed 382 Guests reading this Board, so HHW really IS on the way to becoming the most popular site on the internet.
-

It feels to some chatterati elsewhere like GYPSY is revived on Broadway all the time, but looking back at ibdb, it actually has been more than 15 years since the most recent Broadway revival (2008-2009).
-
Plant Sale.....get your tickets early.
-
Maybe it feels like a short time because before the 2008-2009 revival, there was the Broadway revival in 2003-2004, which must have been seen as a short time between Broadway GYPSY revivals.
Here's ibdb's listing of Broadway GYPSY revivals.
https://www.ibdb.com/broadway-show/gypsy-4135
And maybe figuring in the perception, the Imelda Staunton 2015 London GYPSY revival was shown on screens here in the U.S. as well.
-
And Mr. Gold & Ms. Nixon's son is Andrew Gold who wrote 'Lonely Boy' and 'Thank You For Being A Friend.'
-
I just got a 15% off your entire purchase coupon from Ollie's, so I shall go there next week and see if I can find anything I want.

Was "Thank You For Being A Friend" written for GOLDEN GIRLS?

I could look it up, but it generates more posts to post about it.

Is Ollie's there related to the Ollie's restaurants here in New York?

It's now at 406 Guests reading this Board. Definitely not in the imagination.
When it gets to 1,000 - sell! Oh wait, that's the plot of HOW NOW DOW JONES!
-
No kidding. That really IS the plot of HOW NOW DOW JONES.
From wikipedia:
"How Now, Dow Jones, set in Wall Street, follows Kate who announces the Dow Jones numbers. Her fiancé will not marry her until the Dow Jones Industrial Average hits 1,000."
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/How_Now,_Dow_Jones
-
It's now over 43,000. So if it's revived, it might need to be a period piece.
-
DR Ron I completely understand how you feel. I don't believe it is easy to legally move to Canada.
-
From George:
I've only missed one or two minor elections because I forgot to drop off my ballot. ::)
:o ;D
-
After one of our moves, while unfamiliar with the area, we drove around trying to find where to vote and finally gave up.
-
I'm going to meet my friend at a plant sale this morning at a place where one must have tickets to attend.
Have a good morning.

Sending more rain vibes to DR Laura!

DR Ron I completely understand how you feel. I don't believe it is easy to legally move to Canada.
I think you also need to be a person of some means.

Who decides these things?

Today we went to a museum exhibit on the history of ice cream in America. It was fun and enlightening. Free samples were not provided, however.
-
But I would still eat a chocolate to celebrate the day.
-
I would buy/read a book of Randy Vicar stories.
-
I hear they're corkers.
-
I would buy/read a book of Randy Vicar stories.
So far, the writing for the new (third) Vicar on GRANTCHESTER seems to fit the Randy Vicar mold. :)
-
But I would still eat a chocolate to celebrate the day.
Definitely, happy National Chocolate Cupcake Day to all who celebrate!
-
I bought two plants. And I planted two of the ones I bought yesterday and scattered some of the free wildflower seeds they were giving away.
-
I will gather seeds from the plants and give them back, so they can give them away to someone else next year.
-
And no rain.
-
I'm up, I'm up - eight hours of sleep.

Darn about the free samples. Otherwise it sounds interesting.
-
Yay, we can now vote :)
-

I will settle for a piece of chocolate.

Now I want a chocolate cupcake, or even better, a piece of chocolate cake with coffee ice cream.

Nice. I'm glad you found something you wanted.

Is that how the seeds were gathered to begin with?

Is that how the seeds were gathered to begin with?
Yes, a couple of springs ago, a lady from the native seed library came a few times and gathered lots of seeds from my wildflower garden. I took some that I didn't have already.

And no rain.
:(
Just wind.

Was "Thank You For Being A Friend" written for GOLDEN GIRLS?
Nope. According to the song's Wikipedia page (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thank_You_for_Being_a_Friend), Andrew Gold wrote and recorded it in 1978:
"Thank You for Being a Friend" is a song recorded by American singer Andrew Gold. It appears on Gold's third album All This and Heaven Too. The song reached number 25 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1978. On the Cash Box chart, "Thank You for Being a Friend" spent two weeks at number 11. A cover by Cynthia Fee was the theme song for the NBC sitcom The Golden Girls (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Golden_Girls)*.
*TGG debuted in 1985 :)

Good news DR JANE.

DR FREDDIE I do not think the two companies are related.

I am glad that DR singdaw is enjoying his vacation....or as Connie Francis would say:

Good news DR JANE.
Thanks.

Ushering tonight for Ballet San Antonio’s Don Quixote.

My favorite love theme in a film score is the "Ship of Fools" love theme by Ernest Gold.
My first exposure to it was the 1965 Oscar cast in early 1966. It was nominated for Best Picture and the scene they showed was one between Oskar Werner and Simone Signoret. That exquisite theme was playing under their scene in her stateroom.
A few days later, my best friend (who was also very much into film music) and I went to a drive-in to see this film. And I later bought the original score recording played by Arthur Fiedler and the Boston Pops. A few years back, I was delighted to buy a CD of the complete origina score on a boutique label.
I once wrote a fan letter to Maestro Gold extolling the virtues of that theme and various other scores of his, including the fact that "Exodus" was the first soundtrack I ever owned.
I received a very nice letter in return from his wife who was writing for him because he'd had a stroke which ended his career. She told me he was very pleased by my words and thanked me for thinking of him.
-
Nice, moving story regarding your letter to Gold.
-
Everyone seems to be talking about "Warriors," the concept album for Lin Manuel Miranda's latest project.
-
The weather here has been sunny, cloudless skies, and 50s-60s; perfect beach-walking weather. My collection of shells and sea-glass is growing. Also, lots of dog petting on the beach. The pups are always so happy to be there.

