Well, you've read the notes, the notes were French-centric, and now it is time for you to post until the French cows come home.

Good morning, all!
-
I slept well. I think ;ast night was the first night since October. 31 that I did not wake, tormented by the muirders of Peanut the squirrel and Fred the raccoon.
-
Yesterday was my brother Macbeth's 76th birthday. I did not give a damn, but I did discover, when I began to watch the YouTube (in Arabic subtitles) presentation of the Anthony Hopkins King Lear, that it was an Amazon film. So, I went to Amazon Prime and saw the film in a lovely print with no Arabic subtitles.
-
You may remember, from my earliest days on HHW, that between 1990 and my father's death in 2007 my family and I were living King Lear once my turned over his company to my two brothers and then decided not to give up control. I was an unlikely Cordelia, exiled in Manhattan and called in on occasion to make peace, and my youngest brother Randy was nothing like Goneril or Regan, but the Macbeths between them covered those two bitches more than adequately.
-
So, watching the Hopkins adaptation was a bit like a family reunion. I really liked it, and I loved the cast. Lear, Kent, and Gloucester are all wonderful. I remember that Emma Thompson at the time of filming hated playing Goneril because the character is so horrible, but she and Emily Watson as the two evil sisters were tremendously vile and repellant. I did not know the lovely young actress playing Cordelia, but I liked her very much. I don't know who played Goneril's evil servant, but he was appropriately loathesome.
I did not mind the textual cuts, and I thought the story came through loud and clear. Setting the play in the present was interesting, particularly since the election, since it brings out the malice and ugliness behind the political intrigues. The blinding of Gloucester, with its brutality and bloodiness - along with the murder of Cornwall in the middle of it - is really intense. The scene itself is the first moment of reall brutality and ugliness after scenes of family intrigue and name calling, and after that, there's no turning back. Then there are the two tremendous reunion scenes between the fathers and their wronged children, and I think I spent the remainder of the film weeping over it.

That looks great!

Thanks for answering my question last night, DR John G.
-
What Richard Sherman concert thing?
-
Happy Veterans Day!
-
What Richard Sherman concert thing?
Exactly.
-
From Elmore:
I did not the lovely young actress playing Cordelia, but I liked her very much.
That was Florence Pugh, who was in Little Women and Lady Macbeth.
Glad you liked it. I just wanted more.
-
I want more posts.

To get to two!

Monday.
-
It is 49 degrees headed for 62 degrees.
-
I think no mail and no banking today.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Monday indeed.
-
One nice thing is that I've been given tonight off from rehearsal. They don't need music tonight.
And that's kind of a godsend.
-
Happy Veterans Day!
-
Good morning.
-
Home today.

I watched "Foul Play" last night.
It's very entertaining, has good music, Barry Manilow singing a coupe of songs, a bit of The Mikado is in the mix and there is Goldie Hawn and Chevy (he looks like Bruce Kimmel) Chase.
Goldie is SO YOUNG in this film. I remember seeing it when it was released in 1978. When I look in a mirror, I still see myself as I was then although photographs inform me those days are LONG GONE.
While the movie is fun, it's also a bit convoluted, plot- and character-wise. And let me not leave out Dudley Moore in a wonderfully comic performance, nor omit Billy Barty as the dwarf Bible salesman who had one of the worst "accidents" on screen I have ever witnessed. And then there is Cooper Huckabee, rube from the sticks in the city (San Francisco) who gets treated to a "joy ride" that is a lot of fun.

Today being a national holiday, the post office is closed.
I have to start looking to see if local eateries are closed. I have food in the freezer, but will need to have some thaw time.
Haven't yet had coffee or a bagel. And I need to read up on my upcoming cataract procedure (i.e, when to start drops, what meds to stop takng, that kind of thing).
-
Glad you liked it. I just wanted more.
I understand that, but I sure loved what I got. I may watch it again this week, but I also want to see the Ian McKellan version now. It's on YouTube.
-
Sundae on a Monday?
This year, yes. Not last year or next, though.
-
:)
-
I finished the pasta sauce. It's in containers in the fridge and freezer, and the kitchen is cleaned up. I'm exchausted.