Ron, what a beautiful story.

'night
-
Good night, Jane
-
A lull.
-
Since we're so close to page 4
-
Maybe we should just get there
-
PAGE FOUR!
-
Page FOUR??? With ONE post???
-
We are really deteriorating quickly right now.
-
Honestly, how can that be?
-
Everyone suddenly disappears into the ether?
-
Everyone's suddenly with George eating burritos.
-
Page four at ten-thirty my time is INSANE.
-
Finished with my viewing.
-
INSANE.
-
Wacko.
-
Ridic.
-
Dopey.
-
Dumb.
-
Who is MIA and I don't mean Farrow.
-
Appalling.
-
Cray cray.
-
Looney.
-
Bizarre.
-
Out there.
-
Unthinkable.
-
Beyond belief.
-
Zany.
-
Calamitous.
-
Calamari.
-
Fantastical.
-
I'm getting us off this damn page come hell or high or low water.
-
Mark my words.
-
Make no mistake about it.
-
It will be done and sooner than later.
-
I want to know where the HELL everyone is.
-
George better show up EARLY.
-
Page five has made its very late entrance.
-
The Group Rep show was cancelled tonight - piano player is in the hospital. We'll see what happens tomorrow.
-
Page five is ridic.
-
Tragic even.
-
Horrific.
-
Hateful.
-
Loathsome.
-
Wasn't that an Elvis song? Are You Loathsome Tonight...
-
I am ready to start some serious bitch-slapping around these here parts.
-
I watched three Joan Crawford and Clark Gable movies today.
-
Possessed was the best.
-
Forsaking All Others was the weirdest.
-
Lots of gay jokes.
-
There was even a strange scene in which Gable describes himself as a former slave waiting to be liberated by the North.
-
Must be seen to be believed.
-
Then I started the Donald Sutherland version of Invasion of the Body Snatchers.
-
Enjoying it very much.
-
But it'll have to wait.
-
I spent too much time on the jigsaw puzzle.
-
But I have about 400 of the 1,000 pieces together.
-
That's not getting us much closer to six.
-
Don Quixote was well staged and danced.
-
But I don't care much for it.
-
It's not about Don Quixote.
-
It's about a young couple in love
-
Don Quixote sits at a table on the side for much of the show.
-
Even Sancho Panza has a bigger part.
-
Only 450 people showed.
-
So it was an usher for every 10 or so patrons.
-
Six!
-
My work is done.
-
Good night, all.
-
Ushering tonight for Ballet San Antonio’s Don Quixote.
A local ballet company did that a few years ago and I ushered for it.
-
The story of the ballet was very different than the story of the musical.
-
I hadn't read the original book at that time, so I don't remember how much of the ballet was actually taken from the book.
-
I hope you enjoyed it, John.
-

That's so cool that you got a letter back. That's too bad about him having a stroke, though. :-\
-
What, George has already disappeared?
-
Not very sporting.
-
Guess his burrito was calling.
-
Or maybe texting.
-
Page six.
-
We are NOT amused.
-
Not one or two Whit Bissells.
-
Why am I suddenly awash in e-mails trying to sell me nuts?
-
Weird.
-
Strange.
-
Eerie.
-
Everyone seems to be talking about "Warriors," the concept album for Lin Manuel Miranda's latest project.
I'm interested in hearing it.
-
George definitely likes to hit and run.
-
Guess his burrito was calling.
Nope. We had tacos at my mom's tonight, in addition to playing cards. :)
-
Occasionally, he runs and hits.
-
I just had two tacos from Don Cuco - excellent.
-
I might be tempted to try a burrito there at some point.
-
Page FOUR??? With ONE post???
We are really deteriorating quickly right now.
It's a cruisin' Friday night!
-
New notes are up.
-
Up are new notes.
-
I've seen them.
-
I've read them.
-
I wrote them.
-
I might be tempted to try a burrito there at some point.
If you like their tacos, you'll more than likely like their burritos.
-
See?
-
Ah, the page that must not be named.
-
Although, I can think of a few names I could call it, but that would be unseemly.
-
George better show up EARLY.
Very sorry. ::)
-
The Group Rep show was cancelled tonight - piano player is in the hospital. We'll see what happens tomorrow.
Oh, no! :o
-
Hopefully, the piano player has a speedy recovery!!
-
Speaking of unseemly, I could tell the tale of The Randy Vicar and the Giant Ball - that one's a corker.
-
After all, I am the teller of tales.
-
Or maybe the Penn and Teller of tales.
-
Possessed was the best.
Oh...that rhymes. You're a poet and didn't know it. ;)
-
Well, better change the topic.
-
There was even a strange scene in which Gable describes himself as a former slave waiting to be liberated by the North.
WTH?? :o
-
Don Quixote was well staged and danced.
That's good...the production that I saw was, also.
-
It's about a young couple in love
Sounds like what I saw. ::)
-
Don Quixote sits at a table on the side for much of the show.
Yeah. I thought that that was weird. :P