We are waiting for the plumber to arrive and install a new garbage disposal. The current one is why we had a leak under our sink.
-
Fortunately I discovered the leak the day before we left on our trip instead of before our morning flight.
-
I like that Canadian Remembrance Day is on the same day as our Veterans Day.
-
Yay, the plumber is here. We were getting worried.

From DR Laura:
Re my being elected: The nominating committee is lucky to find one person for each spot. So everyone runs unopposed.
All of you are very kind to run.
-
Laura, I'm glad you were able to stop and enjoy the beach for a bit.
-
I love watching and listening to the waves.
-
Started watching the Ennio Morricone documentary. Highly recommended. I took a break at about 1:40. Another hour to go. He is there. Most of the talking heads — from Bertolucci to John Williams — are articulate. The archival footage is pertinent.
-
I want to track down several films, including one by Verneuil, the director BK mentioned in his notes today.
-
From George:
Actually, I deliberately (but not easily) saved half of it for later.
Good for you. Be sure to take your time and heat it in the oven so it still tastes delicious :)

Great that your final performance went well, George.
Yes it is.

TOD 2:
Raimu, especially the Fanny trilogy
Yves Montand, Jean de Florette/Manon of the Springs
Daniel Auteuil, the same as above plus The Well-Digger’s Daughter and his version of Fanny
Juliette Binoche, Blue

DR JANE you are half way there!

Like DR RON PULLLIAM I also watched Foul Play last night on TCM because I remembered how much I enjoyed it originally.
I liked it last night....mostly because of Goldie Hawn and Chevy Chase.....although now I think MR BK could have certainly enhanced that performance.
-
I realized that I need a couple of books to read so I ordered Gay Hollywood by David Ehrenstein and The Gay History of Washington DC......
I guess it's a theme. But snow storms are coming and reading material is essential.

Yes DR FREDDIE I am hoping the other one hops on sooner or later.

Wordle: 3/6
Keith also got Wordle in three.
-
We had our fire inspection while he wad doing Wordle.
-
The inspection is very loud since we can hear every single unit in the building while the alarms are tested. Unusual is that a second group of people where testing units while one man came in and tested our unit.
-
The man was very strange. He never actually set off our alarms, just made sure the sprinkler heads looked ok. Instead he kept looking at our old papers on the walls and talking to me.
-
Understand, he was talking to me while I had my hearing aids out and my fingers plugging up my ears. How on earth he expected me to hear I have no idea. I think he needs hearing aids as he didn't seem to hear me say that I couldn't hear him. ::)
-
I hope our alarms work correctly.
-
Richard Allen has been found guilty of the murders of Libby and Abby.....two young girls in Delphi, Indiana.
His shyster lawyers and their antics were recognized as what they were.

For the poor dogs who had to survive the alarm test.

Wordle: 3/6
Keith also got Wordle in three.
Nice!
-
Got all but three things done for the commentary - took three hours to find stuff. Really frustrating.
-
Went to Gelson's and got sandwich stuff.
-
Came home and made one turkey and one roast beef sandwich. Eh.
-
A big EH.
-
Think I'll do the last three things and be done with the commentary.
-
Turkey and roast beef certainly are better than the bacon wrapped hot dogs I made.

Michelin is awarding stars to Texas restaurants for the first time tonight. Got some friends who are probably going to get a star or two.

Very excited for them.

Michelin is awarding stars to Texas restaurants for the first time tonight. Got some friends who are probably going to get a star or two.
Nice, but it seems odd this is the first time for Texas.
-
I did a search and found out that there are close to 200 Michelin star restaurants in the US.
-
Turkey and roast beef certainly are better than the bacon wrapped hot dogs I made.
Turkey and roast beef are better for you, maybe, but the bacon wrapped hot dogs sound delicious!
-
That really aren't very many in the entire country.
-
Michelin is awarding stars to Texas restaurants for the first time tonight. Got some friends who are probably going to get a star or two.
Congratulations to your friends!

Correction from June....
There are 234 eateries in the U.S. that have earned either one, two, or three stars — and only 13 earned three Michelin stars

Ready to take a chance again!

I believe that’s the Manilow song from Foul Play.
-
The lyric line by line could get us to page 5 pretty soon.
-
And it's a Charles Fox - Norman Gimbel song.
-
Page 5 is pretty close.
-
Page Five!
-
Just arising from a very late nap.

Lovely. I wish I had napped.

I realized that I need a couple of books to read so I ordered Gay Hollywood by David Ehrenstein and The Gay History of Washington DC......
I guess it's a theme. But snow storms are coming and reading material is essential.
You have snow storms coming? We are going to have elevated temps the rest of the week...mid-80s at least.
-
We will be having leftover pizza for dinner tonight, too.
-
And it's a Charles Fox - Norman Gimbel song.
Beautifully sung by Manilow. The film alse featured Manilow's "Copacabana".

Good evening.

Leonard ignored me for several hours after I got home.

A zoom meeting in a while to sort out the new committees.
-
Leonard ignored me for several hours after I got home.
Sounds typical of a cat-lol
-
He's in my lap now, purring.
-
Laura, I bet Leonard is thrilled that you're quickly approaching a 22,000-posting HHW millstone!
-
Ennio was a wonderful documentary. The music is exceptional. His scores for The Mission, 1900, Cinema Paradiso, The Untouchables and more are given their due.
-
Now watching Dark City, an ugly noir that was Charlton Heston’s first film. Lizabeth Scott is good, as always.
-
He's in my lap now, purring.
Sweet :)

Maybe these sugar cookies can be DR Laura's next project.

Good night, all.

Good night, friends.

Ennio was a wonderful documentary. The music is exceptional. His scores for The Mission, 1900, Cinema Paradiso, The Untouchables and more are given their due.
He was a master composer.
It will probably seem rather idiotic to read about this, but film music fans -- a few of them at any rate -- insist on rating individual composers as the best or greatest of all time. Some think Jerry Goldsmith was, or that John Barry was, or that Ennio Morricone was, or that John Williams is.
For me, it's so asinine, because i love all of them and others, too. My favorite score and movie of all time is "To Kill A Mockingbird" by Elmer Bernstein. I don't have to justify that or explain it in any way. It just IS. And that's okay, because I have almost equal love for many other scores, among them David Shire's "Return to Oz", the masterpiece among his really incredible works, IMO.
"Ennio" is a great documentary.
-
Leonard put on quite a show during the zoom meeting. He zoomed back and forth along the back of the sofa, much to the delight of the other meeting attenders. I didn't realize they could see him until they laughed.
-
Well, we’ll page 5 still.
-
I must be the change I want to see.
-
I must advance us to page six.
-
And so I shall…
-
Welcome to page six.
-
It’s nothing to write home about.
-
I am having fun learning French. My memory of vocabulary from high school and college is serving me well.
-
But the masculine/feminine articles are going to be très difficile.
They seem so random.
-
The little French cartoon characters I interact with on the app are humorous. Especially Lily, who only wears purple and is a parody of the most blasé and bored-sounding French girl. I like her.
-
Michelin is awarding stars to Texas restaurants for the first time tonight. Got some friends who are probably going to get a star or two.
That's really cool! Congrats to your friends!
-
Ready to take a chance again!
I believe that’s the Manilow song from Foul Play.
I still really like that song (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cLYL-pYpxGI).
-
And it's a Charles Fox - Norman Gimbel song.
And according to the movie's opening credits (right at about 1 minute 41 seconds), the "recording [was] created by barry manilow and ron dante."
-
Page SIX?
-
Really?
-
REALLY?
-
Is there an echo in here?
-
And we're not very far on page six, are we?
-
No, we are not.
-
Not very sporting.
-
I took a Melatonin with a swig of water and of course it went down the wrong way. I hate when that happens.
-
I had a coughing fit - which is better than having coughing that doesn't fit.
-
New notes are up.
-
Up are new notes.
-
I've seen them.
-
I've read them.
-
I wrote them.
-
And still page SIX.
-
And Georgie and his jammie just disappeared.
-
Gone with the wind.
-
Out of here.
-
Probably eating a burrito.
-
I, on the other hand, am not.
-
I've never heard of a "recording created by" credit.
-
The soup is not sitting well in the tummy.
-
The very next title card was "sung by barry manilow."
-
Created by is a little pretentious.
-
I would never take such a credit.
-
PAGE SEVEN BARRY MANILOW DANCE!!
-
Ah, the page that shall not be named.
-
At least we got this far.
-
Not far enough, in my book.
-
I'd druther be further.
-
But what can one do.
-
It is what it is.
-
It goes like it goes.
-
Oh well, I'll change the topic now.
